It was nice enough that we were able to sit outside, which was fun as it sits on a super cute street in Crestline Village. My family talked about how good it is but when I tried it for myself I was blown away! I ordered a pomegranate margarita and a burrito. They have so many options when it comes to fixins for their tacos and burritos (but also have signature ones so you don't have to create one if you don't want). Each meal comes with a side and chips and salsa. I ordered shrimp in my burrito and it was perfectly cooked, so flavorful, and they didn't skimp on the servings, which was so nice! For my side, I ordered guac to go with my chips and it was so fresh! The service was also SO fast, I was shocked! I would highly recommend trying it out! read more

Taco Mama Crestline never disappoints! The food is always fresh and full of flavor, and I love that you can build your own tacos or burrito to get exactly what you're craving. The margaritas are a big draw. They've got fun seasonal options like watermelon and blood orange that are seriously refreshing. Definitely ask for their house-made spicy salt on the rim, it takes the drink to another level. It does get busy, especially after 6pm, so try to go a little early if you want to skip the line. For lunch today, I decided to visit Taco Mama in Crestline Village. When I walked in, I was greeted by the young gal running the register. Spencer guided me through the menu and helped me pick the "Hippie Fisherman" from their selection of burrito baskets. I got mine with Fried Flounder and added the Cilantro Lime Rice and lettuce. On the side, I had their house-made Guacamole and Chipotle Ranch. While waiting for my meal, I noticed how friendly the other staff members were and took note of the restaurant's cleanliness. In the future, I would definitely recommend this to friends and family in the area. read more

I didn't know that this Crestline Village Taco Mama was the "Original" opening in 2011. I have been to other Taco Mamas and this one did not disappoint. This one is located in the Mountain Brook community on Church Street across from the Mountain Brook City Hall. They blend in very well to the vibrant home-style feel of a small town. Outside are several wooden table-benches for extra seating. The interior is about the same size as other Taco Mamas I've been to. Very decorative with lots of local art on their walls and their signature colorful chalk "menus". There are tables and chairs scattered throughout with a large open area that leads to the ordering counter. The lines move pretty fast as their order-takers are well... experts. After ordering my to-go, I took a seat near their soda dispenser. Even on a bustling Friday night, my 3 food orders were done in about 15 minutes! Tammy and Matthew both got the Fat Boy burrito. Tammy picked queso as her side and Matthew the ancho chile slaw. I'm a fan of that slaw too but I opted for the cilantro-lime rice. The Fat Boy is also one of my favorites, but I wasn't in the mood for it that day. They both enjoyed their burritos which was stuffed with grilled steak, cilantro-lime rice, grilled onions, refried beans, extra cilantro, then topped with a red-chile butter sauce. Yom Yom Yom. I opted for my go-to Hippie Fisherman. I usually like to get the Flounder version, but tonight I opted for the shrimp. The burrito also has ancho chile slaw, avocado, tomatoes and their delicious roasted poblano tartar sauce! Yom Yom Yom Yom! There's something special about the way they make their tortillas... they're so soft and delicious. I also have to add that there's something special about their salsa. I just can't get enough of it! Made fresh and spiced just right. Their chips are also one of my favorites. Just the right "thin-ness" since I abhor thick tasteless tortilla chips. The people who work here I suspect are related to owners bc they truly care about this business & it shows ! They go above and beyond to be certain you're happy ! I'm a 60 yr old that eats alone most days and it's easy for me to just fade into background , bc if my age , etc. Tryhh Nope not here they want to make sure that I have fantastic food! I commented on a recent catering they did and how much we loved the lime rice and chicken ( shredded ), she immediately starts suggesting other plates that have this dish in them ! It's rare to see employees LOVE the place they work , so even if they are related to owners it still shows a huge dedication to excellence ! Ha! This is the original Taco Mama location. I don't know how many there are, but they seem to be everywhere. I like Taco Mama, and it's neat to see where it all started. This location is a modest restaurant with their signature casual atmosphere. I think the quality of the food and the value are what makes this chain so successful. That, and their excellent variety of margaritas. My posse and I dined on Wednesday around 8:45 PM. The restaurant was surprisingly busy (it was 15 minutes before closing). Service was good, and we didn't feel rushed. I ordered the Hippie Fisherman basket, and chose grilled shrimp instead of fish. The standard ingredients in this burrito include ancho chile slaw, avocado, tomatoes, roasted poblano tartar. This is a FANTASTIC combination. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The burrito wrap was soft and didn't distract from the fillings. I love the ability to customize, and I added cilantro to my burrito. It was excellent, and I would definitely recommend it. read more

I didn't even realize this Taco Mama existed. I came here to support March for Babies. (This Taco Mama was so kind to donate a portion of its evening proceeds to the upcoming March for Babies event.) I was worried about parking because there's no parking lot to my knowledge, but I was able to find a space within a couple minutes. The restaurant was relatively packed, but we were able to order quickly and we all received our food rather fast. The food was as good as the other Taco Mama locations I've visited. This Taco Mama is not convenient (location wise) to me, but if I'm in the area, I'd probably stop by again. read more

I absolutely LOVE the Taco Mama franchise. I believe this is the original location that started it all! It's sorta hidden among the Mountain Brook boutiques. Parking can be tricky, so I had to park in the lot closer to Miss Dot's. I came for lunch, and there were a lot of people. It wasn't nearly as crowded as the Homewood or Summit location. Thank you Jesus LOL! I got my usual steak burrito bowl. Rice, lettuce, tomato, cheese, queso, avocado, guacamole, and maybe some other toppings I can't remember off the top of my head. Delicious as always! The UAB location seems to ALWAYS leave off 2-3 things I ask for in my bowl so I was quite pleased this location did not! If I ask for avocado and guacamole both.....don't give me just one and think I'll be happy......I want BOTH. You can never have too much avocado! read more

Taco Mama is an incredibly popular fusion taco/burrito chain with over 20 outposts all over the South. This Crestline location is the OG Taco Mama that first opened in 2011. Given that it was a sunny day, we were fortunate to nab a spot at one of the two picnic tables situated out front, where our food quickly made its way after we ordered inside at the counter. The interior of the restaurant was festive and quirky, and there was an enticing margarita list that I made a mental note to sample some day. I went with the "Justice is Served" taco basket, which is hard to beat in terms of value at $10: two medium soft tacos (with grilled shrimp and grilled flounder, respectively), some chips and salsa, and a side (Mexican mac & cheese in my case). The tortillas were stretchy and nicely toasted, and the chunks of flounder in particular were well salted and flavorful with a gentle crust. The shrimp on the other hand was underwhelming, not especially plentiful and overpowered by the finely minced ancho chili slaw. I also wasn't a fan of how the avocado was clumped to one side of both tacos. The chips were thin and salty and the salsa was quite mild, so don't hesitate to reach for that el Yucateco salsa verde. My Mac & cheese was pretty good, but nothing special. It was essentially buttery pasta with sharp cheese in clumps... not sure what was Mexican about it. An enjoyable experience overall with some mixed feelings on the food, outside of the excellent flounder tacos. Also of note, the staff is super chill and nice. read more

I have had Taco Mama on a few occasions in the past. But it was always through their catering. Every time I have had the catering, I have always really enjoyed it. It seems cheap, easy, and most people love tacos! I have always been curious about the rest of their menu and been meaning to come. So after having a night that my wife and I wanted a quick and convenient meal and being given a gift card, we were ready to check it out. The menu set-up can be a little confusing at first glance. So it took us a minute to think it over and decide exactly what we wanted. I went with the Chorizo burrito bowl with lettuce, grilled onions, grilled jalapeños, and chipotle ranch. It was absolutely fantastic. It definitely had a kick to it. So their icy cold beer went down pretty quick. This was a great meal and I look forward to going back. read more

Coming to this restaurant completely made our day. We came in to the restaurant after finding out that our trip to Birmingham was basically ruined because the concert we drove here for got cancelled. The staff were immediately so friendly and helpful. They gave us tons of recommendations for stuff to do in Birmingham and were so kind to us. It really did make our day. I'm not a big fan of standing at a counter to order my meal then take a number and place on my table. Then once I'm finished I'm to throw my paper goods etc... into the trash and staff expects us all to tip. Tips were originally for service above the norm I didn't see cause to tip only my heart inspired me to provide one. I'm regards to their food, I had a large garden salad with chicken with cilantro vinaigrette. It was good not great I would give the salad a 3.5. I also ordered a $9 Chicken Taco. Wow they are proud of their Tacos. For $9 I thought certainly it would be larger than the normal Taco Shell.... Nope. It was filled with lettuce, tomato, cheese little meat. We beat the crowd on a Monday night. Shortly after we arrived it started filling up and had a line for ordering. Not a fancy anniversary dinner; but when it's what she picks, it will do. Chips with Queso to start. The cup was larger than bowls at many other restaurants. Would easily been enough to share with 4 instead of just 2. Just meant more for us and we couldn't let it go to waste. I had the Mix & Match Taco Basket with Mama's Chorizo and Cheezy Beef. Side of Honey Chipotle Corn. Chorizo was pretty spicy for those with a milder taste. I preferred the Barbacoa. Didn't taste the honey flavor on the corn until it was nearly gone and never tasted a chipotle kick. My wife opted for the Justice is Served with grilled shrimp. I don't recall getting to try even though she certainly sampled mine, so it must have been pretty good. The Black Beans side were average. Most definitely will return, probably more often at the Homewood location for lunch since it is close to the office. read more

The decor inside is so much fun and the staff are super sweet at this location in Mt. Brook. Think Chick Fil A employees but slightly older non-high schooler types. Everything here tastes great but is standard issue American Mexican food. The chips are addictive. They don't really have large tables at the location I went to, so just come with a few buddies and no more. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 Stars is it can get super crowded and the Mt. Brook locals are a tad annoying. Think loud soccer moms and rich high schoolers. My sister is a Brookie but I am not and I have a low tolerance for Lululemons, Range Rovers and Kinnucans types of crowds. Maybe I'll give the other locations a shot! read more

I was nervous about eating Mexican food in Alabama but this place did not disappoint! It is a bit of a Tex Mex kind of place but they have good flavor. (I usually avoid places that serve queso dip.) I ordered a chicken and a carnitas taco. They only come in hard or soft shell, not street style like I'm use too so I opted for soft shell. They asked me what I wanted for toppings, this completely confused me but it was a fun experience. I chose chorizo beans, avocado, and their hottest hot sauce. (Usually the tacos back home you choose your meat and they come on two warm corn tortillas with onion, cilantro, and hot sauce.) The chicken tasted wonderful and was juicy. The carnitas was also good. They were huge too! I mean they were more like mini burritos rather than a taco. Although this place isn't traditional Mexican food like I'm use to in California, the flavor is there. If you like spicy, ask for the hottest hot sauce they have. It's green and it's fire! Check them out! I knocked off one star for the rice. It was super bland and watery. Stick to the tacos and you'll be ok! read more

Taco mama is great food at a great value and it comes with great service. There's a reason this place usually has a line out the door. My wife and I love to walk down the hill with our dogs and go here for lunch or dinner, and have a great experience each time. The only negative I'd say is that I haven't met anyone that enjoys their chicken. It isn't an issue with me since I'm a man-child that prefers grown beef over steak and chicken, but it could very well give people the wrong impression. Oh and they have my favorite queso around town. I'll usually drop by and pick up an order of queso if there's a game on that we're having people over for. I love the build your own menu which just allows you to pile on so many flavour coronations and fresh ingredients onto your favourite Mexican feast. I usually go with the nachos because I live to eat with my hands and get s little messy with it. My colleagues often go with the burrito and never have any complaints. There is no table service, you order at the counter so take a few mins to study the menu before ordering. There is a little outdoor seating which is prime real estate in a sunny day but otherwise there is seating indoors. Depending on the time of day it can get very busy so you may have to wait fir a table. Despite this the food always comes out quickly. The inconvienece is worth it because the food and drinks are worth it! I tend to get the burritos, I've tried them all, but like to make my own at the end of the day. This has become of my new Birmingham favorites! While the Crestline location is on the small side, we've always managed to get a table once we ordered (and maybe waited briefly). I'm a big fan of the burritos. My husband loves the tree hugger as he's on a vegetarian kick. I decided to try The Judge on this visit and I enjoyed it more than the Big Client. I'm a sucker for queso--so that's always my side. My kids are following in my footsteps and they're pretty happy just eating chips and sharing a cup of queso. Margaritas are tasty. I forgot they had the jalapeño one and decided to get the house margarita--not my favorite. My husband got the pomegranate one and I definitely preferred it. While there are are a few other texmex places I like in town, this is by far one of my most favorite. So glad to have Taco Mama close by! read more

I stopped by Taco Mama around 5PM on a Wednesday. It looks dark in there, but it has some nice tables on the sidewalk outside. When I entered, the staff cheerfully greeted me and handed me a menu. I talked with the cashier about the different options and he was very helpful and friendly. There were plenty of tables and it was comfortable to sit there. The meal came quickly. I had an ahi tuna taco and a grouper taco, with a side of mac & cheese. There were also plenty of chips and a little salsa. It was nice that they put some tartar sauce on the side. The cashier suggested a number of veggies (guacamole, lettuce, etc.), and all seemed fresh. It all was good and well presented. The total cost of the meal with a drink was $17, which I think is on the high side of what I want to pay for a Mexican meal. read more

I like how the queso dip is "soupy" but in a good way and their chips are light and thin. My only problem would be flies. If you choose to sit outside you end up sharing your food with at least 3 flies. Taco Mama probably can't do anything impactful about the flies but they can be a nuisance. Absolute all time favorite go-to in Birmingham. If you're lucky enough to have one near by and you've never been, GO! Don't wait another minute. Cool employees, great atmosphere, always fresh food. I've never had a bad experience and I've been going for years. I recommend the "Mix & Match Tacos" -- order a Justice is Served with shrimp and a Sizzler steak taco. They are both amazing.
