I come to the Battery for lunch quite often, normally as a client with my coworkers. We are always taken care of there. They change the menu up from time to time which is nice because I like to try everything on the menu. Cannot go wrong with Mama's chicken, unless you have something to do that afternoon. The not good: the service. We had 2 servers on a Sunday afternoon. The first was very good. The second was non existent. The manager had to come take our orders and refill water. The menu has limited vegetarian options - extremely limited. I got the quesadilla and asked them to hold the meat. But it was insanely filled with cheese like to the point I thought I was going to choke on a blob of cheese. Just not a place to come if you're hungry and don't eat meat. I'd come back for a beer and to watch a game. But I wouldn't plan to eat here. A veggie burger option would go a long way here. read more

Very nice patio seating for friends or groups, with televisions for easy viewing of your favorite sports. This was a midday solo meal and cocktail. I was warmly greeted and seated right away. The restaurant was clean with a fully stocked bar. My order was taken and my drinks were brought out quickly. That's always a nice touch. I ordered the Blood orange margarita, which was really good. Went on a date here and had a great experience. We sat at the bar and Kaylee was an amazing bartender--very attentive and gave great menu suggestions. The ambiance was nice, super clean, and I loved the glass windows and heated outdoor patio. The Paloma and Blood Orange Margarita were both excellent (adding pineapple juice was a game changer!). This is a great spot. They have a nice patio but the inside is fairly open air as well if you don't want to sit outside. They were really busy bust service was fast and the food came out in an appropriate amount of time. We really enjoyed it food. It was Super Bowl Sunday and I decided to try a new restaurant. There was 7 of us ladies and it was the first time for everyone. I got there early so I could get a table. The host was quick to seat me. I started with a blood orange margarita. It was very tasty. Some of the ladies for old fashions that were smoking when they clacked to the table. I loved the presentation. I also had a glass of moscato. I started with the mozzarella sticks with vodka sauce. I found this to be unique because at other restaurants you get marina sauce. Some of the ladies got pimento cheese and brussels sprouts as appetizers. I ordered the grilled buffalo chicken sandwich. There was blue cheese crumbles on the sandwich which really elevated it to another level. He came with ranch, but I did ask for blue cheese dressing. The Parmesan fries were absolutely delicious. Anyway, I ordered the chicken quesadilla as my meal with the Parmesan fries and a side of Mac and cheese to try. He ordered the Philly, no garlic aioli. Our waitress seemed to have an issue that the appetizer was what I wanted as my meal. When I corrected her it was still brought out earlier than the other food. Not a deal breaker and not necessarily her fault. The other items were brought out a short time later. My quesadilla was very dry, despite adding the salsa and sour cream on top that it came with. The Mac and cheese was creamy and good for this type of setting and the star of the hour were the Parmesan fries. They were crunchy and hot when received. My guy said that he enjoyed his Philly and agreed that the fries were winners. For two of us, we spent around $60 with tip. This is a great spot to grab some food and watch sports. This is a great restaurant and we really enjoyed our meal here. We stopped in while traveling through Alabama and we sat outside, which was perfect on a nice day in May. We had a couple of nice drinks and got the roasted Brussels' sprouts for an appetizer, which were absolutely delicious. This past Saturday, I treated myself to a me date a day dedicated entirely to myself. After indulging in a relaxing one-hour massage, I found myself absolutely starving. Wanting to try something new, I continued my exploration of Homewood's restaurant scene and landed on The Battery. I met my aunt there for lunch, and as soon as we arrived, I knew we were in for a treat. The place was packed inside and out which is usually a great sign. After about a 15 minute wait, we were seated. The interior had a modern, inviting atmosphere, and the service was excellent. Our waiter was incredibly kind, answered all of my questions, and I never once had to ask for a refill. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was impressively quick, and every dish arrived hot. Appetizers Buffalo Wings - The wings were well-sauced and smoked to perfection, with the meat falling off the bone effortlessly. However, the biggest letdown was the lack of seasoning. While the smoky flavor was great, the wings themselves needed more depth. 7.9/10 (With proper seasoning, this would easily be in the high 8s or even a 9). Queso & Chips - The chips were fresh, crunchy, and unseasoned but still did the job. The queso had potential, but it lacked the bold flavors needed to truly stand out. It wasn't bad, but it could have been much better. 6/10 Entrées & Sides Wedge Salad - The salad itself was solid, but the bacon was a miss. It had an overpowering liquid smoke taste, leaving a strange aftertaste and smell. 7/10 Fries - These were outstanding hot, crispy, and well-seasoned. I also appreciated the variety of cuts and shapes. 8.5/10 Smash Burger - A well-executed smash burger with that signature crispy edge and juicy interior. However, the meat itself wasn't seasoned, which held it back from being exceptional. 8/10 Final Thoughts Overall, The Battery was a great experience, and I'd happily return. The biggest downside was the lack of seasoning across multiple dishes. If they improved that, their food would easily score even higher. That said, I still highly recommend trying this place. I've had the Korean bbq tacos and Philly cheesesteak -- both excellent. I love the prime rib shavings on the cheesesteak and nacho cheese drizzle. They really do it right and legit like they do in Philly. My parents love their smash burger and wife loves the club sandwich. But when I went back to dine in, I was disappointed to find those same favorites overcooked and lacking seasoning. I'm hoping it was just an off night since they were pretty busy. There isn't a whole lot of seating inside but there's a decent amount outside so if it's good weather you will probably be able to get a table either inside or out. We were served pretty quickly. Having never had poutine before I can't really compare it to anything. I thought it was pretty good but I don't think I would order it again. For my main course I got the orchard salad. I was happy to hear you could get small or large. And you can add a protein if you want. I added chicken. I just got the small one. It was a nice salad and with the chicken on it, it was plenty for me. I really enjoyed it. Hubby got the cheese steak which I tried. It was very good. Being from Philly I'm pretty judgy about my cheese steak but I would rank this one as my second favorite in the Birmingham area. My friend got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collards. Also she started the appetizer which gave us time to look over our menu. She gave some really good options. The Queso cheese was very good not too spicy but a good flavor. The Mojito was right on time for a Saturday afternoon. The bar did a wonderful job and making that drink that day now the Korean barbecue chicken an amazing taste love the flavor the Korean barbecue brisket. It had a little bit more of a hint of a spice heat kick to it. I like the flavor, but if you do not like heat stay away from the brisket. We had been to Alabama a couple times and have traversed the state and was happy to not only find the Battery, but most of all the restaurants in the Homewood area. Arrived after the lunch rush, was promptly seated, and served with beverages in quick order. The menu is really interesting with some items being out of scope of my food knowledge. We went with six of their wings with the Alabama sauce and a cheesesteak. The wings were flashed fried perfectly locking in the juiciness of the wings and their cheesesteak had a legit, super soft hoagie roll which could have come from Philly. I was very happy with my cocktail and it was perfectly refreshing. The pickle fries were good, and very unique to have in "fry" shape.
