We originally heard about Dyron's from TikTok and several people ranking restaurants and it being in most of all of their top 3 spots. We started with the biscuits with whipped fig butter ($8) and they were good. We also got the crab claws and I enjoyed the cornmeal breading and homemade cocktail sauce. ($26) I got the Greg Abrams red snapper with cheese grits and green beans. This was good and the fish was flavorful but I couldn't get past the dryness of it. I enjoy a flaky, moist fish - not one that I have to saw into. ($46) David got the gulf flounder and jumbo lump crab. He enjoyed but said there could've been more of it. ($51) It was very crowded and I absolutely would not try it without a reservation. They obviously do something right. It feels like Mountain Brook locals absolutely love it and it's probably a weekly spot for them - just the vibe I got. It's casual but you could dress up and fit in too. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. Parking was horrendous - as it's downtown Mtn Brook. We circled around several painfully narrow streets before finding a spot. But didn't have to pay for parking so that was a plus I guess. We would go again if someone else wanted to but not on our own regard. read more

This place has nice ambience. Liked it from entrance. The room and tables are really nice. There was a separate room for group events which looked nice. This restaurant is upscale. We were greeted on entry and the waiter that attended to us was first class. I ordered the pork chop and I am glad that I did. The sides were great. Not just saying that. The cream corn was smooth. The broccoli was definitely tasty. The pork chop was moist and had a perfect crust on it. Seriously, I would put that chop up against and pork chop I had every had, close to mine lol. We sat by the fireplace, it was very nice. We ordered the quail appetizer - I have never had quail, but it was good! For entrees, I got the Red Snapper with corn grits, green beans, and topped with crawfish tails. It was amazing! The top was a little crispy; it was cooked perfectly. The corn grits and green beans were delicious. He got the Beef Tenderloin with potatoes, asparagus and mushrooms. He ordered it medium rare and it was excellent. Our waiter, Phillip, gave great recommendations and was very attentive and helpful. We finished it off with the bread pudding with caramel & chocolate with strawberries - absolutely amazing. All I can say is the gumbo. Wow!! Having lived in New Orleans back in the day I know my gumbo and I have to say this is up there at the top. The roux is so rich and delicious and stocked full of delicious seafood. Huge shrimps and oysters. It is really a must if you go here. They serve a nice basket of biscuits and jalapeño cornbread which was nice and warm. I also had the steak tartare which was a chopped meat version served with toast points and a small arugula salad with some Parmesan. The tartare was well spiced and flavored. I prefer my tartare with the thin slices of beef but this was a very good version of the chopped style. Only somewhat negative comment is it is pricey and not sure the food justifies the expense. Most entrees were over $30 which is at the top of the B'ham market. The service was good although I felt at times our server was hovering and trying to rush us along. All and all a very good dining experience but be prepared for the prices. read more

My first dine in experience since the shelter in place restrictions were lifted... really appreciate the precautions they took. This was also my first time visiting. I really like the atmosphere, just seems really chill and not pretentious, but great food. Pleb warning: it's a bit pricy. But totally worth it. First off, the service was great. Everyone was so friendly and attentive. Second, the biscuits. the jalapeño cornbread was also interesting but not as good as the biscuits. We got the red snapper and beef tenderloin. The cheese grits that accompanied the red snapper were some of the best I've ever had. The steak was a little salty for me, but very juicy and tender. 50/50 We had two appetizers: the baked oysters were phenomenal, very well prepared with clean flavors and well cleaned, not soupy like some places, absolutely delicious. The fried crab claws were a little underwhelming, the batter was so thick you couldn't taste the crab but not bad. Half our party got the red snapper, the other half got the short rib. The snapper was dry and a little too overcooked. The short ribs were good. Got beignets for dessert and they were more like small fried gnocchi than the typical fluffy beignets. Coffee was good and the service was friendly. All in all not a horrible experience but I expected more for the price tag. read more

Low country cuisine in the heart of Crestline. Bend a perceptive ear towards the other tables, and you'll hear about all the goings-on at the club, not to mention hushed speculation about who is cavorting with the tennis pro at the Motel Birmingham in Irondale. Speaking of tables, Dyron's is divided into two separate dining areas. Enter the front and you are in the area reserved for blue bloods with all the attendant panache. Upon entering, you will be inspected for Brooks Brothers clothing. The hostess will frog-march those who don't pass muster off to ghetto on the right, where one either eats at a picnic table or a 70s dinette set evidently picked up at Big Lots during clearance. I mean, these tables are tiny. As in the-bread-tray-couldn't-fit-on-the-table-along-with-our-plates kind of tiny. This area does have a nice fireplace, so there's that. But seated in the Dyron's ghetto, I couldn't help being reminded of family Easter dinners of yore when my 22-year-old self was consigned to the card table in the back with seven-year old cousins who made fart jokes continuously. Service is kind of an interesting mix. The person who filled our water glasses proceeded to miss a glass and soak the butcher paper table cloth. Instead of moving us to another Big Lots table, she instead just blotted up the water with a towel and folded over the paper. On the other hand, our waiter was a cheerful guy who took orders with aplomb and gave spot-on suggestions. Food was awfully good. My martini was made with élan. I had gumbo for an appetizer, venison for the entree and beignets for dessert. My wife had the trout. No complaints there. Not quite Highlands level, but good enough for a Friday night with friends. So four stars for the grub and a star deducted for being seated in the Dyrons ghetto. Fix up that area and I'd add a star on my next visit. read more

My wife and I attended Dryons Low Country on a Friday night for our anniversary, it was excellent! I am so glad I came across this place, not the easiest to find and a very local feel make it feel like a real gem. Upon arrival my wife and I were promptly seated and provided some waters and offered drinks. To start I had a red hills Pilsner on draft, very good to see local redirects supporting local brewery's, my wife started with a extra dirty martini which hit the spot. We started with some baked oysters and breads which were so good. Especially the oysters we could have had two servings! The menu here changes everyday based on what is fresh and on hand so you are guaranteed top notch fare. For mains I had veal tenderloin so full of flavor that you were disappointed when it was gone. My wife had the snapper which she gave 5 stars. We spilt a bottle of Cabernet which paired nicely with both meals. We got a piece of cheesecake for dessert which was so morish that we ended up with 2 paired with two hot mugs of coffee with Godiva chocolate liquor topped off with a swirl of cream. This was the perfect way to round out the night. Aside from the food the service was impeccable and I couldn't be happier with the experience on a special night for my wife and I. This was our first visit. This place had a very nice ambiance. Our waitress Carrier was awesome. She made some great recommendations for our meal. I had the pheasant and my wife had the pork porterhouse. Our meal took a little long but our waitress brought us a delicious wedge salad with buttermilk dressing. That was by far one of the best salads we ever had. Our dinner came and WOW. The pheasant with freshly made pasta was out of this world. I also tried the porterhouse and it was just as tasty and so tender. We then topped it off with the bread pudding. Crunchy on the outside and smooth and creamy on the inside. Typically I don't order fried chicken that often, but it was really, really good. The biscuits were tasty and the beignets were tasty as well. All I can say is wow. I have been dying to come try Dyron's for brunch for years now. For one reason or another, this was never the spot selected for our brunch destination. But with my first father's day falling this past weekend, it was entirely my choice. I chose Dyron's, and I'm so glad that I did. Let me start by saying that the person taking my reservation was so nice. I went ahead and warned that we would have two baby carriers in-tow. And when we showed up, the hostess knew exactly who we were and had the perfect space for us. Great start Dyron's staff. It was pretty obvious that all the families with kids were seated on the enclosed porch. But all the kids were well behaved, the temperature was not bad out there at all, and I guess I have to accept the fact that we are "those people" who bring their kids out places. But hey, I'm not going to miss out on great dining experiences just because I have offspring! The only downfall I will say is that the mimosas were a bit on the steep side. Just under $10 per. Just a handful of those really hiked up the bill. But my satisfaction after the meal made that sting a whole lot less. I went with the crabmeat omelet. Perfectly cooked, fluffy eggs with a ton of crabmeat in it. And you can't go wrong with McEwen and Sons Grits. I had a very tough choice after reading through the menu. And since it was all family at the table, I had no shame expressing my desire to try other dishes. After going with the omelet, I was very pleased with my choice. But I was still jealous of other dishes at the table. My wife got the red snapper with a crawfish sauce on top that was absolutely delicious. A tad on the small side, but tasty none-the-less. My mom got the fried chicken. Which, full disclosure, would have been my first choice had she not selected it already. My first bite of that chicken made me want to barter for more! It was some of the most moist, flavorful boneless chicken I have ever eaten. And although my omelet was exceptional, it is hard not to regret missing out on items that fall in the rare "best" category. Topping it with Conecuh gravy and peas (favorite brand of smoked sausage and favorite type of vegetable) made this dish a must have for my next trip.
