If Brick & Tin has no fans then I am dead... I typically go to the location in Mountain Brook, but stumbled in here last week for lunch. I was craving the farro salad. It was a slam dunk, as usual. The smaller size of the salad has always been enough to fill me up. I typically add chicken, but I branched out for the brisket this time. The brisket here is incredible, order the brisket sandwich if it's your first time here. I'll stick with chicken on the farro salad next time tho, definitely not the intended pairing. This place is order at the front and seat yourself kind of place so it was very laid back which I appreciated since I was by myself. There's plenty of seating at the bar and at tables. Service was great as everyone was super nice and my sandwich came out fast. The sides for the paninis are basically just salads rather than typical fries or chips but I really enjoyed mine so wasn't too disappointed with that. My turkey Reuben panini was really good as well. This is one of my favorite spots in the city for a mid work week lunch! If you work at the hospital or in downtown, this is a great place to grab a bite with coworkers. They have a menu that features paninis, bowls, and salads, so there is sure to be some thing that pleases everyone. I had the brisket Panini, which was delicious. The brisket was flavorful and tender, and the bread was soft and fresh. Would highly recommend! The service is fast and friendly, so perfect for a quick lunch run. And bonus that the interior is well decorated and with a shady outdoor patio to enjoy good weather. The only thing to take away from Brick & Tin is the notorious trouble with downtown parking. I had an incredibly frustrating and unnecessarily combative experience with the hostess who takes phone orders during Tuesday lunch hours. Brick & Tin's website has a glitch where different menu versions appear depending on how you access the site. When I Google "Brick and Tin" and navigate to their website, then click "Downtown Menu" through their site, I see the correct menu. However, when I Google "Brick and Tin menu downtown" and click the "Downtown Menu" link directly from Google's search results, a different picture menu appears with outdated items. When I attempted to order an item from the outdated menu, the hostess insisted there was "absolutely no way" it was still on their website. Instead of acknowledging the possibility of a website issue, she was dismissive and combative, making the interaction far more difficult than necessary. After getting off the phone, I confirmed that the correct menu does appear when accessing the site directly. However, since many people search for restaurant menus through Google, this inconsistency will inevitably cause confusion. Rather than being combative with customers, the staff should be aware of this issue and address it appropriately. I strongly encourage the restaurant to have their web developer resolve this inconsistency. If fixing the issue isn't a priority, at the very least, staff should be informed so they can handle customer inquiries with professionalism rather than hostility. For the record, I have eaten here before and previously had a good experience, but this encounter left a bad impression. Hopefully, management will take steps to improve both their website functionality and customer service. read more

Why 5 stars? Because this was about as good as it gets when it comes to a sandwich. --- --- --- I landed in Birmingham, and as is usually the case, a flight works up my appetite. Will B mentioned Brick & Tin as a possible destination for said hunger, and I was sold. Sandwiches have about a 97% success rate at causing happiness within me, and this was no exception. The only problem is that I wasn't sure which sandwich to go with, until I realized that I had missed the most obvious choice ever - the brisket sandwich with white BBQ sauce. Done. Sold. Deliberation over. I also opted for the corn chowder, which was absolutely delicious. And the sandwich was just as wonderful. The only thing I quickly noticed that it was missing was more white bbq sauce. I headed back up to the counter to grab an extra side of it, which I can't recommend enough. As great as the meat and sauce were, the bread of the sandwich was so soft and flavorful. Generous serving and more than enough for 2. We both had a chicken dish with a pickled vegatable slaw and a polenta cake. The chicken was two small thighs cooked under a brick style. Crispy skin, tasty, but a touch overcooked. The polenta cake was good. Did not need salt which is not always the case with polenta. The slaw was good, but maybe a bit too pickly/briny as the bites got pretty salty towards the end Neither of us had room for a full dessert so we each had a chocolate chip cookie. Parking was fun and interesting! We found a space pretty easily and nearby but getting into the space was not my finest parallel parking job! After we decided on what we were going to order , we turned into some table stalkers bc seating is first come first serve. We didn't have to wait long for something to come available so this was GREAT! Without too much of a wait , our food arrived. I ordered the smoked brisket sandwich and a classic side salad. I really enjoyed my sandwich! The brisket was very tender and juicy! The sandwich had caramelized onions , bbq sauce , cheese and was served on a sourdough bread. However , I wasn't too ,too thrilled with the side salad . Way too much ranch like dressing for my liking. This salad was made up of iceberg lettuce ,shredded cheddar cheese, tomatoes and croutons. It actually reminded me of a salad from my childhood. This was neat and it wasn't horrible but certainly not something I would have to have again. Brick and Tin isn't a really big space at all but it sure packs a lot of character within those walls. This place really does have that big city vibe and charm. Also , it certainly adds to the downtown scene , which I love! Our server was nice to keep our water bottle filled with fresh water. We needed a to go box so he was able to quickly get that for us so we could get back to work . I think we actually had 8 mins to spare once we got back to the car! Since brick and tin is now opened for dinner at this location , I plan to return to experience more of this amazing atmosphere and of course to explore more of their menu items! Came here with a few friends for lunch. Although there is no official dress, it definitely feels more like a nice shorts or long pants sort of place (I had just gotten out of a test and was dressed like trash and felt like I stood out a bit.) Nevertheless, feel free to wear whatever you want. I ordered a chicken panini with a side of their rosemary soup. I really enjoyed both. The chicken was tasty and also cooked very well. The bread, although looked stiff, was actually a nice crunch with a nice soft underside. The soup was a great touch in between bites. Every time I've came for lunch ... Ive never been disappointed. I'm always for local spots and farm to table like establishments. So far I've had the Tuscan panini and the chicken and dumplings. Both Yummy !!! I will say service is pretty quick here which is a plus. I do recommend going here after the lunch rush (any time after 12:30pm) as it's less crowded. I've tried the chocolate chip cookie and I will say ... definitely wasn't as memorable as I would have liked it to be .... but that won't ruin dinning experience here. The only reason why I'm not rating this the full five stars is based on the time when I went to lunch with my friend & she ended up wiping down our table with her own travel lysol disinfectant wipes. It would have been nice to have the table wiped down before we sat. I'm not sure that the wet towel they used was cleaner than the wipes we had ... either way good thing we had our own wipes. Finally visited Brick & Tin downtown for the first time today and I now understand all the hype. This is a small place with a little café atmosphere downtown (although they do have a full bar) and a small but HIGH QUALITY menu of soups, salads, and paninis, plus a few large plate options. Went with 2 friends and we all got different paninis, each one super different but DELICIOUS. Everyone couldn't stop raving about their meals. I got the brisket panini, I'm not gonna be able to stop thinking about it. It was melt in your mouth tender and the flavor was honestly ridiculous. TRY THIS SANDWICH! Service: What service? You stand online to order at the cash register at the end of the place. They give you a Plastic Number and you place it on your table. A server brings it to you when it is ready. While on the line today, two servers told my party and two others that we had to move out of the way to allow them to get the food which was up. No warmth, no smile just a very monotone instruction. Now you rate the service. Food: I ordered the fried chicken tender salad with mixed greens served with Blu-Cheese dressing. $15.00. The chicken was average to below average at best, the salad looked great and had the worst Blu-Cheese dressing I have ever had. It was sour. Not old, just sour. I did not eat 10% of it. The server took my plate and never asked if we liked it or not. My daughter had a BBQ brisket sandwich. This had promise however after two bites, it was bland and toasted bread can not make up for blandness. I eat the few pieced of meat on it. My daughter bought one coconut cookie. I had a taste and it was the only highlight of this $40.00 lunch meal for two people. Environment: We at outside and that was very pleasant. Over All Comment: My daughters opinion was it was all GREAT. My opinion of the same meal was I will never ever, go back. I am starting to feel like I am watching a political speech on a news channel. After we ordered, a staff member helped us locate a table and we sat down and waited. Pretty soon our food came out and it all looked delicious. The panini was filled with plenty of beef, but it was lacking on sauce. The soup was the star of plate - super smooth and delicious. Because of the small space and crowd, it was extremely difficult to each other over the table, and I felt we were yelling at each other just to be heard! Brick & Tin is super cute inside! I love the décor. My vegetarian daughter is a HUGE fan, so it's good for vegetarians. We enjoyed a "day off" together and I had the Brisket Panini with a side dish comprised of a wheat product, (I don't think it was quinoa, but don't remember), mixed with fresh, seasonal veggies. The side dish was REALLY good, fresh and delicious!! The Brisket was not "to die" for, but it was good. They have a super-tightly edited menu and I think the sides change almost daily. We split a nice, dry white wine and enjoyed cold waters. It's counter service, but they do bring your dishes to your table and remove them. You order at the rear of the restaurant. The restrooms were clean. The ladies working were really friendly and there was a good sized crowd for a Friday. Not a bad spot for a nice lunch. TIP: The high tops at the back of the restaurant are SUPER high off the floor, I nearly busted my rear climbing out of the stool to refill our waters. Ha! Walked in on a Sunday Morning, they were not busy at all which was great. What we ordered: Veggie Rolls, Tuscan panini, Violeta Salad without pancetta, mac n cheese on the side and ginger beer. The pros: Cute Spot, lots of seating, okay service, really enjoyed the Tuscan Panini (great vegetarian option), I also really liked the Violeta salad it was really hardy but also light and not weighed down with too much dressing. The cons: honestly the veggie rolls weren't good, bo variated of taste in the rolls themselves and the dipping sauce was DISGUSTING. The sauce was sour and tangy. I really didn't enjoy the mac n cheese, idk why but it was not good. It cost an extra $4 and it's not worth it.. The ginger beer was also very sour and tangy. Overall I enjoyed the two entrees we got. I'll be back to get that tuscan panini again. Will stay away from a few questionable items on the menu. read more

After a recent visit from a very vocally harassing and aggressive friend and co-worker, I decided to stop in for my most recent visit for a quick lunch after his and another co-worker's flight. In his exploration of Brick & Tin, he proclaimed that it is terrible that I am taking him to a place I gave 4 stars to. I was shocked but didn't fact check him. It started me on a kick of updating reviews of places I did early in my Yelping. But just today, I got around to this update... yet it wasn't! As it turns out, my 4 star review was for the other location. And reading my review reminded why. Because my one visit there lacked in part of the service. But no way I couldn't give this location 5 stars. Why no less? Because there sandwiches are great, but their soup is unforgettable. The first time I had the butternut squash soup, my life changed and I looked at all other soups in a different light. Although I have yet to have a bad one here, I am still disappointed when I find out it is not one of the offered soups for the day. As far as sandwiches go, the brisket usually catches my eye. I try and branch out and even split with my co-worker on this trip on his choice of the New Orleans. A bit salty and made me glad I still had my half of the brisket. I have had the New Orleans before and it was good. So I will chock this one up to a one off saltiness of the meat. But the brisket made any cross feelings melt away. It can get VERY crowded for a weekday lunch. Probably their only downfall. But I don't blame the fine workers of the downtown area. We ordered the New Orleans and the Brisket. They were both great but the brisket sandwich was a clear winner. Juicy and tender brisket with caramelized onions and a Bham traditional white BBQ sauce. The New Orleans was a variation on an Italian with a handful of meats and some olives. I like olives but the flavor was a bit much. I maybe would have enjoyed it more without. For my first time going to this location I had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, there is limited sitting if you go going during lunch hour. There is limited parking on the streets, so if you don't work around the area in order to walk there then "good luck on finding a p spot". So the good thing that by the time my coworkers and I placed our order there was a table for us. I was undecided on what to order, and saw they had a catfish sandwich which I have been craving and ended up getting it with their chilled cucumber avocado soup for a side. The fish was grilled which came with a slaw and sauce on toasted bread. The taste on the sandwich was good but unfortunately when I had a bite of a piece of soggy fish skin it kind of ruin it for me where I ended up only eating half of it. I really wanted to enjoy it especially since the flavors were delicious but if you don't like soggy skin then I would not recommend it. The chilled cucumber avocado soup was very tasty, it had a creamy smooth texture and tasted like a blended salad with vinaigrette definitely recommend it to anybody that likes these ingredients!
