Things were a bit chaotic this morning, but the service is on point, and smoothies are great.

Having said that, it was pretty well run and after waiting in line I found two registers waiting and was able to order a variety of baked goods and a fresh sandwich, which were prepared for me quite speedily. I wouldn't expect to be in and out immediately at peak times, but for me it was maybe forty-five minutes to wait in line, get food, and eat my sandwich. They offer good options for special dietary needs. The vegan sandwich is based on Old Bay marinated tofu, and they are not kidding about that. It is really, really Old Bay flavored. The tomato and avocado livens things up, but honestly the best part of the sandwich was still the sourdough bread, which is fair enough for a bakery. The spread of pastries I acquired was resplendent in quality and variety, and I will be happy to continue trying out all the Black Market locations to see which one is the most convenient.

We ordered the oatmeal pie, almond croissant, wildberry danish, Black Market bun, lemonade blueberry scone, and a caramel cappuccino. Ordering took maybe 4 minutes, and our food was already being bagged while we were ringing up. The drink took another 3 minutes, which was more than reasonable considering how busy they were. What really stood out was the customer service. The guy behind the counter found out it was our first time and immediately gave us a free scone, then took his time explaining how everything works. He walked us down the line, explained what each baked good was, pointed out the most popular items, and even shared his personal favorites. As busy as they were, they still made sure we felt taken care of. There was also a young lady bagging orders who jumped in and out of conversation while working--just as friendly and welcoming. Service like that is refreshing and definitely made an impression. He jokingly asked if he'd see us next weekend... and yeah, we'll definitely be back. The shop was clean, noise level was moderate, and there are a few tables if you get there early or get lucky, but most people seemed to be ordering to go. Lighting was good, and I didn't really notice any music. Price-wise, everything felt more than fair for the quality. They told us everything is cooked fresh daily and they basically go until they sell out--which makes sense given how much business they were doing. The food was excellent: fresh, flavorful, and a great mix of sweet and savory. Honestly, the only regret I had was not trying the breakfast sandwiches--we watched a few being made and they looked serious. Overall, this was an all-around great visit. The way they operate is unique, the food is top-tier, and I can absolutely see why people rush in to grab their favorites before things sell out. Without a doubt, we'll be back.

Both were good, but the Hippie Hash was the standout--it really hit the spot. They have removed the indoor tables since our last visit and now offer seating outside along the water. That worked out perfectly on a pleasant summer morning. We sat by the water and enjoyed a nice view toward downtown Annapolis while we ate. Our food was brought out as soon as it was ready, and the wait was short. The inside of the restaurant was clean, and the coffee was kept full and fresh. Bread and Butter Kitchen remains a great choice for an easy, casual breakfast with one of the better waterfront settings in Annapolis.

The waiter was very friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. I ordered the crab cake sandwich, and it was fresh and of excellent quality. My friend and I sat outside by the water. Even though it was a hot day, the beautiful view, attentive service, and delicious food made for a very relaxing experience. We spent a wonderful time chatting and enjoying our meal. My friend and I were both very impressed with the restaurant. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend it!

Maybe they step it up for the evening meal, I don't know. But there was just something about the meal that did not hit the same bar. We went there in the early afternoon. The bar was surprisingly crowded while the dining room was mostly empty, maybe 4 or 5 tables were full. There were even people sitting outside on the deck. We both ordered the same darn meal: cream of crab soup and the crab cake sandwich. Of course, our plates looked exactly the same and - also of course - we had the same reaction to the dishes. The cream of crab soup was "meh." The broth was nicely thick but its flavor was a bit too robust for something with crab in it. The soup just about overwhelmed the crab meat. Too much seasoning, too much spice, just too much. It also lacked a large amount of crab meat in it. The serving was large, served in a bowl that was almost as big as my head but filled only halfway (thank God). Suffice it to say that the cream of crab soup is not the reason to go to this restaurant. The crab cakes were better than the soup but only marginally. There was a whole lot of filler in there and the crab mix was not thoroughly mixed up. One bite had a lot of crab, the next bite was all filler, the next was a mixture of the 2 - someone just did not take the time and effort to fully combine the ingredients well. Don't get me wrong, the crab cake was good, just not great. But the biggest downfall of this dish was the bun. The bun was much too big. It overwhelmed the crab cake; too much bread. Both my spouse and I took the crab cake off the bun and ate it naked. It was better that way. The best part of Harpers Waterfront is its location. The waterfront view is delightful and relaxing and pretty. The dining room is very nicely decorated and there is plenty of room between the tables. It is not a chain restaurant and that is a good thing too - you can tell that the owners have put a lot of great thought into the atmosphere and the "look" of the restaurant. Even the men's room is nicely furnished. The dining room is sophisticated yet natural and relaxed. The location on Turkey Point is a little secluded which makes you feel like you have happened upon a secret little place not known by many people. That is a plus here. Do I recommend Harpers Waterfront? Yes I do. It is a very nice place to have a meal. Ok so maybe the food can be improved but it is still a nice place. The location and the atmosphere alone is enough to bring me back here.
