Nicky's is one of my favorite restaurants. I can't guess how many times I've visited, but I can tell you that not once - not one time, have I ever been disappointed. Their beef Phad See Eaw is one of the finest dishes anywhere. The beef is always tender the noodles are amazing. Their Tom Kha soup is fantastic as is the pumpkin curry. The Thai iced coffee is, I'm running out of adjectives, fantastic. Even their salads are superb, I mean seriously - who gets excited about salads? They have one of the nicest patios and the staff are always great and the food comes out quickly. read more

My wife and I stopped by Nicky's for lunch on a Saturday. We decided to sit outside on their extensive patio, as the interior is a bit tight and claustrophobic. We started with some pork dumplings, which were pretty good and obviously made from scratch. We then each ordered a curry. My wife tried the mango curry with shrimp, and she really enjoyed it. She went with the lowest spice level and was happy with the flavor. I tried a green curry with tofu at a 4 on the 1-5 scale. It was hot, but not ridiculous, and was very good if a maybe a bit thin. The lunch portions were a perfect size, and we left full but without doggie bags. The staff were very friendly and attentive, the place was clean, and we had a lovely time. read more

Nicky's has consistency when it comes to their food, and that's invaluable, in my opinion! Their Mt. Nebo location is beautiful and spacious, and they have such generous portions. I always enjoy their pumpkin curry, their pad thai, and spicy basil fried rice. That being said, everything they serve is great! They're great for dine-in or pick-up, and both are great options - it's a great meal no matter the setting. It's likely one of my favorite Thai spots in Pittsburgh at this point! You can't beat the atmosphere here, it feels like you are sitting in Bangkok. Service was good and so too was the food. The Pad See Ew and garlic chicken were tasty dishes (both with chicken). My brother (who lived in Bangkok for 20 years) got a special on the menu that night that was a thin fried flounder-like fish. The star of the whole meal though was the Tom Yum soup. Had dinner Friday night at Nicky's. We ordered fresh spring rolls and a curry dish. My wife ordered a basil dish. First, the fresh spring roll were the absolute worst spring rolls as they were gummy, with only fried tofu in the roll- barely edible. Our main courses both had chicken. The chicken was super tough, very little fresh vegetables in the dish, mainly sauce. The sauce was also rather flavorless, just salty. Finally, and this really annoyed us, was the check came and they automatically added 20% to the bill, saying it represented a service fee. They also were suggesting another tip (another 20-25%) beyond what they already tacked onto the check for the "service fee". Nice atmosphere, but food was sub standard, expensive and their business practices are suspect to say the least. Super disappointed in the meal, but most restaurants have an occasional bad night. However their unethical business practice is why we'll never go there again. Shameful and I hope more patrons will call them out on this outrageous business practice. Unfortunately I couldn't give a zero, so I had to give a qualified 1 star. read more

I've been a fan and customer of this place for a long time. We were there for lunch and had a few issues. It's really cold outside right now and the restaurant seemed colder than it should be. But after a cup of hot tea I felt better. I asked for another cup and both the waitress and the manager(?) told me no free refills. It's hot water that was brewed most likely in a large pot in the back - a second cup of tea is not an expense the restaurant can't afford, and a little exception to their rule on a bitter cold day could go a long way. My sister in law also said where her seat was really cold. There was a vent directly over my head that we realized had cold air blowing in her direction when it was running. It started running on high again just as our entrees came and I asked if they could either turn down the fan or turn up the heat. Again, the manager emphatically told us no, saying that was the heat for the entire restaurant. He said we could move to another table, but she didn't think it would make much difference and it would have been a pain moving everything so we stayed there. I enjoyed my food but my sister in law said hers was missing a key ingredient. We didn't want to tell them and have them argue with us again so we ate, paid and left. The manager made us feel unwelcome. The waitress was nice enough but between the no refills policy, the refusal to make the temperature more comfortable for us, the issue with one entree and the automatic 20% service charge on the bill, we will probably try somewhere else for Thai/Asian food next time. I wish our experience would have been as good as previous times. Note - We were the only customers there for half the time and the hours on their door indicated that they would be closing up in about an hour for a break until dinner. A group of 12 of us stopped by around 5:30pm on a Sunday for an early dinner. We called when we were on the way and they were able to set up a large table and seat us almost right away. We also let them know we wanted separate checks which they were able to accommodate and added on a 25% automatic gratuity. The inside decor was super cute. It was spacious with a fairly large dining room, little bar area, and also outside patio seating. The food was delicious. I really enjoyed my Tom Kha soup and my friends really enjoyed their food and drinks. My one friend did note that his pork belly dish felt like it was spicier than the level three that was requested but otherwise no other complaints food wise. Our service was friendly but they forgot to ever give me my Thai Island Ice Tea that I ordered (they didn't charge me for it and luckily my friend let me try hers) and they tried to give me the regular Tom Kha soup instead of the hotpot version I ordered. I've ordered take out from the Mt Nebo location many times and dined in a couple of times. Yesterday we dined in for lunch. I've had menu items to go from their curry menu, rice dishes as well as their noodle dishes. This time I opted for a salad. I'm not 100% clear on what a traditional Thai salad looks or what it contains so maybe my expectations were set wrong but regardless it wasn't my favorite dish there. Other dishes I've had from here are just okay. Nothing I would order when craving a Thai dish. As for the salad, there was one leaf of lettuce. All of the vegetables were so large nothing was bite size or able to be eaten without it being sliced into several chunks. Biggest complaint, the dish the salad was served in was not large enough to thoroughly slice any of it. I had such a mess of things falling off the plate. The chicken was also dry and hard to slice. This location has gone down hill after new management. They nickel and dime every single thing. Rice is the cheapest thing and they charge you for it by not even giving you the whole bowl. Now they have a sign on their door and menu that basically reads you cant share food, unless you have the equal amount of your party to the # of dishes. If you share they charge you a $10 sharing plate fee. Like what?! Also, the size of the plates--appetizer size plates not even dinner plates. We asked to speak to the manager 10 min. after being seated. The bill came out quicker than the manager. We didn't even get to enjoy our meal or evening. horrible service--will never be coming back. I had wanted to try Nicky's for a couple of years. We often stay on the North Side but Nicky's always seemed to lose out to Peppi's. This time we were having lunch with friends from Aliquippa. Mount Nebo was conveniently located not too far off either 79 or 279. There is ample parking and and a nice outdoor dining area. Service was attentive without being overbearing. We were not rushed even though the 3 PM close of lunch was fast approaching. But our eye was on the clock. We are mindful of employees' "off times". Overall a solid 5 on all 4 meals that were ordered. Our friends had pineapple curry and mango tilapia. After reading the reviews, I had Phad See Eaw and hubby had Chicken Teriyaki. You are offered a choice of soup or salad. I opted for the soup which was unlike anything I had before. It was delicious. I could tell my husband's salad was crisp. Portions were sizeable. Mine as well as hubby's had huge amounts of chicken. All four of us had leftovers. I had enough left over for a dinner and another lunch. Be aware that the tip is added to your bill, at least on parties of 4. We were told that but didn't at the time understand the server. It was circled but the circle went through the "1". I saw this but my friend wasn't convinced because it wasn't clear and math isn't her thing. So she added more. The restaurant was NOT trying to be tricky but perhaps they should be more careful when circling the tip. I nearly forgot, we shared some excellent crab rangoon. I've been to Nicky's many times, but have never eaten at this location. We went with a group of 6 and had an early dinner reservation because we were heading over to McLaughlin's Distillery for a tour after. By 5:30pm Nicky's was packed. We started with the combo sampler appetizer (forgot to get a pic) but everything on it was very tasty. The steamed dumplings were my favorite. I had the red curry chicken, spice level 2. It had a nice kick and was the perfect spice level for me. The flavor was great but the chicken was a little dry. My husband had the Phad See Eaw with chicken. The noodles were overcooked and mushy and his chicken was also dry. Most of the rest of our group had the pad Thai, which they all said was very good. And I personally think that's one of the best things on the menu. Overall, I do still really like this place and will continue to go here. I do prefer the north side or downtown locations for ambiance. Even though this location does have an outside patio for the warm weather, I don't think you can beat the outside patio in the northside. It's just a bit cozier. read more

My sister-in-law loves Nicky's so we made a reservation for a Friday night to celebrate her Birthday. The outside covered porch was packed with people but the tables are spaced out nicely so you don't feel like you're sitting on top of each other. We ordered some of their specialty cocktails to start and some fried spring rolls and a fresh summer roll. The Thai Negroni was not very good - way too much grapefruit or something and did not really taste like a typical Negroni so perhaps that is just a preference thing. The spring rolls and summer roll were absolutely perfect. It was a great start to our meal. My SIL ordered the mango chicken and absolutely loved it. It was filled with big pieces of chicken and mango. I ordered the green curry with chicken and the sauce was to die for good with huge pieces of chicken and fresh veggies. We also got a Glass Noodle salad that was super fresh and perfectly spicy and finished the meal with an order of the Pumpkin Custard which came in these nice sharable squares. This visit, we got one of our favorites, the Pad Thai Tom Kha special that comes with dumplings, chicken satay, and tom kha soup. FAVORITE THAI FOOD. We are Thai food FANATICS around here and have always loved Nicky's. We typically order takeout, but went to the Mt. Nebo location last evening and had an awesome dinner (as expected) - food and service were both wonderful! Had a "girls night" for dinner, so we each ordered our own soups, shared an order of Crab Rangoon, and shared the Kao Soy. I ordered the Tom Yum Soup and it was SO flavorful and the broth had so much depth (even at heat level 1), and my daughter had the Wonton Soup which was equally as delicious. The Crab Rangoon is a go-to favorite for us as they have the the crispiest and creamiest around here. We were feeling pretty full after the appetizer & soup, so decided to share the Kao Soy (with shrimp) at a heat level 2. It was the perfect amount of spice and cooked to perfection, as always! Just a few FYI: 1. They are spice level 1-5! 2. I ordered a glass of wine, but FYI you can BYOB here for a corkage fee (I believe it was around $15). 3. They also have amazing outdoor seating with fire to stay warm, but it was a still little too cool for that on the evening we went. 4. Came here for a friend's birthday and we loved it. we made reservations in advance, so we were seated immediately. They had the cutest christmas tree up by the counter and a few other decorations around the restaurant. The plates and glasses are always super nice! We all ordered something different and everyone loved their dish. I had wonton soup and pad thai with beef. The scale of spice is 1-5 and I got a 3 and felt like it was comfortable. I would've said it was more mild than medium, but the two girls to my right also got theirs a level 3 and said it had pretty good heat. I guess it depends on the dish! Our table was a party of 5 and when the check came out, they had already added a 20% service charge, but highlighted it/circled it so we knew in advance. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. We never had dirty dishes or empty glasses hanging around for long. We always enjoy our time at Nicky's. I have been meaning to try this restaurant for years now, and I am beyond satisfied with the food, service, and ambiance. The happy hour menu is pretty limited. I ordered the Thai Island Iced Tea. It was very sweet but very good! I started with the Crab Rangoon appetizer. It came out very quick and was warm. They were cooked perfectly with a little crisp but not burnt. The only thing I wish was different, would be that there was a limited amount of actual crab in them. Even with that said, I loved how creamy they were and I would definitely order them again. For dinner, I ordered the pork Pad Thai. This dish also came out very quickly after ordered. I am not a huge fan of spicy food so I ordered it as a level two. It was not too spicy. My friend ordered a level three, which was just right for her. The portion of this meal is large. I was able to eat it for lunch the next day. Our waiter was very kind. He made sure we had anything we needed throughout our dinner and did not rush us. In my opinion, the outdoor seating was amazing. The addition of the fountain made it seem more tropical and unlike other restaurants in Pittsburgh. I loved all the plants and quiet music. I will definitely be back to try the Sweat and Sour chicken! read more
