Overall rating: 3.75/5 -- This branch bakery opened at the somewhat industrial part of West St, where nearby businesses are mostly car dealerships and other specialized shops. It is not an ideal location to garner a lot of meandering foot traffic; its customers have to choose to come (it does offer ample parking as it shares a lot with an evening stage theater). On the whole, I thought the food was OK, but the experience would not induce me to make a special pilgrimage if I don't live nearby. The Yays: * The bakery is spacious and well lit. * The staff is friendly and helpful. They give off a community bakery vibe. * the size of their offerings is HUGE! I guess you get your money's worth? The Meh: * The staff is perhaps too busy to survey their space and to make sure that the environment stays clean. We found three empty tables, but all three of them were dirty. We can certainly bus our own table, but it compares less favorably with establishments that are more proactive in cleaning. * If you don't drink coffee, the beverage selection is limited (bottled soda, water, or a brand of overly-sweet juice) * We tried the following food items: - a ham and cheese croissant and a ham and cheese breakfast sandwich -- on the plus side, the croissant is flakey, but overall, the combo is too greasy. - avocado toast -- the tomato and avocado smear is good (well seasoned) but the bread is somewhat dry and thin. - cinnamon crumb cake -- the texture is spot on (moist, gently crumbly) but the cake was too sweet. Also, there was a strange after-taste, faintly like cilantro. This is somewhat off-putting (and I speak as someone who likes cilantro!) Even half an hour later, my tongue still feels slightly numb and weird. * There were several fruit tarts on display -- like most things this place offers, they are ginormous -- but they looked a little dried out. read more

Let me start with yum!! I came here on a Monday afternoon around 1230pm to work and eat. I ordered an El Blanco without meat, an Iced Tea and a pastry that was filled with apples, and some type of custard. Everything was amazing. I was overwhelmed at the choices, but the woman that took my order was great. She was extremely nice and helpful. Mouth watering as I type this. The brioche takes it to another level -- soft, buttery, and the perfect balance to the savory sandwich. To sip? A hot white chocolate oat milk latte. It has been hitting especially right with these cold Maryland days we've been having. Smooth, comforting, and made just right. Now the sweet treat is where I switch it up. * First visit: oatmeal pie -- good, but a little too sweet for my personal taste. (If they ever make straight-up homemade oatmeal cookies? Oh my gosh how is this place so overwhelmingly delicious? There are so many things to choose from and every one of them was better than the next. the avocado toast was great with an egg added to it but the honeybun stole the show for me. We also enjoyed the tiramisu pastry and the baklava pastry. They make great coffees too. Small seating area that consistently has a wait for a table and now I get it. Yum yum yum! read more

This was a quaint little bakery located in the port area. There was a good amount of parking, but be sure to read the signs. The avocado toast could have used some additional flavors to make it more savory, so i would opt to try some of their breakfast sandwiches next time around. They have a limited menu in terms of breakfast items. But they have a nice selection of treats, including vegan items. It would be a lot easier if things were labeled, but staff did a wonderful job explaining everything. I would return for the pumpkin maple muffin I had for sure! read more

While staying in a nearby hotel I saw a family have these amazing cinnamon buns in the breakfast space, I needed to find these. We had driven past this place on our way back the day before so we had already looked it up. This was a sign! So on our way out of town we stopped by and soooooooo glad we did. It was packed and rightfully so. We were at the location on WEST ST. It was so hard to choose what to try but we had to make sure it traveled well since we were heading home. My husband got a ham & cheese pastry and ate warm there so it was delicious. I was waiting for this little spot to open up! I did not realize it was right across from my house. I walked in and it was a nice cozy vibe. The menu is to the right when you get on the line. There is fresh bakery items and you can see them while you figure out what you want to get! They also have sandwiches and beverages. I had the vanilla honey danish and it was soooo good! Black market bakers is the place to be for breakfast! Be sure to grab your spot in line early because the line will spill out the door especially on weekends! The original breakfast sandwich is delicious, the eggs are dippy making for a messy but tasty meal. The sourdough bread is excellent and it's so hard to choose from their variety of pastries! The chocolate croissant was flaky and sweet, and the fig pastry was definitely a crowd favorite. It even changed a couple of my friends opinions on figs! Everyone working here was patient and kind. They kept the coffee containers full and there's complimentary water. Bathrooms are clean and right across from the front door. There are about 3 tables inside (noise level is pretty high since it's a small eatery) and a couple tables outside. Many marina parking spaces and room by the front. Good food, nice staff. Former restaurant and cafe staff here...You really, badly need to do something about the "campers" situation. When several tables at 9:30 am on a Saturday are taken up by people camped out with no food (or just their trash, for the entire time I was there), obviously they're a. selfish AF, b. emboldened b/c the business doesn't do anything about it. The worst was a young woman taking up an entire 4-top in the corner with her laptop open and an old coffee cup. After standing with my hot coffee for 15 minutes, when my eat-in food was ready, I sat down at that table (one of the three empty chairs) to eat my food. I had to endure her abuse for daring to sit at "her" table. At least follow the lead of other businesses that disallow laptop use on the weekends, please?! And change the seating configuration? Most similar places have one long communal table and some "rail/window" seating. read more

It is a dangerous discovery when you're only a stone throw away from a Black Market Bakers. This is one I must caution and for my sake, exercise great discipline. I could get one of everything LOL! I have enjoyed the caprese on foccacia, chicken salad on croissant, and several pastries. My most favorite is the blueberry lemon scone and banana mascarpone muffin. I've not been lucky to get their cinnamon bun. There are vegan options weekly so check them out, as noted they're subject to availability! The team here are so hospitable and during my first few visits were incredibly patient with all my asks and requests. I simply appreciate the one to one no pressure service. Parking is tricky once you get into the boatyard, the building is left of Baywoods right at the Port Annapolis Marina. There are no EV stations, and ramps are accessible off the lot. First time at the highly recommended Black Market Bakers and it did not disappoint! It smelled amazing in there and was organized. When I arrived, it was a long line but it moved quickly. I got the breakfast sandwich with focaccia bread and that was good, huge portion. It was slightly salty but still had a fresh taste. The banana mascarpone muffin was my favorite and it almost tasted like a cupcake. Very good. I will be back to try more treats! read more

The stars of the show were the pastries. Ordered the sugar cookie (but given the chocolate chip one instead - mix up behind the counter), the almond croissant (dangerous!) but the stars of my day was the croffin. Something this buttery and flaky and chewy with the perfect balance of sweetness should be illegal! How do they do it? Seriously? I took a bite and thought I would lose my mind - simply WOW. I went to the new Annapolis location after having good experiences at the Bembe Beach Road location. Hopefully they are just having start up problems BUT..... the experience of selecting products and purchasing is super chaotic and th products are bagged in a back kitchen so you can't see what they are actually giving you. When I got home I realized that they had my order wrong and the one thing they did get right (baguette) was crushed (before being bagged). The pumpkin muffin they included (which I did not order) was actually raw batter inside. The scone (we returned to the store to get our original orders) was more like a small, tasteless, biscuit than a scone. I did reach out to the company before writing this review. read more

The dessert in my photo is their strawberry rhubarb jam bar, which was a nice combo of sweet and oat. I got two different scones and I thought thy were alright. Probably won't get a scone again but I will definitely come back to tryout the other pastries. I thought the sandwhiches were just alright. The turkey sandwhich tasted kind of bland. I think they might have forgotten the mayo or just didn't put enough. Found this hidden gem, and couldn't be more impressed. Literally hidden in what seems like a private boaters community. Black Market does have flagship location in Edgewater, but this newer location is right in a boat marina/park. Great views with a little recreation area. Delicious selection of pastries and sandwiches, and nice coffee options. There's a beautiful patio area around back, with plenty of tables and chairs that overlooks the marina. Picture perfect place to have morning, coffee or lunch. It also has a playground for the kiddos and a trail head is nearby for easy hike. I was a big fan of their delicious focaccia, it was oily (as it should be in a good way) and made for a good caprese sandwich. The oatmeal pie (vegan) was quite large and creamy!! This is the current bakery and the customer service is amazing! The team was welcoming and walked me through all of the choices in the display. I grabbed two treats a cruffin and another pastry with raisins (I forgot the name). The bread on the pastries was tasty but the pastries themselves were not my favorite but I think this is because I don't think I love pastries as much as my mind and body say I want to. Truly stunning baked goods, with croissants just as good or better than those I've enjoyed in Paris. Creative, delicious specials of the week as well. Delicious treats/desserts. A limited menu for breakfast or lunch items and that makes it easy to order. The women behind the counter (most) are cheerful and helpful with recommendations of which yummy bread/ cookie/cream filled treat, etc. to chose. The seating is limited but I imagine many of the customers take their goodies back to their boats so they don't need a bigger space. We've only been twice but everything we've ordered has been delicious.
