    Newk's "Q" Sandwich
    Meena C.

I'm a fan of Newks and this most recent experience was no different. Quality food at a price that doesn't break the bank. We stopped here on a Friday night and it was pretty quiet. We wanted to order on the app, nut it looked like that option was not available at this store. So we ordered at the counter. It didn't take long for our food to arrive - everything was correct and looked fresh. I enjoyed my soup and salad, and my daughter enjoyed her cheese pizza. My only wish is that the kids meal came with a side. Wish there was a location in Trusssvile!

I came to get a gift card for a friend's birthday gift. There wasn't anyone at the front counter when I entered. Eventually, a nice woman came to assist with my purchase. She was very helpful. I really appreciate the service I received. Unfortunately, the available gift cards were still holiday themed. Oh well, it will still spend!

If I could do negative stars I would I found a baby roach in my sandwich and there was a black spot floating around in my water. And about a hour after I got home I threw up from food poisoning.

NEW - Boss "Q" (P) Whole Sandwich Pick A Pair Six Cheese Pimiento Mac with Bacon

Walking in, the location looks very nice! The interior is very large and very clean. The issues start when the order taking process begins. Me and my girlfriend asked for 2 Large Pairs: 1) Full Garden Salad (add bacon, add eggs) and a half cup of Loaded Potato Soup 2) Full Sandwich (Boss Q) and a half cup of 6 cheese Pimento Bacon Mac & Cheese In addition, we asked for two drinks. We had to repeat multiple times a person, what we wanted our order to be and how we wanted it (large pair.) The cashier kept just saying, "Okay....alright...so you wanted what?" She rang us up for a full salad, full soup, full sandwich, and full Mac & cheese. Roughly $5 more expensive than if it was done correctly. The wait wasn't too long, but when we were receiving our meals, our meals were mixed up from what we ordered (Salad with Mac & Sandwich with Soup) Not that big of a deal, but annoying that after we told her MULTIPLE times exactly what we wanted, we still didn't get it right with only a few mins between ordering and receiving the meal. When the waitress(who was the same cashier that took our order) was giving us our Mac & Cheese, the cashier coughed in the direction of us and our food. She paused, continued to put the food in front of us, and gave a quick "sorry" and laughed. She then walked off while putting headphones in. Once the food situation was sorted, we ate and it was delicious. A saving grace, for sure. When my girlfriend asked for a spoon, the cashier had to finish stuffing the rest of her pizza into her mouth before speaking through her food to say she'd bring one out. After she dropped off the spoon, she ran to the back kitchen where another one of the workers started flailing around with other workers yelling for "Mr. Manager" Unsure if this was her first day, and if so, it's understandable to be nervous, but the attitude and professionalism of the establishment was lacking. Food was delicious and is the reason the review has more stars than probably needed.

    Newk's Club

I hadn't been to Newk's in a couple of years and decided to pickup a sandwich for dinner. I decide to go with Newk's club which consisted of; Smoked ham, oven-roasted turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, cheddar, tomatoes and romaine lettuce. Topped with mayo and honey mustard. Of course this sounded tasty. For my side I opted for a bag of bbq kettle chips. When I got home and opened my sandwich I was a bit disappointed. There was a bunch of mayo and mustard, but where was the meat?!? I pretty much was eating a lettuce , tomato, mayo and mustard sandwich. Not sure if they were having a bad day, but I don't think I'll be returning. I gave the restaurant 2 stars because the guy working the counter was very friendly and the chips were good....that's it.

Pepperoni and Sausage Pizza. Bad lighting. . . I was in my car.

Wanted to grab a bite before a movie. I had an email for a pizza and drink special. I walked right in and was greeted by the cashier. She knew the exact special I was referencing and got me taken care of. I ordered the Pepperoni and Sausage pizza and a coke to wash it down. It was not busy, so I think my order was ready in less than 10 mins. I loved the look of my pizza and added a few extras with red pepper flakes, basil, and parmesan cheese. The pizza was delicious. I was only able to eat a few slices because I didn't want to get too full. The amount I was able to eat was just enough. On other reviews at different locations, I normally order the Newk's Q but I will add pizza in to the rotation. The restaurant for the most part was clean. The round table with the condiments could stand a spot check for small pieces of trash and spill but overall decent. If ever back on this side of town, I would visit again.

Inside of a half Buffalo chicken sandwich.

Ordered half of Buffalo chicken sandwich and loaded potato soup. The soup, after a little salt was added, was delicious. The Buffalo chicken sandwich did not look like the one advertised. A little light on filling with an overload of carrots. On a scale of 1 to 10, a 7.

I have never had a bad experience at the Newks in Vestavia. Even when it's busy, the service is good and you get your food quickly. I like that there soup menu changes daily. The chicken tortilla is my favorite and I enjoy dipping the breadsticks in the soup. Their salads are also not only good but also large enough to feed a family.

I was pleased that the had a large variety of options but even had gelato and desserts as well. Large pizzas run $21-$27 are thin crust. For pizzas, we got two of their Margheritas, Meat Buster and Palermo. They were all good and a hit at the family party. The meat Buster and Palermo had meat but honestly not a whole lot. They were good though. All the pizzas were lots of flavor and the sauce to cheese ratio was perfect. I loved that they had chili oil, extra dipping sauce, cheese, and peppers on the side for you to grab. While our time there we even had some gelato which was good and got some cheese cake to go. Our pizzas came out quick. The shop is very large with plenty of places to sit, even good for a large party. I loved that they even had plates on the table ready to go. This was a solid pizza spot and worth checking out if you prefer thinner crust.

Even after eating their pizza, I have never felt bloated or "bad" afterwards like some of my other experiences with pizza, which has strayed me away from pizza all together. I thought this was a really neat way to celebrate the city's history and highlight local cuisine. I decided to visit this restaurant because what is better than pizza? Something that can be saved and eaten for days. This restaurant definitely delivered wonderful food! I had the Margherita pizza, the appetizer meatball, and the beignets. The restaurant is located in a little shopping center in the heart of Cahaba Heights. It is a cozy bistro-style place. As usual, I got the food to go due to work. Unfortunately, I rarely get a chance to dine in and enjoy food at the establishment. So, I am very picky about to-go quality, and Troup's delivered. I had the margherita pizza, small 12-inch. It was still warm by the time I made it home. The mozzarella was fresh, and the perfect circle was cut and spread over each piece. The sauce was delicate and flavorful, tasting light and homemade as it should. I like a good amount of sauce, and it was very saucy. It was not overcooked in the slightest, with the cheese and basil still fresh and not burnt. The crust was more Neapolitan-style, softer toward the middle (it wasn't a true Neapolitan, though), but I like various styles of pizza, even hybrids, so I was happy. The spices used gave it great flavor. For a margherita pizza, it's definitely a thumbs up, and I would try it again. I also had their appetizer meatball, which was smothered in the same pizza sauce and fresh basil, and it was quite enjoyable. I am actually not a fan of meatballs unless they are cooked a certain way, usually a mix of meats and tender-ish, but I needed protein that day. Their meatball, I would say, qualifies as one I would eat again. It is a mix of ground pork, beef, and lamb. I am not a pork fan, but I could not taste much pork in this. I liked the beef and lamb, which gave it flavor, and it was cooked so that it was tender. Lastly, the meatball was huge in my opinion. I ate off of it for a few days (but probably most would finish it in 2 servings). Finally, I had their beignets. I tried one fresh before getting home, and it was delish! I honestly did not think they would hold well at home, and after I ate. I was pleasantly surprised. They were amazing, slightly warmed back up. Also, there were so many that I shared them with friends, who also very much enjoyed them. All in all, I would eat there again, even though it may be a bit pricey.

The pizza was good and we enjoyed but this flavor was probably just a little too much cream so I'd check out another flavor next time or build my own. I could use more of a red sauce base for Detroit style. Did takeout from The Summit- was mostly quick in and out. Hot, Freshly made and the crispy edges I adore. I like how their two sizes are listed on the website as sixer and tener. It's def not cheap but I guess not horribly priced either. With multiple locations in Nashville maybe I'll try them again eventually, or just default to my favorite, Jets, again which is close to home. But if you want somewhere with Detroit still to go sit down and dine, Emmy Squared can be your move.

That said, pricing has always been outrageous, and it's becoming harder to overlook. For example our most recent trip, we had two mains, and an appetizer, and the bill was $90. Had we gotten drinks, desserts, or any extras, we'd be looking at $150+. I asked for extra tomato sauce to go, and I was given what was literally two tablespoons of sauce, charged at an outrageous $3.50. I get that things are pricier now, but tomato sauce is one of the cheapest ingredients, organic or not and as a chain, I can guarantee you this isn't small batch, nor locally made. The markup here was just shocking. I know things cost more these days, but the price does not match the value. For this price point, you would expect much higher quality dining and you can get that easily in Birmingham. It's still a great dining experience, but we're increasingly cautious because the pricing has been a concern for years. It was like when Little Ceasars use to be bad because we all know they have gotten a lot better over the years. The pizza was really doughy. Like right on the verge of being raw dough.
