Oh wow! So glad to have this establishment! I don't like what the "national bowl restaurant" supports so not giving them my money! This place is better, food looks fresh, they refill the line often so everything looks and tastes better. For the price I was extremely happy with the freshly made bowl I ordered. My items weren't plopped halfheartedly by a bored teenager. My guac completely filled my cup. (Compared to the other place). The staff was friendly and the facilities are clean. I understand their policy that delayed getting inside the bathroom. The area is full of unfortunate unhomed individuals. Therefore, to maintain a clean and healthy environment for customers, it has to be locked. I'm cautious about parking downtown, but I lucked up on a space right in front. Therefore, I didn't have to use their parking lot that's nearby. I was so happy with my first impulse visit, I will certainly return when I have time to review my options more. Sorry was in hurry forgot to take pictures and check in! No cooked many hours ago dried out chicken chunks here. Beans didn't look like brown glue either. read more

Saw this place on TikTok and decided to try it. Street parking is available but was very difficult to find an available parking spot. The staff were friendly and patient while we decided on our order. I ordered the 2 meat platter with chicken and steak, you can select the toppings that you want. The food was pretty good and I love the sauce. read more

Nice Mediterranean plus dinner. In chose the lamb roll with everything on it. The server was stellar and made both dishes from scratch. The place is downtown with lots of sunlight and view of downtown traffic and walkers. The food was awesome and enough for at least two meals. I do recommend this place read more

I wanted to try something new over lunch, so I popped into Ahki's. It bills itself as serving "New York street food." Upon considering the menu, it's definitely middle eastern cuisine with falafel, gyros, pitas and the like. I ordered the Falafel Plate and a Diet Coke. Beautifully tender and deliciously flavorful saffron rice nestled alongside a crisp, fresh salad of iceberg, onions, tomatoes, black olives and pepperoncini forms the base of the dish. Three massive falafel were on top, drizzled with a delicious ranch sauce. Everything was absolutely delicious! A whole round of super soft pita, a side of hummus and ranch dressing were included in the bag. Everything was so good! I'll definitely be back! read more

Ahkis is the truth! If you're looking for authentic NY style Mediterranean food look no further. The owner is helpful on how to order, and is one of the friendliest people. The food was delicious, and it was a lot of food for the price you pay. Make sure to get lots of sauce and if you can handle it, the spicy sauce packs a punch adding another depth of flavor to what you're ordering read more

Ahkis - 1 Small Single Meat Platter - Mediterranean Near Me - Birmingham, Alabama

suggested by a friend I tried Ahkis: If you haven't been to Ahkis yet, stop what you're doing and go. This spot is serving up Mediterranean street food with a bold New York edge, and it's seriously next level. I ordered the Ahki Burrito with lamb, "all the way," and added their signature spicy sauce--and wow. First off, the basmati rice inside is beautifully aromatic and perfectly cooked, acting as the perfect base to soak up all the flavor. The lamb? Juicy, tender, and full of that deep, spiced richness you want in a Mediterranean protein. The toppings bring serious freshness and texture--crisp veggies, creamy sauces, and tangy notes that cut through the richness in all the right ways. And the spicy sauce? Absolute magic. It's got a real kick but it's layered with smoky, savory heat that ties everything together. You feel it, but it doesn't overpower--it elevates. The balance in this burrito is kind of wild. Every bite hits different, but it's all cohesive. It's street food, but thoughtfully crafted. Comforting, yet bold. You can tell this isn't just fast food--it's passion wrapped in foil. Can't wait to go back and try more. The flavor game here is strong. read more

It is a small restaurant downtown. Customer service is good and quick. The food is good and the portions are just right. Worth a visit.

I've gone by twice in two weeks and they're closed. The sign says to check their social media, but Facebook was last updated in February. It's a good walk, very disappointed in the communication. read more

Tried this New York Style Street food spot and it was really good! They are located 20th street downtown which I was glad for another restaurant in this area. Of course you deal with parking downtown but I got lucky with a spot. Upon arrival it's an outside eating area which is always a plus. The food is served buffet style. I selected the platter with chicken. You have a choice of chicken, steak or lamb. Also your pick of salad items. The lady showed me the regular or large selection of platter but I didn't see the price difference listed so I went with regular. They had can or bottle drinks available. This food looks and taste amazing. The food was fresh and well seasoned. Can't wait to go back! read more

Recently moved down from Philly and was nostalgic for a gyro wrap. This hit the spot. Quick service from a friendly face. Portion sizes were good and the environment was as advertised. The lamb roll up I tried had a good amount of lamb with fresh veggies and a good amount of white sauce. I'll have to come back and try a platter. read more

The Best!!! Bham's first (to my knowledge) New York style Mediterranean food....Man it was sooo good! It was extremely slow when I came in for lunch & the young lady serving me was so kind & very friendly I ordered the combo platter you can choose two proteins so I got steak & lamb both were fork tender next you add whatever toppings you like & they cover it in a white sauce (other sauces are available all housemade) I can't describe the taste you'd have to try it yourself they offer other menu items so I'll definitely be back you get a lot of good & it's worth every penny they also stay open later on the weekend like 2ish! I'm old so I won't be out that late but it's good to know! IF you love Mediterranean food I highly recommend this spot read more

I've been meaning to try this place for months. I'm vegetarian and sometimes it's hard to find places around town. I shouldn't have waited. The service was fast and friendly. The food was delicious! I had the falafel plate and it didn't disappoint - rice, salad (you pick what goes in), falafel, and pita on the side. I think I've found my new falafel lunch place. I will definitely visit again. If I could make one suggestion to the owner - add some sauteed mushrooms to the menu as toppings or that could be used in veggie pita sandwich. Otherwise I couldn't have been more happy with my dining experience. read more

I came across this place while downtown Birmingham. Once I found parking I was able to enter this nice place. Once entering the set up is very nice and clean in the inside. Places to sit and eat. There were two ladies behind the counter who were very nice and helpful with the menu. I ended up getting the two meat platter with lamb and chicken. It came with pita bread as well. The food was really good. For it to be Mediterranean with a twist of New York style I must say it was tasty. If you are around town and want a taste for something different, I would recommend this spot. Very good. read more

Amazing staff, meh food. I really wish to enjoy the food but I simply could not. If you like overly seasoned, salty, and quick food- this place is it! That's not necessarily a bad thing but for the price I paid, I just expected something that could at least rival other restaurants in the price area and it could not. Again- it's not awful, just not worth the bad parking and price for me. read more

First: It was awesome how passionate these guys were about their food. When I asked about certain items, they explained each ingredient's role in the dish. Very cool experience! The food: For the amount of food, I would say the combo plate is fair priced. The food was good, but a little dry with all the rice! Definitely recommend getting a good dosage of their secret sauce! Cant wait to try their burrito next! read more

My 1st time and it was simply delicious. Quick service, Clean environment, humble professional workers, GREAT food!!!!

One of my favorite places. The large combination plate is enough for two. And the homemade hot sauce is delicious

I've been coming here since this place opened in September and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Staff are extremely respectful and understanding. Known them for a while and value customers immensely. The food is phenomenal and made every morning each day. Price is unbeatable, food is amazing, and as a student, extremely convenient. Easily a 10/10 read more

Been coming here since they opened. A1 service and food quality. Great staff and always a good experience

Their food is to rave for! I will be definitely coming back this week if I can get time cleared to go back there!!! I loved my first meal from them when I ordered a delivery from them to my home! The food is completely fresh and it's very cravious. I couldn't stop eating until I couldn't eat. Highly recommend them! I am not sure about ambiance or service because I haven't been to the place yet but their food is the best!!!! read more

I had the delicious falafel wrap. It hit the spot! Also very friendly people!! I will be back!

Makes me feel like family amazing food great service. My recommendation is the lamb platter best lamb in town. Vibes are amazing!

I passed by this restaurant while walking downtown. Initially, I went inside, browsed the menu and then walked out, thinking I would get tacos instead, but I later decided that I needed to try something new, so I went back. I tried the small platter with chicken, and it was really good. Yesterday, I decided to run by and grab a combo platter of chicken and steak for dinner and it was even better the 2nd time around. I believe the food would be tasty even without the secret sauce but that sauce really sets it off so I got a little extra this time. I have no notes about Ahkis. I love the food and the staff is amazing. Parking downtown can be a challenge, depending on the time of day but it's definitely worth it. read more

I really wanted this to be good but it was horrible. Food was cold, not fresh, and really expensive. Staff seemed really sad and bummed. They also said they only have bowls after 5pm which is not anywhere on their menu. Sad. read more
