I've only been to Taco Mana a handful of times and the food is good. I got the Jorge nachos with ground beef and unlimited toppings. They have a really good jalapeño margarita that hits the spot every time. Love the spice it gives. Staff was friendly and helpful with items on their menu. I frequently eat at Taco Mama and always have a great experience! All the servers are so friendly and attentive to customers. The inside is laid back and fun and the food is delicious. I usually order a build your own salad, but I venture out from time to time. The salads are hugeee and leave me with leftovers for the next day (I add just about every topping offered). The food always comes out very fast even though Taco Mama seems to always be busy. There's plenty to choose from or build on menu making it great for both picky and adventurous eaters! read more

I hate to give it 3 stars because I want to love this place but it just didn't do it for me. I had the steak (sizzler) and fish (justice) tacos, with slaw and street corn as the sides. Frankly I've just had much better and everything had a sort of pre-prepared, grocery store feel to it. Steak wasn't a Mexican style skirt steak, nor was it very flavorful and the fried fish had to have come out of a bag, not a fresh beer battered fish that you expect. I know what you're thinking... Taco Mama? Please. But just give it a chance. Is it the most authentic? No. Is it the best ambiance? Probably not. But is it an incredibly solid meal with sizable portions at an affordable price? Yes, absolutely. I love that every time I order here the food is consistently good. I get a classic beef taco, because nostalgia and it never misses. The shrimp quesadilla and any of the nachos are a crowd pleaser as well, but bring your appetite. The nachos are huge! I love that they get you in and out pretty quickly even when the line looks long and daunting. Everyone really likes the flexibility of customizing the toppings on your tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc. I love guacamole so I try to remember to include it. The margarita options are wonderful. On this visit we split a pitcher of the La Playa. Pineapple and coconut ingredients give this margarita a touch of the tropics. I ordered the Fatboy Burrito for dinner. It was good, but the ingredients were not evenly distributed. My first bite I got nothing but a mouth full of flour tortilla. On the back end, all I had was retried beans and flour tortillas.. The middle was right, but to earn my five stars rating they need better attention to this detail. Service was good. Came here for lunch with a friend. The girl at the door explained the menu to us so that was really nice since I had never been there before. I decided to order the big boy which is a burrito with steak, refried beans, rice, and supposedly a bunch of other stuff. The burrito came with chips, salsa, and a side. I picked queso as my side. I was excited to try the blood orange margarita but was told it was no longer in season even though it was still on the board. Disappointing. I ordered a pomegranate one instead. My meal came out really fast so that was nice. The pomegranate margarita was really good. I would definitely get that again. My burrito was disappointing. Despite everything in it, it really lacked flavor. It was very bland. Chips and salsa were good and queso was very good as well. My friend got a shrimp bowl and said it was really good. I came in here mainly because it was convenient to my hotel and secondly I was referred to this place by a client. Overall, the food is along the lines of a Chipotle do they serve alcohol. So honestly you really can't go wrong with that combination. Service was very good unfriendly. The food was pretty good. They offer unlimited toppings so you can get rather inventive. I chose the hot tomatillo salsa for my sauce on top of it and I did enjoy it. They also have several hot sauces on each table to spice things up a bit more. I also noticed and appreciated the fact that they had hand sanitizer on every table as an added safety measure during covid-19. I would return and maybe next time I will try a drink while I'm here. I was super excited for this Taco Mama to open. I've visited a few times since its opening. It is always busy. I have not dined in. I get my food to go. The staff is pleasant and they do wear masks. The food is delicious! This is one of my favorite places to get burrito bowls and soft tacos. Their drinks are good, too. Everything I eat from here tastes like fresh ingredients are used. The line can go out the door but moves quickly and there's lots to choose from on the menu and typically someone from the restaurant standing by the front handing out paper menus and answering questions about the menu. I spoke with their corporate staff and the watermelons for making this margarita are tasted for authenticity. They make sure the watermelons they use are top tier for whipping up this cocktail . Not perfect, but these guys are really solid. What I really appreciate about the Taco Mama brand is that there is consistency from location to location. They honestly seem to care about the customer base. They provide the same quality experience from location to location. This was my first visit to this location and it had the same look and feel as the other three I have been to. Order at the counter .... find a seat ... they bring food out to you when it's ready. This location was actually the fastest of all of them. Food was at the table in less than two minutes. They were actually relatively crowded too! The employees definitely work as a team here. If they see something that needs to get done they get on it. Really well ran business. The food was good, I had the bowl with rice, barbacoa, jalapenos, black olive, cilantro, pico, tomato and cheese. Flavors were great. Ingredients were fresh. Very disappointed with service. Eat here every couple weeks with no issue of grabbing a seat if our toddler starts having a meltdown standing in line too long. Today, however, we were not allowed to sit when the only 1 line to order was not moving causing to stand for 10min which for a 2yr old is an eternity. So she started crying in the doorway lying on the ground still not allowed to sit at one of the many 10+ tables open. Not eating at this location again. Was working at the coffeeshop next door and stopped at Taco Mama for lunch. It's an interesting spot -- fairly extensive menu so it's built for someone who wants everything they can think of vs. someone who wants very minimal ingredients. I just did a build-you-own burrito with some chips and guac. Didn't get anything out of the ordinary -- steak, rice, beans, lettuce, salsa, cheese, sour cream, and queso. I think people in Birmingham swear by it and rejoice everytime a Taco Mama chain pops up in their area, but as an outsider to the state of Alabama as a whole, it was nothing to write home about. Burrito was soggy, but I guess you could blame me for putting queso and sour cream in it. The integrity of the thing didn't hold up since the tortilla was so thin. I also didn't really want to make a decision on a side and so the employee picked the chips and guac for me since that was the most popular side -- again, nothing to write home about. OK food, good prices, and a cool spot in the plaza that they're in. Other than that, I might have to go back for redemption and put new things in my burrito. read more

I have had a terrible experience the last two times I have been to this establishment. On the first bad experience I created my own bowl. They gave me too much wet beef protein with very little of the other toppings I ordered. It looked like someone had stepped in my bowl. The second time I ordered cilantro lime rice and they put the cilantro and lime on top of the sweet corn I ordered. It was so nasty looking. This time the beef was extremely dry. I love Taco Mama, so any chance I get to stop by one of their locations I do. My go to is the build your own meal and I normally do the build your own burrito bowl. This time I got my meal for Togo. The wait time was minimal and the food was delicious. Oh yes and the portion size was very plentiful. You really get the bang for your buck. The decor of the restaurant is unique and nicely done. Customer service is always great whenever I come as well. I'm waiting for the day when Alabaster, AL will get a location so it will be closer to my home area. read more

Chicken is literally crock pot shredded Chicken. If you order beef/steak, you get an infant sized portion and it tastes dry and bland. I don't get the hype over this place. Wanted to try so decided to get the Happy Family box and was really disappointed. First of all, the quanity of food for $60 was ridiculous. That's 12 tiny tacos for $60 with chips and salsa. I should've known it would be a total ripoff and it was. How they say this thing is for 4-6 people is beyond my comprehension, unless they mean 4-6 kids. Second of all, the taste of the meat was meh, really, not good. The beef was dry and crumbly with very little flavor. The flavor that was there tasted like liquid smoke or something very artificial. The chicken, while moist white meat, was just sad and bland. The fixings were OK, except the cheese, which was clearly pre-shredded, dry and flavorless. For $60, they should have something more authentic than dry mild cheddar. Also, wish they would've included some lettuce. I did find the chips and salsa to be good, with the chips being the better of the 2. The black beans also had a good flavor. Those were the only 2 positives of the entire meal. Will not go back to waste more money on bad food. This was a take out order so I don't have anything to say about the service or ambiance, but the people on the phone were nice and helpful. read more

BEST taco mama location hands down! From the second I walk in the door I'm welcomed by a fun, bustling atmosphere and a smiling staff! The menu is super customizable, and an employee is always there to help w/ recommendations and their favorite toppings. Personally I love the justice is serviced tacos w/ grilled flounder and the sizzler w/ steak. Anything grilled is always cooked just right! And the sriracha slaw is a super underrated topping- definitely try. Don't even get me started about the margs... I recommend the skinny marg but the Paloma is an off-menu secret that is quickly becoming my new fave. By the time you're finished ordering your food and drinks at the front, your marg is at the bar waiting for you. The bartenders don't mess around!! And by the time you sit down, chips and dip is headed your way. I've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes for my meal. Again, consistently quick service across the board. Ask for Alex, Brisia, or Ms. T and you'll be taken care of!!! Great management team that knows what they're doing and will instantly have you coming back for more.
