Came here after a last minute decision for dinner. I ordered the Lemon Ricotta Gnocchi which had great taste and flavor. At first is doesn't sound appealing, but was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately my friend ordered the Heirloom Tomato and Grilled Peach Salad that comes with goat cheese. Her luck, the waitress never placed the dressing on the side as she asked and the salad barely had any goat cheese(little to no goat cheese really). Once we wrapped up our meal my friend gave feedback to the waiter that the salad barely had goat cheese and felt it was a form of bad marketing that the salad comes with goat cheese when there is barely any is on the dish. They ended up giving her a To-go order of another salad with only 3 specks of goat cheese ( still barely any goat cheese). Not what was asked for nor did we wanted. Sad to say the salad went to the trash since it was drenched with dressing on top and no one wants salad again after their meal. I made reservations here for Valentines night for a family of 4 last night. My mom and friend arrived an hour early . My husband and I arrived on time. Once I arrived my mom stated you're not going to like what's on the menu. They only offered a Valentine's menu which was very limited entrees, had I known that while making the reservation I would've never booked the restaurant. She took our order and when my husband said well done on his sirloin she stated the chef will not cook the meat well done! only medium rare, or medium well! I immediately closed my menu and stated I can't eat here. A manager came out and stated the same thing! How dare you all tell people how to eat their meat that we have to pay for. The manager made an exception and gave us another menu because of the lack of communication and no one told us the menu was limited and your meat can't be cook well done! Ok! Cool we all order from this different menu meanwhile Husband and I go and take pictures maybe about 20 minutes later my mom comes out very upset and states a guy came out and said they are out of the food we order from the different menu! Yep just like that. I go back in and speak with the manager she stated yes they are out and that she was sorry and that we can order from the menu that was limited the Valentines menu and they can cook the sirloin to our liking now which was well done. My worst experience ever! We had to go and find another place to eat at. We ended up at a drive thru and ordered fried chicken because every restaurant we called was booked! An unexpected gem. We walked to this restaurant before a show at the Alabama Theatre. I have had several good experiences here but today was disappointing. I ordered the yard burger, and I was expecting a nice juicy burger with some flavor and flair. It was good beef, but that was all. They gave me a piece of beef with cheese in the bun. I asked the server and he said "oh let me go get you a fried egg to put on it." The whole experience lacked class. The server expected me to assemble my own burger when I'm paying $20 for it. He did take it back and make me a new one when I insisted. The second one came out a bit greasy, it had an egg and cheese on it but nothing else... the freshly fired chips had no salt. Does that sound delicious to anyone else? The other two people in my party said their food was ok. I will not think think of this location again as a good option for Saturday brunch. In fact, with such low standards of letting something leave the kitchen without all the ingredients listed on the menu, then the wait staff simply doesn't give a f*ck and they are probably high, why would I want to return here at all? This restaurant is located in the beautiful Elyton Hotel in downtown Birmingham. Parking can be difficult to find so be prepared to walk. The day we went we had a group of 12 after our son's college graduation. When we arrived the lady at the hostess desk seemed to not be able to find our reservation at first but luckily someone was able to help her. We were seated immediately. There was only one other party in the restaurant. One of the reasons that I am giving this place a three is because of the service. It was extremely slow and the servers kept forgetting certain items. We went for brunch and the prices were not bad. I have heard that they can be VERY expensive for dinner. We finally got to try out the yard for brunch and it is now one of my favorite brunch spots in Birmingham. It's located in the back of the Elyton hotel. It's a beautiful restaurant. We tried the fruit loop daiquiri for a drink and it was very unique and did in fact taste like a fruit loop cereal as well. For my entree I went with the chicken pimento biscuit and it's a very generous portion of food. It isn't that spicy either in case you are worried about it being too spicy. The biscuit was very fluffy as well. This place had a fantastic brunch and I will have to try it for dinner in the very near future. I stopped by to eat here again as I picked up a 20% off coupon. On the way in I had the honor of running into the executive chef and thanked her for the delicious food from my prior visits. I was given multiple menus and poured over them for a while before deciding on Steak & Greens for an entree and a Spring Smash cocktail. They were both incredibly delicious and I enjoyed every sip and bite. I went a bit all out and tried out panna cotta for the first time. Unsurprisingly, it was rich in flavor and melted in my mouth. I'll admit that service had been iffy the past few times I've visited, but this time it was courteous and speedy. I believe my server's name was Eric - he was patient while I looked over the menus, checked in with me multiple times, and ensured I had the best experience possible. I had failed to realize that the coupon I had excluded alcohol and I ended up spending a bit more than I expected, but I still thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at The Yard. I lived at Elyton hotel for a week with business trip and I booked the hotel with breakfast rate, pretty much I tried their breakfasts and dinner! For dinner, service is soooooooo slow, while dinner took 2 hours! And portion is very small! And the other restaurants in town offers better food than them for sure! And I tried their breakfast too, and wait is still forever! They take me seated, and I have waited for 35 min to get my breakfast dishes and this happened all the time(i tired their breakfasts for 4 days). Best recommendation is their mobile Bay omelette. We chose to come here for brunch on a Saturday when we were in the area, most other places were closed. The menu was fairly small, and had 6-7 options for entrees. I just wanted a salad so I got the omelette, it was okay. It was filled with a lot of goat cheese, and a lot of sun dried tomatoes, so those were the only flavors I tasted. We also got the parfait, that was enjoyable. The service was good at first, but then it took about 30 minutes after we finished eating to get the check. Okay where to begin? This is a hotel restaurant. I have never found a hotel restaurant that has quite lived up to its advertising, hype etc. Unfortunately this place was not an exception. We were in a large party of 12. We were seated at two round tables pushed together. We went for Saturday morning brunch. The menu had a broad selection of breakfast items that could satisfy a lot of pallets. I ordered the simple breakfast bacon eggs biscuit with gravy and hash browns. When my meal arrived the eggs were cooked over easy as ordered the bacon was evenly cooked and crisp the hash browns appeared more to be a cross between the hash browns I would usually get and a potato pancake. My biscuit was hard and dry around the edges and bottom and here was no gravy on my plate. After two requests of the waitress for the gravy I finally got some after about 15 minutes. I enjoyed the gravy however I like to put the gravy on a biscuit and eat it together. Having a biscuit which was hard and dry detracted from that enjoyment. The other breakfast items that were ordered around the table appeared to be quite good the chicken and waffles the breakfast skillet all looked appetizing. I was pleasantly surprised by their coffee it was bold and flavourful without the bitterness that I am accustomed to at most restaurants. My overall impression of the place was that they are on the right track but still seem to have a few bugs to work out. This is probably a place I would give a try again to see if they work out these issues. The food was priced a little on the high side but not prohibitively so. I generally like to visit a restaurant at least twice before I review it. Because you never know if you came on a good day or a bad day. It's a hotel restaurant and most people who eat here are staying at the hotel on a business trip and expensing the meal. I had the steak and it was nice size steak and it was cooked perfectly medium and it tasted good, but it wasn't $52 good for a steak. The dessert was a chocolate cheesecake, and it was $12. For $12 a slice, I was expecting at least as a big of a slice as I would get at Cheesecake Factory , but it was about half the size. We had reservations at 12:30. We arrived at 12:28 and by the time the server approached the table it was 12:40. At that time he told us the kitchen closes at 1pm so if we wanted food, we had to order at that time. Food was good not great. Avocado toast had a small spread of avocado on less than half the toast. Egg on burger over cooked and waffle was flavorless. Amount of food was good and traditional breakfast looked great. At 1:20, we cashed out with the server and about 10 minutes later with plates still on the table, they turned off the lights. Not some of the lights....ALL THE LIGHTS! I walked to the kitchen and hollered but no one was there. They literally left us in the dark restaurant with what appeared to be by ourselves. We walked out the front door (push bar so it locked when you left) and as we walked by we caught the bartender sound asleep on the coach in the lounge area. Why take reservations if they can't serve us that late? Why not say you need to leave instead of turning the lights out and abandoning us? Unreal! read more
