The Chef's Choice Brunch menu is a good deal! You get four dishes to try for under $30? That's just so fabulous. I'd definitely come back for that especially if they vary up the line up in the future (e.g: the trout was my least favorite). My favorite had to be the pancake. It's thick & fluffy. I also tasted peanut butter if I'm not wrong? It's worth it just to get the CC for the pancake. The potato latke was nice as well. The ribs were great just given in a smaller amount compared to the potatoes. We also ordered the polenta truffle to share which I think was really well seasoned. I've been twice for brunch and ordered pasta both times, despite it not being a traditional brunch entree. However, the portions are extremely small for the price. I, admittedly, was warned in advance that the "Share Plates" were smaller than their main dishes, but how is one supposed to order pasta to share as an appetizer? And for over $20, can it really be considered an appetizer, particularly when it has no protein? I must admit that the flavor was absolutely delicious--no complaints there--but I was still hungry after my pasta, so I ended up ordering dessert. However, unlike the pasta, the chocolate mousse was not so great. It had an odd thick, sticky texture dissimilar from mousse and the graham cracker bottom was so saturated in orange or honey or whatever its flavor was it was inedible. The server hadn't been able to find a dessert menu, so she simply described the dishes to us; maybe if I had been able to read the description it would have more accurately captured the dish--and warned me of its steep $12 price tag. I would probably come back just for dinner, to try it, but am somewhat disappointed in the brunch so I probably wouldn't do it again. It seems like the only way to do it right is to get the Chef's Choice tasting, but I don't like being forced into that as the only option when it's not a restaurant known for omakase or something. My first visit I tried a cocktail that had jam in it and was inspired to start making similar ones at home. This time I tried the beet cocktail and even though it wasnt my favorite it was well balanced and refreshing. Kinda reminded me of a more upscale vodka cran :) The food is so tasty and fresh. I like their inventive ingredient combinations and the menu is very diverse and seasonal - there is something for everyone. The brunch frittata with goat cheese, autumn squash, mushrooms and kale was interesting. I'd never had a frittata where the egg was so compact before, but the taste was yummy with a creamy mushroom goat cheese sauce on top. The ambiance is great. It's adorable but also unassuming. Upscale but not too fancy. Service has always been lovely. Friendly servers happy to give recommendations. It's the kinda place you'll want to keep coming back to. read more

I was looking forward to dining here based on the reviews and peeking at the menu. However I had last looked at the menu a while ago, so when I just visited, none of the brunch options really spoke to me. Regardless my group and I ordered the chef's choice and the Hen of the Woods dish to share. First of all the service was off-putting. Our waiter never checked in to see how we liked our food, only to whisk plates away. If we asked a question, it felt like he was leaving halfway through his answer. We did notice other staff cleaning tables attentively and regularly topping off our water. I also didn't like the oversight for wait staff to switch out or even offer to bring new dishes/cutlery in between savory and sweet dishes. The chef's choice was a decent offering on paper (or idk phone screen because it is still QR codes) - latkes, babka, orange ricotta pancakes, and mussel gratin. I was very taken aback by the latkes... rather than the traditional rustic patty shape, they were formed into rigid rectangles, like uptight hash browns. The dish includes two, and one was noticeably fried a lot darker than the other. The presentation was not appetizing and made it difficult to assemble toppings with the latke. I enjoyed the buttery babka though it was nothing to write home about. It came on a small plate that also had a hardly discernible pool of floral syrup on the edge...not at all incorporated or put into a separate cup for optional drizzling. The pancakes seemed promising - how could they go wrong? They were weirdly squidgy and dense though I didn't mind the flavor. A spoonful of nut butter in the middle was an odd choice because it really overpowered the orange. The gratin was the most disappointing for me, as it was basically like watery creamed spinach with meat. I will call out the Hen of the Woods dish, because that was lovely. I am glad I followed my instincts even for a meat-free dish when I was wanting something else savory. I love mushrooms, and these were cooked perfectly with the right about of crisp and chew. I've been to Nina May twice, and it has one of the nicest outdoor spaces in DC. They have three "outdoor" options, a patio with umbrellas and heaters, a streetery with a roof and plastic sheeting enclosures, and an outdoor space that is pretty much closed to the elements with a roof, siding doors etc. But back to the food. The first time I went to Nina May for dinner I enjoyed pretty much everything. This weekend I went for brunch, which I found lacking. Both times I got the chef's menu. For brunch, it includes 4 dishes. The hush puppies were probably the best of the lot, freshly fried with a decent sauce. The smoked salmon, beet, apple, and cream cheese salad didn't quite work. It needed something bready (like bagel chips) to actually eat the cream cheese. The frittata was fine and had a nice sauce, but the flavors weren't all that exciting. The biggest disappointment was the duck meatballs. They were dry and flavorless. Others in my group liked the cheeseburger and french toast. I'm giving three stars because the dinner I had a year ago was great. If I were only rating on brunch it would probably be 2 stars. read more

I really enjoyed my dinner here for restaurant week! Nina May's has a chef choice menu that had a variety of dishes. The crispy catfish and roasted chicken were my favorite! The catfish had a light but crunchy batter on the outside and nice succulent fish on the inside. The roasted chicken was a big portion for two people, my partner and I both thought it was juicy and flavorful although he thought there was a bit too much garlic. Least favorite on the menu was the polenta fries, they were a bit dry and lukewarm when they arrived at the table. There is peanut butter something on it and that almost deterred me from ordering, but it was so faint whatever it was. Despite the high price points and high end decor/ambiance of the outdoor seatings, the food is not worth it. Service was fine and standard which is why it's not a lower rating. Ordered the Steak and Eggs ($29) Asked for medium rare, but steak was completely overcooked (well done to the point of chewing cardboard) and even burnt in some places. For $29 you would think it would come with a side, but nothing but the two eggs, steak and a couple romaine lettuce to place the eggs on. Definitely overpriced and poorly cooked. You can take a look at the menu and see what I mean. The food items aren't things you'd typically see on a restaurant menu. Even the desert, like how do you mess that up? But anyway, try at your own risk. I will say the drinks were good. I had the seasonal margarita, the seasonal flavor was watermelon. Best tasting drink I had in a while. And I had this other spicy drink with mezcal. I forget the name but it's on the spicy section of the drink menu, the one that has mezcal. And the appetizer salad was pretty good. Nina may have some really exceptional items. I love seasonality, but sometimes the menu gets a little too weird for some palates. It should be a crime that they don't have the Cacio e Pepe Agnolotti year round. That pasta is absolutely divine, lick the plate freaking good. PLEASE MAKE IT YEAR ROUND! the Parker rolls are also divine!!! Cocktails are slightly overpriced for the product. But the agnolotti makes everything worth it. A DC gem We went to Nina may for a Saturday brunch. You'll need a reservation, but it's 100% worth the wait. In an accessible location, Nina may is a great start to any day around the city. I would recommend it for a casual meal, date, or any occasion. Service is top notch. While the brunch menu wasn't huge, there are dishes for every palate. The menu is essentially elevated American food, but don't get me wrong-it's far from boring. I had the espresso martini which was among the best I've had. They took it to the next level with orange essence. You can choose from a variety of sharable plates, main dishes, or order a la carte from the chef's choice tasting menu. For my main dish I went the third and ordered the House Smoked Maple Ham Eggs Benedict. I have no regrets. The English muffin was neither too soggy nor too hard. The ham and hollandaise were sensational. I could have easily ordered two. It can be a bit pricy, but brunch wasn't too bad. Will be back for sure for another brunch and dinner as well!! Came here for a joint birthday dinner to try their tasting menu. It costs $44 per person and at least two people are required to do the tasting menu. With two people, we had an entire dish leftover & saved a decent amount of money compared to if we bought everything a la carte. Our dishes were a spring salad, shrimp toast, pasta, trout, chicken, and tres leches dessert. They also gave us a free carrot cake slice & glasses of champagne for our birthday! My favorite dishes were probably the salad (surprisingly lol) and the pasta! But everything was delicious. I think the menu rotates seasonally so not sure how much longer this menu will be since it seems to be the spring menu. The shrimp on the toast were HUGE too and they don't skimp on anything. A hidden gem in a somewhat residential part of Logan Circle. Cozy rooftop and outdoor patio seating. A blend of nautical and rustic farmhouse vibes with an upscale twist. Honestly I was a little upset when I first read, the only thing that jumped out to me was the summer squash. However --let me tell you-- I was wrong, very, wrong. The food is magnificent. What I love best is that it's locally sourced and seasonal. Since cherries are one of their seasonal fruits we had an onslaught of cherry inspired cocktails throughout the night (pisco sour, margarita, martini, cucumber refresher, mule, etc.). Our server Jesus was a true pleasure. He catered to us effortlessly and made the night truly special. Even if the food was average I would go back just to have Jesus be our server again. Now back to the food... we got the chef's choice along with the soft shell crab and summer squash. The chefs choice includes three appetizers, two entrees, and a dessert with an out of this world toasted meringue. I could go in depth into each dish but what really matters are the following: presentation --five stars, flavor profile --4.5 stars (they did a phenomenal job of pairing savory and heavy with fresh herbs, sauces and veggies to really brighten the dishes. Only one that was a little iffy was the crab. Still good but a tad fishy.), execution of the dish --5 stars (everything was cooked properly and dare I say, to perfection. They are social-distance friendly and use contactless menus that you can find online ahead of time. My boyfriend and I came for his birthday. We wrote it down in our reservation, and they brought it up themselves with no reminder! Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive. He brought us both free champagne and a slice of carrot cake with a candle! It was a wonderful surprise. If you come with two people, I would highly recommend the chef's choice special, a 6-course meal chosen by the chef themselves. Everything is prepared super well and it's a great deal. Nina May has been one of my favorite restaurants in town recently. I live around the corner and rave about it to everyone and am constantly recommending it to so many. Easter brunch today was disappointing. The oysters were shucked terribly. They were barely edible with so much shell in the oyster itself. The omelette was overcooked. The beet cocktail was not the same one I fell in love with 2 months ago. And the service was disappointing. I've had great service the last few times I've been there and today for a 2:30pm reservation, we were surprised at 3:15pm when our waiter came up to us and said that they're doing last call for food and drink at 3:15pm (the current time!). How can you do that for 2:30pm reservation? We weren't offered dessert or anything. They just dropped the check and rushed us out. Not what I expect from a restaurant working towards a star. I have experienced better and expect better. Particularly on a holiday. Please don't make me regret recommending you to so many. Very disappointed. read more

We had such a great experience here!! The staff were so attentive and kind, and even though we can't sit indoors right now, the decor inside is adorable and I can't wait to come back and experience it when everything is safe again. That said, the outdoor heaters were totally warm enough (even on a 24 degree day) and the woodsy bar was super cute. We were there for brunch; the romaine lettuce salad was light with just the right amount of dressing, and the caramelized onion agnolotti was so delicious and the sauce so creamy. The salted maple pie was AWESOME. I sucked down the Coffee Time cocktail, the Maple Old Fashioned was good but could have used just a bit more flavor, and the Eggnog was surprisingly not too sweet to have more than one. It appeared they had a nice outdoor patio space as well to accommodate many tables and during this time that is very nice. I would give this place 4.5 stars for the quality of food, price and service! We ordered the chefs menu for two ($70) and asked for vegetarian accommodations and they were more than happy to honor our request. We added an extra dish since we had three people. Very reasonably priced as it included 5 dishes to try plus a dessert! The portions were good portions and enough food for two people. For a vegetarian meal, it was very filling and we weren't just served lettuce leaves or a fruit. We were so thrilled to see so many tasty filling ipyip For drinks we highly enjoyed the peach margaritas which was the seasonal flavor and the wine selection was nice and reasonably priced. We liked the espresso martini but wished it had baileys or something more creamy to cut the strong espresso taste a bit. Our favorite was the pistachio crushed Japanese eggplant. Delicious. So tasty and unique. We also enjoyed the peach upside down cake! Caesar salad and grilled focaccia with pimento cheese were also crowd pleaser. The tomato pie was interesting but could have used a little more flavor, maybe some ricotta on top. Our least favorite was the portabella al pastor as we found the flavor to be too overly strong and pungent On the mushrooms. Perhaps a little pineapple or sweetness would have helped balance it more. This is my new favorite spot in DC. From the moment you walk in the place just exudes an amazing vibe. The decor is awesome and inviting. We sat upstairs and had a great view out of the windows which just added to the perfect date night vibe. It did get packed inside so I would highly recommend making a reservation. We decided to get the chefs choice meal AND EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!!!!!I mean everything from the Caesar salad to the chocolate tarts just pure perfection!! The meals are tapas style so they're small but shareable plates. We felt they were the perfect portion size for two people and honestly priced incredibly well. The staff were excellent very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. We also had a few drinks again all perfection. I had a non alcoholic margarita and the berry ginger while my partner had their version of a mule and whiskey drink that had a chocolate stick in it. All of the drinks were the bee knees y'all. 4 stars for a pretty solid spot. While the coronavirus shut down my wife and I's ability to have the full experience at Nina May, located at the corner of 11th and O Street, we were still able to put in a takeout order (#SupportingLocalBusinesses) to try out this new Washingtonian Top 100 spot. I called into the restaurant and a very pleasant hostess took my call and rang up my order. I then drove over to pick everything up. I arrived at the venue and found a very cute and empty spot that I'd love to come back and try (I've read the Chef's Choice option for around $40 is supposed to be excellent). The hostess rung me up and then I waited about 10 minutes for my food. I noticed that the outside has a little dining area, which I hope means that the place is dog friendly when the world comes back. I sat outside, the hostess brought me my food and wine, and then I took off on my way. I arrived home to check out my food items (no pictures for this review because I think pictures should show food in a manner intended to be plated by the chef). My items included the Butternut Squash Agnolotti with Braised Leg of Lamb, Pumpkin and Herb Crusted Maryland Quail, and Dry Aged Beef Ribeye (all 3 copy and pasted from the take out menu so that you can find it if you are reading during the time of social distancing protocol). Also included was a Cotes du Rhone, which was very fairly priced, and a bonus piece of opera cake! In terms of the food, my wife and I agree that our favorite was the agnolotti (which is weirdly listed under grains on the menu). It was a delicious mix of cheese, lamb, and ravioli. The quail was our next favorite, with a very solid (although a little small for the price) dish with a side spicy sauce that my wife really enjoyed. The ribeye was pretty good and included fun items like yorkshire pudding and bbq squash, but it didn't quite live up to the $40 price tag. The wine paired with everything well and the opera cake, which had a fun hint of coconut flavor to it, made for an excellent finishing bite to our feast. Overall, Nina May provided us with a fun and tasty meal. Story (this is mostly about how we came upon this restaurant, so you can skip it): One morning we wanted to try a new brunch place. This is one of our hobbies to find new places and try their food. We checked some places and came upon Nina may. From the photos the food looked good so we decided to give it a try. Luckily there was reservation available. Once we got there, they gave us a table close to the entrance. Since it was our first time there, I didn't want to sit next to the window and wanted to check the restaurant itself. They told us they can give us a table on the second floor if we waited for 15 minutes. We decided to wait and went around to check the places. The time went fast since with our luck we found an open house close to the restaurant and went to check it out. Atmosphere and environment: the restaurant has a cosy and old dc style interior with lots of window which provides a great lighting. We were there around noon and that is a great atmosphere. The tables are cute and good size and the servers are very friendly and chill. Our server recommended to us to get the chef's experience. Food and beverage: for the beverage we tried cappuccino and latte. So I am not a coffee snob and I only can tell when the coffee is not good. I think their cappuccino and latte were decent and came in a timely manner. For brunch we got chef's experience which is four course meal shareable between two people. The items in the shareable were Hush puppies with duck confit, yogurt parfait, oyster bowl, and the beef brisket. The parfait was a new take coming in the bowl and personally I really liked it. A good start for a brunch, very light, and the combination of grapes and raisins was a delicious combo. The hush poppies was also a new take and they were in the form of spheres. It was fried outside and mushy inside and went great with the remoulade. The oyster bowl was also good, an interesting item for a brunch course. It wasn't my favorite item but still tasty. The last item of the brunch was also the best IMHO. The brisket was cooked perfectly and came with these small potatoes. I wonder if they were cooked with eggplant because we could sense the eggplant in the potatoes which was a great addition. It also came with a beet mustard that would go well with everything, this is a must try item in the menu. The chefs tasting menu was great. If you are a meat eater with no restrictions, I would encourage you to try this place especially at that cost. All of the options were tasty and worth trying from the chefs menu. I will however note that I am docking points for the vegetarian options provided. We had a vegetarian in our group and both of the vegetarian options on the regular menu are lacking in execution and quite frankly taste like cheesy mush. read more

The brisket and schnitzel were juicy and delicious, and all the sides were great. The beet cocktail was something I had never had before! And the sticky toffy pudding... I'll be dreaming about it for a while!! Excited to go back as their menu changes about every week or so based on local ingredients the chef gets from the farms in the area.
