And then after getting through that, it's always a long wait to get your supplies ohhh and God forbid you have to return something: you have to wait in the same line to get a return slip and then get hit with a 25% restocking fee. Was able to find a double entry front door with frame in stock for a reasonable price! Not even Home Depot or Lowes had any in stock surprisingly. Most places need you to place an order and takes anywhere between 6 weeks to 12 weeks. Service was nice and made the purchase easy and quick. We just picked up next day. You take the receipt inside towards the big counter and then go back outside towards the guys in forklifts. Give them the receipt and they bring out the door for you and help you load it. Plenty of parking. read more

Clearly Nichol's Lumber motive is profit. Which is unfortunate because I have made the switch from a big box store to shop local and ended up getting ripped off for unusable materials. Worked with the purchasing manager Rick Deen who guaranteed me a solution in person for there brittle/flaking birch and then ghosted me. I ended up having to go in person and he told me in the most condescending manner that it was me and not that and that he owes me nothing. (We do custom fabrications on the daily for some of the biggest musicians in the game and directly for the largest music festivals in the country - with out a doubt there's no issue with our experience or equipment) This is what's wrong with small Buisness these days is they forget they are also the little guy and that us small players become there large contracts. I bought $2500 worth of lumber in May from Nichols for a job that wrapped up yesterday. They delivered it initially, and blocked the whole driveway, when pulling down and to the side would have allowed my cars to get through without having to move it all by HAND. They had no respect where they dropped the load. This was "strike one". Then many of the boards were poor quality of pressure treated wood with big chunks missing and were unsuitable for my deck boards. There were at least 4-5 16-20 footers that did not get used, plus other boards and needed to be returned. So today when the job wrapped, I took hundreds of dollars worth of good and bad uncut lumber on my wood rack to the lumber yard and waited in a 45 min line for the return to get credit for the unused lumber. The service person turned me down flat. Then I went to the manager and was told there was a 30 day policy on limber returns!! What new house build project takes 30 days or less? Not even a room addition takes less than 30 days! Ganahl lumber took boards back today that I bought in March and April, and the Nichols lumber was purchased in May. They are a classy and solid outfit (Ganahl Lumber). Great customer service. Not Nichols. If you can buy from Ganahl lumber do it. This Nichols outfit has no water for waiting contractors sitting in 95 degree heat in long Covid lines. Can you spend 10-15cents to hydrate a waiting customer you make wait OUTSIDE in the HEAT? I brought this to the attention of the desk girls, and they said the case of water "might get stolen" like losing part of a $4.00 case of water is going to bother the budget of a company selling tens of thousands of dollars per day of lumber materials. Bottom line is this:. You may pay less at Nichols...Yes. But the wood is cheaper quality, and there is poor business policy and poor customer relations. I am a physician, and serving people's health needs is my business the past 40 years. I haven't got time to do reviews like this, but Nichols really ticked me off today, and I was very upset with their management. Ganahl is a well oiled professional machine and will save you TIME which is worth money too. I really didn't have the time to return the lumber, but I wanted it out of the driveway today. We're going through a major home renovation and addition and part of our project is to add a large deck with engineered wood and James Hardie siding. I was trying to get a quote over the phone of their costs for specific items, but I was told that we had to go there, so I dropped by since they seemed to have both the items we needed and I was hoping they might be cheaper than Ganahl and other bigger lumber shops. Anyway, when we went to the main counter, the woman who helped us was really rude and didn't offer any help trying to give us prices. It's too long to write about our conversation, but she wasn't helpful, but almost confrontational. Eventually, I was getting angry and I think she could sense that, so she started to lighten up, but it shouldn't take me getting frustrated to get decent service. I won't be going here again. As others have noted Ganahl has much better service, and that's not even that great, but compared to here, it's way better. read more

Over 20 years ago we used Nichols lumber to add sliding glass doors and new windows to our home. Louie.Sciandra is the one that helped our family. His knowledge and helping us to pick out the right product for our home was beyond helpful. We enjoyed that home for many years and loved the aesthetics of the new windows and sliding glass doors. We recently purchased three more sliding glass doors for our new home. Louie Sciandra explained how this new security lock is more advanced now and it comes with lock and key if desired. One lock and key went in perfectly fine then we accidentally unscrewed the wrong thing and in just one phone call, Louie connected us with the service department and they were able to help us in an instance. I highly recommend ordering your supplies through Nichols Lumber. We started our remodel in August and went into the store to get some guidance on interior door design and hardware. Joey was so instrumental in helping me narrow down the look I wanted for the second story remodel I was doing. I gave him photos and he would email me quotes right away with pricing. He was so on top of things. Through COVID many materials were backordered at other stores, but Joey made sure to follow up and give us realistic timelines on when to expect materials. Buyers beware. I paid extra for lumber that they call "exposed" which means the lumber will be installed somewhere a customer will be able to see and is exposed to them so it must be of higher quality. They loaded a pallet in my truck with two nice boards at the top. When I get to the job site and unload the materials I found only the top two boards of good quality and the rest you can say was trash lumber. When I called the lumber yard to complain they laughed and said I should have checked the lumber and that if I wanted to return it , that there is a 25% restocking fee. Needles to say I won't be returning to this lumber yard anymore. read more

If you have to return anything of the crappy wood they sell you they charge 25% "restocking fee" and on top of that the shady sales manager will try to screw you out of more money by claiming that the wood is dusty or another lame excuse to only give you 40% of what you paid. If you are planning a home makeover of some sort, you owe it to yourself to visit these guys. The selection of wood products is so far and above what you'll find at your local Home Depot and such. They have custom milled wood, odd sizes and things like trim that you have 3-4 choices of at other places, you have 20xs that here. It is true that they prefer to help builders and contractors because those guys have far larger sales but I saw the guys in the green shirts helping a guy that walked in with an idea and no idea how to achieve it. They sold him wood, the braces, screws and nails and everything he needed to take home for his porch project. As for me, I went in asked them for what I was looking for. They gave me some options and then overestimated the amount of material I would need. I needed about 250sqft of it and they almost sold me double. When I went to the desk to put the order in to pay, the guy said he would check the math and cut my order to a more reasonable amount. I've yet to install it so hopefully they did the math right but as far as the experience there. I was happy with the customer service, very happy with the selection and I plan on returning for trim and doors when we get there. read more

They delivered wood to my house for a project today. Upon delivery some pieces of the wood was broken off. I called the company regarding this issue and spoke with Rick the manager. He proceeded to cut me off while I was talking, and was extremely rude and condescending. The customer service was absolutely atrocious. If it's an emergency I may visit them again. Usually I buy extra parts so that I have them on the job site, but since they charge 25% return fee no matter how much you buy, I will probably never do business with this company again. We bought approximately $3,000 in Lumber and materials and they even charged me sales tax on the return of approximately $100 worth of materials. Be very careful when purchasing from this company to not purchase anything you do not have need for. They will screw you out of 25% of your purchase to walk something back to the Shelf! That is not good service in my opinion but it was explained to me that it was their policy. Good luck folks. We needed a good size piece of wood for a mantel. Went to a place in LA that sold reclaimed wood. Found a piece at the bottom of the pile and they wouldn't move it for just one piece. Someone recommended Nichols. We called and they were very helpful. Came out and we were delighted. Got to go back to the shed and pick out a piece. I spent about $60'000 on wood for my project and when I returned about 16 pcs of lumber they gave me a really hard time because it was a little late, and normally they charge 25% stocking fee. But on this wood they charge me 50% stocking fee. I mean who does that. About 30% of the lumber I had to make it work because it was all out of shape bend. But now I know they will lose a costumer, I will not be going there for my next project coming up soon read more

They have a great door and window showroom and all the salespeople are knowledgeable and very helpful. My experience with Nichols Lumber has been hit or miss. Some of the staff are friendly and professional, while some have surprised me in how unprofessionally they act. I've had one staff answer questions without making eye contact. When I bought some plywood and paid to have it cut, the man who cut it couldn't do basic addition, tried to get out doing all the cuts I paid for, and ruined part of the wood (at my expense). They do have some wood I can't find anywhere else, so they have that going for them. Otherwise I'd really rather go to Ganahl Lumber. read more
