When you walk in, the service is a little confusing. You walk into the front and the counter looks like where you might order, but it's where you pay at the end. However, you do get served. First of all, this place had AC that was broken or malfunctioning. My group was seated in a corner and we were sweating like hogs during the entirety of our experience. It was actually cooler once we stepped outside (in mid July). I was starving for the steak nachos but was massively underwhelmed. I feel like nachos are one of those things that are hard to mess up. However, the steak was more like ground beef, and despite the amount of cheese and chopped vegetables, the flavor was lacking. Also, there were barely any chips, and the cost to have a refill of chips is $2. When I asked for a water, I was given a water bottle without any notice beforehand that this would be the only option and obviously an extra charge. I will say that the service is very speedy, attentive, and thorough. The margaritas were very tasty (lime, prickly pear, strawberry were the best). However, they were quite small relative to other margs around town and significantly more expensive. For the venue size and atmosphere, I was a little disappointed at the price point for the portion sizes. My nachos, water, and margarita ended up being $25 before tax. I would probably try a different place for the same vibe next time.
We had dinner here right before a concert in Avondale. Chips with salsa were served right away for the table and our order was taken promptly. The food was very good. The chips were warm and the salsa just hot enough to feel like you were doing something with your life. The tacos were fairly reasonably priced for the size. The picture doesn't quite do it justice. These were well-filled tacos. I was quite full after two. Finally, the green tamales were also very good and steamed to perfection. All in all, four tacos and two tamales was more than enough for the two of us. The restaurant itself is a bustling center of activity with people coming into grab to-go orders and there was a din of people enjoying themselves. This was very pleasant to my ears. My only critiques were: first, water is not provided as standard. We had to pay for two water bottles. This feels like a bit of leftover from when this was a food truck. Honestly (especially on a very hot Alabama day), if I'm going to spend $25 on food with you, I should receive a glass of complimentary ice water. I would even be willing to pay $1 for the chips instead or something to help defray those costs. Second, the food took forever to arrive. It was busy, to be sure, but we waited for four tacos and two tamales (neither of which are slow to make) for more than 35 minutes, which is too long. This might be a one-off issue for just this night, but it put a small damper on an otherwise lovely night. Will definitely return again.
Small, very quiet restaurant! This place was ok. I spent $24 on three tacos, a $9 margarita and $1 bottle of water. Their salsa is TOP TIER. I wish I could've enjoyed it with chips but they were horribly stale and weren't able to be replaced. While the tacos weren't exactly seasoned they were still very good because of the quality of ingredients. The beef was one of the best I've had. The chicken and fish weren't seasoned but still very fresh tasting. Toppings are extra but everything came out hot. They don't have free water but instead have $1 bottles of Pure Life which isn't told to you upon ordering. My strawberry margarita was horrible and tasted like pure salt. It tasted like it came from a cheap brand from Walmart. Service was good. Overall I probably won't be back but my hungry belly was satisfied for this trip.
If you're looking for a cozy neighborhood Mexican food place, look no further. If you open up their menu and pick blindly, you're bound to find something good. They have everything from flautas to chile rellenos. We had the crunchwrap and cheese covered burrito ahogado, which both hit the spot. Solid, simple and tasty. The servers are attentive without being overbearing, and food came out very quickly. Will have to try the tacos next time, the pictures looked so good!
Chips and salsa came out quickly and drinks were ordered ASAP. Salsa was spicy just like I like it. Ordered two tacos. Pastor and a Campechano. They were served with a spicy salsa and a fresh lime. Street taco style with a double corn tortilla. You can't ask for anything better than that. My beer or was a dos XX and I ordered it dressed. It came dressed but was an amber not a lager which I was expecting.
Taco Morro Loco is fantastic! I had the asada burrito, and it was packed with flavor. The queso was exceptionally good and added the perfect touch. Friendly service and a great vibe. Highly recommend!
The burrito ahogado was tasty. Their salsa is a nice creamy consistency with a mild kick to it, and the queso was also smooth and not too thick. A friend got a steak burrito and another got a chicken crunchwrap and all of us enjoyed our meals. The service was average and as far as ambiance, it's a pretty standard lunchtime place, nothing fancy. I'd probably come back!
I would say that this is moderate. I communicated to the girl in Spanish that I wanted three shrimp tacos and she brought me back one. For it to be the spicy shrimp. It was very bland. I'm glad that she did bring just the one. The decor is a little bit dated and the food came out very quickly. I will say that my friend got the fish taco and that was very hot and good.
These are seriously the best tacos I have ever had! Everything was so fresh and absolutely delicious. The staff were so friendly and the service was unbelievable fast.
I've heard so many great things about this place. After finally trying it last week, I can confirm it does live up to the hype. I ordered a steak quesadilla with refried beans and rice with a side of chips, salsa, and queso. The chips, salsa, and queso were amazing. The steak quesadilla was also really good. A tad saltier than I would have liked, but that's where the rice and beans helped balance the flavor. The interior of the place could be nicer. I definitely think a renovation would help them out a lot. No reason why it can't look like a Bartaco with garage doors and patio seating. They have the space for it, and it would really liven up the neighborhood! One downside was that even when I ate indoors, there were flies competing with me for my food. Not fun, but maybe it means the food is really good? So I'm late trying this place since it's connected to the sketchiest gas station in town! Growing up, my mom would never ever stop here despite it being the cheapest one we saw. Taco Morro Loco is definitely making this area less scary, and I really don't have a problem coming back here. In the daytime..... :)
If you know you know!! Best tacos! The girls here let me make up some breakfast tacos one day after the gym. It's small restaurant next to an gas station. They also have a food truck.. the menu is consultant the food is always good! If you you find them give them a try!
OMG!! Can we have a moment to appreciate how good the food is here!! I ordered the Chimichangas with azada (steak). It came filled with steak, onions, and peppers. Topped with avocado, pico dr gallo, Chihuahua queso, and sour cream. The sides include refried beans and rice. The steak was tender and seasoned perfectly. The crust was deep fried. It was golden brown, crispy/ flaky on the outside and soft on the inside. I was in love with crust from first bite . Now let's talk about the salsa. I've never had warm salsa. And it was amazing!! It was the perfect blj end of onion, tomatoes, cilantro, and heaven!! The cookedd were fresh and fried just right. They lost a star because the rice was cold. The beans were barely warm. These were my only issues!!

Taco Morro Loco's food truck was parked in Lakeview near the bar I was planning to visit, so I decided to give it a try. One thing I really liked was the wide variety of protein options on the menu. I ordered two tripa tacos and was very happy with the flavor. The tripa was well-seasoned, and the tacos were satisfying overall. The staff on the truck were friendly and patient while I decided what to order, and I never felt rushed. My food was prepared quickly, which I definitely appreciated. The only downside was the price. I paid around $11 or $12 for two tacos, which is a bit more expensive than the food truck I usually visit. That said, I assume the higher price is due to the Lakeview location. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and would definitely stop by again if I'm in the Lakeview area. read more

Where do I begin? First of all, the restaurant is very colorfully decorated, which instantly brightens the mood. We were able to seat ourselves, and immediately afterwards the waitress brought complimentary salsa and chips as she took our drink and food order. The salsa and chips were very good. The chips were crisp and freshly made and the salsa had just the right amount of kick to it. It was sweet and unique and I could see myself ordering it as a to-go order. For our entrees, I ordered 3 street tacos and cheese dip. My guy ordered the steak fajita plate. After a short wait, our food arrived, hot and fresh off the grill. I wasn't a fan of the pollo taco. It was bland and lacked any type of flavor. However, the campechano and chorizo versions were much better. The cheese dip stayed watered down even after it cooled but had a good flavor to it. I looked up to see my guy reaching for the salt shaker several times. I tasted a small serving of his steak. Yall..,.I kid you not. That steak had no type of seasoning-no salt, no pepper, no nothing had been sprinkled on it. To sum it up...it was overcooked and under seasoned. He kept trying to doctor the dish up by adding salt and pepper but after a while stopped because that should've been done in the cooking of the dish. He only ate a 1/3 of his dish. Upon paying the check, he attempted to share his disappointment with the waitress, who now all of a sudden, doesn't understand English. Keep in mind, we had been communicating with her just fine throughout our time there. Needless to say, we will not be returning to the restaurant location anytime soon. I am very picky when it comes to Mexican food since that is my expertise. I am taking my time to write this review since this place is authentic. It was recommended that I try the chicken flautas and they exceeded my expectations. Just like tacos, the flautas rely heavily on the salsa quality that they are bathed in; this key component either makes or breaks them. These were not overly spicy, and the many flavors complimented this traditional dish very well. The decor in this place is legit, and staff are knowledgeable and proud of the food they serve. If you want authentic Mexican food, I recommend Taco Morro Loco. I am looking forward to eating here again, next time I am in Birmingham. read more

Their chips and salsa are especially delicious. Thicker chips. Still crispy. Maybe roasted tomatoes in the salsa? I dunno. Something different. Something special. Veggie tacos were incredible. So fresh and cooked perfectly. Still had texture. The homemade red chili sauce on the side was an unexpected treat. I will definitely go back more often. Service was quick, and they were kind. The food! If you want to enjoy good Mexican food, always follow the locals! I stopped quickly as it was near the park. As much as I've been to Avondale park I never went to this spot. The locals were heavy and I knew I had to try it! Let me just stop you now and tell you the pastor tacos with pineapple are worth every flavor filled bite! The pork is juicy, tender and packed with flavor! The steak tacos are second in line for me and lastly the chicken. The prices have increased a bit but that's to be expected. It's worth every dime! The service was fast as well. I highly recommend. read more
Been at the restaurant a couple times and have had their tacos from the truck before. One of my favorite mexican food places in the area. Fair prices as well. Loved the asada and al pastor tacos. Had the nachos morro loco with asada as well as fajitas with asada. All were tasty, filling, hot n' fresh from the grill. Only minor concern is that both times I had dined at the restaurant, the chips were stale that came with the salsa in the beginning. Otherwise, great food, decent prices and generous portions. Will be back again. read more

Great find! Great street style tacos for an afternoon snack. Generous servings, I had the pastor (fresh pineapple on top) and a shrimp taco with fresh avocado. Very reasonably priced for the quality and portions. Will return next time I'm in BHM. read more
If you've read any of my review before, you would know I have a thing for authentic Mexican food. That's my weakness. We were at Cahaba a few weeks ago for trivia, and this food truck was here. I ordered the Asada Nachos, and my husband ordered two different tacos and an order of fries. My nachos were extremely filling and def. worth the $10. My husband had asked for no onions on his tacos, and both were filled with those (minus 1 star). He was able to scrape them off, and he said both were good. The portion of fries was huge! Def. enough for the entire table to share! Will we make a special trip out to eat with these guys again? Probably not. If the truck is out where we are, will we eat there again? I swung by Taco Morro Loco today for Birmingham Restaurant Week. This is my second time visiting. I wasn't that impressed the first time I went, so I thought I would give it a try since they were one of the local spots on the $10 lunch list. I was quickly seated at a bar-style table with another gentleman (since it was just me) and offered chips and salsa and a drink. They serve Pepsi products, so I got a diet. I asked about the BRW menu, but my waitress didn't speak much English and didn't understand what I was asking about. I pulled up the menu on my phone and just ordered 3 al pastor tacos (the deal was chips and salsa as an appetizer, and three tacos (either al pastor, fish, or shrimp). The salsa is delicious and smoky, with flecks of charred tomato and peppers throughout. The chips were very thin and perfectly salted, although they were a little stale from the humidity (I remember this from the last time I visited - the chips had a bit of a chew to them instead of being crispy). The tacos were delicious and beautifully presented, with three very generous tacos smothered in cilantro, fresh diced pineapple, and diced onions. Each taco was two corn tortillas filled with delicately seasoned, tender bits of pork. A smoky tomato based sauce was served on the side with a fire roasted bulb onion and jalapeno pepper. The tacos were wonderful! Here's the funny part. I should've been charged $10 - the BRW menu price. However, because I only ordered the tacos al pastor, they charged me $9.90 - quite a deal for a meal and drink! I really enjoyed it, and I'll definitely be back. read more

The tacos here were good, but not great, at least this time around. I think part of that was attributed to me getting them to go and having to wait until I got home to eat them. I think tacos (especially) lose a lot of their flavors when they colder and soggier. I liked the chalupa style taco with the crispy shell, and the al pastor was good with the fresh pineapple. The fish taco was a little dry for me. read more
Yes yes and yes.. the food was deliciously perfect!! The season that are used at this place will make you want to try the entire menu. I have a habit of salting my food before trying it, since 2009 that's been a no no.. I'm so thankful for a husband that teaches me otherwise. This place didn't need a thing, everything was delicious. I can say the reason why I gave a four star because I was not a fan of the ceviche base they used I'm use to the lime base and it was a little to spice for me but hubby creole so he loves everything spice. But go try it guys you want be disappointed. read more

We stopped at Taco Morro while in town for a conference. The food, drinks and service were absolutely phenomenal. I went with the prickly pear margarita. It was the best I've had. The guacamole and salsa were to die for. My coworker and I shared chicken enchiladas and they were fresh and authentic. We were both wishing we could bottle up the restaurant and take it with us back home! read more
As a fan of tacos, I love trying them at different locations all around Birmingham. I was not very fond of Taco Morro Loco tacos, which to me they tasted average when comparing to other locations. This location is the closest to work and I have only been there 2 times since I notice them. I tried the Al Pastor, and Asada. The Al pastor had good seasoning, but I was not liking the pineapples, which tasted like they were from a can. The asada was much better but did not really wowed me. The tacos are full of meat, with a double layer of tortilla, which I was satisfied with on just 2. The tortillas were not too dry which is a plus for me. I have to say that you do get your money worths on this tacos. This is a place I would consider on those cravings days, when I don't feel like driving far. read more
