So cute, so good and so yummy! This place reminds me of a Baskin Robbins. Except the decor is so much brighter, more cheerful, cute and it has tons of Indian ice creams to choose from. There is a fair amount of seating along the windows at the bar and everything is so cheap and nice. I really felt happy and comfortable here in this cute setting. The woman who helped us was just so friendly. She explained about the vegetarian ice cream and the flavors. She made recommendations and gave plenty of samples to help us decide. She really helped make the experience and we were really happy we came in. I loved the mango ice cream, kind of reminded me of a mango lassi but as an ice cream. Seriously good and every time I go back, I get the same thing. Oh, I like this place. Flavors are very exotic to me. Mitha paan was very strong, halwasan tasted like mashed pumpkin or sweet potato, mango kulfi was also very good. I was a bit disappointed that sometimes they don't put enough exotic ice cream flavors. I can taste stale ice cream anywhere. I've never had Indian ice cream before. In fact, I didn't even know it existed to be quite frank. What an incredible discovery! Nirvanaah catered our ice cream social at work (I have yet to visit the actual location). I can't say anything about the prices or the price to quantity ratio, but I can tell you that this ice cream has some serious quality to it. The ice cream was not at all melted when it arrived to our office, and they were all in individual containers. I do wish the flavors were written or they had stickers with the flavors to put on each cup. That might have been helpful, especially for people who have food allergies (I don't, I'm just saying). I picked one up that looked tasty and took my first bite. At first I had no idea what flavor it was, but it tasted insanely delicious. I realized later when I got a few hazelnuts and chocolate bits onto my spoon that it was Ferrero Rocher. Sure enough, I was correct. This may be one of the best ice creams I've ever tasted. This is a 100% vegetarian Ice cream place and has a variety of Ice-creams which you would not easily find by any of the frozen ice-creams in your grocery stores. They have a wide variety of Indian flavors here! My recommendation would be to go with a group of people so that you can try a lot of different ones (it's really hard to choose just one.) The cardamom pistachio was especially good. The mango kulfi was a little too sweet for me. The big surprise was the fig ice cream - I generally don't like fig (whole fruit or ice cream), but this had a very subtle flavor and I really enjoyed it. I was looking forward to trying the Ferrero Rocher since I love the candy, but I was disappointed. It didn't have much flavor; I couldn't taste hazelnut or chocolate at all! Maybe it was a bad batch? There are a lot of flavors based off of tropical and Indian fruits. Tried a few flavors before settling on the Custard Apple. I've tried that same fruit in Asia before, and it was a really great flavor, light, not too thick or creamy, but just the right amount. This place is filled with Indian people giving this place a lot of street cred. They have 'regular' flavors and the classic flavors you would find in Indian desserts. The ice cream itself is very creamy and tastes surprisingly rich given that there are no eggs in the ice cream. The flavors are unique and interesting to try if you want to venture away from the classic vanilla or ho-hum flavors you would find in any store. The hard part is trying to sample some flavors in a long crowded line(yes, sorry, I was that girl trying out all the things while you patiently waited for your ice cream!). Such amazing variety of flavors! They gave free samples but there were so many names I couldn't even pronounce nor identify what I was eating. Ended up ordering the ones I could pronounce but never had in ice cream form before. The guava was so light and refreshing! The fig and walnut was mildly sweet and had a nice texture. The flavors here are like none other! I haven't had a flavor so far that I've disliked, and I've been here several times. Even though there may be a large line out the door, still go in. The line moves really quickly, even with all of the people requesting samples. My favorite flavor is definitely Mava Kulfi. Also, try their cakes! The ice cream cakes are definitely unique because they use the Indian flavors. If you're getting a cake for your child, you can still get your child's favorite character on the cake, but have the inside be full of delicious Kesar Pista (saffron and pistachio) ice cream. read more

I am pretty sure I sampled +10 flavors. I point, then I sample. Even if I don't point, the worker let me sample. Two flavors that I think worth trying is cardamon pistachio and ferrero rocher. Interesting to find a shop that only sells indian flavor inspired ice-creams!!! Many of the flavors were named after spices I haven't even heard of... It's definitely a rare, exotic find in South Bay. The owner told us that most of their ice-creams are actually imported from an American Ice-cream factory (not home-made or made in India). Flavors we tired: 1. Mitha pan - Most popular flavor according to my server but it was TOO exotic for my humble taste buds. A mix of spices - sweet, spicy, salty... can't quite put a finger to it. For the adventurous I would highly recommend sampling some before buying a cup. 2. Rose petal - Sort of reminds me of the Southeast asian rose drink bandung (which I am a fan of), but less milky. Definitely a specialty ice cream store. They offer a lot of Indian/Asian inspired flavors. They give generous scoops and their ice cream has a really unique texture. It's airy and creamy, not dense and thick. It's really light, which can get tricky...because you feel like you can eat more. The flavors are all pretty delicate, none of the flavors slap you in the face. I wish the ice cream was a tad bit heavier in flavor, but it was good nonetheless. The staff is all really nice, they let you try whatever flavors and are patient in explaining the flavors. :) I honestly forgot what flavor that I liked was called, it was a kulfi of some kind? I was pretty disappointed in Nirvanaah. The casier/scooper wasn't all helpful and though they had some interesting flavors I didn't think that the ice cream itself was all that good. I ended up with a scoop of fig & walnut but it was kind of off. It was kind of ice-y throughout and it had kind of a greasy feeling in my mouth that I did not enjoy. I want to say a single scoop on a cone was like $4-5 and the scoop itself wasn't even that big, so definitely kind of over priced for what it is. With mission city creamery so close by and dozens of FroYo shops, I'll probably take my business elsewhere. read more

Love going to the Bay area and getting my dose of Indian ice cream! I've had the kulfi falooda and kasaata here. Both really good. My only complaint is with their management...the line goes out of control and the staff is rude when handling customers because they are trying to get everyone through the line as fast as they can. Last time we walked in at like 9:45p and they had very little control over the line. Service could definitely be improved. read more

The guy serving the ice cream hates his job I guess, I could just sense the frustration in his face whenever a customer makes the request. They were just exhausted. I came here with Julie N., her hubby, and Thang T. We were on a dessert adventure and wanted to try something new. We scanned the flavors that were available and didn't know what to try first! Ahhh .. too many options! Most of them weren't in English so the owner had to explain to us what was what. We tried the Ferrero Rocher, Mango Kulfi, Lychee, Orange Pineapple, Candied Apple and Tutti Frutti. Ferrerro Rocher was a creamy hazelnut with Ferrero Rocher bits. Yummy! The Mango Kulfi, which is made with cardamom, was pretty strong. I didn't know that cardamom was the same family as ginger .. I really don't like ginger ): The Lychee was good and very smooth .. BUT it had little pieces of ginger too! Ahh .. The Orange Pineapple was good and had the perfect balance of fruitiness. The Sweet Apple was my favorite! Very smooth and not too strong. The Tutti Frutti was very strong and too fruity for my taste. It had little bits of nuts in it as well. This is a great place if you're looking for a more healthy option. Vegetarian friendly, no eggs, all natural ingredients, and there's also some sugar free flavors! As for the taste, the flavors were a bit too strong for me. Some of them had a weird aftertaste as well. The service was great and the owner didn't mind letting us try everything (: It would be nice if they had a list of the flavors and their ingredients for confused customers like me. Haha. The decore kinda reminded me of Pinkberry'ish place..... though the chairs facing the window are uncomfy... they do have a little table and chairs for the kiddies which is where I wanted to sit but thats another story. The ice cream is expensive yes... but I think it tastes really good! I had the Saffron Pistachip and the Ferrero Rocher ice cream in a waffle cone and it was ammaaazziiinnngggg!! I've passed by this place many times, as it is on my usual 5 mile loop around home... and so we came here for dessert. Nirvanaah carries very interesting and unique flavors of ice cream that is hard to find anywhere else. Having a type of flavor is one thing, but the way it's executed is what makes this place good. The ice cream is so jam-packed with flavor that you might forget you're actually eating ice cream. Don't be afraid to sample all the flavors! The workers are very nice and understanding of newbies like myself. I tried the rose and chai and ended up getting a cup of the rose (which I think is the most popular flavor because they had a couple of buckets ready). The chai was waaayy too strong for my taste. There are very few places in the world outside India where an Indian ice cream shop can exist, and thankfully we have this one right here in Sunnyvale! The traditional kulfi flavor is incredible. It's my new favorite way to have kulfi - all the flavor and then instead of sticking to your palate like the actual sweet, it just melts in your mouth~ You can try any flavor before you buy so you're never unsatisfied with your selection.
