When I say this was my first time but not last time here. The food and drinks were so good. We had the room upstairs for a private bday gathering and the two waitresses Liz/Biaz were on their jobs with service. The restroom was very clean, too. I love the music and they have inside/outside seating.
Social Taco hit the spot! I enjoyed my food and the atmosphere. The service was great and I highly recommend the elote (street corn) and their tacos!
I decided to come here on a Saturday because I saw on their website that they had happy hour every day from 3 PM to 6 PM. To my dismay when I got there and asked the server about the happy hour specials he told me that they stopped doing it on the weekends. I was a little disappointed. I ended up getting a frozen espresso that was very delicious. The elite was yummy as well. I got some sort of a steak bowl however, the steak was a little chewy. It's right in the downtown of Homewood where there's other restaurants around as well. There is plenty of free parking. The restaurant is decorated very nice and the bathrooms were very clean. I'm definitely gonna come back here during the week so I can enjoy happy hour. Justin was our server and he was fabulous!
I have to admit when I first visited Social Taco was when it first opened, and I really wasn"t impressed. It was expensive and you didn't get a lot of food. The only reason, I went back was because we won a gift card at a fundraiser. My recent visit was totally different! It was a great experience and I'm really glad I gave Social Taco a second chance. I started the night off with their strawberry coconut mocktail. It was amazing!! Next we ordered a side of the charro beans as an appetizer to dip the chips in. I highly recommend doing this. The combo was great. We also ordered the Mexican street corn as an appetizer. We thought it would be off the cob, and were planning to also use it as a dip with the chips. But, it came out as four cobs. It still was really good, but I was glad we ordered the beans. For my main meal, I ordered the Grilled Cheese Al Pastor Pork Tacos! So delicious. My favorite part was the grilled cheese crusted corn tortillas and the grilled pineapple. The pastor pork, was also good with the cilantro, onion & smokey morita salsa. I can't wait to go back!
Not my cup of tea when it comes to Mexican food. Their street corn was strange . I was not aware Mayo was Mexican. And so much seasoning I could not enjoy the corn. Thankfully they gave us plenty of napkins for wipping. Unfortunately we were seated at that one 2 top by the restrooms and waiter station. So I can't say much about the ambiance as I had my back to everything. I ordered a steak burrito without rice. When I got it it was mostly black beans with about 2 Oz of steak rolled it a tortilla. I am not impressed by their food or pitiful beer selection.
Love this place!! My go to is always the chicken al pastor bowl & the street corn is delicious! The service has been nice every time I've visited, during both busy hours as well as ordering to go at the bar. It's a casual, upbeat restaurant!
I came here recently with a friend for happy hour. When we got there, it was a line. However, it moved by so quickly and we were told we would have a small wait. The hostess was very nice and courteous. So we went to sit at the bar. Our bartender was super helpful and made great recommendations. So we gave up our table and stayed at the bar. We ended up ordering drinks and food. We ordered chicken feathers, Mexican pizza with steak and loaded street fries. The food was great. Each order was a great amount of food for the price. The fries were so good and while they were loaded, it was the right balance. The Mexican pizza was packed with flavor, but not overwhelming. It was also light and not thick. It almost felt like one huge steak taco. It was so good and definitely the star for me. The chicken feathers were also well seasoned. The margaritas were also good and strong. They pack a nice punch! I really enjoyed my visit and need to make it part of my regular happy hour rotation.
My friend and me came to Social Taco to check out their happy hour (on a Friday). We arrived with like 30 mins left before happy hour ended. I'm soooo glad we spotted two seats at the bar as it was going to be a 30 min wait for a table. No thanks. Happy hour would have been over by then. Hannah was our server at the bar. She did an amazing job in getting our space cleaned off and taking our drink/ food orders within the HH window. We started with chips and salsa. I really like how crispy their chips were and the salsa was the perfect thickness and flavor! We ordered house margaritas to drink . They were ok. I prefer frozen margaritas so I ordered a strawberry frozen marg. for my 2nd drink and it was enjoyable and more tasty. We ordered 3 HH apps..... chicken feathers , asada Mexican pizza and loaded fries. The portions were perfect for sharing annnnnnnd we even had leftovers to split. My favorite of the three was probably the loaded fries. The Mexican pizza lacked flavor and the chicken feathers (chicken bites) were almost burnt. Overall , this was worth the visit. Great service, great value, good food , cold drinks ! Definitely one of the better HH in town!
The happy hour here is awesome! 1/2 price apps and drinks from 3-6 daily. The blood orange pomegranate margarita was my favorite but we also got queso, quesadilla nachos, spring rolls, elote, and ranch water! Tons of other options on the menu sounded great, too. There is a parking structure attached to the building that was super easy to get in and out of and saved us from trying to search for street parking. Overall the food was fine, but the ambiance of sitting outside on a beautiful day having great drinks is what made our experience so nice. Also, with happy hour pricing we got 4 apps and 6 drinks for about 60 bucks. That's hard to beat.
Best happy hour I've been to in a while! The bartenders are tons of fun! They have happy hour drinks and food! We give happy hour food and drinks!
Go go go to the bottomless tapas!!! The server was great! Food came out very fast. Server was very open about encouraging us to order as much as we wanted. The food was FANTASTIC! 30$ for tapas and 40$ for tapas and mimosas. Try the Bloody Mary too! Ambiance is fun and upbeat!
Great food selection! This was my first time here so I had to mix and match tacos. I had the Al Pastor, BWB chicken, and Pescado. All were good, but to do again, I may do two Al Pastor's. It had a wedge of pineapple that added some really good flavor! I had the Guac and my side was elote! The elote may have been my favorite. Perfectly cooked and just the right portion, highly recommend this. Service was quick! I was a party of one during a non peak time, but I was amazed how quick my Guac and tacos hit the table. Ambiance was fun. Very much wish I was there at night to see the vibe of this place. If I'm back in town, I'll definitely make this a place for dinner!
"The Menu Has Changed"... Service: A- (shouldn't have to ask for a drink refill but polite staff) Food: B- The old menu was better... (carne asada was tough and dry, street corn is AMAZING, the burger is a different take on your average "burger") Alcoholic Drinks: C+ (Dinks here tend to be hit or miss but are usually on the heavy pour side which makes life better) Cleanliness: B (Tables still look dirty even after being "wiped down" but regularly swept floors) Atmosphere: B- (Well themed but seating is cramped and uncomfortable) Overall Impression: For a local "Tex-Mex restaurant" that isn't a chain, Social Taco is impressive in its own right. Food and flavor is light years ahead of other local restaurants and you get the feeling that the staff really is customer focused. Some nights seating can be at a premium but there is a host stand as soon as you walk in vs having to seat yourself.
My friend and I went to Social Taco for an early lunch. It's located in Homewood in a cute courtyard. Shortly after we were seated, chips and salsa were brought to our table. The chips were seasoned well and the salsa was fresh. We had good service, but we could tell our server was new. He was a little slow and we had to repeat ourselves a few times, but he made an effort to do his best job. The menu has a lot of unique options and I had a hard time narrowing down what I wanted to order. I ended up ordering the Gringa Bonita salad, and it was really fresh. The chicken was cooked well and the portion was large. My friend is gluten free and she ordered a quesadilla. Our waiter took her gluten allergy very seriously and checked with the kitchen multiple times to answer her questions and reassure her. We also ordered queso and it was delicious. Overall, we had great experience and the food was delicious! read more

I got the taco trie. Traditional Chicken, Shrimp, and Birria. Great flavor profile on all three. Corn was a solid side. Service was great as well. Our service was great with suggestion and quick to return to the table. read more

Three words... BOTTOMLESS. TAPAS. BRUNCH. Social Taco just started their bottomless tapas brunch and yall it is my new go-to for brunch. For just $39 you can have unlimited mimosas and as many tapas as you want! I was so surprised by how many food options were on the menu but what I wasn't surprised about was how good it was! The birria ramen was out of this world but the meatballs were a table favorite. We ordered a lot of food but we will definitely be going back to try everything we didn't get a chance to! It's such a good deal and the food is phenomenal. We sat outside so it was nice and relaxing and the service was great. The food arrived quickly! read more

I went to social taco for the first time last Friday. I was not impressed. The restaurant was pretty packed which is perfectly fine with me. But the tables are extremely close. You can not get by without almost bumping them. The food was mediocre in my opinion. I got the pastor torta and my boyfriend got one of the shrimp bowls. The pastor was not good in my opinion and he was not happy with his portion size. I did love the fries. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I made lunch plans with a friend and wanted to give Social Taco another try. I have heard such good reviews. So I went back again. The second time around was much better. I got the mix and match tacos with fries of course. My favorite taco was the gringo. The second time around made me a fan! I was told by the server that they just revised their menu so even if you have tried it once, you may want to give them another shot. read more
A bit disappointed in our last visit! We adore this place and come pretty regularly on Tuesdays for the tacos; did the same this week and was met with a new menu that has gotten rid of fish entirely, higher prices, and smaller portions. The tacos we got here were so sad looking and the tortilla was cold, not to mention the lack of filling compared to how they used to be. The fries and eloté were great as always, but am unsure if we will frequent ST much more given that we can't eat any of the other proteins/the only one we can eat that is still served (shrimp) has increased in price and lowered in quality. read more
This has become my go to solo spot! I love the chips and salsa, tablitas and margaritas. It's a very simple place and you cannot beat the happy hour prices! I love that they do happy hour on the weekends until 6pm. I like the TVs at the bar as well to watch sports. Very clean, best-friendliest bartenders and the food has always been great! read more

The breakfast tacos were ok. Good ingredients, not anything that I would crave for, though. Dollar beers are good sells. I think some people will come here like me thinking it's like SoHo Social (which I'm a fan of) and be a little disappointed. As it is, the menu is pretty basic. If I wanted a robust menu, I'd just go to SoHo Social. If I wanted street tacos, I'd go find a taco truck/shop off Green Springs Highway. If I want American Mexican, I'd go to Taco Mama. All of these options have better value at their respective price points. Though it can be done, I think it's hard to plate mainly street-style Mexican food in a dine-in restaurant (anyone remember Bar Taco in Edgewood?), that's why I think adding some off-the-wall tacos in addition to the traditional ones would really help. read more
This place has been on my list of new places to try ever since it first opened up. I've seen so many pics of their cute and funny decor. I got to come yesterday for lunch with my friend Casi. I saw all the funny decor like the "Save Water, Drink Tequila sign", "Eat tacos or the devil will get you", and "Eat Tacos Be Social". I was however thinking the chairs and tables were a bit dated. I think this place could be so much cuter with updated furniture. Our waitress was nice and got us our food and drinks in a timely manner. However I'm not sure if she refilled my water. I usually don't care whether they come and refill it one time of five times, but I ran out of water towards the end of the meal so I did happen to notice that as that doesn't happen often. We started off with complimentary chips and salsa. I really liked the chips in that they were much crisper and crunchier than I've had at other places. We then shared an order of green chile queso. It was delicious and a huge portion! We ate a lot, but couldn't even finish it between the two of us. Maybe a group of 3 or 4 could. The we ordered steak asada quesadillas. For $17, I was expecting a higher quality steak. I have had better steak quesadillas at other Mexican restaurants for about half the price a la carte. The way the quesadilla was cut was also hard to eat as the steak and quesadilla filling kept coming out of both sides while I was trying to eat it. The guacamole was great, I finished all of that. The crema and green salsas that came with it were great too. I really enjoyed those! Overall, it did not quite meet my expectations as much as I wanted it to be my new go to place for tacos and Mexican food. My total after tax and tip was $27.30 for a quesadilla, 1/2 a bowl of queso, and just water. It was much pricier than I expected to not order a drink as well so I'm on the fence about coming back. read more

This place is incredible!! The menu is pretty big and has many options other than tacos. Before our meal was brought out, our waiter brought us chips and salsa that had to have been homemade. Once we ordered, our food came out very quickly. The portions are pretty big and totally reasonable for the price. I ordered the Casa salad and added pork to it- it was incredible and full of flavor. We also ordered the Asada Torta- also incredible. The tortas include a side of fries which were well seasoned and crispy! There's so much on the menu that I wanted to try, so I'm eager to come back and try new dishes. read more
I came to Social Taco not expecting too much and was thoroughly surprised at the quality of the food, the service, and the overall ambiance! I got the pastor burrito and it was SPICY and packed full of flavor. The portion size was also huge! The complimentary chips and salsa were highly appreciated and the chips were delicious. I did think the salsa was a bit watery but they made a mean guac so it made up for it! Overall, would definitely recommend Social Taco if you're looking for a fun tex mex restaurant in Birmingham:) read more
Seated immediately on arrival with choice of indoor or outdoor tables. On Taco Tuesday you can choose a variety of tacos for $5 each instead of being limited to the normal menu of one type. I opted for the Birria, Pollo and Picada. All 3 were good but I liked the Birria the best. I barely started on my complementary chips and salsa before the tacos were at the table. I will definitely be back for the Taco Tuesday deal and maybe after work so I can try the margaritas. read more

Sunday Brunch at Social Taco in Birmingham/ Homewood was amazing. There are two dozen small plates to choose from. Share amongst the table and then order something else. Our group of 4 probably enjoyed 15 or 16 items. Each was unique and delicious. There is outdoor seating but as it was pretty windy, we sat inside. Well decorated and interesting. Shout out to our waiter, Brad. He really made the experience better than average. Will definitely go back the next time in town. The price was very reasonable at $29 per person and $10 more if you are in to bottomless mimosas. We were. The brunch runs Saturday and Sunday for 10 a - 2:30 p. If you are visiting the 'Ham, make time to brunch at Social Taco. read more

RESTAURANT THE SPOT Social Taco 1831 28th Ave S 175 N, Homewood, AL 35209 MEXICAN FOOD LOVERS This one is for you! My bestfriend and I went downtown Homewood to try Social Taco. If you've ever been to Soho Social this is another restaurant they've acquired and it's just as good. The happy hour is half off drinks and half off appetizers from 3p - 6p. The queso with chorizo was delicious and the margs got the job done For the tacos, we tried the birria ones with a flour tortilla instead of corn and they bussed down! They also come with the "motor oil" for you to dip them in. The tacos come with rice and beans but I subbed the beans for extra rice. I definitely recommend them if you're looking for something new to try.
