We came to Dr.ink to start our day, and I really liked the ambiance! It's a modern and spacious shop with lots of natural sunlight coming in, which gave the place a really cool and chill vibe. They had a variety of drinks, and I decided to go with the Thai Brûlée. The drink was good, but it was a little too sweet for me, especially in the morning. But honestly, that was more my fault for ordering it lol! It's definitely more of a dessert-type drink. The sweet Thai tea topped with egg pudding that was torched on top was quite a sugar overload. The other drinks on the menu looked really good and unique though!
I've finally gone back after years of not having Dr. Ink. To be honest, I missed their old menu. The golden oolong no longer tastes as good as it did before. It felt very plain compared to before when they would have the foam on top. The black sesame latte was ok but nothing amazing. I wouldn't go back. Service wise, the workers were really nice and the place is very spacious with seating but after their menu changes and revamp, they've definitely gone downhill. I wouldn't recommend.
Stopped by to study this afternoon and had a pretty nice experience. Parking is a little difficult, as it is close to a lot of other busy restaurants and businesses, but with a little scouting I managed to lock in a spot. The shop itself is on the small side, with a couple tables for indoor seating and no outdoor seating. The interior boasts a curious modern-industrial vibe that I found pleasant and unique. Though I was lucky enough to grab a good spot, this isn't a prime study location--there aren't many outlets, they close at 5 (so not ideal for 9-to-5ers) and the seating is a little limited. That said, there is free WiFi and bathroom access, so if you have a well-charged laptop and a bit of luck, it's not a bad pick. Their offerings include a mid-sized array of espresso-based and tea-based drinks alongside a small selection of pastries. Though the pastries looked decent, I abstained in favor of the black sesame latte, which I liked a lot. The black sesame cream top is very delicious, though once it settles into the drink it can get a bit grainy with the coarser bits of black sesame. I really liked that it wasn't too sweet, but I wish the espresso was stronger. The drinks are on the somewhat pricier side at $7-$8 (though it feels as though I'm seeing this price range very often these days), and I feel that it is just on the cusp of being a little too much for what I am getting. While the drinks are fun and pretty good, the coffee itself doesn't stand out a ton. I definitely need to try more drinks to form a more cohesive opinion, though. Overall, it's a pretty solid spot, and they offer a fun array of some more standard café offerings alongside some unique signature and special crafted drinks. They did get my name wrong (even after I spelled it out for them), but other than that, the service was friendly and fast. I'll definitely swing by again if I can find the time.
Pink hour was really good, refreshing, not excessively sweet, fresh berries, cream top was delicious. I have one suggestion- I ordered americano as drip coffee was over. I understand the americano is single shot expresso with hot water. But if it is one shot- then water has to be filled halfway of the cup. Mine was completely filled with water which made the coffee into water flavoured with coffee! Place is always efficient, quick service.

Super stylish and bright coffee spot near San Pedro square and one block from downtowns Main Street in SJ offers a really nice yet minimal drink options with a cool spacious sitting area. They have cool merch and yummy drinks even seasonal ones with really nice service. Your pets are welcomed as long as they are well behaved. One star for lack parking options but well deserved 4 stars for the rest! Love that my drink was not super sweet and they accommodated my wanting it in the cup I bought and even cleaned it before serving my coffee in it! Reward program too is a plus, come and check them out!

The staff are very nice and friendly.

Tried their drinks at an office event - the ube matcha and guava matcha were so so good, and the cinnamon roll cold brew was quite good as well. The drinks were so pretty and each was made with lots of care and love.
I liked the earl gray latte. It has a good balance between coffee flavor and earl gray. Not too sweet of a drink.
I used to come by Dr.ink every morning on my commute and would try all the seasonal coffees as they were all good. It is a bit on the pricier side, and could argue it's more of a dessert coffee, but they have so much to choose from to fit your need. The workers here are very friendly and are fun fyp talk to. The inside is very clean, with decent amount of seating and places to work/study and take pictures. read more

A solid little cafe with a great vibe for studying or getting some work done. Their grapefruit Americano was definitely the standout for me, unique, refreshing, and surprisingly delicious. I also tried the butterscotch, which was subtle, creamy, and nicely balanced without being overly sweet. There's paid street parking right outside, and the area has plenty of food options nearby, so it's an easy spot to spend some time. Overall, a decent cafe with a relaxed atmosphere and a couple of interesting drinks worth trying. read more

i LOVE doctors! i like house (he's funny and makes for great memes), the doctor from star trek, the good doctor, etc. i also like ink (specifically muji pens). put it together and you get a grapefruit americano! located in downtown sj near san pedro market. we came in 15 min before closing and got our drinks quickly. service was amazing considering the baristas were probably tired. we got the grapefruit, black sesame latte, and hazelnut. all of them were not bad - pretty dessert-y drinks which aren't my usual (i rarely stray from my single origin anaerobic washed light roast flat white with milk steamed to precisely 135 F). the coffee flavor is very light. grapefruit americano - 7/10 - pretty good but having a giant slice of grapefruit straitjacketed in my cup just for aesthetics takes off like 2 stars. also it was a bit overpowered with the grapefruit and tonic water. not that sweet though but would've loved a stronger coffee taste! black sesame latte - 7.5/10 - also not bad, light coffee taste, should've been stronger cause that helps cut through the creaminess. cream too is not too sweet. hazelnut cloud (hot) - 6.5/10 - wish it had a stronger hazelnut flavor. again needs more coffee taste to cut through the sweetness. overall not bad, i will come back to try their matcha read more

Was in the area, so I went to get a drink here. I remember when this place opened, they had these blue and pink drinks. I kinda miss it. But the past is now gone and they have a new menu. Hojicia (4/5): it was probably my fault that I got this less sweet, but I thought it was okay. The full sweetness would've brought out the full potential of this drink. Found this spot by chance when staying in the area and wanted a tea. The spot usually has their doors open and has large windows so there is plenty of sunlight and fresh air. It is also very clean. They have a menu on the wall, but you can also order online. They sell some pastries and sometimes have a pop-up pastry stall inside. The drinks can take some time for them to make, so be prepared for the wait. They had so many options that the first time I came I ordered the peach tea and the black sesame latte. The peach tea was delicious but extremely sweet. If there's a way to tone that sweetness down, I would get it again. On my second visit I only got the black sesame coffee, since I enjoyed it so much the first time. This spot has become a regular stop whenever I'm in the area. read more

I stopped by while I was at San Pedro Square market since Dr.ink is just around the corner. They have sadly discontinued their soft serve. Service was fast and friendly and it only took less than a few minutes for them to make my drink. I offered a hojicha, iced, dairy milk which was $6.50 before tip. I was worried It would have too much milk, but it was nicely nutty and rich and it was not too weak. The only downside was that this was pricey for the small quantity. I would say you'd get slightly better quantity for the money at Matcha Cafe Maiko. read more

I love the seasonal drinks that they have here. I eagerly await the rose one every year and am sad when its no longer available. Their fruthies are also good. There's always a lunch rush/mid-day caffeine break rush. I try to order ahead if I'm ordering in a big group. Sometimes they'll be serving multiple big groups and the wait can be long. They always wait to prepare hot drinks when you're there so it doesn't get cold, which is nice of them. Seems like a nice place to work remotely if you can snag the alcove. The bench is usually where people sit and chat. read more

Drinks are okay, you could get a larger size at other local coffee shops for the same price. I had the Butterscotch Latte which was just mostly milk and some caramel syrup. Cashiers are friendly however this place closed early at around 5:00 when the hours online are listed as 7:30. read more
i love the interior of this cafe. If i lived nearby i would definitely come here to study. My boyfriend and i both got the iced chocolate strawberry latte with oat milk. i asked the cashier if it was possible to make it without the chocolate and they were able to accommodate. they havent served it that way before, so they were unsure if the sweetness would be good, but i was still willing to try it out. my boyfriend and i actually liked it that way. he said his drink (with chocolate) was actually too sweet for him. i would definitely try some other drinks if im in the area again. read more

I normally tend to look over this place in favor of the Urban Ritual across the street, but now that the Urban Ritual was gone I was free to venture into Dr.ink without being lured over. The servers were very friendly and the ambiance has a very sleek, minimalist look, with a decent amount of seating by the windows and an ample amount of space. I decided to get the Cinnamon Latte, which arrived surprisingly quick. Unfortunately it didn't taste as good as I had expected - the coffee and cinnamon flavor weren't very strong. I was able to feel the effect of caffeine to some extent (as my caffeine tolerance is low), but that was about it. It also didn't help that the drink was about seven dollars, which is a little pricy for something with limited flavor. Overall, a nice experience. I'm hoping that their other drinks are a little better than this, but I'll stick with looking elsewhere for my new Urban Ritual. read more
Super nice ambiance and cute setup, there's a nook for more private conversation and also more public seating with a lot of lighting. The music isn't too loud but is still loud enough to fill the space. People are friendly and will make drink suggestions if you're not sure, I ended up going with a raspberry lychee sparkling drink, it was a fun drink -- light, fizzy, and yummy :) I would love if the space was bigger and they had more seating in general, so hoping they'll consider opening a second location! read more
What a cute coffee spot! Super clean modern lookin' interior with plentiful coffee and tea options :) Glad to see they're always changing their seasonal menu items. It was my first time here and I tried their iced salted caramel latte. I appreciated that the overall drink was NOT oversweet, blend of their tasty salted caramel foam on top was delicious with the espresso. I hope I get to try their corn latte in the future when it's back in season ! I'll have to come back to try their black sesame latte as well, which is on their main menu. Came across this coffee shop on instagram and wanted to try it out. The interior has a nice elegant modern vibe. There is a lot of open space and I really like that concept that they're going for. There is a couple seating inside so that's nice. I ended up ordering the black sesame latte and unfortunately that did not taste good. The black sesame left little pieces of grit in my mouth that was unpleasant. read more

Good place to stop in to get a quick coffee or drink. The place is cute but small with limited seating and lots of noise. This is a place where you grab your drink and continue on your walk through the city. Since I don't drink caffeine I was happy to see they had a few fun options for me to choose from. It can get packed in here so just keep that in mind depending on the time you visit, there is also in one size for all the drinks. read more
The ambience here is great, you walk in and know this is going to be THAT kind of cafe. Not a lot of seating and this place is usually very busy, but San Pedro square is right there with lots of seating. Their seasonal flavors are always my go to. Guava matcha was light, kind of watered down the matcha taste. The butterscotch I would not get again, just tasted like milk with a dash of coffee, and no butterscotch. Plain matcha was solid. Tiramisu was a bit stronger. The write home drink here was the mactha yuzu. I'm not even much of a tonic girl but WOW, this drink was amazing. It was light, airy, refreshing, put a little pep in my step. Definitely try it out!! Hack for parking, park in the San Pedro parking deck (free for 90 min), walk and get ur coffee. read more
This was my first time here and I TRULY wanted to try their matcha or even their Cold brew or Peach Oolong tea, but both are cow-milk based and sadly I'm Hapa (Asian mixed) and lactose intolerant....... So the gentleman was SUPET apologetic and nice in pointing us into some non-dairy items, but those weren't the drinks WE Al wanted when we saw their menu...... I also should've looked at their menu online for MORE details, bc their menu at their store just gives the name and no details to exactly how each drink is made/their ingredients... So loved their cafe, mood was clean and modern with pops of styles from each barista. Super nice baristas that seemed to laugh and joke, while there was a line out the door! Yet, o can only do 3 stars because the iced coconut latte was delicious in taste, yet I've had it before. Then the iced cinnamon latte honestly was TOO cinnamony for me.... Which yes-yes, I KNOW it's in the name, yet I thought it wouldn't taste like the middle of a Cinnabon as I drank it through the straw. But I can say it was easier to drink, AFTER the ice melted. Hee. I'll probably check them out again in a few months and see what new seasonal drinks they have... that aren't with cow milk.... Hee read more
The decor is modern and this place is very clean and spacious. This place has some unique drinks, however, there is no modification on sweetness and no toppings. We got Matcha Yuzu, Pink Hour and Grape Nojita. The drink is OK. It's pretty expensive considering it's $7 and it's not a large cup (only one size). The drink size is pretty small with a lot of ice. If anything on their menu looks interesting to you, it's worth a try. read more

Such a cute spot! I loved the decor that greeted me when I walked in and I wanted to love it but unfortunately the drinks were not great. I opted for a cold brew which was very run of the mill, not terrible but I wouldn't get again. My second drink was a matcha tea and that was so bad I had to toss it out. Since this is just water and matcha you very much taste the quality of the matcha used and this was so incredibly bitter and had no discernible flavor. Matcha can for sure have a slight bitterness but this was extreme to the point of making the drink undrinkable, I imagine if it was sweetened that would tame that but I prefer my drink unsweetened. Despite the pleasantness of the staff, based on what I like to drink I wouldn't go back. read more
Came here twice last month. The first time I came I got the regular iced matcha latte. It was good. Pretty standard as far as matcha goes but I saw they had a guava matcha latte on the menu and knew I had to come back before I gave my final thoughts. I came with a friend last week. I liked the guava matcha latte more than the regular one and she liked her drink as well. They have a nice sitting area inside if you want to come in and do some work. Not much seating but enough for about 10 people. Our drinks came out in about 5 minutes and we sat at the counter by the window. It's located next to San Pedro square so you can either park in the garage or there's street parking . Nice place to grab a drink and walk around or grab lunch nearby read more

Might be closer to a 3.5 rounded up based on my expectations and experience but I did not try their ink drinks or coffee, which seem like the specialty items. I'm a fan of the name and while looking for boba in the past, bookmarked this spot. Unfortunately they no longer serve boba or soft serve which is pretty disappointing. On the bright side they seem to innovate with rotational drinks. Their cup sizes are on the smaller side while keeping high price points so there is better value around San Pedro Market. Thai Brûlée - a very simple combination composed of three key callout ingredients blending egg pudding, Thai tea, and crema. The Thai tea is premade in a pitcher so I assume many drinks are not made to order. However, the crema was some of the better cheese foam I've had. Extremely creamy with a subtle saltiness. read more
