Not exactly sure how this restaurant has declined so much but I am greatly disappointed. I ordered a lunch to-go because I was in a rush today. I ordered my usual two taco lunch with rice and beans. I also added an extra taco. I prefer the hard tacos yet received two soft tacos. The third taco was not a taco at all- it was a bunch of corn soft tacos drenched in grease wrapped in aluminum foil. The beans were so runny like too much water was added to thin them out. The rice was hard and flavorless. Yuck! I called to bring this to their attention and the reception I received was beyond unprofessional and they hung up on me. Needless to say I brought the food right back to them- to their dismay- I showed them the order. When she acknowledged her mistake I turned around and left. Never to return. Ever! The point is that I merely wanted to bring this to their attention. I used to go there frequently. I was not looking for a comp, nor a replacement. I had already been turned off by the food- why would I desire a replacement? Not all people are out for a free meal. As a food critic, I do not play influencer looking for freebies. He is the life of the party and always so accommodating. Whether it be the ceviche, the chicken wings or their baked potato you can't go wrong with anything on their menu. Chips/Salsa was good. Probably the best part of lunch... that and the lunch menu is very reasonably priced (and offered Monday-Saturday). House Margarita - very sweet. Almost undrinkable. Taco Salad - missing the beans. Ground beef lacked seasoning, shredded chicken was better Lunch special #4 - the chili relleno was was mush and the taco shell was from a box, not made fresh; the rice and beans were very tasty All-in-all, we won't hurry back. My husband found this place a few weeks ago. He first got me fajita nachos. I devoured those so sadly...no picture. A few days ago, I was craving fish and he remembered seeing a whole fish on their menu so he bought it for me. It was cooked very well. I just wish it was a bit more seasoned. Went for a Saturday lunch and we were the first ones in the door. Caught them a little off guard. Service was very good but not friendly at all. When we went to pay, the lady at the counter took our card, ran it, did not wait for it to go through and walked away. She never came back, no one else did either. Could not get a receipt. Now, on to the food. Mexican guacamole was amazing to start. Wife had her usual stuffed chili peppers, she said it was good but way too much cheese. She also said it was mushy. I had the enchiladas supreme. Came with 3 chicken Enchiladas and should have been 1 chicken with a cheese and a beef. They were good though. Quick and easy and right off the interstate. Very clean, lots of seating. Quick service. Standard Mexican fare with a big menu so lots of options. Something for everyone. I tried a chimichanga and had the chorizo tacos. Both good, but the chorizo tacos were the best. Also had a chorizo dip which came out in a big portion and had a lot of meat it in. One of the better one's I've had. Would definitely order again. Prices were good, people were friendly. Service was prompt. A good option in the area for fast, predictable Mexican food. This restaurant recently opened off Morgan Road where The Board Room used to be. Apparently this is their 3rd location. They are still waiting on their liquor license so if you are craving a margarita, you might want to wait a few weeks. They still have a few kinks to work out but I have a feeling once they do, this will be a great addition to the area. Chips and salsa for the table were really good. Ask for the green salsa if you like more heat. It adds heat and good flavor. I got the chicken fajita bowl at the recommendation of my server. You can pick your protein if you'd rather have something other than chicken. Everything ordered looked good. Prices are affordable. They have a good lunch menu. i took my son her on 6/9/2025 for lunch on his birthday ( first time visiting) i had the shrimp chimachunga . I skipped breakfast so i would have room for lunch with my son . this was the only thing i ate yesterday and i had food poisoning. I'm home missing work today from this food . i know it was food poisoning i got back to work and a hour later i was sweating and vomiting and defecating . I really feel that many of the Tex-Mex restaurants in the area have significantly declined over the last few years. We'd heard that El Comal was really good so we gave it a try. The highs: much better food quality than many similar restaurants in the area. Some unique menu items. Reasonable prices. Good drink specials. Daily happy hour. Friendly service. Some of the best salsa I've had (a little spicer than most which I like but may be a bit much for some kids). No really bad lows. Decor is very dated. And you can't really order al la carte which one of our kids usually does. At least, it's not on the menu that way. Overall, I highly recommend for your "cheap Mexican" fix. read more

I've had better. There is a place in Hueytown that makes the best Mexican spaghetti I've ever had. It was just ok. The pasta needs to be al dente. Over done pasta is a huge no no with me. I will come back but I will request that the pasta be al dente. Also sour cream on top. read more

Tried this relatively new Mexican place tonight and was pleasantly surprised. The hostess was pleasant, the place was busy but not overly crowded. Our waiter was awesome and the food, well it was very good. Everything tasted fresh and cooked to order. The fajitas were perfectly seasoned and plentiful. The cheese dip was hot and chips were warm and thin/crispy. I can't think of anything that would have made this dining experience any better. Definitely coming back soon! read more

I've actually been here twice , the first time was for lunch the food was a typical Americanized Mexican food with tacos , burritos , enchiladas not much different than a hundred other places , this time I had dinner and ordered the Beef Fajitas, it. came with rice and beans a little salad , first the chips aren't very good , very hard not much of a taste , but the salsa at least had some kick to it , then the fajitas came and were well seasoned but even though they were cut in thin strips (trying to hide the fact it's similar to leather shoe laces) we're still very tough and chewy, the portion was huge but I'd rather had less meat that was tender , I realize the price was only $14 but I'd rather pay $20 and have a decent cut of beef , so after eating a little of the tough chewy meat I just ate my beans and bite or two of the rice , need to get that kitchen in shape and or make a decision on either serving decent beef or start packing your things up for your next location because it's only a matter of time , I think there are too many choices of food in this area to serve mediocre meals , ( that's being nice) if I want awful I'll just go across the street and eat a Philly cheese steak at arby's . I been spoiled all my life enjoying the Chili Riaño as made in the Southwest with a Poblano or Anaheim Pepper. Since relocating to Alabama I learned to check my Chili Riaño order. My first visit to El Comal included a Chili Riaño and it was made with a Poblano. My second visit's order produced a Bell Pepper Chili Riaño. After my inquiry El Comal replaced my Bell Pepper with an uncooked, unskinned, Poblano and the hamburger sauce smelled like it turned. Then they charged me an extra $3.50 to replace the Bell Pepper. I paid my bill and shall never return. read more
