Super happy cowboy coffee opened back up again! I discovered this place through social media because they went viral for their blueberry cold foam, and I will say it's definitely worth the hype! The blueberry is not artificial, and its very light , not super sweet flavor that pairs deliciously with their matcha or lattes. I would recommend adding vanilla syrup to the latte and then adding any of their cold foams since the foam doesn't have much sweetness to it. They have a seasonal cream top which makes me want to come back to try every season! Given that it's an outdoor coffee cart, their drinks are high quality and always consistent. The baristas are super sweet and always helpful when I ask any questions or needed suggestions. There is plenty of outdoor seating, some that have umbrellas. This review is for the matcha only so please keep that in mind. I was really excited to try Cowboy Coffee as I had been reading all the raving reviews about their matcha, especially with the blueberry cream top. Cowboy Coffee has a little outdoor set up with a few shaded seating spots. Plenty of parking in the lot. With only two workers, it took a bit to get through the line on a Tuesday afternoon but they were both friendly and kind during ordering and pick up. I ordered their signature matcha latte with blueberry cream top. They also have vanilla cream top and a seasonal cream top (for June 2026 it is strawberry). The first sip I was impressed by their cream top. I wasn't sure how much blueberry flavor there would be given that the cream top was white (and I had almost wondered if they mistakenly put vanilla on top instead) but was taken aback by the blueberry flavor I got. It was fragrant and very much there. The matcha on the other hand was a different story. Mine tasted watered down and tasted more of milk than matcha itself. With the cream top, the blueberry masks most of the flavor so you don't taste much of the matcha. As I sat there, I watched the staff prepare other matcha drinks and did see that they have their matcha pre-made in a jug so it's not whisked to order here. I'm not sure if it perhaps got too diluted from the milk, but unfortunately I was underwhelmed and disappointed. I've only been once and it was a super hot day, so I couldn't enjoy the outdoor space with my kids. I was hoping to try their pastries; unfortunately, the sign said no pastries. Hopefully I can return again and relax with the kids! I liked my drink and I appreciate how they can adjust the sweetness. They did 1/3 the regular sugar and it was just right. Cowboy Coffee is in a mixed use space that houses a church on the weekends but has an open area for coffee making and hanging out. They have a number of tables and chairs for you to relax at. They only have one menu and it's on the front counter at the cashier so you have to either wait to make your decision at the front or go up and take a picture of the menu first. Butterscotch Latte - Since the pistachio foam was out of season, I went with the Butterscotch Latte. I like the coffee bean flavor and I liked the butterscotch too, but felt it could have just been a tad stronger on the butterscotch flavor. Super cute hidden spot in Sunnyvale! We went when it was raining out and they had moved indoors, so there was a lot of space to sit and work with some really cute holiday decorations! The menu all sounded great and it was hard to pick which one to get, but the baristas are super friendly and insightful. They even gave us a free eggnog latte! The seasonal Mexican wedding cookie latte was super creamy and tasty, although I wish the actual coffee was stronger. I'm very serious about blueberry matcha. I'm obsessed with the one at Café Dulce in LA, so finding one in the Bay that I actually like felt impossible... until Cowboy Coffee. This spot is tucked behind City Sports Club in Sunnyvale and is such a little gem. In addition to the drinks, theres pastries and Stan's donuts available for purchase. They seem to sell out quick on the pastries around 11 am or so. Matcha latte ($6) with vanilla foam - Matcha was strong and smooth blended with the whole milk. The vanilla foam was light but added extra richness- texture was nice and not too thick. The matcha color was bold and dark green so the quality seems good. Butterscotch latte ($6) just as described on the menu, this drink was sweet but not too sweet. The toasty buttery butterscotch flavors shined through beautifully. Although the lines may look long, they move fairly fast. I have been so excited to try this place, but unfortunately it failed to meet my expectations. It was packed on a Saturday around noontime. We were shocked to see how many people were there -- it had the same feeling as people dawdling after church, which is funny because this place is located behind a church. I think I got unlucky with my cream top because it was straight up milk with a bit of syrup. It was super watery and lacked both texture and substance. If you look at the photo it looks sad. The drink overall was also super watery and not memorable. My friend's matcha was gritty but it was very strong -- there's no milk in it at all but it looks creamy enough to have it. The matcha was more floral than I was expecting and her blueberry cream top was way thicker. The baristas were very nice, though! I love a good coffee place and this is one of my go-tos in Sunnyvale. I find it intriguing that their outdoor set up is behind CitySports and a bunch of other offices. Their coffee quality is delicious, and after discovering that they use Voyager coffee beans, it's now obvious to me why I love their drinks so much. Voyager's coffee beans are of excellent quality! The time to receive a drink is fair, but can take up to 15 minutes if they're busy. All of the staff are really friendly and sociable though. Cowboy Coffee offers specialty drinks and during the summer, the trend was to put a cream top on your drinks, a trend Cowboy Coffee hopped on. From what I remember, they offered standard cream tops and flavored ones, such as Blueberry Cream tops. My favorite drink during the summer was the Mont Blanc, a seasonal drink that included a cream top, and had notes of zesty orange. I hope they bring that back next summer. As an avid matcha drinker, as well, I'm iffy about coffee places serving matcha (which was another big hype in the past few years) because I find that if a shop's specialty is coffee, then most of the time their matcha is not going to be good, and vice versa.
