Two Pesos Cantina is my hometown favorite restaurant. The main reason that I keep going back is the food but also the service. The restaurant is very welcoming and shows off the Hispanic origins of the restaurant. Two Pesos has an extensive menu that serves people with many dietary needs. Ranging from vegetarian options to shrimp and fish options for pescatarian diets. The service here is very fast and the food comes out very fast as well. I ordered chicken tortilla soup and the elote. Naturally, the elote comes to the table first. This dish is basically corn on the cob but with mayonnaise, cotija cheese, and tajin on the top. This may sound very basic but for all the ones I have tried this one makes me always come back for more! Next, the chicken tortilla soup. This soup is also pretty basic as well, but it comforts me every time I get it. Next time you are in the Pelham area, do not be scared to give them a try. read more

Haven't been here for a couple years and remember why.... A large group of us went for Cinco De Mayo to listen to a band of one of our friends. The establishment was clean and not overly loud when we arrived at 4:00. Not busy at all, but did take a while for a hostess to greet us and seat us. Odd for only a couple patrons already seated. We sat outside to enjoy the music.... Obviously got loud once the band started and that's ok as we were here for them. Service was a little slow, even when he o my had two or three tables to attend to. The margaritas were good and refreshing. We started with guacamole and the presentation was different... a perfect mound plated rather than a bowl. It was lacking seasonings as it was very bland. Now my mistake was ordering puffy shrimp tacos. Never heard of them so gave them a try. The shrimp was good, but the rest of the taco was tasteless. Dinner was served with rice and beans, both cold. Would I go back? Maybe just for a frozen peach margarita, but not to eat. So, probably not. read more

Stopped here for lunch after a hike at Oak Mountain Started off with a margarita on the rocks. Delicious. Service was a little slow, but we had lots to talk about in our hiking group. Food was great. The service was not good and took forever to get our checks. I got charged for 3 different types of taxes and they put automatic gratuity on me and my friends checks. 2 Pesos has been a favorite of ours since we moved to the Shelby county area more than a decade ago. It was originally housed in an old building behind the O'Charleys on 119 in Pelham, but when ocharleys closed, they took over the building and made it their own. My two favorite things to get here are the Quesadilla Abierta Tres Quesos and the Goat Cheese and Chorizo quesadilla. The QATQ is an open quesadilla topped with a grilled portobello mushroom, steak strips, spring greens, vinaigrette, 3 cheeses and green salsa poured over a teepee made of fried tortilla triangles. It's a lot going on, but it's AMAZING! It's filling without being heavy and I can't recommend it enough. Last time I went was with my book club, and everyone enjoyed their meals. This was my first time at 2 pesos for dinner. I usually go for lunch. We shared the guacamole Mexicano at the table. It's my favorite appetizer. The elote was ok. What a rude place with servers that either can not speak very good English or they do not care to even be there and working. I sat at the bar and the server comes up to me and ask me what do I want? I'm like I never been here as I was visiting from out of town. I had to ask for a menu. Then had to also ask if they have Happy Hour. The happy hour is also very confusing because it's not listed very clearly and it's not much of a happy hour only frozen Margaritas and beer. They do not say when lunch ends on the menu either. You have to ask about that too. For it to be not busy when I showed up they acted like I was an inconvenience for coming into the place. I ordered my food it came out wrong and not what I wanted again because of the language barrier. If you want to have cheap drinks I say check it out but I will not be returning again. read more

My wife and I have been to 2 Pesos many times and are continually impressed with the variety of menu options that are available. Not only are their basic Mexican dishes good, but they have a wide selection of other choices that are equal quality. For starters, we really like their salsa (hearty & chunky with some kick but not hot), queso and guacamole Mexicali (lots of fresh, chunky ingredients piled high - definitely sharable!). For entrees, we like the chimichangas, kabobs, sizzling fajitas, and all of their grilled shrimp dishes. They also have several more unique dishes that are really tasty - open faced red pepper with shrimp, carnitas, and grilled shrimp salad (with goat cheese, pecans, strawberries and jicama). The service is solid not stellar, but the food is worth it every time we visit. And in the evenings, we love the covered outdoor seating with ceiling fans - a great relaxed setting even if a little lacking in ambience. read more

We walked outside to go grab a burger but smelled something better, so we walked over to this place and unfortunately they were not open to sit inside the restaurant because of the Covid-19 restrictions on restaurants. Staying at a local hotel and got carry out from 2 Pesos. Delicious and plentiful! Mexican can be tricky, as it doesn't always stay warm. It was still perfect even after we got it back to our rooms. Chips are light, crisp and fresh, with a sauce that is pleasantly chunky and mildly hot. My husband got a huge portion of fajitas. They could have been a bit spicier, but otherwise we're great. My carnitas were excellent. Tender and flavorful with the nice, crunchy edges that you expect from great carnitas. The guacamole that they serve along side is excellent and I love that they serve jalapeño peppers with the side salad. This was a great choice on the road. If we lived here, we'd definitely be back! Took my girlfriend there for lunch. What a train wreck! Ordered top shelf margaritas and received nothing but mix in a glass sent back for beers. Food then came and it wasn't impressive either. I've eaten better at a Loves truck stop. And our server Enrique came and went and went and went and I had to take my check to the desk to pay. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Food sucks! This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. We've never had bad service or a bad meal here, and I'm comfortable bringing visitors from out of town knowing that it will be a good experience. First, the salsa, the staple of fine Mexican restaurants in the U.S. and a good gauge for how the meal will go. Dos Pesos has excellent salsa, and the chips are never stale. I don't know if they make it themselves, but if they did and canned it, I'd buy it. They have a good selection of beers and a full bar along with a Margarita menu. Some weeks, you just earned a margarita. They have a widely varied menu, and I've ordered a lot of different things. My favorite is the carnitas hacienda, because who doesn't like slow-cooked pork butt? I also love the camarones a la diabla, the pechuga a la parrilla. My wife and I will also order the Al Molcajete for 2, which is a large bowl with a bunch of grilled goodies and a fun treat. Really enjoyed this Mexican restaurant. It has the classic items that everybody likes and honestly I feel like it had ALL of the top rated dishes that you could want at a Mexican restaurant. The queso was flavorful and the right thickness. The chips were warm, thin, crispy, and perfectly salted! Their salsa was also very good and you can ask for a side of extra spicy salsa if you'd like to mix in with their house if you want to kick it up a notch. I had the burrito supreme and shared it with my other half. It was plenty for the two of us. The chicken was very tender and flavorful plus it was covered in queso (always a plus). We were seated without any utensils or plates which was kind of awkward when our food arrived because we all had to wait to ask somebody for silverware and napkins but other than that the night was smooth and I will definitely be back! read more

THE best Mexican place ever. Well, everything except their beef. But still! Their chicken is the best Mexican food I've ever tasted, for one. I get El Uno every time.
