I'm sharing this experience so that future brides and event hosts can make an informed decision when choosing a caterer. We hired Kats Kreations in April 2025 for our May 16, 2026 wedding. Our wedding was Princess and the Frog themed, and we specifically wanted unique menu items, including smoked alligator and frog legs. After discussing our vision with the owner, Katrice ("Kat"), she assured us she could provide everything we requested, so we signed a contract. On May 2, Kat visited the venue and was provided with the necessary venue and coordinator information. Then, on May 14, she asked about arriving around noon on the wedding day to begin preparing for cocktail hour. I reminded her that cocktail hour was scheduled for 5:00 PM and dinner service for 6:00 PM, and she confirmed she would arrive accordingly. On the wedding day, I stopped by the kitchen around noon and noticed that most of the food preparation had not yet begun. Trusting that the caterer had properly planned her timeline, I focused on getting ready for the ceremony. Unfortunately, when cocktail hour began, none of the appetizers were available. Guests were left waiting while drinks were served, and my coordinator informed me that we would need to stall because the food was not ready. I was later told that communication with the catering team became difficult and that both my coordinator and members of my husband's family had to step in to address the situation. The situation only worsened during the reception. Dinner, which was scheduled to be served at 6:00 PM, was served over an hour late. By the time food was available, many guests had already left or were frustrated after waiting so long. To make matters worse, portions of the food were overcooked and burnt, which was extremely disappointing considering the amount of planning, trust, and money that had gone into the catering service. While I appreciate the effort that goes into catering a large event, the significant delays, lack of communication, and quality issues had a major impact on our wedding day and our guests' experience. The staff here are all so friendly! I loved this immediately about this place. I had the fried whitening (cooked to order) with cabbage and fried okra. FFF= fried fish Friday. I came up with this! The plate was plenty of food for two servings. Overall, this was a good plate. I was a little disappointed in the cabbage because it was just missing something. Katiynn's is located in the old Centerpoint elementary school, so there's definitely some old school , cafeteria nostalgia. I plan to return to try more of their menu. Pleased as punch. This is how I described my visit to Kat's Kreations tonight. I don't give 5 stars out that often. But when I do, it's well deserved. First off, I was pleasantly greeted as my date and I walked in the door by Mr. Nichols, one of the owners. We immediately saw on the door that they were closing at 7:00, not 8:00, as Yelp stated. The time we entered was about 6:30 PM. Most people would have gave us the side eye for walking in there 30 minutes prior to closing, but not here. They were happy to wait on us. We both ordered the grilled pork chops and Mac and cheese. I ordered the green beans; my date added stewed potatoes and yams. We both had cornbread and split the red velvet cake. Y'all....this was some of the best home cooking I've eaten in...a long time. Everything was seasoned to perfection. No need for salt here. The macaroni and cheese was creamy, with the browned cheese on top. Just like somebody's grandma makes. The grilled pork chops were juicy and flavorful AND tender. Lastly, my green beans were seasoned with just the right umph to make me want to know what they seasoned them with so I can use it at my house. My date raved the entire time about his meal. I couldn't rave about mine because I was too busy eating. Lol. Before leaving, we talked with the genius behind the scene, Mrs. Kat, the owner. They have been in the food industry many years and also cater. They are super sweet people who I really want to see do big things with this restaurant. I have been going here ever since they had their grand opening and been a regular ever since. The food is very affordable and you get served a good amount to boot. Not only that but the workers and owner are very genuine and very nice, they really make you feel like a family. The interior is a little small but you'll definitely want to take home and enjoy the meal they give you. While the food does look appetizing, it simply does not deliver in flavor. I was disappointed by the mac n cheese as it tasted like something was off about the cheese. It didn't taste like the soul food I'm used to. The beef tips and rice could've used more seasoning. However, I did enjoy the cornbread and green bean sides. read more

Its been a year since I last wrote a review from here that it was only fitting that I give an update on the restaurant. The restaurant and menu is still the same, but the only difference is that they added a breakfast menu which they're going to start serving up soon. My impression with the restaurant wasn't good because the moment I'd walk inside, I was hearing that sticky noise with every step. I order my usual which is meatloaf and fried okra and I wanted to try a different side item to change up my routine so I went with a side of cabbage. While waiting, I can see why it felt like something felt sticky because the floor looks like it hasn't been mop up in awhile. Normally, I wouldn't have to warm up my food since I get everything hot, but the meatloaf and cabbage was more of a lukewarm type and I stay less than two minutes from the restaurant. They got good food, I just hope there standard isn't dropping and that it was just an off day. read more

I really wish we could give 1/2 star ratings, because I would like to rate Kat's at 3.5 out of 5. We took a drive across town to try them out after reading great reviews about the food. (If I'm in the area, I would stop and eat here again, but it's not 30 min drive worthy for ME). After entering, we were greeted by the owners, whom were pleasant, engaging and very hospitable. After learning that we were first timers to the restaurant, the male owner welcomed us and thanked us for coming. He also made menu suggestions and raved about their lemon cake (I love sweets, so of course I purchased a slice). The food was good, although I was expecting it to be 'oh my goodness' great. Birmingham is my home and while visiting last weekend, I decided to try Kat's Kreations. I was excited because I'd heard my sister talk about this spot on more than one occasion. The restaurant is located off of CenterPoint Parkway next to Serra Cheverolet. There are a couple of other businesses in the small shopping center, so make sure you don't miss it. Let me start off with the food. The food was just 'good'. I ordered the chicken/dressing, mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. I also decided to try the peach cobbler. The food wasn't amazing, but I would go back for more. The mac and cheese is very cheesy and the chicken was seasoned very well. The sweet potatoes were perfect - not too sweet which is just how I like them. The peach cobbler was just meh. I was told the restaurant opened at 11:00 but the food wasn't ready for customers until 12:00. I was told the staff was running a bit behind (in my head: how in the world can you not have food prepared and you know customers will be waiting at your door at 11:00). This was a negative for me but after I tried the food, my nerves were calmed. The place is small and has about 6 tables. You can see directly into the kitchen which is a negative for me. My thought is cook the food, but I don't want to see how you do it. I decided to give Kat's three stars because of the lack of preparedness. I will try again when I'm in town. So glad to discover that this spot is in the area. It is much needed. I went in after church to pick up some food because I was not feeling cooking but wanted a good Sunday dinner. From the moment I walked in, the guy at the counter made me feel welcome and wanted to help me with the menu. He wasn't overbearing; actually pretty funny. I decided (finally) on the ox tails with rice and greens. Good selection. The meat was falling off the bone and they gave me plenty. My only complaint would be that I prefer a thicker sauce/gravy with my ox tails but they have more of a juice. They were tasty though and hit the spot. The star of my meal was the peach cobbler thanks to the guy that was at the counter. He said I would enjoy it and he was so right! I will definitely be back. I try to support new businesses but Kat's Kreations is an epic fail. About 2 months ago I went in to order 2 plates to go and a peach cobbler. The plates had collard greens, oxtails, chicken and dressing, green beans, pinto beans and cornbread. The peach cobbler had a jam texture and I wasn't even interested in trying it. The guy at the register made it seem like it was a must have. The veggies had a weird chemical taste, the chicken and dressing was gummy, the pinto beans were hard with no flavor and the oxtails, which is a higher priced item, was nothing but bones and fat with very little meat. I separated the bones in the pic so you can see what's left, It wasn't even edible. We took a loss on the meal because I didn't bother to take it back and I won't be going back to Kat's either. read more

We happened on this place on our way home to Texas. Everything was delicious. Soul food means fabulous southern cooking. I haven't tasted cornbread like that since my great grandmother died. It was the same recipe. The ham was glazed cut right from the bone. The beans had no salt but I didn't miss it. Everything was cooked from scratch. We are white and were welcomed with open arms from everyone involved. My husband is in a wheelchair and they went out of the way to assist him into the restroom. read more

My date birthday is coming on the month of Feb so I thought it be a great idea to have pre celebration dinner at a new restaurant. I couldn't figure out the new restuarant that was in Centerpoint area. I just broke out and just asked what restuarant you wanted to go in Centerpoint one day then she told me it's called Kats Kreation. I told her that where we're going today. We got there at 630 pm so called 30 mins before closing. My date is now fashionable late for dinner outing but unfortunately it was me that late getting home lol. Finally, we thought the closing time was 8pm but reality is 7pm. The restaurant doesn't look a original soul food. This restuarant has a whole lot of style and with a twist of grandmother pizazz. I had some tasty macaroni cheese that make you flip for joy. Baked pork chop is so succulent to the bone. Whole potato that could that will melt in your mouth and candy yams that make you clap someone else momma. This great soul food will be here for year to come on East side of Birmingham. The first time I tried the ox tails. I'm not a fan of thin cut oxtails, but even less of a fan of unseasoned oxtails. Nothing had flavor and I mean nothing. I ended throwing the plate away. The second time I tried chicken and dressing. I was able to eat the chicken, and that was it. The chicken was good, but nothing else. After I ate the chicken, I threw this plate away. There was a nice flow of customers, mostly ordering the fried meats. I wondered was this the way to go, but even then the sides were still below average. This is a small soul food restaurant with a very welcoming owner. There were probably 8 booths and Kat wanted to make sure you were happy with your food and drink. They have a menu and daily specials as well as items not on the menu that can be cooked such as chicken wings or fried chicken. I had beef tips over rice with fried green tomatoes and fried okra with cornbread and sweet tea. They do not make unsweetened tea. The portions were very large, the tomatoes were seasons perfectly. However the okra was very crispy and really didn't have much flavor. I tasted the crispy instead of the okra. I will definitely go back and try more variety of the soul food. My friend enjoyed black eyed peas and turnip greens and told me that they were delicious. read more
