The good: Beautiful, open air lounge and restaurant. Plenty of seating. Great for date nights, solo dinners, or celebrating a special occasion. Food was tasty. My Greek salad was fresh and filling. Fair prices. The not-so-good: My date's veggies were cold. Not cool...cold. I tasted both the beans and the potatoes and, while they were very flavorful...both would have been even better had they been at the least warm. He told our server, and he received a fresh bowl of potatoes that were piping hot. This made them even better. He said his food was good overall after this correction was made. My pastichio did not live up to my expectations. I've eaten pastichio every year from the Greek Festival and they have me spoiled. While this version was tasty, it lacked what I have come to expect when I order this dish. It was basically noodles with a little meat sauce and a little cheese on top. I would not order this again. The server took too long in between checking on us. We sat waiting on him for refills and our check way too long. There's a fine art when it comes to this, and he did not master this. He was nice though so that helped. Overall, the experience was just okay for me. While the food was tasty and the aesthetic was fun and trendy, I think my expectations were too high. However, I will visit again in the near future and try another dish.
Beautiful, light-filled space with tons of windows and modern decor. Weekday lunch with a group. We sat in the lounge area while they prepared a table. The server was friendly and responsive, if a bit nervous. Had the hummus to start and it was amazing!! And the pita was fresh! I could have just eaten both of those. Had the sautéed gulf shrimp next. They were good but they were *drowning* in butter. My Greek salad was tasty but the vinaigrette was a little too salty. The fresh hummus and pita and all the windows were worth the four stars.
Don't let the name fool you! Tasty Town is a great spot with a fun midcentury modern vibe. Happy hours 4-6 PM M-F and they even serve brunch on the weekends. Food is solid and service is good. The bar is a feature and looks so inviting. I have eaten here for breakfast, lunch and dinner- as well as for events. The location next to Railroad Park and Regions Field makes it a great spot before or after events. Give Tasty Town a try- despite the name.
If you're craving a little slice of the Mediterranean right in the heart of Birmingham, Tasty Town is where it's at. This spot brings serious Greek vibes: fresh, flavorful, and full of soul. We had the beef souvlaki plate, and it was perfection. The beef was juicy, seasoned just right, and grilled to smoky goodness. The spanakopita was flaky and rich, and those lemon potatoes? Tangy, tender, and totally addictive. We also sipped on the Tasty Town gin and tonic, and it was as refreshing as a breeze off the Aegean--crisp, herbaceous, and the perfect pairing. The service? Friendly, fast, and full of Southern charm. You can tell this team takes pride in what they do. Tasty Town feels like a little vacation right off 20th Street. We'll definitely be back. OPA, y'all!
I really enjoy going to Tasty Town for lunch. I normally get the catfish lunch meal with the Village Salad and their French fries, and it's always exactly what I'm craving. I love that the catfish is crispy on the outside but still tender and flavorful on the inside. I also really like the Village Salad it's fresh and light, which balances out the heavier parts of my meal. I usually pair it with their French fries because I can't resist the crispy, golden texture. Excellent service and dining experience. Great spot for business dinners or lunch with friends. I've tried looking at their vegetarian options too, and while I don't usually get them, I think they have some solid choices. I like that I can customize a salad or get a few sides to make a meal that's vegetarian-friendly. I think Tasty Town does a good job of offering something for everyone. I personally stick to my usual catfish meal, but I feel like I could explore more of their options if I wanted to try something different. Overall, I really enjoy my lunches there, and I always feel satisfied and happy with my choices.
The Red Snapper with caper sauce, paired with Lemon Greek Potatoes and Stewed Green Beans, was absolutely delicious and bursting with flavor. The customer service was exceptional. I would definitely return!
We came into town to catch the show the Waitress and found Tasty Town before the show for dinner. We arrived at 5pm and from the time we arrived we were received with a warm welcome and just loved the atmosphere and vibe. Our server was the sweetest woman ever recommending drinks and helping us with the menu items and let me just say she did not disappoint. We absolutely loved every bite. She kept checking on us throughout our time there and we just had a fantastic meal and couldn't stop gobbling up everything. The ingredients are so fresh and tasted delicious . A definite stop if your in Birmingham and you have to try these desert looking donuts that I forget what there called (I'm sorry) but were absolutely delicious. My husband loved the coffee as well. Do your self a favor stop you won't regret it.
Update: did another pick-up order and was so disappointed. Giving them some grace and giving 3 stars. I walked in and had to wait quite a while to finally got acknowledged. It was kind of uncomfortable. No one was at the front hostess area. People made eye contact but did not offer to help. Finally someone helped, and I told them I was picking up a to-go order. She was perky and sweet. I checked my bag when I got to the car and realized I had no utensils. I went back in and asked, and they questioned it, as if I was not looking carefully enough. No...please, give me some utensils so I can eat this? They did. Once I finally opened the food, I realized it looked different compared to before. The meatballs lacked the sauce that my previous order had. It looked like a totally different dish. It was not nearly as enjoyable. I got the potatoes again and tried an order of the beans. Both were just okay this time. I was so sad because I thought this would be a good go-to kind of place.
So good! Came here for a birthday dinner for a friend and it truly never disappoints. Everything is always so fresh! Our server was incredible and took great care of our large group and birthday girl. It's bright and clean in the restaurant, and restrooms are well maintained. The pork pita and hummus were delicious!
True to what the other reviewers have said, the food is excellent quality, service is good but the portions are tiny and waaaay over priced. I have been here several times with others and to sit at the bar to try some appetizers and always leave regretting that I chose to come and dine. The servers are knowledgable about the menu, yes...almost a bit too much. Several occasions, without being asked if I had been there before or if I had questions, they legitimately went through EVERY. SINGLE. ITEM. ON. THE. MENU....INCLUDING THE SIDES. I mean holy overkill. They do oooze with pride over how everything is made to order from scratch, the minutes of each ingredient and some of the cooking steps... So after the mini cooking lesson that was unrequested, the ordering occurs. Service is fast and yes, the flavors are well balanced, tasty blahblahblah like others stated. But my god...think about the portion size that you would expect to receive after viewing the price point then decrease that by at least 1/3 of the size. ESPECIALLY the drinks. I'm talking maybe 5 sips for a $14 cocktail. I have very small hands and can almost touch my fingers around the widest part of the cocktail glass. Not for $14, no thank you. The next time I go back is if someone else is pay.
This is my new favorite Greek food! Everything I've tried has been phenomenal from the half chicken to the frozen Greek yogurt. The restaurant is bright and cheery, with a laidback, upscale vibe. Our service is always fast and friendly. I would highly recommend this place.
Nice dining experience. The waitress was very accommodating. The ambiance of the restaurant was very laid back. We discussed returning to eat outside or order and l take our orders to the. Park. The food was tasty. I had salmon with Mac and cheese and Lima beans. All was tasty.
Love love love this restaurant! Staff were super friendly and helpful. I ordered the snapper, lemon potatoes and small Greek salad. Initially wanted the branzino but they didn't have anymore. My food was delicious. My mom ordered the chicken and the chicken was so moist and tender! Make sure you ask for a side of gravy with the chicken! Highly recommend and can't wait to come back to try the branzino.
This review is specifically for the catered/box lunches we recently enjoyed from Tasty Town. Each lunch was boxed separately and included the silverware packet. That's a huge plus; the number of times I've seen referees having to pass on the side because they didn't have utensils! The entree was a chicken pita. It did have a few fresh onions, but I enjoyed them since I didn't have to be the one dragon breathing around the field all day. We did have a choice of roasted potatoes or basmati rice. The potatoes went much quicker than the rice; I had the potatoes and they were fantastic. There was also a tray of chocolate chip cookies provided. I don't think they were frash made; they looked similar to other restaurants generic chocolate chip cookies. They were a nice addition to the lunch, though. They also provided sweet and unsweet tea in gallon jugs. read more
Recently had Tasty Town as a catered lunch for a sporting event. Our lunch was a chicken pita (wrapped like taco of sorts) and I got roasted potatoes as my side. They also brought a large side box of chocolate chip cookies that were individually wrapped. Everyone loved the wraps, though the fresh onions were a little rough on some of us. Others took heed and removed a couple so their afternoon running up and down the field wasn't filled with regret. The potatoes were a hit; wish I could get them again. read more

Have come here several times! It's a seemingly odd location for a restaurant, but the food is pretty solidly delicious. It is essentially an elevated Taziki's I came most recently and sat on the patio outside, which can definitely get pretty loud with cars driving by, but has a great view of Railroad Park. Service has always been good. I love to treat the menu like tapas and share apps and entrees with the table. I most recently had the meatballs, which were really good. The beans are fantasitc too. read more

We tried the hummus and tzatziki appetizers as well as the braised lamb pitas and then topped it off with a trio of desserts. we also tried the spanakopita and it did not disappoint! The pitas were soft and warm, the hummus was topped with roasted chickpeas and I have never had a more decadent slice of chocolate cake that tasted like someone's grandma made it from scratch! Service was stellar, from the hostess to the management and it was pristinely clean. Great vibe and the best Greek food I have had in the southeast! I grew up in an area with a large Greek community and I finally found someplace that can complete with what I grew up eating. read more
Oh Yelp! It's Christmas Eve! We are a party of 9 coworkers and family meeting for lunch. There are a lot of newbies in our group, but Tasty town does not disappoint. For starters we got all the appetizers, meatballs, spanakopita, zucchini fritters, humus and baba ganoush with veggies and warm pita!!! Delicious! Everybody is raving. All this stuff good. I got your veggie plate with greens, spinach and rice, green beans and Greek fries. I didn't like the green beans in tomato sauce. I traded them for the lemon potatoes. So good. Two people got catfish, 5 people got Greek chicken and one person got veggie pita. Everything was fresh and good. Thanks to Tiffany for her wonderful service. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Thanks TT! read more
We've had this place on our radar for a while now, but haven't made it over here to give it a try until last night. We walked in and were immediately greeted. After being seated, we decided to get the zucchini fritters for an appetizer. They came out with a tahini butter and had a honey dripping on them and were very good. For our food, I got the half chicken with the lemon potatoes and their take on mac and cheese. The chicken was delicious, as were the potatoes. Their mac and cheese was decent, but I wasn't wild about it. My wife liked her meal as well - the lamb sandwich. They have many other meals on their menu that I'd like to try, so I hope we get to come back soon. read more

I have tried tasty town on several occasions now. It is very close to my job so I pop in for lunch on my break or to grab dinner on my way home. During lunch hour the restaurant is sometimes busy but for super fast service I sit at the bar. I always see new people in there when I go. I'm predicting that staff turn over isn't that great. New bartenders and servers always. I've only tried a few things off the menu. The side salads are super good and flavorful, I tried the 1/2 baked chicken but didn't realize it was chicken on the bone, the fried and sautéed shrimp is good as well. Not sure about authenticity but I like it! read more

This really lived up to the hype for me! The grilled chicken pita was SO delicious. Chicken tasted chargrilled, pita was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside - better than usual pita. You can tell it's homemade. The olive oil they drizzled on it added such a great flavor too. The orzo mac n cheese is what caught my eye the most (as I was deciding what to get before I got there - as always). I'm a mac n cheese lover through and through but never had it with orzo and it is life changing. (13.5) @madi got the roasted gulf snapper and said it was good but isn't dying to get again. As one of the most expensive things on the menu, I imagine this needs more of a wow factor. (36.5) We got chocolate cake (8.5) and Loukoumades (Greek doughnuts) (7.5) and wish we would've just stuck to the chocolate cake. The doughnuts lacked flavor. Service was friendly but we did have to ask for refills several times. She reviewed how we wanted checks to be split, went and got the checks, and they were still wrong. We'd give it another try for sure! read more

Modern Greek is the vibe. Food is good. Prices are average. Staff is on point pleasant experience. read more
Very disappointed they changed the recipe of the Greek potatoes which I go around telling everyone they're the best potatoes I've had in my life I ordered two sides of it Tuesday and unfortunately they weren't at all like I remembered What I had last time was light and tender with a cream sauce What I got this go were over done too lemony and greasy Overall this is a great establishment that needs to work on consistency Maybe the potatoes got reheated too many times read more
Found this gem on Yelp and it did not disappoint. The flavor of the food was amazing. Let me start by sharing the previous night I had Taziki's and the chicken wasn't good- in fact, it was rubbery. Tasty Town owns up to its name. The chicken was "Tasty". I literally could taste the grill flavor. The fries were surprisingly great and didn't require ketchup. Lastly, the freaking chocolate cake was sooo moist and fresh. I couldn't eat all of it in one setting. I appreciate the friendliness of this place and the freshness the food offered. I'll keep this place in mind if I ever have an opportunity to visit downtown again. read more
So yeah , Tasty Town delivered!! I simply stopped by to get a slice of chocolate cake to go. When I entered, I instantly fell in love with the ambiance! Heck. I didn't want to leave! The staff assisted me quickly. Almost too quick. I was trying to take it all in. Yall! The chocolate cake is amazing!!! Soooooooo moist and soooooooooo wonderfully made! The slice is very generous and well worth the $8+. Go get you some PRONTO! All I can say is, put this spot on your list. I can't wait to return for lunch.... Their food menu looks stellar! Stay tuned....... read more
Retro yet modern atmosphere with attentive staff. The meatball pita with tomato chutney and yogurt was delicious and unique. The chargrilled eggplant spread was also delicious, and the pomegranate added amazing flavor. Had the loukoumades for dessert, which were fluffy, warm and very filling. read more

Food was pretty tasty! Went with the Greek chicken on my visit paired with salad and yummy lemon drenched potatoes. For the price, I've tasted better, but this restaurant makes up for it with the glorious inside design, quality food service and lovely outdoor patio and their Instagramable seating. Some of the passerby traffic and balcony action from the Lumen residents up above is a little questionable considering all eyes are on Birmingham's giant backyard public space Railroad Park, but that's no real fault to them. read more
My first visit and I was excited since I'd heard rave reviews. I came Saturday for lunch with the fam. The place is large but quaint. I really like the decor and the ambiance. They have a really nice lounge section that is just cute! The menu has lots of options, especially traditional Greek dishes. In order to avoid overwhelment... I stuck with the lunch menu. We started with classic and eggplant hummus. I like hummus but this was soooo good. Especially the classic topped with crisp chickpeas. And that super soft fluffy yummy pita bread is mind-blowing. Most of my table got fried catfish with various sides. I went with the 1/4 Greek chicken with the village salad and fries. The chicken was so moist. I'm always leary of breast because they can be dry and flavorless, but this was good. It was topped with like a very lemon-y butter sauce. The fries were fine and the salad was more like a summer salad, no lettuce which was not what I expected. I heard the catfish was good and I tasted the lemon potatoes (yummy but toooo much lemon butter) and I thought the Spinach rice was yummy but different. Service was ok. Nothing grand but not bad. Overall, I'd surely return. If love to try a cocktail next time and give some other menu outings a try. read more
