I wasn't super impressed with the hot dog. The fries were good and hot. The Birmingham dog came with beef sauce, onions and kraut. I was expecting the beef sauce to be more saucy. It was more like seasoned ground beef on top. I felt like it needed a special sauce... or something. But overall I spent a total of $9... so, still worth the try. I grabbed some lunch at The Standard in the Pizitz Food Hall. I have eaten there before and have always found their service to be great! Not only does The Standard have a clean and friendly environment, but they also have great prices. They had a great hot dog selection even though they are known for their burgers. I opted for the "Plain Dog" which is exactly what it sounds like. They have a "Birmingham Dog" that is onions, sauerkraut, and beef sauce, but I like a good ole plain hotdog with ketchup. I typically order the patty melt from The Standard. They have one of best in the city and only have competition from the Waffle House after 3am after a night at the club. Today, I tried their chilli dog. I prefer mine with mustard, onions, and chili, of course. I think they use a beef hotdog, I should have asked but I don't care. Beef, pork or even turkey dogs are ok with me. They have a pretty good staff and although not overly friendly, they get your order right and do not make you feel like you're bothering them. The chili dog, like everything else I've gotten here was excellent. It was prepared fresh and serve with tater tots. I eat here on average once a month, and I have never had bad fries or tots here, never! I love the atmosphere of the Food Hall. It makes me feel like I'm in a "real city." This is just a little burger place n the Pizitz Food Hall. I have gone here several times. The concept is a fresh burger from fresh beef. It is done right in front of you. No frills just burgers, tots and fries. Normally that would be my review. However, it is time to give my impression. The food is good and pretty consistent. My issue is service or better stated service with a smile. Look, if a place really enjoys doing what they do it shows. The Piztitz food hall is such an amazing getaway located on the popular heart of Second Ave North here in Beautiful Birmingham!
