Harvest was one of the best dining experiences I had in Birmingham. One thing worth mentioning right away is that it's located inside the historic Redmont Hotel. That wasn't immediately obvious from many of the reviews I read beforehand, so don't let the hotel location deter you--this is a destination restaurant in its own right. I ordered the braised short rib (without the grits), and it was outstanding. The meat was incredibly tender, packed with flavor, and cooked to perfection. It easily ranks among the better short rib dishes I've had. The service was equally impressive. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and struck the perfect balance of being available without hovering. The dining room has an upscale yet comfortable atmosphere that makes it just as suitable for a business dinner as it is for a date night or special occasion. If you're visiting downtown Birmingham--or staying at the Redmont--don't overlook Harvest just because it's inside a hotel. It's proof that hotel restaurants can absolutely compete with the city's standalone dining scene. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Birmingham. read more

Hotel restaurants can be hit or miss. This one's a HIT. LOVED the beef short ribs, and the sweet potato puree. I swapped some collard greens for the green beans. Short ribs were expertly cooked with a light char on the outside and medium on the inside. Wonderful. Service is not the fastest so be aware of that, there's also not a ton of seating, so maybe call ahead during peak times. read more

Came here on Sunday morning. Really attentive and kind service. The place was pretty empty but we were up early. They ask about dietary restrictions which is nice. The eggs are very fluffy but I would have enjoyed them with some pepper or chives on top. The conecuh sausage is a go to so I was glad they offered them. The grits hit the spot, but the standout was the sourdough toast. I'm not sure where it was made but it was just the perfect piece of toast. Came here for lunch. I ordered a wrap with a salad on the side. The food was pretty good--no complaints. The portions aren't huge, I'm pretty sure I ate every bite of my meal and had a clean plate in the end. Been to Harvest Restaurant & Bar several times and each time was spectacular! I particularly enjoyed their brunch. Fourth Sunday brunch here is a thing and it's amazing!! You have to RSVP online for a spot but you pay once you get there. Valet parking and a complimentary glass of champagne or a mimosa was also included , if my memory serves me correctly. Warning , this review is way overdue , so some aspects of my experience may vary at this point. Okay, that was my disclaimer! The brunch is designed to be buffet style. It's on a much more classier scale. The spread is nicely set up and ranges from your choice of pastries, bagels, several breakfast meats, hashbrown casserole, oatmeal, omelets, cereals, fresh fruit , waffles, etc. The one downside was that the waffles were overcooked , so they weren't light and fluffy. Noone wants a hard waffle! The dining space isn't the biggest but you certainly don't feel like you're sitting on top of the other guests. You can have a conversation with your party without feeling like you have to yell. The atmosphere really sets the expectation for a good meal and a good time! That is exactly what you get here! HRB is attached to the ever so beautiful Redmont Hotel! A historic hotel in the heart of downtown Birmingham!!! All of the staff here are professional. The menu was very limited. I had the beef short ribs. They were good. My husband had the pappardelle pomodoro. The meatballs were cold. Hot pasta cold meatballs. Probably could have used another five minutes or so in the oven. Or at least timed better with the pasta. There were only 4 tables filled while we were there. Two were eating their food when we ordered. The other just seated. Ours was the only order in the kitchen. I went for dinner and cocktails twice and breakfast while staying at the Redmont. The food overall tastes fantastic. The portions are small but this isn't a 5 Guy's. The chocolate torte is absolutely fantastic. I was too excited to get a picture of the beef tartare before tearing into it. The service is solid overall and the staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The ambiance is upscale but chill. I can't comment on the food because I didn't have any. The host took me into an empty dining room and said most people are ordering breakfast in the coffee shop and taking it to go or eating in there. But you can eat in here if you want. Well, I can take a hint so I went to the coffee shop and got a coffee, prepackaged coffee cake and an apple. The clerk was bubbly and efficient. There was a long counter in the middle of the shop with stools around it, you could eat there maverick table style. It was fine for breakfast just not what I was expecting. read more

I usually am not the biggest fan of eating salads, but I have been enjoying them a lot recently. One of the places I decided to try was The Harvest in Birmingham, Al. I ordered the Kale Caesar Salad which was refreshing and had an amazing combination of flavors. The Kale blended in perfectly with the creamy and tangy taste of the dressing. The avocado added a smooth buttery texture complimenting the tomatoes along with a slight smoky flavor. Additionally, the croutons were golden, crunchy, and freshly made added a perfect crunch to the salad. To top it off the parmesan added a nice cheesy and salty finish bringing the whole salad together. The staff and service was amazing, with barely a waiting time. The Harvest is one of my favorite places to eat now and I highly recommend it. read more

Really disappointing. I went in a Tuesday night. There was only one other table besides my table. The waitress was really slow. She was slow on greeting me and getting my drink order-and I didn't get my drink for a long time. The food was meh at best. The fish was slightly overcooked and pretty flavorless. Food is good..we tried almost every appetizers and everyone in the party enjoyed them. Service was great. We had one person in the party who was vegan and the chef came out to offer some special choices which was nice. Ok started this review before the main dishes came..my son got the pork and did not like it so I switched with him and also did not think it was good. Fish was okay. It's in the bottom of the Redmont Hotel and is the actual hotel restaurant. So with that in mind it's obvious it's not ever going to earn 5 stars probably from any reviewer unless they're in love with the place. Food - it's basic American food from top to bottom with a little Southern flare on certain dishes. Brunch gets a little more adventurous but I wouldn't call it exotic or ethnic by any means. I've not had a bad meal here yet, I have had some that left a little to be desired from a taste perspective. Ambience - it is in a vintage recently-renovated, hotel lobby that's going for that artsy hip/trendy vibe. It has a great patio out front on the right side of the front entrance that is shaded for a good bit of the morning. Parking - street/valet all around. Lock your car! Pleasant atmosphere. Wait staff is personable and provides great service. I always had hot coffee in my cup. The food was good (I ordered the brioche french toast). The citrus marscapone spread was barely added and only enough for one slice of the french bread. The citrus marscapone was the primary reason I ordered and it was tasty, but it would have been helpful for a small cup of the marscapone or a little spread on each slice. The overall display/visual of the food was ok at best. I definitely think the restaurant could do a better job with the plating and providing adequate accompaniments. A solid Saturday breakfast! My brunch crew and I were interested in trying a new spot for our weekend mornings, so we went to Harvest, the restaurant at The Redmont Hotel. Parking is always interesting around The Redmont, and while valet parking is available, I prefer to park my own car. I found a street parking spot about a block away and walked to the restaurant. I wish there was convenient parking available, however, the situation is comparable to any other downtown restaurant. The restaurant is located to the right once you enter the doors of the Redmont. I was seated after a few minutes of arriving. It did not appear that the Redmont has a host available during breakfast hours (I arrived around 9:30), so once one of the servers was free, she seated me. Once I was seated, I felt service was timely and adequate. I was excited to see that the Redmont is now serving locally roasted Domestique coffee. Yum! My table ordered French toast (Conecuh sausage for me, bacon for my friend), and steak and eggs. We all cleaned our plates. It was delicious! For fun, we surveyed the breakfast buffet which was available, all you can eat, for $15. It looked good (there was a grits bar!), but I was in the mood to have my food prepared and brought to me. Bartender was friendly, access to the place is super easy, and I was able to get my order of Americanized poutine expeditiously. It was hearty and tasty for an affordable price. It is difficult to ruin a simple wedge salad, but the bacon toppings were mostly undercooked pork fat. I have certainly had better. Have been to harvest several times and have always had a pleasant experience when dining. The staff at redmont always get it right. Very accommodating and courteous. The food I have had here has always been delicious and without complaint from me. This visit I tried the harvest burger which was featured at the burger fest this past summer. Comes with pimento cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions and seasoned fries. Mmmmm mmmm it was good. One of my favorite burgers at the burger fest also which is why I came to try a full one. Cooked medium rare how I like my burger it was juicy and flavorful the pimento cheese adds a nice layer to it and of course the bacon makes anything better. They have some other burgers on the. Figured we try this for Sunday brunch. Now granted this was early and before the formal brunch began but the bottom line is this was like going to any Marriott hotel and ordering breakfast. A well prepare omelette but nothing out of the ordinary for $16. Honestly I could go to any of the good local breakfast places from Big Bad Breakfast to First Watch and have more creative and interesting breakfast for less. I have been to my share of Marriott properties over the years and this was nothing different. Not saying it was bad but expect more when you are charging the prices they are. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating with our seating and also offered to refrigerate our cake (and serve it after dinner). It was not crowded at all on a Tuesday which has me a little worried for a downtown hotel... We ordered drinks and they were strong, which is appreciated most of the time but on a Tuesday, let's turn it down a notch... our fried green tomatoes were good! Would probably order again. I also ordered the chipotle salad and I was a little disappointed on the smoky and spicy delivery. Lack of either left me wishing I had ordered the homemade pasta dish that the sous chef came out to recommend. I did try it from my friend and it was good! I'm always pleasantly surprised from a hotel restaurant in this price range seems to take food seriously, as is the case with Harvest. It was an unseasonably chilly night so instead of going out, co-workers and I decided to eat at Harvest. Nice modern decor and receptive service, but best of all, the food was actually quite good. The pork loin dish was especially memorable and my colleagues were more than satisfied with their dishes. Drink prices are definitely inflated. So yes, expect hotel pricing but as far as the food goes it wasn't bad at all. May get noisy depending on how busy the adjacent bar is in the lobby at night. read more

This restaurant is in the beautiful Redmont Hotel which originally opened in 1925. Some say it is haunted, the hotel not the restaurant, I guess you will have to see for yourself. The food was good but be prepared to pay I got the pork tenderloin with potato puree and brocollino. We also got the goat cheese crostini which was good but overpriced at $10 for 8. Afterwards we went to the rooftop bar which is in the old penthouse suite. Great view but busy when we went - a warm night in January everyone was taken advantage. We enjoyed a delightful brunch here today. Both dishes (avocado toast and steak and eggs) were tasty, fresh, and well prepared. Service was attentive and our waitress even gave our toddler son some complimentary fruit. For dessert we got the flourless chocolate torte and it was fantastic. My only grievance was the place was totally empty so it was not the bustling atmosphere we were hoping for. It might be because it is 4th of July weekend. I've been to Harvest plenty of times for Brunch but this was my first time to eat dinner there. Overall the food was delicious, as I've come to expect from Harvest. I had the Filet Mignon and it was cooked perfectly and was full of flavor. It is a smaller filet (probably 4oz) so I was still pretty hungry afterwards and ended up ordering the Brownie sunday for dessert. They also have a pretty nice wine selections. My only complaints is that the service was a little slow. There's also no need for a reservation unless you have a large group. I have been hearing about their brunch from fellow Yelpers for a little while now. So this past Sunday, we decided to do a somewhat later brunch at 1. Someone wrote a tip suggesting a reservation, so we got one. But it was not very crowded and we would have been fine without. We were greeted by a friendly face and seated immediately. This is also the first time coming to the Redmont since the renovation. I am so glad this historic gem has been given new life. We decided to get some mimosas and coffee to start. The mimosas were good (not a ton of OJ), but they were on the smaller side. Next time we might just get a bottle of sparkling and get some OJ on the side. The coffee comes in a French Press and they use Revelator. So you know that was good. Outstanding even. Our service was spotty and awkward at times. But overall nothing big to complain about. For an entree, I ordered the steak and eggs. The steak was cooked to my rare liking and had a great flavor to it. They use a filet cut, so it is a very rich, tasty piece of meat. I ordered my eggs over easy. Which one yolk came out the way I intended, but the other was a solid over medium leaning towards the hard side. Not sure how that was even possible. But with our late brunch time, the hunger took over the desire to get it cooked again. So a very minor error in an overall good experience. There are a few things I would change about our experience. But as I said, overall it was good. Minor things that will likely change from visit to visit. Another trip will definitely be in order. read more

Stellar! We stayed at the Redmont Hotel, a newly renovated Hilton Curio Hotel. It's totally decked out in Art Deco and pure class. I was waiting for my teenagers to finish doing makeup and went down to the bar. I was served immediately, and ordered the Ultimate Gulf Bloody Mary. I've never seen anything so sumptuous and scrumptious! Instead of the usual boring Bloody Mary ornamentation, such as a shriveled, pickled, slimy piece of okra, this Bloody Mary was fit to rule! It was adorned with grilled gulf shrimp, two huge crab claws, and ...big white chunks of lump crab meat! We decided to stay for lunch which was just as perfect. My daughter and I shared the shrimp eggs Benedict and the fresh carbonara. The pasta was freshly made and the sauce was so creamy with big chunks of thick bacon. We parked on the street but didn't really explore any other parking options. The staff was welcoming - we were greeted warmly. They asked us if we had reservations, but we did not - still, we were seated immediately. The ambience of Harvest is open, clean, & modern. I ordered the Brunch Carbonara, creamy tagliatelle pasta with a poached egg & prosciutto. It was divine and just the right amount of food! Service was great! Other dishes I was debating - the challah French toast & the Harvest burger. I'm overjoyed to see Birmingham's brunch options multiplying.
