I am not sure which is the best location of this local chain, but this one certainly had an ample line. Having said that, it was pretty well run and after waiting in line I found two registers waiting and was able to order a variety of baked goods and a fresh sandwich, which were prepared for me quite speedily. I wouldn't expect to be in and out immediately at peak times, but for me it was maybe forty-five minutes to wait in line, get food, and eat my sandwich. They offer good options for special dietary needs. The vegan sandwich is based on Old Bay marinated tofu, and they are not kidding about that. It is really, really Old Bay flavored. The tomato and avocado livens things up, but honestly the best part of the sandwich was still the sourdough bread, which is fair enough for a bakery. The spread of pastries I acquired was resplendent in quality and variety, and I will be happy to continue trying out all the Black Market locations to see which one is the most convenient. read more

Came here today around 10:30 AM with my wife for our first visit and did takeout. I'm really glad she dragged me out the house for this one. We ordered the oatmeal pie, almond croissant, wildberry danish, Black Market bun, lemonade blueberry scone, and a caramel cappuccino. Ordering took maybe 4 minutes, and our food was already being bagged while we were ringing up. The drink took another 3 minutes, which was more than reasonable considering how busy they were. What really stood out was the customer service. The guy behind the counter found out it was our first time and immediately gave us a free scone, then took his time explaining how everything works. He walked us down the line, explained what each baked good was, pointed out the most popular items, and even shared his personal favorites. As busy as they were, they still made sure we felt taken care of. There was also a young lady bagging orders who jumped in and out of conversation while working--just as friendly and welcoming. Service like that is refreshing and definitely made an impression. He jokingly asked if he'd see us next weekend... and yeah, we'll definitely be back. The shop was clean, noise level was moderate, and there are a few tables if you get there early or get lucky, but most people seemed to be ordering to go. Lighting was good, and I didn't really notice any music. Price-wise, everything felt more than fair for the quality. They told us everything is cooked fresh daily and they basically go until they sell out--which makes sense given how much business they were doing. The food was excellent: fresh, flavorful, and a great mix of sweet and savory. Honestly, the only regret I had was not trying the breakfast sandwiches--we watched a few being made and they looked serious. Overall, this was an all-around great visit. The way they operate is unique, the food is top-tier, and I can absolutely see why people rush in to grab their favorites before things sell out. Without a doubt, we'll be back. read more

It was an overall great experience. The restaurant was clean. The customer service was really good. The person that took the order was friendly, patient and helpful. The efficiency from start to finish was amazing. The breakfast sandwich was awesome. The sourdough bread was perfect and all of the ingredients were really fresh. The presentation of the assembled and packaged sandwich was a ten. Though so many menu items looked delicious, I had to try the oatmeal cream pie- it was amazing. The cookies were buttery and soft. The cream filling was soft and sweet. I would definitely return for another breakfast sandwich. read more

A friend gifted me some goodies from this bakery, and I recently found myself in the area so I had to go and check it out myself. I went at 2 PM on Christmas Eve, so I was concerned that there would either be a ridiculously long line or they wouldn't have much. When I arrived, I found a parking space easily. As I expected, there was a line out the door. It moved pretty quickly. I was very happy to see that they still had quite a bit of items available. Everything was absolutely amazing. So delicious. Such a great selection. Balanced flavor. Nothing overly sweet or so sugary that all you tasted was sugar. I highly recommend this place if you've never been. I will definitely be back. read more

I know the line is always long and it was today. This meant I could kill some time before grocery shopping. Nope. Fast. Like really fast service. And....THE LINE WAS THE BEST PART!!! Read below. Usually I'm not one to hand out 5 stars on a first visit but this place is a gem. I'm so damn lucky to live 5 minutes away since people come from all over the state. I love the outdoor area that is always clean and well kept. The seating area inside is big enough but a lot of people get things to go. This place knows how to win you over in the first couple minutes. I wanted a coffee and something small. Oh Hell no. While in line, the staff is so wonderful, pointing out favorites and keep every display full. It's as if you miss out on service by not standing in line!! The line is the fun part! The girl at the register was so sweet. Quick to type everything in and the prices are reasonable, if not way cheaper than what I imagined. My cappuccino was made quickly and my pastries were bagged within a minute. And wow. Absolutely the best pastries I've had in so very long. Super fresh. It's like I was back in Savannah, GA at the French Market! The I loved the blueberry lemon scone but I picked out so many things I didn't know I wanted till I saw them. Carrot cake pastries and an oatmeal crème pie for my husband. I will never ever bypass this again because of the line and I will be back way more often than my waistline needs. Love you Black Market Bakers!!! read more

This place hits it out of the park every single time! Every pastry I have tried has been phenomenal (and I've tried a lot). They have the most creative, delicious seasonal treats. The dining room is small and the spot is popular, so you may want to get there early or take it to go. Despite the busy weekend rush, the line goes fast and the staff is super friendly! read more

I kept seeing Black Market Bakers on IG, and I happened to be up early one day, so I decided to go. My plan was to arrive on the early side, as apparently the line is often out the door. I arrived right before they opened at 6:30am, and there were already a handful of people waiting. Once they opened, 2 people were taking orders, so things went rather quickly. I was not a fan of the chai tea latte, but the pastries were great! I got an almond croissant which was HUGE and one of the best I've had. I also got their King Cake Cream Bun, which was a special for Mardi Gras, and that was delicious! Customer service was lovely, and there are seating areas inside and outside if you want to enjoy your goodies there. I was so tempted to buy more, but decided not to overdo it, which means I'll definitely be back. read more

Great, fast and efficient service. Delicious and picturesque pastries. A perfect hazelnut latte. The ham and Swiss croissant almost had me going back in for a second immediately ! The line was long and they just make it through so quickly and efficiently. Can't wait til I'm back in town again!! read more

We stopped at Black Market Bakers to grab a bite with our niece. We walked in as the well decorated space was filled with patrons. There is the smell of fresh baked breads as soon as you s We looked over the menu and decided on the turkey breakfast sandwich, a bacon breakfast sandwich, and a ham and cheese croissant. All were tasty but beware the turkey breakfast sandwich is made with roasted turkey and not a turkey sausage patty. The service was WONDERFUL the person at the cash register was patient and friendly. They gave suggestions as well. Overall a great experience and place for delicious bites. read more

It's rare to revisit a bakery within the same week after seeing that they're closed on Tuesday but let's just say the week is starting and I cannot wait to return. The staff is very friendly and the food is to yearn for. I love the sandwich's and sweet treats. There's places to sit but it's very popular so there's that. It's quiet enough to talk and keep a conversation. read more

PASTRIES OVERLOAD! I looked at the beautiful display case and couldn't decide what to purchase. The bakery is airy. The staff was very attentive and were available to answer any questions I had. Decided on the CINNAMON ROLL. So soft no need to heat. Cream cheese icing wasn't too sweet it was light & airy. It was HUGE Palm size. The best cinnamon roll Ive had. BISCUIT Little salty, not the flaky type. It was doughy and a little cloying. It was the size of 2 typical biscuits. Another HUGE pastry. The CAPRESE sandwich on Focaccia was delish. The bread was salty, nice and airy. The Arugula was spicy, Pesto was earthy. I would have loved salt & pepper on tomatoes & mozzarella for flavor. read more

I stopped here to pick breakfast up for my mother and I, after she told me how good their breakfast sandwiches were and how MASSIVE their bakery selection is, and that.. it was! Alex I believe his name was, so was so helpful with my selection and gave warm welcome! We finalized on the El Blanco and Breakfast Sandwich that we wound up splitting. (Bonus points for cutting the sandwiches by default for easier sharing) I typically am good with adding and taking pictures for my review,s, but this time.. it just did not happen. On my next visit, I will be sure to take pictures and try some of their many desserts! read more

Probably the best bakery I've been to in Maryland. Not only for their pasteries, but their bread is top tier as well. Their sandwichs are also super delicious. I can honestly say I've never been disappointed at either location. Yes the price point is a little higher, but the people who work their are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Plus you pay for quality, and you will not be disappointed. read more

Black market was so good it should be sold on the black market. Everything was out of this world delicious. All of the pastries baked to perfection. Every cream and filled oozed out and I felt like a little kid trying to navigate eating it. The one that blew me away was the frosted cinnamon roll. I don't think I've ever had one that frosted, gooey, and balanced with cinnamon. If you are on the savory side of things, the ham and cheese croissant was also heavenly. Good ingredients used and oh so flakey. The line was out the door the entire time we were there eating and I saw why. With the line out the door, we did not wait long, so it moves fast. It also did not seem as though they run out of pastries because they were making them and constantly putting out new ones. I will definitely be going back and I will likely be ordering half the menu again. read more

I was in the mood for some caffeine and stumbled across Black Market Bakers. There was a line to the door but it moved pretty quickly. The people working the line were very knowledgeable about the breads and other treats available. I do wish there were signs to identify the desserts because the two items I wanted from the "specials" list weren't available. I was told that what is out is all they had left, which is fine but I didn't know what was what. I ordered a White Mocha Latte with oat milk which wasn't really sweet but it was good. I settled for a chai croissant and chocolate peanut butter croissant for later. They were huge but I didn't like either one. They both had unexpected filling on the inside that has a weird texture and ruined the croissants for me. The shop was nice and felt welcoming. I would likely return in the future and try some of their other specials. read more

I got the egg sandwich here in March, it's now December and I am still thinking about it almost every day. First off, this place has a great selection of breads and bakery treats. I came in after a redeye to BWI and bought just about one of everything and can't think of one bad pastry. I especially loved their seasonal savory, some sort of goat cheese asparagus tart. The egg sandwich was awesome: choosing your bread, cheese, and egg made me feel like I had the full run of the bakery. Our service was really quick as well, so we were in and out in just a bit over ten minutes. Hope I can make it back up here! read more

Huge fan of this place. Stopped by after biking in the area and wanted to check out the baked goods. I saw a person post them on IG and am so happy I remembered. The bakery is large-ish with a few tables inside and some in the outdoor area. V we're happy we secured an outdoor one on this lovely day. The line was long but service was friendly and fast. They post the menu in a few places while you're in line, in order to expedite the process, since that have some items that are in addition to those that are typically offered. While I was in line, I could also see some sandwiches and ttried a couple of those as well. Coffee cake - Huge, soft, great flavor Salted caramel cruffin - Salted caramel is my weakness and this, in particular, is one of my fave items. It's huge, has great cream on top, and the cream and salted caramel in the center is delicious. The actual croissant part was flakey and crisp. It gets messy, but I don't mind at all. Mozz sandwich - First off, the focaccia is flavorful and slightly crunchy but still soft. The tomatoes and mozz were fresh and the arugula was a perfect addition. I also took some bites of the bro's ham & cheese on a baguette. The flavors just worked with the mustard and pickles. Simple, tasty. If you don't like baguettes, don't get this. He doesn't like crusty bread but I'm all about it. I wish this place was closer to me. All of this quality, delicious food cost only slightly more than $30, to boot. Yes, please. read more

Visited a few weeks ago and was surprised by how busy this place was! Totally makes sense though the staff were tentative and kind, the vibes inside were like any modern bakery showcasing their baked goods. The inside seating was limited but nonetheless there. They have outdoor seating as well. They offer savory bites as well! My friends tried two sandwiches from the location, really enjoyed it! I stuck to their sweeter bites and was happily enjoying my box of pastries! I would definitely come back here and urge people to check it out even if it's busy! read more

Oh my! I want one of everything!! Our party of five tried three different specialty sandwiches (roast beef was, by far, the best ever!). We also ordered five different pastries. Oatmeal cream pie (the size of my face) was so delicious! Staff was so friendly. Locals tell us sometimes there is a line going outside the door, but the staff is fast. Only negative: with our large order, all in well-sealed boxes, I didn't know we were missing a sandwich until we got home. . $100 spent, not including a tip, & our order wasn't double-checked. That said, I would go back. read more

In my initial review for the BMB food truck spot in 2021, I said "Believe the hype! It's all true." The same goes for their brick-and-mortar spot in Edgewater. On the weekends, the line is out the door and down the sidewalk, so be prepared to wait. I like to go on Wednesdays or Thursdays around lunch time when they're not as busy. They are open every day of the week except for Tuesday. Follow them on social media (Facebook and Instagram) to see what goodies/specials they have for the week. They have seating indoors and outside in front of their store. Tables are hard to come by when they're busy. Their standard menu offers various breakfast sandwiches and avocado toast, as well as their daily specials, classics, and bread specials. The butter croissant and chocolate croissants are my favorite. I also love their savory pastries. Earlier this year, they started offering sandwiches after 10:30am: ham, gruyere and cornichon with mustard on baguette, caprese sandwich, and a chicken salad sandwich. Each sandwich is delicious, but the chicken salad sandwich is the best. The addition of golden raisins adds a pop of sweetness, and I don't even like raisins! I've been patronizing this business since 2021 and have no plans to stop. The employees and owners are friendly, welcoming, and answer any question you may have as to what fabulous goodies are before you. It's all hands on deck here. read more

Seriously if there was an option to go higher than 5 stars, they would get it. They have the kindest staff possible, attentive, helpful, and friendly. Their food (that changes weekly, which is already impressive) is beyond delicious. Finally made it here, and Black Market Bakers did not disappoint. I'm a sucker for bread and sweet and savory items. I purchased an assortment of pastries, blueberry muffins, mango scones, and snickerdoodle cookies. I really wanted a cuffin, but they were sold out by the time I got to the register. Oh well, another reason for me to make another trip. On my way out, I noticed they had some lunch sandwiches. I was tempted to go back and purchased what looked like a chicken salad sandwich on croissant, but i decided against it as I had already spent about $50. I waited until I got home to eat my first pastry. It was a blueberry strudel with a flaky crust. It was delicious, filling, and satisfying! As much as I wanted to devour another pastry, I waited until after dinner to consume my next one. It was a guava croissant that had lots of filling. I look forward to visiting again as they have a variety of items that I would like to try, and it seems like the menu is always changing. I look forward to visiting again soon. read more

Walking into Black Market Bakers is the closest equivalent to walking into a real life Willy Wonka Chocolate factory. There are things that you want to eat everywhere you look, it's equal parts overwhelming and riveting. I'd have taken magazine quality [iphone] photos if my kid didn't have to go to the bathroom for the entirety of the 5-10ish minute wait. We opted for breakfast sandwiches on sourdough and focaccia respectively and were delighted at the size (yuuuuge), the sandwiches were delicious, the bread was the star of the show, but the thiccck bacon slabs were a very, very close second. We got our toddlers the lemon blueberry scone which was such a treat and big enough that they shared. Each kid refused to lie down and accept their yummy pastries and stole many kid-sized bites of our sandwiches. We still have an OG cinnamon bun and a cannoli cruffin for later. We hands down would've eaten that too but were too full (bummer). Closing thoughts: the person who took our order was so kind and patient, she was very sweet while we stuttered through our order (stuttering because with all those options it's a genuine struggle not to ask for the whole menu). I got a hot oat milk vanilla latte that was made perfectly. My single complaint is that we were charged for (and received) an extra breakfast sandwich. Now, complaint because we didn't intend to order or eat the last sandwich and we are so dang full that it's safely riding home with its pastry friends to be a snack later. So complaint? Maybe? Perhaps it was the universe knowing that BMB needed an afternoon encore in the comfort of our home. Will be back soon to eat our way through the rest of the menu. read more

I've gotten pastries, sandwiches and coffee at the establishment several times now and have been blown away from each visit. The food is outstanding, the employees are professional and friendly and the restaurant is always clean. I'm always blown away by the creativity of the pastries. Some are better than others but if you like to experiment like I do, you'll be in pastry heaven. And rest assured, none of the pastries have ever been nasty. This is my first time posting pics bc my family and I dig into them as soon as the box is open. Lastly, their biscuits are some of the best I've had in a really long time. Always a great experience at BMB. The staff is quick, efficient, and pleasant each time you come. Despite what may appear as a long line. I am typically in and out very quick regardless of order size. There is seating indoors and outdoors and ample close parking. They offer a variety of items but I stick to the basics. The black market bun, chocolate chip cookie, and breakfast sandwiches are all a must try. The old bay tofu sandwich is by far my fav...give it a try...it's different but yet One of the best kept secrets in the area...worth every bit of a 20 min drive. I arrived before 10 AM the next day and they had them available. They even told me how many they had left, 15. I bought 6! They have some of the most unique pastries I have ever tasted! Apparently, when you ask for no meat on a breakfast sandwich, that means extra bacon grease with extra bacon.

Excellent pastries and beautiful interior. I love the vibes of the place, and it seems very neat and clean. Pastries on display are easily visible through the glass, and the line moves quickly. After you order, you wait for them to package your order, and everything comes neatly packaged. Everything looked wonderful, but in the end, I got the Strawberry Lemon Cruffin, Cherry Blossom Bun, and Banana Mascarpone Muffin. The cruffin and buns were pretty similar in that they both used flaky, buttery, soft puff pastry, and pastry cream. The pastry cream was wonderfully rich and thick. The banana muffin was hefty, with a crunch from crumbles on top, and soft on the inside. I appreciated that it didn't include nuts. The mascarpone was good, but didn't add much to the muffin.
