This place has been popping up recently on my searches, so I had been wanting to try it out and finally got a chance to do so. I'm glad I did. The inside is definitely bigger than what you think it will be when you first see the location. The register was getting a little backed up, so they brought out someone with a tablet who helped form a second line and get the backlog cleared up quickly. The rib sandwich was good, not worth the trip but good if you are there. The slaw was pretty bad, not a lot of flavor. Some of the BEST barbeque I've had in a (queue the Linda Ronstadt) long, long time. Burning Tree Smokehouse does great lunch business. Every time I come in here for weekday lunch, it's nearly full. The wings are fantastic, my dad got them with buffalo sauce. They have a great fry on them. I'm not a big fry person, but these came out so fresh, hot, crisp, with that perfect Lawry's flavor. I am a major fan of the brisket and pulled pork tacos. These are a must-try for people looking for Not Your Mama's BBQ. The tortillas are perfectly season, warmed, and retain their integrity as you eat the taco. They could sell ten kinds of tacos and I would try them all... just saying. Fast-casual. Hadn't heard about this place, so decided to try it after finding it on a google maps search. Pretty good pulled pork plate with collard greens and fries. The plate came out first without fries, but that was because they were currently frying them. The pulled pork was a decent portion, and it had good texture and flavor. The pork temperature was a bit on the cold side, though. The collards were decent. The fries were great, as they came at hot and fresh and in a good portion (I hate when places skimp on fries). One thing that needs to change is not running out of brisket on a Friday night! I was planning to order the brisket because as a Memphian, I have not really found pulled pork shoulder and pork ribs in Birmingham that can compete with what I've grown up on. I got the Pick Two. My two meats were brisket and sausage. My two sides were the collard greens and mac-n-cheese. The sides were good. The mac-n-cheese was very good. The collards had a little heat to them. The cornbread was good and perfect for the greens. The sausage was good. The brisket was good but not like Texas brisket. The ring was missing and it was dry which made it sauce dependent. Having lived in Texas for 8 years I learned what brisket is supposed to look like. They are masters at cooking it. However this brisket is the best I've had in Alabama. This place is new so maybe they will keep working on it and get it right. However for $19 the portions are a little small. Upon entering I saw the owner who was very friendly and said the cashier will take good care of me. I didn't know what to order, so a few customers favorites were suggested. I haven't had a burger in a while so I opted for the brisket burger, baked beans and fries. The burger comes with cheese, grilled onions and pickles (I think). What I didn't realize was the burger was a ground beef patty and brisket..wow. First bite was delicious, a good combination of the meats with the sauce. Juneteenth 2025 and we finally made it to Burning Tree! I went with my family so we tried a number of things. Unfortunately they were sold out of ribs. It was barely 2pm. So that tells me that the ribs must be really good. Across our table, 2 had burgers, a leg quarter plate, pulled pork sandwich and a turkey sandwich. The brisket taco was outstanding. That may be my future go-to item. The burger was delicious but the patty is a bit small. The turkey was tasty. The pulled pork was decent and the leg quarter was nothing to write home about (it completely lacked seasoning and that smoked taste). We were not a fan of the sides. Fries were fries, the baked beans were OK, the slaw needed a bit more dressing, and the Mac and cheese had split table reviews. The ambiance is nice and the place has several seating options. Indoor, outdoor covered, outdoor open. The restroom was clean and simple. Service was really good. You order and take a table number and they deliver your food to your seat. Could this be, as another reviewer suggested, the best barbecue in Birmingham? I don't know. I'm only here for two days. What I can tell you is that it might be the best barbecue I've ever had. Let me begin with a shout-out to my cashier, Amari, who steered me towards all the best menu items and did not let me miss out on the brisket taco. I got the "pick 2" special with 2 meats (brisket and ribs) and 2 sides (slaw and mac & cheese [which is not on the menu but they do have]) and then proceeded to add a side (collards) and the aforementioned taco. Exactly 6 minutes later, my food was at my table. This is not a full-service place, but that being said staff were circulating relatively often to ask guests if they needed anything. I intended to eat most of my food and take the leftovers back to my hotel. Then I started eating and I swear to god I entered a sort of fugue state and didn't stop until literally everything was gone. The brisket and ribs both had a nice bright pink ring, and the brisket was juicy and flavorful. The ribs looked like they still had the membrane on, and that bothered me for two seconds before I bit into them and never again. I will say, the ribs lean dry, but eating them without sauce seems like a prosecutable crime to me, so that didn't bother me either. Speaking of sauce, this one was a nice balance of sweet, a touch of heat, and a really pleasant kick of black pepper. The tortilla on the taco is DRY RUBBED, which is honestly a revelation and I'm mad I didn't think of it. I would pay money for the pickle recipe. The mac and cheese is baked and you get a nice mix-in of the crackly topping cheese. The coleslaw is fine-chopped and that black pepper kick shows up again here. Had to say it twice because once is simply not enough. I Found this place on Yelp thank you family!!! This place was packed when I walked in and one look around told me everything I needed to know. I love the setup with the paper menu written right on the front window. Easy to update and it gives the whole place an authentic, no-frills feel that fits perfectly. I was originally going back and forth between the brisket sandwich and just getting straight brisket, but Ashley stepped in and guided me toward the four brisket tacos. Best decision I made all day. The brisket was incredibly tender. The sauce is a perfect combination of their house-made blend, salsa, and barbecue, and that squeeze of lime on top? Airtight. My guy and I returned to try out more of the menu. We were underwhelmed our first time visiting and to be honest, not much has changed. Same 3/5 stars. Let's start with my brisket tacos. The meat was skimpy but flavorful, and the shell was super hard and not enjoyable. The fries were crisp and seasoned well. The Mac and cheese wasn't good and tasted kinda like flour. The banana pudding was okay, not at all what I expected. My guy ordered the pork plate and said it was just okay. Respect -- but also, get on that ASAP. Great food deserves to be found more easily. I pulled up about 30 minutes after they opened. There were only a few folks inside, which was perfect. The exterior is clean and inviting black and red with some outdoor seating that looks like it could host a solid afternoon hangout. The inside? Definitely BBQ vibes, but with a modern twist. It wasn't chaotic, everything was clean, and the staff was friendly. The cashier greeted me with a big smile and good energy. Hospitality? 9/10, no question. Now, let's get to the food because man, we got some things to talk about. --- BBQ Brisket Cheeseburger Let me start by saying I'm not a huge brisket guy. SO picked me up from work for lunch. Since Burning Tree is close to where I work, we decided to give it a try. Parking is easy, so a definite plus. The visit had an interesting twist though, more on that later. The restaurant is cute with both inside and outside seatings. It's ordering at the register, get your own drinks, food delivered by number signs, and clean up after yourself. The tables are cool as the tabletops are made of different wood and they label the wood used. Looked to be mostly hardwood and some slightly more exotic. I appreciated them as my parents used to be in the hard wood industry. We ordered a chicken plate and the brisket fries. Got our drinks and then sat down to wait for our food. When the employee delivered our food, she accidentally knocked over my SO's drink. It spilled all over the table ONTO HIS LAP and his chair. So he jumped up and his shorts were all wet, along with wet table, wet chair, and wet floor. The employee said: "Oh, sorry" in the most uncaring way and just WALKED AWAY like nothing happened! No checking on the customer that she spilled the drink on, no offer to help clean up the table, nothing. Honestly, it wasn't a big deal as luckily he doesn't have to go back to work like I do, but we were both flabbergasted by the complete lack of concern the employee showed after spilling a drink all over somebody! In addition, the food delivered wasn't quite right. Constructive feedback to Burning Tree - train your employees on how to handle accidents! Accidents happen, no problem, but how you handle it is everything in the service industry! Also, train the employees to check at the time of delivery to at least ask if the order delivered is correct. The turkey is lightly seasoned, tasty, but needed to be a little warmer. The mac and cheese is the creamy style with some cheese on top. Not my favorite, but I can see how it might appeal to some. The fries are the basic crinkled type fries that were hot and crispy with something similar to Lawry's seasoned salt sprinkled on top. The tacos were probably the "star" of the meal. We went with the chicken and the brisket tacos. The flour tortilla is crispy and seasoned. Unfortunately, the meats are a bit buried in too much pico de gallo plus a chipotle crema so everything just falls everywhere when you try to eat it. Perhaps asking for that on the side would help. There are many other options on the menu to try. Unfortunately, they were out of the collard greens, which was the vegetable of the day. I hear it's quite the lunch spot, so perhaps coming then might yield an even better experience. For this visit, I give it a B+. read more

Everything was fantastic. From the brisket tacos to the frozen margaritas. A Birmingham diamond in the rough.

I loved the tacos, both the pork and the brisket. The baked beans and collards were very good too. Our friends enjoyed the ribs. Hubby said the pork was good but not great, same for the cole slaw, but he makes great beans and pork and slaw at home, so he's pretty picky. Dining semi outside was special! This is my first time in this establishment, and I will say I love your location. I love the ambience of the building. The staff was very friendly. They have some very great menu options. Now, I love tacos, so I decided to have the brisket taco. It was smoked to perfection, which was a great choice. The coleslaw was a little different. It didn't have much flavor, and it was a little dry for my taste. But I would definitely go back to try other options. read more
