Nirvana Soul Coffee is a decent spot near the Convention Center. The atmosphere is cute and cozy, with a laid-back vibe that's perfect for a quick coffee break. Recommend: Ube coconut latte Sweet potato mini pie Just ok: Ube mochi muffin

When I tell you that I went here a lot in my 4 day stay at the Signia San Jose, just trust me. This place is soooo delicious. I am a tea lover and the Lover's Quarrel was the best thing I had. Not the only thing, but I never find unique drinks that are warm and tea based. Not only did it warm my body on the rainy days, it warmed my soul. Walking in, it is a funky and positive vibe. From rainbows to quotes like "I can do hard things," this place started off my day just right. All of the employees were soo nice and patient. Even the regulars in there were nice and helpful. I mean, the love coming out of here was so apparent. The food was so good too. The chorizo cheddar waffle was unique and pretty good. Egg bites? Delish. Quiche? Swoon... If you are looking for a welcoming place with drinks to start your day off right, don't skip Nirvana. My only complaint is that there isn't one by me in Long Beach.

And Café We Go Small satellite location, located inside the historic Hotel DeAnza, to the popular locally-owned coffee roaster and purveyor. This is Nirvana's third location--with a fourth one on the way inside the MLK, Jr. Library that's being constructed as I write this. It's also worth noting they're SJ's first black-owned coffee shop. The Good: *Entrance inside the hotel and from the outside (located along Notre Dame Ave). *Decent selection of lattes and coffee, including cold brew *Waffles, oatmeal, and a few other assorted breakfast items. *Friendly service The Meh: *Not as big of a selection of lattes and food as the S 1st St, but plenty good enough. *No space for dining in or outside *Metered street parking only (M - Sat 0900 - 1800) The Ugly: *Tiny spot that can barely accommodate more than a few people at a time inside. Conclusion: Nice hidden spot to grab a cup of Joe if you're staying at the hotel or need some place that won't be too busy during the morning rush.

Tried Nirvana Soul Coffee Express on a Sunday morning and loved it! The Banana Chai Latte was delicious -- a perfect blend of flavors. The service was super friendly and impressively quick. Will definitely be back!

Are we really at a point where people are just so accustomed to average food such that mediocre eateries are terrific to them? I came across this food truck at an Off the Grid event. I actually was excited to try this food truck as the photos on their Yelp page looked good... first mistake. The photos are incredibly outdated as this truck no longer serve mac and cheese nor collard greens, which are two dishes that I enjoy. Even their main fried chicken and waffle menu has gone from about ten items down to five. Nevertheless, I decided to get a fried chicken and waffle sandwich and ordered the Spicy and I Know It. It was honestly the saddest sandwich I have ever seen. The waffle was barely the same quality as what you would get at the continental breakfast served at your local inn. The cheese was sliced processed cheese that you get at Safeway and the fried chicken was worse than what you get at KFC. The cherry on top was that the maple syrup that they gave you with the waffles was a packaged condiment like what you would get at a fast food joint. I am truly shocked at the almost perfect score of this truck. Whether I give a place a perfect or a mediocre rating, I still somewhat understand the overall rating but in the case, I am truly lost.

Fresh florals on every table and in garnishes for the drinks! They had the FIFA World Cup on their flat screen above the bar. Drinks: Garden Spritz and the Ube matcha latte - not too overly sweet but great flavor and not too much alcohol! Would come back to order the other options they have. Food: Crispy thoroughly cooked through diced potatoes are to die for. I still remember the crisp crunch. The chicken waffles? I don't usually get these but this is a place I would definitely come back to just so I can eat this one specifically because I know it's good. The chicken was tender and not dried out, the waffles had flavor and the proportion was perfect!

Final Thoughts: 4.20/5.0…read more Contrary to many other opinions, I personally really like brunch. It really is more for the vibes and spending time with my friends and family versus the food sometimes. For some reason, this place has always been on my list of to-go brunch places, but I've just never had the chance to go here. After our matcha run, my friend and I decided to go here for brunch. It was around a 45 minute wait today. On their Yelp, appears to be quite the quaint place to to get food and relax. Will definitely be a 4 star for me. Food: Jumbo Crab Bene with seasonal fruit: 4.0/5 This is their fresh lump crab with sliced avocado, whole grain mustard and poached eggs stacked on lightly toasted English muffins, topped with scratch made Hollandaise sauce and garnished with locally sourced microgreens. This is served with either house potatoes or seasonal fruits. The lump crab is actually fresh crab I believe. There are some pieces of the shell that were still in there. I'm honestly not even mad because that's a pretty big indicator that it's the fresh crab meat picked out. The egg is nicely poached with a runny yolk. Hollandaise sauce is quite nice and light. The Dijon mustard was quite strong for me and did overwhelm some of the other flavors on the plate. It does add a nice flavor, but occasionally, it was too much. For the English muffin, it was quite thick, so it felt kind of dry. It's noted to be slightly toasted, but its somewhat hard to tell with the mustard, crab meat, and poached egg on top, which are mainly wet items. Avocado is perfectly ripe. I'm not an avocado person, but this one did it just right for me. The fruits came with blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, apples, cantaloupe, and honeydew. Very refreshing and needed after the savory foods. Philly Steak Sandwich with garlic fries: 4.0/5 This sandwich has grilled steak with peppers, onions, and mushrooms topped with provolone cheese on a toasted baguette with mayo and a light teriyaki drizzle. Will come with either a side of house salad or garlic fries. I really liked how they caramelized the onions and peppers inside of this. There's that additional sweetness from it that works well with the steak and cheese. Very tender meat. The bread also seemed kind of big and just almost dry too. Not too big of a concern given the amount of filling that they give. My friend choose the garlic fries and those were amazing. The cut is just right and the crisp on the outside is just so good. You can taste the garlic, but I could do with even more garlic to it. --------- Quality: Fresh Something I really like is that they use real crab in their jumbo crab bene. You can actually feel the tiny pieces of the shell in it, which usually means its fresh. The food did take a second to come out, but both were piping hot. My friends onions and veggies were quite caramelized, which is nice. Brings out a lot of the flavor component in the sandwich. The fries were actually so good too. I wanted the side of garli fries, but it was convenient that his came with it. Super crispy, nice size, flavor is good. May need a little more fresh garlic, but overall, really good. Price: Reasonable Prices seem reasonable for what they give. Initially, it does lean more on the expensive side, but their portion sizes are larger than your average brunch place. Prices will range from between $18 to $24, with a few outliers. Service: Very sweet workers Very nice service here. Everyone was sweet, greeted us, and checked on us. Our food did take a little longer than some others around us. For us, it was around a 25-30 minute wait after ordering our food. Even the table next to us that were seated after got their food first. The food did come out fresh, so I'm not really complaining. They did let us know and give us little updates about our wait and food though. Ambiance: Classic Brunch Spot The space is nice and looks slightly cramped inside. It was just my friend and I and they gave us a seat right in the corner next to the window. Honestly, probably the best spot for me and the person who seated us also noted that it was his favorite spot in the house. I didn't see much beyond from what was seen by the door. The space looks fairly small, but fit a decent amount of tables with walking space in between still. Always love the open kitchen. It's fun to watch what happens behind the scenes. Location/Parking: Large space It's located right on Saratoga Avenue. There is a Lucky grocery store here, so there is a lot of parking around. We really didn't have any concerns finding a space at all.

The portions are generous, and every dish we ordered came out looking just as good as it tasted. From the tacos and grilled meats to the noodles, bánh mì, and chicken and waffles, everything was packed with flavor. Even the drinks tasted great, although I wish they used a little less ice since they were gone after just a few sips. The only downside was the wait. The restaurant is pretty small, so it's understandable that it gets busy, but be prepared to wait during peak hours. Once we were seated, our drinks took a really long time to come out, and that was probably the most frustrating part of the experience. The service wasn't bad, but it could definitely be more attentive, especially when the restaurant is full. Overall, the food made up for the wait, and I'd still come back. The quality, variety, and portion sizes are worth it. If they can improve the drink wait times and make the service a little more efficient, this place would easily be one of my favorites. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving Vietnamese food with plenty of options.

Went here on a whim in search of sesame balls!…read more We were staying in San Jose and were in DESPERATE NEED of sesame balls, so this bakery was nearby. It's a Banh Mi deli plus a bakery, but we were on a mission to get JUST sesame balls! They had two kinds to choose from - red bean or mung bean, and we did an 18 ct of red bean (excessive?? Possibly. But it was vacation!). I was so excited because they looked and smelled fantastic! However, I was disappointed that I didn't get much of a pull from the dough nor was there a lot of filling on the inside (it was extremely sparse). The flavor did not lack though - the sesame taste was PERFECT (heavy for a normal person, not for me though!), but I wanted more of the filling to balance that heavy sesame taste. The ladies running the shop were your true Vietnamese aunties who were gabbing it up with the regulars, and were sweet to my friend and I (who again, were on a mission for one thing!). Overall, I'd come back to try the Banh Mi and the rice-based desserts.
