This is my first time dining at Epice, and it certainly won't be my last! This charming, low-lit restaurant is the ideal spot for a date night or an elevated dinner. They also have a lunch menu that looks incredibly tasty; I'll have to come back just to hit up the lunch-only menu items. We started our evening sharing the Manoushi appetizer, which was a freshly baked Lebanese bread with cheese and za'atar seasoning. This dish was perfection! I would absolutely recommend an order for the table. I ordered the Sayadeya, which was grilled fish served with rice and grilled vegetables. The fish was cooked to perfection and was beautifully seasoned. My tablemates ordered the Tawook and the Za'atar Half Chicken. Had a great dinner here tonight! From the moment we arrived, everything was well done. Kristin was our server, and she was fantastic--knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. I'd definitely ask for her again. The cauliflower appetizer is an absolute must-order. It was amazing. The spinach fatayer was also very good, and the salad served before the entrée was spot on--fresh, flavorful, and a perfect start to the meal. For the entrées, the Lahm was excellent. The only dish that missed the mark for me was the Lamb Shank. It was cooked well, but everything on the plate had the same flavor profile, so it lacked contrast and didn't stand out the way I hoped. The décor is beautiful. Every design choice feels intentional, and even the music volume was perfect--it created a great atmosphere without overpowering conversation. The lamb shank with white bean cassoulet and herbs was a really dynamic dish. Tender and falling off the bone, the savory lamb was complemented nicely with the rich, stewed white beans and herbs. The one thing I needed was some type of grain like rice or couscous to go with all of this. Regardless, this dish seemed to be the strongest of the dinner items. Also, the appetizer of grape leaves was very fresh and flavorful. It wasn't a big deal, but it did take a little bit longer than we had anticipated for the food to come out. Maybe it was because of the lamb shank. My friend did not think too highly of the Sayadeya, so if you are not particularly drawn to fish, then I would recommend something else. I love Lapeer, so I was excited to try its neighbor, Epice. The space is beautiful, there's plenty of parking, and the servers were wonderful - friendly, attentive, and very helpful. That said, the experience was a bit mixed. I visited on a Saturday around 2 p.m., and there were only two other parties dining, so I was surprised that the table we were seated at wasn't clean. There was a hair, food crumbs, and noticeable water stains on the table. Given the slower pace and higher price point, I was expecting a bit more attention to detail. As for the food, I may be a tougher critic when it comes to Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine since I lived in Michigan and have traveled to Greece. The hummus was definitely the highlight. Super creamy, and the meat on top was perfectly seasoned. The salad dressings were also delicious. Everything else was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. Overall, we visited during brunch hours, and I personally didn't love the brunch menu. I'd still be open to trying their dinner menu in the future if I'm craving this type of food. read more

Came here for an early dinner after a show at the BJCC. We were seated promptly (we had a reservation) and our waiter was wonderfully attentive. Had a couple of excellent drinks along with the manoushi flatbread which was essentially a flatbread pizza with za'atar spices. Unbelievable. The rack of lamb was perfectly cooked and the lentil/rice combo was new to me and really complimented the dish. The lahm was flavorful and, though lamb meatballs can often be dry, these were very moist and perfectly cooked. Overall, it was a relaxing and very comfortable experience! We will definitely be back. Had a 5:00pm reservation on a Wednesday. We ended up switching to sit in the bar area, as the happy hour specials are ONLY available at the bar. This is a bummer sometimes but we got to keep our amazing server, Kaitlynn. OMG, she was outstanding the whole visit. Ask for her! Dinner started well with HH bites: whipped feta was lovely and liked the spicy kick added to their olives. Beautiful beautiful restaurant. Very contemporary. I went for lunch with my mother and ordered a few dishes to share. We got the Al Raheb, the epice salad, and the lahmajin. All of the dishes were carefully curated and executed with care. The eggplant dip was delicious and the lamb was succulent and flavorful. The epice salad was nice and fresh although I didn't find it as flavorful as the other two dishes. Service takes a while so if you're looking for a quick lunch you may want to reconsider, but we weren't in a rush so it was totally fine. I will definitely come back for dinner. What can I say about Epice... Epice, Epice, EPICE! I was truly impressed from the moment I walked in. The atmosphere is everything--cute, moody, sexy--with a cozy vibe, stylish decor, and comfortable seating that made me feel like I had stepped out of Birmingham entirely. It felt like a hidden gem tucked away in a much bigger city. We had reservations at the bar, and even there, the service was outstanding. Every interaction was warm and attentive without being overbearing. The General Manager even stopped by to check on us, which was a really nice touch. Now, the food--absolutely delicious. We shared the Hummus, Lahm, and Samak. Each dish was beautifully plated and full of bold, fresh flavors. We ended the meal with the olive oil cake and what I believe was a chocolate silk pie--both were the perfect sweet finish. Very tasty, large in size and had a vinaigrette after taste! The yogurt sauce was the perfect touch to the grape leaves. The hummus was okay. It needed some sea salt on top. Presentation again was great with the chips and veggies, but tasted like there was too much tahini sauce for the ratio of chick pea and EVOO? The homemade chips were great and salted perfectly for dipping. The falafel was good, but a touch dry for my taste. I thought it had great flavor, but needed more sauce to make up for the dryness. The sauce on the falafel was very tasty and presentation was great. This place is pricey with small plates. This is a nice upscale restaurant, so do expect you are paying for quality and not quantity. It's a great place to experience different culture and food which is something Birmingham needs. The Arnabeeet was also very good, the cauliflower was flavorful and the beet tahini was very good. The falafel was alright but not worth ordering. The orange blossom rose rice pudding was unique and delicious for dessert. Sadly, I felt the entrees to be lacking in flavor across the board, and I tried 4 entrees. Best baklava I've ever had. And the lamb meatballs were one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. So excited about this place!! The inside was very chic and minimal, lots of concrete and clean lines. The chairs SPIN! Cocktails were awesome and the food was all reasonably priced, too! You could definitely do date night for under $100 here. I'm a major fan of grape leaves and these ones were definitely fresher and less dense than what I find other places. Olive oil cake was stunning and not too sweet or dense, too. Service was awesome! You can tell that the people here really care about making this place great. That's all that matters at the end of the day! Next time I'm here, which will hopefully be very soon, I want to try the other lamb entree and run it back on that baklava. They offer 2 house made salad dressings; I didn't like either at all - super tangy. They did offer oil and lemon as an alternative. I wanted something light so the salad option was ideal. The atmosphere of this place was amazing. You can tell it's new and was so aesthetically pleasing. I had actually recognized my server as I met him through a mutual friend a few months ago. He did an amazing job and knew a lot about the menu. We started off with a few appetizers of hummus, veggies, pita bread and grape leaves. I have friends who are Lebanese so I will say the hummus and grape leaves were was a bit more toned down flavor wise compared to their cooking. I also got the beyrouti tacos that came with a side of salad and fries. I loved each of these. I had some tacos and fries leftover that they boxed up for me. A great addition to the Birmingham food scene. We were hanging out at the Bygones soft opening chatting with some folks when we caught wind that this place had opened. Naturally, we thought we'd walk over and take a look. The place was a little tricky to find. Despite that we were lucky to get in as the word is out on Epice. Who's kidding who here? With charm to spare I was a shoe-in to get seated. The decor is modern and slick in a recently renovated building. Thanks to whoever ponied up for the acoustic tiles. Seating was comfortably placed. I started with a martini and it was really good. Some sort of crazy olive I'd never had before. Have to investigate again. I know I should detail the food, but that will have to be another trip. Really have come to appreciate and enjoy this restaurant. It's got a very cozy comfortable atmosphere. The background music is very atypical Birmingham. Kind of club music. Really pretty cool and enjoyable. Service is great. We have had the same server 3 times...think her name is Grace... and she has been great. Friendly and on top of things and always a smile on her face. Food has been pretty spot on. Hummus is very creamy and delicious. Served with warm fresh pita as well as pita crisps and you can also get some veggies for $2 more. Definitely worth it. Every entree comes with a nice little fresh salad and the fish dish which has been barrimundi is served with rice and grilled veggies. Just perfect. It's not in the restaurant which is truly peculiar!! No its around the building and they share it with another restaurant. Ok and They were locked. What the tarnation and why??!!! So finally he told me the code was at the top ok. Now on to the waitress and food. Our waitress was friendly enough but She was socializing to presumably her friends who were dining beside us for the longest. We were ready for our ticket to pay. Onwards to the food everything was tasty For drinks We got a French 75, a Art Basil , a mediterranean martini, and The Butler Food: The Epice salad w/ Barramundi (mild fish) Arnabeet( cauliflower flash fried try it!) Spinach Fatayer, and Tawook For Dessert a chocolate torte and the Orange Blossom rice pudding w/ French press on the side. The menu during Lunch is *very limited* I will show a pic. Epice hits every single possible mark all around and even more. My Lebanese friend was ecstatic to hear that a Lebanese restaurant had opened up in downtown so we absolutely needed to go. The interior is just gorgeous - simple, modern, and chic. I didn't even feel like I was in Birmingham - it really was pure class. The owners and all of the staff were all extremely lovely. Greeted us kindly and tended to us so sweetly all throughout our stay even when it got a bit more busy towards the latter half of the evening. The food absolutely exceeded our expectations. We had a plate of hummus to share which was lovely and smooth as all good hummus should be. I opted for the grilled white fish and rice (sayadeya) and it was all cooked beautifully, seasoned perfectly. The portions were all much bigger than expected which was definitely appreciated. The olive oil cake had to be the star of the night, however. I really was not expecting much from it but it was divine - perfectly sweet and so unbelievably moist! Epice, which open its first location several ago in Nashville, is another great addition to the ever growing Birmingham food scene, situated along the Rotary Trail in the Hardwick Building directly across from Lapeer restaurant. There's complimentary valet or street parking, but you may have to circle a bit for that. There's a very nice atrium like area between the two restaurants with a good amount of comfortable seating before you enter the restaurant or if you need to wait on the rest of your party. Epice is a Lebanese bistro with a warm, inviting ambiance, a minimalistic decor and polished concrete floors. Typical of Lebanese cuisine, the food is fresh and vibrant with aromatic herbs, olive oil, lemon and a good amount of garlic. For starters we chose the traditional hummus with pita and the optional veggies plus the spinach fatayer, a savory pastry with lemon and sumac. We enjoyed two flavorful entrees... Tawook , which chicken taken of a skewer, with house potatoes, delicious toum, peppers and onions, and Sayadeya, an aromatic grilled fish on top of vermicelli rice with grilled vegetables. Both were beautifully plated and quite tasty. Everything was bursting with flavor! We ended with the moist lightly sweetened olive all cake with a blueberry compote. Service was also excellent with a knowledgeable server and the host was also particularly friendly. Overall, this was a very nice dining experience that checked all the important boxes. So refreshing to find amazing Lebanese food in Birmingham! I got the Tawook sandwich for lunch as takeout, and it was absolutely phenomenal. The side potatoes were incredibly flavorful and seriously addicting.
