I heard alot of great things about Salud. Salud reminds me of the taqueria's in Mexico, with the Jarrito sodas, pineapple and mandarin Try them with a tequila shot! Also the guacamole, the cheese dip and the tacos. They do have a full bar and can do frozen drinks. I loved that you can add your own toppings to your tacos. The tacos come with just meat. You can add onions, limes, cilantro and pickled onions and pickled jalapeños as well as sauce. They had a Verde sauce as well as regular salsa, and a Salsa Borachja sauce with onion, garlic and Mexican beer. It was spicy and delicious. They have plenty of counter seating, a few tables inside and several tables outside. This is a tapas bar more than a testaurant. read more

Wow what a great place for tacos! I'm sure the burritos are excellent too. I tried the panza (pork belly) and chorizo tacos. They might be $5 each, which isn't a bad deal. They load it up on meat. Then there is a salsa and toppings bar. If you mix the tomatillo and hot salsa they are great on the tacos with the caramelized onions and cilantro. The service is quick to let you get in and out for a quick lunch break. So time is not an issue there. The ambience is chill and casual. read more

This block of downtown Birmingham is doing it right. Salud, Paramount, Johina, Trattoria Zaza, and Forstall Art Center have all made the effort to create a lively section of downtown. I came here most recently for a Tuesday lunch (Taco Tuesday, anybody?) and was impressed by all of the coworkers and friends out on the town, eating lunch together here and all around. One of those "proud to be from Birmingham" moments. I love Salud, been here several times already. The margaritas hit the spot. I had a paloma this time, which was the perfect light lunch cocktail. I ordered my taco assortment purely by the recommendations of the woman at the front (fast-casual ordering system). I had the pork belly, carne asada, and suadero. Big fan of suadero, and it's delicious here. That's the taco I 100% recommend. They deliver your food based on a table number which is a lotería card--love that touch. The weather was perfect, so we got to enjoy the tables outside. This place is pure joy, simplicity, and a fantastic representation of hispanic culture here in Birmingham. I've been here a good number of times already, and I have to say, every time I've been here, it's been very good. I have tried most of their original tacos, and their Burrito del Norte. Their avocado green sauce is really good. Salud is a genuine treasure in the heart of downtown Birmingham. The vibes, the downright lovely people who provide excellent customer service and the food all combine into this magic that you feel as soon as you walk in the front door and I just love it. In fact, I'm getting warm feelings right now just thinking about my time here. Their vegan option is a nopal taco (tender, marinated cactus). It's excellent, but what makes it next level is that SALSA BAR with the best salsas I've ever had. It reminds me of taquerias in California. I drowned my taco in all of the sauces. In fact, I could probably be happy eating tortillas and salsa here. Because, yes, the tortillas are that delicious. As is that guac. Again, some of the best I've ever had, gimmicky tableside guac included (never felt that was such a great thing anyway). Here, you get a generous portion of the creamiest quality guac you can imagine. I can't report on the margaritas other than to say they look gorgeous. A friend told us about SALUD. We were downtown for a concert and decided to stop by. Unfortnately, we had already had dinner, but we still had room for queso and chips. It was a Friday evening, and the restaurant was packed. Lots of employees from UAB were there. Our queso was delicious...the food the others were ordering looked amazing. This is a great fast-casual restaurant right downtown. I got three different tacos, cheese dip and guacamole which were all very good. Drinks were also good. Service was friendly and very quick. Only reason for 4 stars is everything came in to-go type containers and was a little pricey for the portion sizes. I did like that the tacos were build-your-own though. read more

Some days you are running so late...aw f@&# it...let's grab some Mexican and margaritas. Had a coupon from a realtor friend that was also begging to be used. This was our second visit actually. We blundered in during the 'soft open' and they were very gracious to serve us. The food was very good so we're glad to be back. The Sanoran taco was really good. We got it with the Al pastor protein. Got a couple of the regular tacos too (~$5 each). All good. The lunch crowd is mostly business folks in full Dilbert mode. Walked over for lunch on a work day. First time customer. Nice employees. Ordered 2 tacos and a Torta. Picked Pastor, Panza, and Suadero. Would only recommend Suadero - flavorful and tender. Pastor was hard and dry, no pineapples other than a single piece on top. Panza was over fried on the outside but the fat still not melted on the inside. What pushed them to 4-stars for me was the toppings bar. I would go again due to the convenient location for me and the toppings bar. El Barrior is better for downtown with more comfortable seatings, better atmosphere, and better food. However, this is not bad considering the limited selections in the area. First time to Salud this weekend! Cute spot downtown with indoor and outdoor seating. Service was great. Chips and guacamole were good, nothing crazy. We tried the Suadero and pastor tacos. My first visit to Salud consisted of great service and amazing food!!! The staff greeted me promptly upon entering the restaurant. The mood is really relaxed inside. Table seating , high top and bar seating. A nice outside seating area is available too! Quite spacious. I ordered two tacos ( pollo and carne asada). I loaded up on fresh toppings and sauces from the toppings bar. I washed it all down with some specialty margarita. It was tasty!!! Updating my previous review- I've been here a few times now and I would confidently give Salud 5 stars! I've tried a few different items but my overall favorite has been the Torta. I usually order chicken as my protein but I decided to try out the carne asada (steak). I loved it and have ordered it as my protein the past couple of visits! Is it an overstatement to say that this Torta is life-changing? Maybe. But believe me when I say that Salud is serving up some great Mexican street food with a generous toppings bar. The service is always quick, the workers are all very friendly, and the prices are reasonable (especially considering the amount of protein you get)! We stopped by Salud after work one day after around 5:30. It seems like that may be the perfect time on a weekday because not shortly after it got very busy. There's not much seating inside but if it's nice there's plenty outside. The host was so nice! He was quick to help and just had a nice attitude! We decided on the torta and burrito. The food is good and it's even better because you can customize it with as many or as little toppings as you want. It is a little pricer for the portions. Holy cow, when you first walk in you don't really expect too much. The ambience is pretty simple but holy cow, The food is absolutely delicious. Margaritas were pretty good too. I highly recommend this if you want a low-key meal that's actually delicious. I will say, though it was kind of expensive which you quickly forgot after your first bite. We tried the burrito de Norte with carne asada , traditional quesadilla and gringo bowl. The quesadilla is the best quesadilla I think I have ever had, the burrito del Norte sub rice add carne was huge and delicious nothing was left, definitely the best burrito I have had in a long time, like really long time. My friends and I grabbed lunch here one afternoon. I love the big windows so you can get some sunshine and people watch. I tried the chicken, pork, and pork belly sonoran tacos...not knowing they'd be so big! I at the pork one while there and it was great. They also have a condiment bar that you can use to customize your meal. The other two tacos were my dinner and midnight snack, the pork belly turned out to be my fav with the chicken as my #2. We came here for lunch and it was a nice day out so we sat outside on the sidewalk. It is on the corner in the heart of downtown, and even though it was a weekend, the people watching was great. PRO TIP: There is a garage a half block up that offers free parking for the first hour. Most of the patrons were sitting outside, but they do have a decent sized indoor seating area along with bar. You order at the counter and get a number. The food came out within 15 minutes, with the chicorrones we ordered coming out first. They give you packets of hot sauce for this, but I enjoyed dipping it in the green sauce from the salsa bar the most. The salsa bar also contains one super spicy one in a small bowl so be careful! I got carne asada and pastor tacos for my entree and I would describe it as an "elevated street taco." The ingredients were top notch and the pastor came with a chunk of pineapple in it. My coworkers and I like to choose a different bar to go to every or every other month together after work. We chose Salud because we were all curious but had not been there. The drinks were... interesting. They were quite small, and a little expensive for the size. Granted, they were strong, but so small. It is also a MAJOR turn off to sit outside, trying to enjoy the air and breeze and there are several homeless citizens that sit right around you, and in particular there was a woman who likes to stand there as you are eating or drinking and stare at you, almost like trying to intimidate you. It was quite annoying. Not very spacious inside so its not too many places to sit without going to the outside tables. read more

Went to Salud for a quick bite and was not impressed with the tacos. I wanted the pastor (pork), but they were out of it for the night. I ended up going with the pollo (chicken) tacos and they were unfortunately very dry and lacking flavor. The only sauce I liked was the avocado one. The red sauces weren't great. Not sure if I'll be in a hurry to go back. I can't speak to the drinks, but the restaurant is on the smaller side, mostly bar stool seating. Staff was nice. I have to give this place five stars because I was walking from a worksite to my hotel with a little bit of hunger, and I saw this establishment with a sign that said burritos. I walked in and accidentally pointed at the quesadilla on the menu and like 15 minutes I was like wait, I pointed to the quesadilla. I told them I'm sorry I meant to order the burrito. At first, they said the quesadilla is basically done , sorry. But then, they said you know what, we're making you the burrito. Don't worry about the quesadilla. And because of that kindness, I have to say that I recommend this location. I will say I did see somebody else's quesadillas and it looks good too. Lol. They asked me how the burrito was and I said it was better than I expected and it really was. It was delicious, cheesy and they have a nice little sauce bar. They also have a full liquor bar, which is nice. For $18 I will say they could've maybe added like a side of chips. It seemed like a lot $. However, I will say the burrito did fill me up.
