Shout out to Luis and the staffs here! Amazing people, with great hospitality, thank you! The BBQ here.. oh lord.. the ribs were tender packed with flavor my favorite from this place, the brisket was more lean for me but didn't realize you have to request a certain cut for the brisket but Luis was the man! Fixed me right up on the brisket! Tender and juicy, chef's kiss, the wings were so good here as well, with the white sauce.. busssin, and you can't go wrong with $7 frozen/ reg margaritas! They were pretty strong for the price (that's a good thing), overall very wonderful experience here, would recommend and come back! Inside can get very busy, was really packed on Friday non stop but you'll be able to find a table, definitely was worth it, pretty chill inside, outside has patio seatings too, hope your food and experience was as good as mine! GET THAT WHITE SAUCE and extra bbq sauce!
Excellent brisket and Verde pork tacos. Add a side of slaw to put on your tacos. Delicious! Friendly staff. They all appear to enjoy what they are doing. This is an order at the counter, take a number and a seat and they bring it to you place. The BBQ sauce is very good. Pork and brisket were melt in your mouth tender.
Sooooo delicious!! We visit Birmingham and found this spot based off reviews and they didn't disappoint. All of the food was flavorful and tasted fresh. The service was actually really good as well and everyone there was super friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is very chill and little noisey but not in a bad way. All of the sides were good (Mac and cheese , baked beans), the meat was tender (brisket, chicken and turkey), and the banana pudding was fire too
This place has been popping up recently on my searches, so I had been wanting to try it out and finally got a chance to do so. I'm glad I did. The inside is definitely bigger than what you think it will be when you first see the location. The register was getting a little backed up, so they brought out someone with a tablet who helped form a second line and get the backlog cleared up quickly. Staff were friendly and checked on us often while we were eating, including bring an extra plate so we could share / sample the other's food. The poutine fries with brisket were really good. The buffalo wings had a good flavor without being overly hot, which I like. If I wanted 'hot' wings, I would order hot wings, not buffalo wings. Overall, really glad I came here and hope to come back soon and try more of their menu out.
Good smoked wings, that's all I've had. Wings were flavored nicely and very well cooked. Very very very pricey but I'd probably give them another go! I've been on a wing kick and someone recommended. 5 stars other than pricing! I would recommend a try to anyone who enjoys wings.
Some of the BEST barbeque I've had in a (queue the Linda Ronstadt) long, long time. Burning Tree Smokehouse does great lunch business. Every time I come in here for weekday lunch, it's nearly full. The wings are fantastic, my dad got them with buffalo sauce. They have a great fry on them. I'm not a big fry person, but these came out so fresh, hot, crisp, with that perfect Lawry's flavor. I am a major fan of the brisket and pulled pork tacos. These are a must-try for people looking for Not Your Mama's BBQ. The tortillas are perfectly season, warmed, and retain their integrity as you eat the taco. They could sell ten kinds of tacos and I would try them all... just saying. Fast-casual. Order at the front, sit down with a number, and they bring it out to you. I love it here. Street parking is generally really easy, although I imagine a handicap spot might be hard to find.
After taking in a little high culture at the Birmingham Museum of Art, I decided it was time to balance things out with some real Southern fine art--barbecue. So I pointed the truck toward Burning Tree Smokehouse, and let me tell you, this was my first visit, but it sure won't be my last. The moment I cracked the door, it looked like an ant farm had exploded--in the best way possible. People everywhere. The order line backed up to the door, an overflow line just as packed, folks weaving through the crowd holding drinks like they were carrying newborn babies. Wall-to-wall humans. That kind of chaos only means one thing in the South: this place is the real deal. Customer-to-employee ratio was about ten-to-one, and the joint was buzzing with life. Even on a cool February day, folks were camped outside just to get their BBQ fix. What I loved most was the mix of people--men in full suits standing right next to folks dressed like they just came in from cutting firewood. Burning Tree makes everybody feel at home, whether you're headed to a board meeting or just hungry on a Saturday afternoon. I snagged a seat in the back, and despite the crowd, my food hit the table in about 5-8 minutes flat. The staff was friendly from start to finish, and when they slapped that brisket down, I knew I was in good hands. Birmingham already punches above its weight when it comes to food, and this city will absolutely throw the grub at you and make you wanna slap yo momma. I ordered the Brisket Burger with baked beans, and mercy. Whoever's back there tending that brisket is a bona fide pitmaster. Juicy, smoky, downright righteous. The beans? Sweet, savory, and cooked like somebody's grandma had a say in the recipe. As if that wasn't enough, Steve Perry was on the speakers singing "Don't Stop Believin'," which felt like a spiritual confirmation that I'd made the right life choices that day. Burning Tree Smokehouse isn't just a meal--it's a Birmingham experience.
Great food and good service! We had brisket tacos and smoked wings. The restaurant is casual and a great vibe. There is outdoor seating available.
Hadn't heard about this place, so decided to try it after finding it on a google maps search. Pretty good pulled pork plate with collard greens and fries. The plate came out first without fries, but that was because they were currently frying them. The pulled pork was a decent portion, and it had good texture and flavor. The pork temperature was a bit on the cold side, though. The collards were decent. The fries were great, as they came at hot and fresh and in a good portion (I hate when places skimp on fries). One thing that needs to change is not running out of brisket on a Friday night! I was planning to order the brisket because as a Memphian, I have not really found pulled pork shoulder and pork ribs in Birmingham that can compete with what I've grown up on. Overall, I had a good experience, quite comparable to a Rodney Scott's BBQ or Martin's BBQ.
Great service, great service, great dine in experience! I am first timer for the Alabama white sauce and it did not disappoint. I used it to enhance the flavor of my scrumptious sandwich. The regular bbq sause was very good as well, used it for my fries. I am very satisfied with my experience. Highly suggest a visit here to Burning Tree Smokehouse.
This place has been on my radar for a long time. I was coming from Wildwood area and thought it was about time to stop by. The place was nice inside but I got my order to go. I decided to get a rib sandwich with collards. Glad I did. It was tasty. The ribs were tender and the collards were on point. I had several people recommend BurningTree and they were right. So glad I stopped by and my order came fast. Need to return for the tacos since I am a big taco fan.
I tried this place for the first time since the brisket tacos came highly recommended, but I have to say they were just average. The brisket didn't taste very seasoned and was a bit dry, in my opinion. It seemed like there might have been some seasoning on the shell, but it wasn't very noticeable. The sauce on the taco was good, though I wasn't sure why it also came with extra taco sauce on the side in a cup. The service was great, and there's plenty of seating both inside and outside on the patio. The patio especially has a great vibe for watching sports
The place is nice and the service was very pleasant. The chicken and the wings were good. The tacos were my favorite and the Mac has a processed taste with adding salt and pepper.

What a cool spot. Great menu felt like a creative twist to BBQ. Service was fast and efficient and it was a total team approach. Tried a few things and all were great. The Fries/BBQ/Gravy did not look great but OMG was soooo good. Will be back to try some other items! read more
I'm pretty sure that my first burning tree review should have been 3 stars. I was being nice since it was new at the time. Anyway , I came here recently to try their burger, since a friend of mine loves it. I arrived after 2ish and was able to find a parking spot easily. For whatever reason- it takes forever to place your order here. I'm not sure what the issue is and seems to be constant problem. So annoying to me. I got the burger (no mayo) extra pickles and I enjoyed. It wasn't the best burger I've ever had. I really like the bun it's served on. The fries were outstanding! My dine in experience was cool. The owner went all out to get the Bama men's basketball game on, at my request. Definitely worth an extra star. I'll continue to support this establishment , as the food is solid. I can't wait to try their burger ribs next! read more
Stopped here at the recommendation of a friend. I got a pulled pork plate with a side of fries and collards. The collards were ok but I love the fries. We also tried the wings and the Mac and cheese and the birria taco. Everything was very tasty. I'm not a huge fan of the Alabama white bbq sauce but that's bc I'm used to sc mustard lol. It was a bit off putting to eat pork while surrounded by a bunch of pictures of cute piggies looking at me read more
A friend took me to lunch here today. I had never heard of the place before she mentioned it to me. I was pleasantly surprised! It took me several minutes to find parking, but I love the building and vibe as I walked up. We went around noon and it was packed! We had to sit outside on the covered patio. The wait was a bit longer than I expected; however, like I said, it was very busy. We had the brisket tacos, which were oh so good! I immediately knew I had to come back with my husband because he loves brisket. I am definitely interested in trying some other things on the menu. I'll be back very soon! read more
I loveee BBQ. This is a gem right in pepper place. Lots to choose from! There are plenty of seats indoors as well as their patio area. They have a full bar if you want a cocktail as well. Their service is fast and the food is good. I enjoy coming here during my lunch breaks read more
Juneteenth 2025 and we finally made it to Burning Tree! I went with my family so we tried a number of things. Unfortunately they were sold out of ribs. It was barely 2pm. So that tells me that the ribs must be really good. Across our table, 2 had burgers, a leg quarter plate, pulled pork sandwich and a turkey sandwich. The brisket taco was outstanding. That may be my future go-to item. The burger was delicious but the patty is a bit small. The turkey was tasty. The pulled pork was decent and the leg quarter was nothing to write home about (it completely lacked seasoning and that smoked taste). We were not a fan of the sides. Fries were fries, the baked beans were OK, the slaw needed a bit more dressing, and the Mac and cheese had split table reviews. The ambiance is nice and the place has several seating options. Indoor, outdoor covered, outdoor open. The restroom was clean and simple. Service was really good. You order and take a table number and they deliver your food to your seat. Even the manager came out to check on us. I look forward to going back...I really want to taste those ribs but that brisket will still be a must have! read more
Could this be, as another reviewer suggested, the best barbecue in Birmingham? I don't know. I'm only here for two days. What I can tell you is that it might be the best barbecue I've ever had. Let me begin with a shout-out to my cashier, Amari, who steered me towards all the best menu items and did not let me miss out on the brisket taco. I got the "pick 2" special with 2 meats (brisket and ribs) and 2 sides (slaw and mac & cheese [which is not on the menu but they do have]) and then proceeded to add a side (collards) and the aforementioned taco. Exactly 6 minutes later, my food was at my table. This is not a full-service place, but that being said staff were circulating relatively often to ask guests if they needed anything. I intended to eat most of my food and take the leftovers back to my hotel. Then I started eating and I swear to god I entered a sort of fugue state and didn't stop until literally everything was gone. The brisket and ribs both had a nice bright pink ring, and the brisket was juicy and flavorful. The ribs looked like they still had the membrane on, and that bothered me for two seconds before I bit into them and never again. I will say, the ribs lean dry, but eating them without sauce seems like a prosecutable crime to me, so that didn't bother me either. Speaking of sauce, this one was a nice balance of sweet, a touch of heat, and a really pleasant kick of black pepper. The tortilla on the taco is DRY RUBBED, which is honestly a revelation and I'm mad I didn't think of it. I would pay money for the pickle recipe. The mac and cheese is baked and you get a nice mix-in of the crackly topping cheese. The coleslaw is fine-chopped and that black pepper kick shows up again here. The collards were solid but I have the least notes about them. All in all, I'd return here with no hesitation if I'm back in town. Really fabulous place. read more
For my week leading up to my birthday, I decided to try restaurants that have been on my "to-go" list. First up was Burning Tree Smokehouse. Upon entering I saw the owner who was very friendly and said the cashier will take good care of me. I didn't know what to order, so a few customers favorites were suggested. I haven't had a burger in a while so I opted for the brisket burger, baked beans and fries. The burger comes with cheese, grilled onions and pickles (I think). What I didn't realize was the burger was a ground beef patty and brisket..wow. First bite was delicious, a good combination of the meats with the sauce. The baked beans were good and the fries could have come out a little hotter. The mvp for me was the sweet tea. Not too sweet, just right. When I was leaving, there was a line waiting for more sweet tea to be made. That says a lot. Next time I will try the tacos. read more

Yelp! It's wet outside but Burning Tree is holding down the smoke. Just walking into this place smells good. We are a party of 5, ready for some good Juneteenth celebration cooking! We are definitely at the right spot. The front counter staff is super friendly, patient and nice. Thanks girl. We are a party of 5 and we all agree, you are good, but you need to add 1 or 2 more sides. We got everything and everybody trying all the food. We ordered 2 Hamburgers and fries, leg quarter and baked beans, brisket taco, turkey clubber with Mac and cheese and a pick two smoked turkey and pork with Mac and cheese and baked beans. This meat is fie, and I haven't even had the ribs. Turkey and pork are my favorite, then the burger. I don't eat brisket, but my table loved it. Baked beans got too much chili powder, macaroni is okay, and fries are delish. Y'all already know, I'm happy, so I'll be back. read more

Burning Tree BBQ (or is it Smokehouse?) -- Food Review Let me tell y'all about this spot real quick. First off, I'm not sure what the official name is Burning Tree BBQ or Burning Tree Smokehouse. It's giving BBQ identity crisis lol. Also, they have zero social media presence. No Facebook. No Instagram. Nothing. Which means this place is running purely on word of mouth. Respect -- but also, get on that ASAP. Great food deserves to be found more easily. I pulled up about 30 minutes after they opened. There were only a few folks inside, which was perfect. The exterior is clean and inviting black and red with some outdoor seating that looks like it could host a solid afternoon hangout. The inside? Definitely BBQ vibes, but with a modern twist. It wasn't chaotic, everything was clean, and the staff was friendly. The cashier greeted me with a big smile and good energy. Hospitality? 9/10, no question. Now, let's get to the food because man, we got some things to talk about. --- BBQ Brisket Cheeseburger Let me start by saying I'm not a huge brisket guy. I'm also picky about BBQ sauce most of it tastes like something squeezed out of a store-bought bottle. I believe good BBQ should stand on its own, with sauce as the supporting actor, not the star. So when I say I loved this burger, I mean it. From the first bite to the last, it was fire. The brisket wasn't dry, the burger was well-cooked and seasoned, and that sauce? That sauce was saucing. I'm convinced it was house-made and I'd buy a whole bottle if they sold it. That said, I'm giving it an 8/10. It could've been a 9, but for the price, the burger should've been a bit bigger. I need a little more burger for my buck, you know what I mean? --- Smoked Wings (Buffalo) Now listen these wings were juicy and seasoned to the GODS! Flavor wise? A revelation. But here's where things took a turn. I ordered Buffalo wings, and while I technically got them, the sauce was struggling. It didn't coat the wings properly. It was almost nonexistent, and the plate was swimming in oil. Like, I'm pretty sure the government would've declared it an oil reserve if they saw it. My hands were shiny like I'd just oiled a car engine. On the bright side, the ranch was excellent probably made in-house, too. If they can fix the sauce situation, these wings are easily a high 8 or even 9. As is? I'm giving them a 7.9/10. --- The Salad (yes, we're going there) So... the salad. It was fresh, crisp, and tasted fine. No complaints about the actual ingredients. But who made the executive decision to serve it in a cup? You can't shake it, mix it, or even dig in without making a mess. I had to dump it onto one of my trays just to dress and mix it properly. It felt more like a DIY project than a side salad. Pro tip: just put it in a bowl or at least something mixable. I'm giving it a 5/10 strictly based on inconvenience. --- Final Thoughts This place? Definitely worth checking out. I'll be back just for the burger alone. The staff is great, the food has serious potential, and the small issues they have are totally fixable. It's a Black-owned business with a promising future, and I genuinely hope it sticks around for the long haul. Oh -- and side note? I almost didn't try this place when I heard the owner used to work at Jim 'N Nick's (which I do not like). But this? Way better than Jim 'N Nick's. No comparison. I'd love to see them expand the menu, maybe add some smoked sausage or more options down the line. Bottom line: support this spot. You'll be glad you did. read more

Tried this new bbq spot and I'm happy to report that it was excellent. As soon as I approached the building the scent of delicious smoked meats hit me right in the face and I knew that it was about to be good. The menu is simple and has a good selection of meats ranging from smoked wings to pulled pork, and includes a few interesting options like brisket tacos and a dish called "brisket and gravy". I ordered both. The brisket in both dishes was melt-in-your-mouth and had a rich smoky flavor. Just great. I'd order both again but the brisket and gravy really hit the spot. Seasoned, crispy fries covered in chunks of brisket, topped with gravy and cheese? Yes. Just yes. The prices are reasonable, the service was quick, the food was delicious and the place was clean and had plenty of seating including a nice covered patio. Worth stopping in for sure. Get down there and try it. read more

SO picked me up from work for lunch. Since Burning Tree is close to where I work, we decided to give it a try. Parking is easy, so a definite plus. The visit had an interesting twist though, more on that later. The restaurant is cute with both inside and outside seatings. It's ordering at the register, get your own drinks, food delivered by number signs, and clean up after yourself. The tables are cool as the tabletops are made of different wood and they label the wood used. Looked to be mostly hardwood and some slightly more exotic. I appreciated them as my parents used to be in the hard wood industry. We ordered a chicken plate and the brisket fries. Got our drinks and then sat down to wait for our food. When the employee delivered our food, she accidentally knocked over my SO's drink. It spilled all over the table ONTO HIS LAP and his chair. So he jumped up and his shorts were all wet, along with wet table, wet chair, and wet floor. The employee said: "Oh, sorry" in the most uncaring way and just WALKED AWAY like nothing happened! No checking on the customer that she spilled the drink on, no offer to help clean up the table, nothing. Honestly, it wasn't a big deal as luckily he doesn't have to go back to work like I do, but we were both flabbergasted by the complete lack of concern the employee showed after spilling a drink all over somebody! In addition, the food delivered wasn't quite right. Constructive feedback to Burning Tree - train your employees on how to handle accidents! Accidents happen, no problem, but how you handle it is everything in the service industry! Also, train the employees to check at the time of delivery to at least ask if the order delivered is correct. Anyway, I am just glad it wasn't my drink as it would have been rough to go back to work with a soaked through crotch area,ha! Aside from the unpleasant incident, the food was actually good overall. The brisket was yum, the fries were hot, and the chicken not bad. We would definitely get the brisket fries again and would recommend it. read more
Had to say it twice because once is simply not enough. I Found this place on Yelp thank you family!!! This place was packed when I walked in and one look around told me everything I needed to know. I love the setup with the paper menu written right on the front window. Easy to update and it gives the whole place an authentic, no-frills feel that fits perfectly. I was originally going back and forth between the brisket sandwich and just getting straight brisket, but Ashley stepped in and guided me toward the four brisket tacos. Best decision I made all day. The brisket was incredibly tender. The sauce is a perfect combination of their house-made blend, salsa, and barbecue, and that squeeze of lime on top? Airtight. That lime brought the whole thing together in a way I was not expecting. The lemonade was cold and refreshing and complemented the meal perfectly. Service was five stars. Food was five stars. I will definitely be back. Next time I am adding a side salad from the start and possibly trying the barbecue crispy burger alongside one taco. Or I might just see if they can do brisket on a salad. Either way, Burning Tree Smokehouse is the real deal. read more

My guy and I returned to try out more of the menu. We were underwhelmed our first time visiting and to be honest, not much has changed. Same 3/5 stars. Let's start with my brisket tacos. The meat was skimpy but flavorful, and the shell was super hard and not enjoyable. The fries were crisp and seasoned well. The Mac and cheese wasn't good and tasted kinda like flour. The banana pudding was okay, not at all what I expected. My guy ordered the pork plate and said it was just okay. Bbq places are a dime a dozen in the city and Burning Tree just doesn't have anything that makes me want to go out of the way to eat there. I really want this restaurant to succeed. But to me, if the best thing to order is a taco from a BBQ restaurant, I will pass. The service was good and the ambiance is a typical bbq restaurant, aromatic and casual. I enjoyed the music playing on the speakers during our visit. I invite you to check them out. There are many favorable reviews. This is just my opinion after two separate visits. Happy eating! read more

I had the highest expectations coming here! I was excited to support the business. And I would still come back however I wasn't as impressed as I hoped. When our party of 4 got there no one really greeted us or acknowledged us. They could have just been busy with other things. But we had a few questions about the menu and unfortunately the person at the register was unable to help us. It is a newer restaurant but it just felt like poor preparation. I love there this is indoor and outdoor seating. There's a nice loft that you can sit at. The presentation of the food was so nice! I really like the fries but the brisket was really disappointing. It was so dry. I've never had brisket so dry honestly. The ribs were okay but nothing special. read more
