Where do I begin? First of all, the restaurant is very colorfully decorated, which instantly brightens the mood. We were able to seat ourselves, and immediately afterwards the waitress brought complimentary salsa and chips as she took our drink and food order. The salsa and chips were very good. The chips were crisp and freshly made and the salsa had just the right amount of kick to it. It was sweet and unique and I could see myself ordering it as a to-go order. For our entrees, I ordered 3 street tacos and cheese dip. My guy ordered the steak fajita plate. After a short wait, our food arrived, hot and fresh off the grill. I wasn't a fan of the pollo taco. It was bland and lacked any type of flavor. However, the campechano and chorizo versions were much better. The cheese dip stayed watered down even after it cooled but had a good flavor to it. I looked up to see my guy reaching for the salt shaker several times. I tasted a small serving of his steak. Yall..,.I kid you not. That steak had no type of seasoning-no salt, no pepper, no nothing had been sprinkled on it. To sum it up...it was overcooked and under seasoned. He kept trying to doctor the dish up by adding salt and pepper but after a while stopped because that should've been done in the cooking of the dish. He only ate a 1/3 of his dish. Upon paying the check, he attempted to share his disappointment with the waitress, who now all of a sudden, doesn't understand English. Keep in mind, we had been communicating with her just fine throughout our time there. Needless to say, we will not be returning to the restaurant location anytime soon. When you walk in, the service is a little confusing. You walk into the front and the counter looks like where you might order, but it's where you pay at the end. However, you do get served. First of all, this place had AC that was broken or malfunctioning. My group was seated in a corner and we were sweating like hogs during the entirety of our experience. It was actually cooler once we stepped outside (in mid July). I was starving for the steak nachos but was massively underwhelmed. I feel like nachos are one of those things that are hard to mess up. However, the steak was more like ground beef, and despite the amount of cheese and chopped vegetables, the flavor was lacking. Also, there were barely any chips, and the cost to have a refill of chips is $2. When I asked for a water, I was given a water bottle without any notice beforehand that this would be the only option and obviously an extra charge. I will say that the service is very speedy, attentive, and thorough. The margaritas were very tasty (lime, prickly pear, strawberry were the best). However, they were quite small relative to other margs around town and significantly more expensive. For the venue size and atmosphere, I was a little disappointed at the price point for the portion sizes. My nachos, water, and margarita ended up being $25 before tax. We had dinner here right before a concert in Avondale. Chips with salsa were served right away for the table and our order was taken promptly. The food was very good. The chips were warm and the salsa just hot enough to feel like you were doing something with your life. The tacos were fairly reasonably priced for the size. The picture doesn't quite do it justice. These were well-filled tacos. I was quite full after two. Finally, the green tamales were also very good and steamed to perfection. All in all, four tacos and two tamales was more than enough for the two of us. The restaurant itself is a bustling center of activity with people coming into grab to-go orders and there was a din of people enjoying themselves. This was very pleasant to my ears. My only critiques were: first, water is not provided as standard. We had to pay for two water bottles. This feels like a bit of leftover from when this was a food truck. Honestly (especially on a very hot Alabama day), if I'm going to spend $25 on food with you, I should receive a glass of complimentary ice water. I would even be willing to pay $1 for the chips instead or something to help defray those costs. Second, the food took forever to arrive. It was busy, to be sure, but we waited for four tacos and two tamales (neither of which are slow to make) for more than 35 minutes, which is too long. Small, very quiet restaurant! This place was ok. I spent $24 on three tacos, a $9 margarita and $1 bottle of water. Their salsa is TOP TIER. I wish I could've enjoyed it with chips but they were horribly stale and weren't able to be replaced. While the tacos weren't exactly seasoned they were still very good because of the quality of ingredients. The beef was one of the best I've had. The chicken and fish weren't seasoned but still very fresh tasting. Toppings are extra but everything came out hot. They don't have free water but instead have $1 bottles of Pure Life which isn't told to you upon ordering. My strawberry margarita was horrible and tasted like pure salt. It tasted like it came from a cheap brand from Walmart. Service was good. Overall I probably won't be back but my hungry belly was satisfied for this trip. read more

The food was just okay. I was expecting a little more flavor. It took a long time for our food to come out but it was decent.

I've heard so many great things about this place. After finally trying it last week, I can confirm it does live up to the hype. I ordered a steak quesadilla with refried beans and rice with a side of chips, salsa, and queso. The chips, salsa, and queso were amazing. The steak quesadilla was also really good. A tad saltier than I would have liked, but that's where the rice and beans helped balance the flavor. The interior of the place could be nicer. I definitely think a renovation would help them out a lot. No reason why it can't look like a Bartaco with garage doors and patio seating. They have the space for it, and it would really liven up the neighborhood! One downside was that even when I ate indoors, there were flies competing with me for my food. Not fun, but maybe it means the food is really good? So I'm late trying this place since it's connected to the sketchiest gas station in town! My husband had asked for no onions on his tacos, and both were filled with those (minus 1 star). He was able to scrape them off, and he said both were good. The portion of fries was huge! I swung by Taco Morro Loco today for Birmingham Restaurant Week. This is my second time visiting. I wasn't that impressed the first time I went, so I thought I would give it a try since they were one of the local spots on the $10 lunch list. I was quickly seated at a bar-style table with another gentleman (since it was just me) and offered chips and salsa and a drink. They serve Pepsi products, so I got a diet. I asked about the BRW menu, but my waitress didn't speak much English and didn't understand what I was asking about. I pulled up the menu on my phone and just ordered 3 al pastor tacos (the deal was chips and salsa as an appetizer, and three tacos (either al pastor, fish, or shrimp). The salsa is delicious and smoky, with flecks of charred tomato and peppers throughout. The chips were very thin and perfectly salted, although they were a little stale from the humidity (I remember this from the last time I visited - the chips had a bit of a chew to them instead of being crispy). The tacos were delicious and beautifully presented, with three very generous tacos smothered in cilantro, fresh diced pineapple, and diced onions. Each taco was two corn tortillas filled with delicately seasoned, tender bits of pork. A smoky tomato based sauce was served on the side with a fire roasted bulb onion and jalapeno pepper. The tacos were wonderful! Here's the funny part. I should've been charged $10 - the BRW menu price. However, because I only ordered the tacos al pastor, they charged me $9.90 - quite a deal for a meal and drink! I really enjoyed it, and I'll definitely be back. read more

My go to dish changes from time to time, but I like to keep it kind of consistent, because that makes it easy to compare with other places and what they have to offer. I went with the tacos here, really pretty top notch. Overall flavor was really good and the meat had some good juice to it. Staff was friendly enough. Did just what was expected and checked at a good interval. Prices are in line with what you would expect to pay at any other location that is similar (sit down style Mexican). They do have a small shared parking lot with a gas station. For ease, you can park across the street at Avondale Park .... really close, literally across the street. I have a habit of salting my food before trying it, since 2009 that's been a no no.. I'm so thankful for a husband that teaches me otherwise. This place didn't need a thing, everything was delicious. As a fan of tacos, I love trying them at different locations all around Birmingham. I was not very fond of Taco Morro Loco tacos, which to me they tasted average when comparing to other locations. This location is the closest to work and I have only been there 2 times since I notice them. I tried the Al Pastor, and Asada. The Al pastor had good seasoning, but I was not liking the pineapples, which tasted like they were from a can. The asada was much better but did not really wowed me. The tacos are full of meat, with a double layer of tortilla, which I was satisfied with on just 2. The tortillas were not too dry which is a plus for me. I have to say that you do get your money worths on this tacos. This is a place I would consider on those cravings days, when I don't feel like driving far. read more
