Ambiance is intimate and beautiful. The table seating is uniquely crafted seats and tables. The booth seating is also quite luxurious. I loved the extensiveness of the menu. I haven't been to a dine-in Mexican place for dinner in a long time but giving Iguana Grill a chance was an extremely good decision. The interior is gorgeous and clean, overall a very family-friendly place that I will definitely bring my own family back to in the future. The food was exactly what I wanted- warm and comforting. The burrito pictured wasn't my order, but the few bites I had were decadent and to die for. Not to mention the SIZE on that bad boy! Super good for the price. The fish I got was tad bit dry but the sauce it was paired with made up for that entirely. We were wanting to try something different than our go to restaurants for Cinco de Mayo and were not disappointed. It was busy of course but we were greeted, seated and fed promptly & efficiently. We started with the guacamole and chips. Very fresh and flavorful. I'm normally a beef burrito kinda girl but wanted something different and went with the shrimp burrito. My husband had the pork carnitas. Both were very good but his dish was so tender & flavorful. Portion sizes were ample & the fresh pico really enhanced the dishes. Ok so we have not been here in quite awhile. In August 2023 the Iguana Grill got a 70 from the health department during an inspection. Usually I don't pay attention to these things but a 70 is almost .....you know .....closing time........ so we decided to stay away from my favorite smoked salsa and grilled chicken salad until last night. The new inspection rating is 98 given in October 2023 so we took a chance. The food was good and we did not see any blatant violations so they have cleaned up the issues listed on the Jefferson County health Department website site. The only issue we had was a server in training. She handed my husband and I an extra plate (?of tortillas) . As my husband was unwrapping the foil to figure out what it was the server training the new server swooped in and grabbed them from his hand and said they were not for us and took them to the kitchen???? That was rude ......and who are you going to serve those to since it has been opened???? The right thing to do was leave it and suck up the mistake . Other than that the place is still fun and bright and full of good food!!!!! read more

Incredible Mexican cuisine! Great queso, salsa and chips. I'm addicted to the number 10 on the lunch menu. Marinated sirloin strips folded into a flour tortilla and covered with queso, served with beans and rice. The marinade the steak is prepared in gives the most incredible flavor. Decided to give it a try for lunch based on reviews on yelp before my office moves. I so wish I had come sooner. I will now be sad that I won't be able to go on a regular basis. I had the lunch special Chicken Quesadilla with Rice and Beans. Other than the bottom of the quesadilla becoming a little moist due to the juiciness of the chicken, it was one of the better quesadillas I have had. Chicken was flavorful and definitely not dry, plenty of ooey gooey cheese and nice crisp flour tortilla without being to done. The rice and beans were average. Not bad, but nothing special. I have to start off this review by saying you MUST try a Sangria-Rita! You just have to! The medium sized is $12 and it's worth every penny! Needless to say, I definitely enjoyed myself at Iguana Grill today. I went with a group of about 8 of my co-workers. We decided to take advantage of their Happy Hour, which starts at 3 PM. Our waiter, Roberto, was so nice and attentive. I tried the cheese dip with chorizo added and it was delicious. I enjoy coming to this place. The people are very nice and it is very clean. They make sure you have plenty and keep you drinks full. I had the fajita chimichanga and it was delicious. I usually get plain chicken but after this, I'm sticking with the fajita chicken. It was packed with grilled onions, peppers and seasoned grilled chicken. Then they fried it golden brown and topped it with some great cheese dip. The rice was fluffy and not dry. The beans weren't soupy and had a great flavor. I order the Quesadilla Supreme and a Peach flavor margarita. My waiter was nice he helped me get what I wanted correctly since this was my first time. It was very empty but the scenery was very pretty, I waited about 2 mins for my drink and food came in about 10 mins. The restaurant had a festive atmosphere on Saturday night. It was crowded with families, couples, and groups. We had called ahead for reservations because we had a party of 21. The restaurant staff was accommodating, and they had our table set up before we arrived. Our waitress did an excellent job of keeping track of six different tabs even though we were seated randomly. And, the kitchen was able to manage our large order. Our food was delivered together, and in a timely manner. I had the Filete de Pescado and thought it was good. This dish is a grilled tilapia filet that is topped with a chipotle cream sauce. The filet was a huge portion and cooked just right. The sauce was rich, and made with corn, onions, and mushrooms. A small scoop of rice and a guacamole salad are served with it. The guacamole was excellent, it was fresh and tasty. In addition to the familiar Mexican dishes, Iguana offers authentic dishes that you might not find at other restaurants in the city. It's like a scene from "Encanto" - such a beautiful restaurant! I ate here with coworkers after an all day planning meeting and we had a terrific time! The food was very good though prices are quite high for a typical Mexican combo ($15 for three enchiladas). The quality is quite good but not quite THAT good. With that said, I'll definitely go back for the atmosphere and the chunky salsa ;). Four out of five stars for a beautiful restaurant with pricey food that was pretty good. This place is my favorite "Fancy" Mexican food in the greater Birmingham area. It is hidden in the corner of a strip mall, but don't let that fool you. From the time that you walk in you know that this is going to be a great experience. The decor in this place is AMAZING. There is so much to look at and I find something new on the walls each time I visit. The girls at the table all ordered the sangria-ritas. This is a red sangria mixed with margarita. Get it with the frozen margarita and you won't regret it. The drink goes down maybe a little too well; I'm glad I had a designated driver :) We always start out with some guacamole and queso. The guacamole has a whipped texture, and it is delicious. Hands down, my favorite guac. The queso is also very good. Good flavor and thick, not watered down like others that I have had before. For this trip I got the chicken quesadilla meal that came with rice and beans. It was tasty and definitely hit the spot on Cinco de Mayo.
