Love the vibe of this place. High ceilings, bright light, minimalist aesthetics, subtle art, upstairs seating, trendy vibe along with very university cafe vibe given it's so close to Stanford. I tried their Guihua oat latte and I liked it but their pastry collection isn't great. Pricing seemed a bit on the expensive side for me. It's also not very easy to get the seating inside depending on the day and time!
Really solid coffee shop located in the heart of Palo Alto. I went here multiple times, and loved their matcha/coffee. The service is always great. The baristas are super nice and accommodating. I highly recommend the pistachio matcha latte. I'm not much of a pistachio lover per se, but this latte was so incredibly good. Not to mention, their iced vanilla latte as well! You can't go wrong with either of those two options.
I like this place! Even though it's matcha, it's different than Maruwu Seicha because they also serve other unique items like strawberry foam and cakes! I liked the strawberry fields (strawberry cloud foam on top of matcha), but $9.50 was a killer price for this. It gives matcha but with a twist, and its dining space is well-lit, well-decorated, and spacious. Would I recommend someone to go here if they were visiting Palo Alto? Not particularly. But if someone were visiting and they wanted to stop by for a cafe meet up, this would be a recommendation.
I would 100% come back here for the Hokkaido Cheesecake!!! So delicious. Perfectly creamy and rich. Layered so well and the slice is just the right size. I highly recommend. The matcha quality was actually really promising and seemed to be premium quality. Not too milky and the matcha was earthy. The Strawberry Fields was really yummy. The strawberry cold foam was thick and sweet. However, it definitely took away from the matcha. I think I'd just get a regular matcha latter next time! However, the strawberry cold foam is definitely worth a try!!!
Visited Good Thing Cafe on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too crowded compared to other cafes and dessert spots nearby. We got our drinks and dessert in under 10 minutes, which was a huge plus. The space itself is new, clean, and super cute... definitely a nice spot to hang out. We ordered an iced matcha latte, iced latte, and the Hokkaido cheesecake. The drinks were decent, nothing particularly standout, but the cheesecake was SUPER good - fluffy, unique, and honestly the highlight of the visit. It is a bit pricey at $11, but I'd still get it again just for how good it was.
I love pistachio flavored coffee drinks, so when I saw there's a seasonal pistachio einspanner I wanted to come immediately. I like how there are crunchy pistachio bits added on top. The pistachio cream on top is delicious: not too sweet and just the right amount of pistachio flavor. The espresso notes are complemented perfectly with the creamy/nutty flavor. Service was super quick! Less than 5 minute wait for your drink. There's seating inside, but it's a bit cramped and definitely very packed -- so unless you show up early this is very much a grab and go place.
I love this cafe ..one of the best ever in bay area..Japanese tea cakes ..Japanese cheesecake and strawberry shortcake ..are u sure it's an architect or chef ..from Japan ..I'd love to be back.. Had to get the strawberry cheesecake and Japanese cheesecake ..awesome snack...tea cakes with some watery lemonade ..very fun afternoon in Palo Alto at this cafe
Great coffee, but if you're coming here to get some work done, I wouldn't recommend it. The seating is uncomfortable, and the tables and chairs aren't ideal for working on a laptop. The first floor is better, but it gets busy, so come early if you plan to stay for a while. The drinks are great! definitely try the seasonal pistachio Einspanner, it was so good. It's right in the middle of busy downtown Palo Alto, with lots of food spots and cafes nearby. Highly recommend checking it out! Parking is available all around.
I'm not a coffee expert. At most, I drink Vietnamese coffee a lot so take my review with a grain of salt! My friend and I came in right when they opened at 8, and we were the 2nd and 3rd customers to order. I got the iced vanilla latte. The shop was cute and had a good amount of seating, with an upstairs seating area too. This would be a cute spot to study at, but by the time we left around 8:30 on a Wednesday, all of the downstairs seating and most of the upstairs seating was already taken by people working. We waited about 15 minutes for our drinks which surprised me but I didn't mind waiting. However if you're in a rush in the morning I would keep this in mind. My drink was pretty good. I'd say the vanilla flavor was present but not too overpowering. It was just sweet enough. I also was pleasantly surprised that it was not acidic. I find that many places that use arabica beans often are way too sour/acidic for me, but I was really surprised that this didn't leave that aftertaste in my mouth. For that reason, I would come back if I'm in the area and need a pick me up!

I am obsessed with their Urban Angel (pistacio cream top matcha) and their strawberry fields (matcha with strawberry cream top). I just love a good matcha :) The cream perfectly compliments the matcha. I am not the biggest pistachio fan, but I'll make an exception for this drink. Their drinks are on the smaller side for the price. I wish they had bigger options. They also sell pastries/cakes, which are also very good and light. Place gets busy, but there are seats available inside as well as outside.
This is a very unique coffee shop and definitely a must try. I came here with a co worker the other day during the morning time. On the menu, they have your typical everyday coffee beverages: Latte, espresso, cappuccino, cortado, etc. they also have single origin drips from South America which is always an excellent choice. Then they have their specialty craft drinks which is matcha, strawberry kiss, and the highly popular, pistachio einspanner. I ordered their tiramisu cheesecake which was fluffy and light. It wasn't dense nor was it super sweet. It was good but seemed to lose its taste towards the back end of the slice which didn't taste like tiramisu or cheesecake. It got chaulky and lost its flavor. Their pistachio Einspänner is delicious and an excellent drink all around. It's a Viennese inspired espresso drink which has a thick scoop of whipped cream. This coffee drink is a must and tastes amazing. It's rich, thick, and creamy. I like this place a lot of but the prices are super high with about $7-$8 for a regular espresso coffee drink and $10 for a specialty craft drink. It's in downtown Palo Alto which is probably why but it's a lot. The barista was by herself at the bar so she took a long time taking orders and having to make the coffee drinks. They need more help here to make things more efficient. Expect a bit of time to receive your coffee. There isn't much seating inside the shop so outside is a good option. I'll be back for their pistachio Einspänner!
This is my second time at Goodthing! First time I got a drip coffee of the Finca Milan which was delicious. Today I got the Pistachio Einspanner with oat milk and omg so good. The flavor of the coffee and the pistachio cream top paired so well together. The little bits of pistachio on top were a delight. Would definitely come back again!

While walking downtown Palo Alto I noticed a sign on a corner that said GOOD THING COFFEE. I wasn't sure where it was but decided to follow the signs. I found the cute little shop tucked in a side street. After looking over the menu I decided to order a specialty drink. Guihua Oat Latte (made with house made osmanthus syrup & dried osmanthus flowers - delicate, peachy flavor) My drink was absolutely delightful. I wish we lived closer!!!! But we'll be back for sure. 10/10 read more

There is nothing good about good thing. My husband got a matcha and I got a hojicha and they are less flavorful than a cheap boba shop. It literally tastes like iced milk with the color of what we ordered. We love and go to coffee shops every week and their prices are more expensive than most and that's even taking into account coffee shops that have prices that are inclusive of tip like hedge. We literally tossed the drinks and went to verve who had amazing seasonal drink choices and lovely staff. read more
second visit, came back and tried their matcha latte and Hokkaido cheesecake matcha latte was okay, but it leaned more milky than matcha-forward. if you like a stronger matcha flavor, this might not be the one the Hokkaido cheesecake was a nice addition though; light and creamy, a good pairing with the drink still a cute spot to hang out, but I'd probably explore their other drinks next time read more

Overrated. Aesthetically, this is a very "niche" type of cafe with seating room and very hipster. Located in the heart of Palo Alto, it's near everything. The prices for all their coffees are around $10 and it is so bland. The matcha used is definitely of lower grade and the Hokkaido cheesecake is from local market. read more

My friends and I were in the area and wanted some coffee. The shop is located in downtown Palo Alto, so there is only street parking and parking garages. There is a parking garage right across the shop. The shop is two floors, didn't check out the second floor, but the shop has a cute, cool vibe to it. I ordered the Pistachio Einspanner, which is espresso with a pistachio cream top, topped with crushed pistachios. I really enjoyed my drink! My friends enjoyed my drink the most too. I didn't really care of my friend's drink which was the Strawberry Field? Whichever one is the one with cold brew and strawberry cream top. The cream was good, but the cold brew was a bit too acidic. I would only go back for my drink I ordered and if I'm in the area. I don't think I'd really make the drive out to Palo Alto from where I live for their coffee. read more

This is a solid new coffee shop in the Palo Alto area. It's nice to try different varieties of beans once in a while, and the ones offered here are not your typical Verve or Sightglass that is often seen. The drinks are on the pricier side (6.50 for a cap). There is a nice upstairs area as well (I did not go up there). read more
The guihua (Chinese for osmanthus) latte was one of the best drinks I've had. It took me to the time in Taiwan where I also had a tea latte. This one here was not too sweet and had the perfect balance of honey and roasty notes. Definitely check this spot out. read more
Came here to check out the newest coffee shop in Palo Alto. Really love the interior and they even have a second floor if there isn't enough room on the first. Specialty drinks don't have a description but the urban angel sounded delicious. It's a matcha drink with pistachio foam. Matcha is really good. It's not sweetened like American matcha, still have that roasted savory taste that I would find in Korea. Really enjoyed the urban angel and will come back to try a standard drink for comparison with other coffee shops. People here were nice and overall I see myself coming here on the regular. They're still in the soft opening phase. read more

Came here on a rainy Wednesday morning for a hojicha latte and thankfully it wasn't too busy so I was able to find a seat upstairs. I like that there's seating both upstairs and downstairs, and I can see how it's good for a solo coffee date, a coffee chat or just doing some work on a computer (there's a large table upstairs that a few people were doing work at). The employees were very friendly, and I liked my hojicha latte. There's also a bussing station upstairs so you can leave your used mugs and plates there instead of bringing it back down. read more

New coffee shop downtown! I was going to head to Coupa's next door, but Goodthing caught my eye. FLAVOR (4/5): 1. HOJICHA LATTE: The hojicha latte was good! The perfect level of sweetness for me. They also have milk substitutes. 2. CANELE: The canele was good, but not my favorite. Interior is delightfully spongy; exterior is a little crisp. 3. TIRAMISU CHEESECAKE: The star of the show. Not too sweet and not too heavy/cheesy like some cheesecakes can be. Definitely recommend getting this with your coffee or tea. AMBIENCE (-/5): Not as moody or bustling as Coupa's, although admittedly there isn't much seating. Good for a casual catch-up, but I can also see it being good for studying if you can snag a spot (sometimes Coupa's can be too loud). TAKEAWAYS: I enjoyed Goodthing and I think it brings something new to downtown. The menu reminds me of a lot of the offerings you can find in Koreatown in LA (hojicha latte, pistachio einspanner, etc), which I think downtown PA has been lacking (Coupa, Blue Bottle, Verve, etc.). read more
came around 2:30pm on a saturday and it was PACKED!! was confused at first as there seemed to be 2 lines (1 to order and 1 for samples? not sure) in a cramped space. difficult to find seating both indoor and outdoor; was frustrating as most of the seats were occupied by people on their laptops/had been there for a while already. the interior decor and cream/blue color scheme were very cool though; i like the minimal decor and paper lanterns. the menu board was very simple with no ingredient info or if it was a matcha/coffee, so i checked the website for more info and there wasn't much on there either. as someone who likes to plan their order beforehand, it was felt time-consuming having to ask the cashier what each drink contained. at the time we went, they only had the hokkaido cheesecake, 2 roll cakes, and just ran out of the strawberry chiffon cake. strawberry field (6.5/10): the matcha is very subtle, not strong enough. honestly the cream top is what made this drink so good visually and in terms of flavor (leans more dessert matcha than purist-matcha). it didn't have a weird dairy aftertaste, and was sweet and creamy. the cream top was so smooth and fluffy with the freeze dried strawberries as a cute topper. the wooden spoon on top was much appreciated, it helped mix the cream top into the match later on. the presentation was beautiful!! hokkaido cheesecake (7.5/10): looks very simple and monochromatic, but i liked this a lot more than i thought! the flavor reminds me of filipino mamon and yema, mixed with a light and fluffy japanese cheesecake. the presentation and care the worker took to put this in its box was nice too. if i were in the area, i would come back more for their cakes. matcha is definitely is more of a dessert drink than somewhere to get a strong, purer matcha. my top suggestion is to have the menu/hours available on the website (or even instagram). read more
This place was so cute! The decorations, the ambiance, the upstairs seating area! Everything about this place screamed cafe! They have tiny finger food that you can eat while you catch up with ur friends or enjoy a lil me time! The drinks were good! I wanted to try something new so I had the guihua oat latte which was a slightly sweet and floral coffee. It was good but nothing too special. I also got the pistachio einspanner and it comes with a spoon so you can spoon some of the cream to try first! That was a fun touch and the cream was amazing! Nice nutty pistachio flavor to it. I didn't have that drink right away and it stayed in my fridge for a couple hours but the cream was still sitting on top! I was surprised it didn't melt into the drink by then! read more
I'm surprised this place doesn't have more Yelp reviews?! It's a cozy and cute space for your downtown Palo Alto coffee craving. INTERIOR: It was pretty busy on a Sunday morning but there's an upstairs, outdoor, AND ground level seating area so we were able to find a space to sit. Lots of folks inside on laptops working or big groups. It was def noisy! DRINKS: I tried the GuiHua Oat Latte which has an osmanthus floral syrup. I don't normally drink coffee but this was great! Not too sweet and gave me a steady caffeine feeling without the crash. SERVICE: Friendly at the register and answered all my questions. There was also a wide variety of desserts like madeleines, financiers, and cakes. Didn't try any this time. OVERALL: An easy spot to grab a coffee with unique flavors! read more

The interior of this coffee shop is really nice, and even though seating is limited, it has a great vibe. Unfortunately, the drinks didn't quite live up to the atmosphere. The matcha tasted mostly like milk with only a faint hint of matcha flavor, and the flat white was just okay--it lacked any distinct flavor profile. Given the high prices and the overall lack of flavor, it's probably not worth it. I likely won't be back. read more
Taste: Black sesame latte had a strong and pleasant sesame presence. Very nutty and sweet, pretty light coffee flavor. Flat white was quite creamy and the espresso did not taste bitter and burnt at all. Service: Drinks came out quickly within 5-10 minutes, despite continuous line. Ambiance: bright white aesthetic that a lot of cafes seem to be adopting these days. Small compact space and music was pretty loud. Value: expensive for the size drink that you get. Has upstairs for more seating but still limited in space. Has wifi and a couple outlets. Amazing Matcha lattes, lots of seating here compared to the Burlingame location. Great location because it's walkable to a lot of fun stores. Parking can be a hit or miss being in downtown Palo Alto. I absolutely love the classic Matcha latte with a vanilla bean syrup and regular milk. The urban Angel was attached suite in my opinion, but my sister really enjoyed it and was a classic twist. read more

A great spot if you have a sweet tooth! The Pistachio Einspanner is great, I ordered it with almond milk and it was a good mix so it's not as sweet as the pistachio cream already is! I prefer a regular matcha latte, so this was a bit much for me, but it is good! My drink came out quickly, too! read more

Second visit to this café. This time I went with the laptop to work from here. Tried the urban angel and it was amazing. Only complaint is that the quantity is not enough. You drink through it pretty quickly and a lot of sweet cream remains on top. I wish they served a little more quantity for the price of it. Definitely recommend trying this if you are new to matcha unlike flavored/sweet drinks. read more
I finally tried Goodthing after bookmarking this place ageeeees ago! The cafe itself is clean and modern with minimalist-chic decor. Not sure if I ordered the right thing, because I definitely felt it was overhyped. I ordered the pistachio Einspanner latte, which had good pistachio cream with the right amount of sweetness. However, the coffee was way too milky. When I tried drinking the pistachio cream and coffee together, it didn't feel like the flavors were complementary. There were many pour over options, so this cafe might be more suited for a coffee connoisseur. The service was pretty cut-and-dry, and impersonal. There wasn't enough seating for the amount of hype this shop has, so I saw people sitting at nearby cafes with Goodthings cups. read more

Cake had pretty muted flavors, but it's a Japanese style and I know they're not as crazy as American cheesecakes; still good. Really enjoyed the pistachio einspanner when I visited last weekend. The cafe is located in downtown Palo Alto. I was surprised it's still in soft opening because the inside was super packed, all the tables were full. Great place to study/read/hang out. Only downside is that the drinks are a little pricey ($9.50 for the pistachio einspanner). Would come back again! read more

The cream top on my matcha was delicioussss! other than that, i thought this was ridiculously overpriced for the amount of liquid and cup size. I wouldn't mind paying a larger portion for the same price point. Coffee was strong & good! Matcha was great quality but i truly feel like this would be even more of a hit if the prices were more reasonable & accessible to all. 7/10- nothing out of the ordinary or unique compared to other shops, not as much selection on the menu :( I would still recommend this spot to anyone in the area to try! read more
pricy but beautiful cafe serving a yummy pistachio einspanner, light n airy cheesecake, and other snacks & beverages. the space is small but they make great use of it with plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs as well as a restroom in the back. service is always quick and helpful. they also have chargers throughout the space, so you can work here, but the wifi is very confusing and often doesn't work LOL i would highly recommend the pistachio einspanner, as it's very creamy and flavorful without being overly sweet or losing the espresso flavor. it has a nice salty touch too that really balances the bitter, sweet, and creamy notes of this beverage. their cheesecake is also delicious. it's similarly not too sweet, very light and fluffy, and incorporates plenty of different textures in several layers. i've had their matcha and guihua latte as well, which are slightly underwhelming. the matcha is just a touch too milky and the guihua uses an amazing oolong syrup but it can get overly sweet and i wasn't loving with the way the espresso and syrup went together. this place has its downsides, with really high prices, often-filled tables, only a few standout menu items, and iffy wifi. however, i keep coming back because it's just a really nice spot to sit and get work done even if i have to use my hotspot! the interior just feels so light, airy, and open. it's also great for people-watching or chatting with friends. so be warned (my honest rating is closer to 3.5) but if you're not bothered by the cons, be sure to check it out! and only order the pistachio einspanner! read more
I heard a lot of incredible things about this coffee shop so I was really excited to try it out. I ordered an iced matcha latte and Hokkaido cheesecake. They made an iced vanilla latte instead of the matcha latte that I had ordered and when I pointed out the cashier's mistake, he insisted I ordered a vanilla latte and refused to make the matcha latte that I had actually ordered. The interaction with the staff left a bitter taste in my mouth but the Hokkaido cheesecake was perfectly light and fluffy. The vanilla latte was decent as well. I would definitely return for the cheesecake but I don't know if I would even attempt ordering a beverage here again. read more
