This was the best food experience I have had in the Birmingham area. The waiter was courteous, fun and friendly. The started of with bread from the Birmingham Bread works with a goat cheese and butter spread, then came a amuse-bouche that was BLT, a cherry tomato with a basil cream, topped with a piece of ham and balsamic dressing. Follow by a sorbet mango and passion fruit with rum. I ordered the smoked grilled ribeye stake topped with a black garlic compound butter and veal sauce, with rosemary infused scallop potatoes, Brussels sprouts and to top it all off a passionfruit crème brûlée. Infinite amount of stars for the food but negative one star for how slow they are. So very hard to rate this place. So here is the downfall. It might have been the slowest dinner I ever had in my life. I had a 7:00 PM reservation and I arrived early and sat down at 6:50. After being greeted and ordering wine I placed an order of the pork belly appetizer at 7:05. The pork belly appetizer came out at 8:00, 55 minutes after ordering. I placed the entree order at 7:30 and it came out at 8:30. There were only 3 other tables in the restaurant. Two three tops and a two top so not even large tables. Why on earth is it taking an hour to get out an order. I have my credit card at 8:50 and got it back at 9:15. 25 minutes to charge a card? I mean I guess you can get busy but the 4 tables here had 3 people helping with them. At no point when the server came by my table did I ever say I needed another minute. So, a 2.5+ hour dinner as a single diner was ridiculous, especially considering they were not busy. The food here was truly incredible, some of the best I've had anywhere I've traveled. I absolutely loved it. You can tell they source fresh, local ingredients daily, and that commitment clearly shines through in the quality of every dish. I started with the pork belly appetizer, which was outstanding. The cut had the perfect balance of meat and fat, expertly cooked with the fat beautifully rendered. The flavors were exceptional as well, finished with a maple glaze and paired with a sweet potato cornbread that was completely unique and memorable. For my main course, I ordered the smoked ribeye, and it was flawless. The quality was top-tier, with gorgeous marbling that truly reflected a prime cut. The smoke flavor was perfectly balanced--present but never overpowering. It had a beautiful crust, was expertly seasoned, and cooked to an ideal temperature. It honestly could not have been better. They also offered a few amuse-bouches that were equally impressive. A single bite of cherry tomato with lamb bacon was one of the best bites I've ever had. To finish, I was served a watermelon and muscadine sorbet with a St-Germain finish, an incredibly thoughtful and skillful dessert. There is an immense amount of talent in this kitchen. You will never be disappointed by the food here. My experience seemed to be overshadowed by the slow service and near the end I was so ready to just leave. Wow. The smoked duck is so amazing that even though it seems like a waste to order the same thing as your ding companion, do it. I enjoyed my redfish and all the lovely locally- sourced vegetables but I was jealous of the duck my husband got, and the waiter said this basically happens to everyone The meal included an amuse bouche and a palate cleanser sorbet. What a nice surprise and it made the whole meal feel special Our friendly waiter recommended the peach cobbler for dessert. As someone who feels that fruit is more of a side dish than a dessert, I was pleasantly surprised by the AMAZING lance of flavors here. The food was good, not the best I've ever had, but not the worst. However, the restaurant was full of a party to the loudest white trash rednecks hooting and hollering and screaming at each other and management did nothing to quieten them. A certain arrogant sportscaster and his gang of drunken buddies treated the restaurant like a sports bar, interrupting the holiday meals of a number of large parties who knew how to behave. The management FINALLY closed the door, but it was after the other tables had finished their meals and been disrupted. Some people need home training. And every other table in the restaurant was upset and talking about the poor behavior of that group. We paid $500 for our meal and could have had a better experience at Hooters. Our second visit to Cafe DuPont was not as pleasant as the first. The food was excellent but the service was a bit of a letdown. There were not enough servers for the amount of customers. On a Saturday night you would think it would be "All hands on deck". But this wasn't the case. We had 6:15 reservations for four. Promptly seated, and we waited and waited for our server. Upon his arrival, he took drink orders and appetizer orders. Our appetizers arrived approximately 10 minutes before our wine. Each time he came by, he seemed in a rush to get to another table and he was. After dinner and dessert, we were left waiting for our bill and as we were, I noticed several other people waiting with a disappointing face. Beautiful traditional atmosphere with attentive and knowledgeable staff. This was also an incredible dining experience, complete with amuse bouche, a palate cleanser and end of meal chocolates. The foie gras was the best bite of the night, served on French toast with a berry gastrique, chutney and spiced pairs. The smoked ribeye was delicious and tender with a giant cap. You could really taste the smoky flavor, and it paired excellently with the Boursin potato gratin. The lamb chops were also tender and the veal reduction was delicious. Dinner last night, Tuesday 2/18/25. Menu changes daily. Recommendation from a friend who is local in Bham. Walking in the restaurant is quite quaint. A look and feel they nailed. The hostess was pleasant and directed us to our table, very soft spoken. The service is very good, after the host we were greeted by a gentleman who filled our water glasses and then our waiter arrived. After a short introduction, brief history of the place and menu we ordered a cocktail and placed our entree orders. I ordered the Old Fashioned, light on simple syrup, it was fantastic. For my meal I asked for help, should I go with the Flounder or Joyce Farms Chicken Breast? Without hesitation our server (Brandon I think) recommended the chicken. He also mentioned it has been highlighted as a "top 22 things to do in Birmingham". The dish was amazing! A plentiful lightly bread chicken breast. Buttermilk-fried, served over truffled creamed potatoes (melt in your mouth) with 3 or 4 large asparagus and lightly covered with a lemon beurre blanc sauce. But hopefully that improves. This is ur typical white table cloth restaurant but the food does NOT lack in creativity or flavor. What can I say, this restaurant is a staple in Birmingham for a reason! I cannot overstate the beauty of the facility, the niceness of the staff, and the elegance of the presentation! The charcuterie appetizer was very interesting, but some of the items on there were bizarrely tiny. I was really looking forward to tasting the foie gras, but the portion was literally a teaspoonful. Really, why bother? Yes, the charcuterie items were tasty, but the portions of some of the items were insulting. What was funny was, when the waiter was taking our order, he began with, "For a table of this caliber and class, I suggest the charcuterie..." which he pitched the exact same way to every table. This was almost like a bad prank. For the main course, my husband ordered the lamb chops with a leek bread pudding. Honestly, it was one of the best things either of us had ever eaten. Delightful. Unfortunately, I ordered the snapper, which was incredibly bland and served on a bed of cold farro salad. Even though the portion of snapper was very small, I didn't finish it because it was so bland. Don't get me started on the salad. That really should not have been a $48 entree. I would have sent it back if our waiter had stopped by again before it was time for the check. When I conveyed my disappointment over the fish, he said, "You should have let me know!" And that was it. Yes, I would have let him know and sent it back and ordered something else if we had seen him again! So, we spent over $200 and left hungry. That's not a high-caliber experience in my opinion. And, honestly, we will not return. read more

Great dinner at Cafe DuPont last weekend. Started with the cheese charcuterie board, nice! My wife had the snapper and I agree with her outstanding. She let me have a bite! I had the scallops and they were cooked to perfection. Service was as expected, very knowledgeable and very attentive, always seemed to appear out of nowhere. The only thing I would like to see improved is the on line reservation system. We could not get a reservation after 5:45 there were numerous tables open until after 7. No big deal, I was just going to call back in a few....but someone actually called me back right away even though I didn't leave a message! She took my order, repeated it back to me to confirm accuracy, and told me it would be ready in 15 minutes. That's fast, especially consider it was smack in the middle of dinner time! Got there in 10 minutes, paid, and my food was ready when they said....hot and fresh! Took the food and opened them up for our car date (lots of those these days for us due to the pandemic). My husband and me went on February 13th to eat before Valentine's Day and we valet parked. The valet stole 2 golf clubs out of our car. I called to talk to a manager and gave my number. This is the best French restaurant in this state. I would recommend everything here but the beignets are amazing.

The ambiance was certainly upscale, and the server was exceptional. All the food we ordered was very tasty, especially the short ribs. The scallops almost melted in your mouth and the fried chicken was exceptional. The only downside is that we waited quite some time for coffee after the meal so our desserts came out first and even then the coffee must've been allowed to brew for a bit too long because it was a bitter. What are phenomenal experience! Between the valet, parking, the coat check immediately when you walk in, and the kind servers, this place was great. The servers were all wearing professional clothing with white aprons, were so attentive and respectful- they made the dinner truly an "experience." I got the fish and my partner got the veal & we were both extremely happy with our choices. The veal is probably one of the best I've ever tasted, with so much flavor. It was tender, well marinated, and served with flavorful veggies on a warm plates. The fish was so chewy and full of flavor- nothing like I had ever had before.
