Came to Ragtime for an early dinner/ late lunch. We were seated quickly. Our server Diana took care of us as best she could. She had lots of tables to see about. We got some onion rings and queso for apps. They came out in good time. But it took a long while for our meals to actually come. Seems like forever when your waiting. I was so happy that they had black eye pea jambalaya soup for today. It's so good but it's on a rotation so it's not always available when I go. I got the combo soup and club. Both were yummy! I had the shrimp poboy and my wife had the pasta salad and a pizza. All the food tasted amazing. The shrimp on the poboy were cooked to perfection! We sat inside and it was nice and cozy. It's not the biggest restaurant inside but you still have adequate space to move around but the food is so amazing you can overlook that. My only complaint would be i wish our waiter was more attentive especially when there wasn't a lot of other customers there yet. But all in all it was great and I can't wait to go back. read more

This lovely little cafe is a favorite with the locals. It's a great place to catch a game on one of their TVs and cheer for your favorite team, have family dinner, enjoy a night out, or just have a good time. While there is no appointed happy hour they do have drink specials. They often have live music and have a nice outdoor seating area. If you are looking for quiet, look elsewhere because this little cafe can get pretty loud. I met a group of friends here for a girls' night out. It was pretty busy and we had to wade through the crowd. The hostess was friendly and after a bit of waiting took us to our table. There was a band playing outside but the outdoor seating was full. We wound up at a nice table by a window. Thank goodness the band was good because we couldn't hear anything else. We enjoyed ourselves even though we had to scream to hear each other. The food was delicious. They have a nice variety on their menu as well as specials on both food and drink. I got their Cajun Shrimp Pasta and it was SO good! That Cajun cream sauce is awesome! The shrimp had the perfect sear, the penne was perfectly cooked, and the red bell peppers and Cajun sausage... mmmm. I'm getting hungry again just thinking about it. I got their Key Lime Pie for dessert and it was also delicious. We had a marvelous time. I Highly recommend Ragtime! It's a fun place, with great food, service, and live music nights. We stop here every time we are in Hoover to see my doctor. This is always over the lunch hour and it is always crowded but we have never waited long to be seated or waited on. The food is always hot and delicious. My husband's favorite is the mushroom, onion and swiss burger with fries and I love the Black & Bleu Ribeye Caesar salad. Their shrimp is amazing also! I got the pecan and basil crusted grouper and twice baked potato. The fish was overcooked and the pecans were burned. The potato was charred on top. Thank goodness for the melted butter on the plate; that was there only flavor. It definitely wasn't worth the $34. Very disappointed. read more

Names can be deceiving! Cafe usually means: a small restaurant selling light meals and drinks; ie, coffeehouse. Ragtime Cafe is a straight up bar that tries to pull off a sports theme, and oh yeah, they sell food. As soon as we walked in the bar was standing room only! The hostess stand was empty and we had to wait on someone to greet us. The server that took us to our table took our drink order and never returned. Finally a second server came to take our drink order and see if we had any questions. Menu prices were over priced for "bar food." We orders the combo appetizer and some fried dill pickle chips. We tried spending our time having a conversation while waiting on our food, but the crowd volume was very loud. The dining room was packed and too get out a paetron had to move his chair out of the way. (Something tells me it is against fire code to block the exit to the dining room.) The food finally came after about a 30 min wait. (too long for appetizers) The combo appetizer included: Mozzarella sticks, loaded potato skins, wings and chicken fingers. The plate was covered with the grease from the wings, which were overcooked and dripping with too much sauce. The "loaded" potato skins were dry, poorly seasoned and had a little cheese, some bacon bits and a pinch of green onion. The chicken fingers were large, chewy, stringy and overcooked. The "mozzarella" sticks were a frozen, pre-made, processed cheese product. (Please remove mozzarella from the name, because it doesn't include any actual mozzarella) The marina sauce was vinegar, sugar and tomato paste. Just overall BAD! Ranch dressing was watery, honey mustard appeared to be homemade but had an overall tart mustard flavor. (no honey involved) BBQ sauce was very good, very familiar flavor. (ie: sweet baby rays!) The fried dill pickles appeared to be made in house and not frozen. Thick dill pickle chips , lightly battered and served with a spicy cajun sauce. They were very good! Diet Coke was excellent!!! Two stars due to polite server, fried pickles and Diet Coke. If you into overpriced, poorly done bar food, overly loud atmosphere and forgotten fire codes, then this place might be for you. Just not for us! Unfortunately, will NOT be back to this "cafe". read more

We went to Ragtime last night after realizing our first restaurant plan was closed on Tuesdays... so glad we did! Service is an obvious priority at Ragtime - the host was so attentive in bringing us to our table and then brought us drinks (this is a really nice touch! It gives the server a few minutes while they wrap up their current table and makes sure guests feel attended to). The menu has a bit of everything - we had a hard time deciding on dinner but opted for: * the onion ring appetizer - huge, esp for $8!, and the creole dipping sauce was spicy and delicious. * the pimento, bacon and avocado burger with a twice-baked-potato - a crazy mess of deliciousness * the bacon cheeseburger - again delicious. The hamburger itself was seasoned so well. I could have just had the patty itself * beef tenderloin sandwich - the bread was so soft, the prepared horseradish made the sandwich special, the meat was grilled perfectly and the mushrooms were 'chef kiss' The portions are huge. None of us finished our dinner and brought it home for lunch another day. We will be back. read more

My very first time having Ragtime cafe was a few weeks ago . My sister and I met here for lunch (after 2). Since it was after 2, the daily specials were no longer available , but their regular menu consisted of lots of really tasty choices. I ordered two appetizers as my meal. Onion rings and nachos. Odd combo but both were well prepared and the serving sizes were enough to share! I even had leftovers. My sis had a ribeye Caesar salad - she said it was really good and she too had leftovers! The inside has a sports bar feel to it. The dining areas are spacious, so this made social distancing easy. Outdoor seating is also available. I don't like how tight and small the bar area is... downside to me. Our server provided great customer service. She wasn't overbearing and was readily available if we needed anything. All of the staff were wearing masks and practicing good hygiene. Solid food and service!!! Great experience overall....Can't wait to try more menu items soon! read more

One of the best restaurants I've been to in the Valleydale Hoover area. The entire staff acts like a family and they treat everyone who comes in that way. The upstairs bartender Vy is beyond nice and personable. She is the type of person you feel like you have known your entire life. The manager Warren is always walking around to see if anyone needs anything. They have a downstairs portion you can rent out for events. They also host cool events of their own. Tonight's event was Bourbon and Bbq. They had a live band and some really killer bourbon brands to try out. I regretfully didn't try the bbq but maybe next time. I think they have a tequila and tacos event coming up which is right up my alley. I had the beef tenderloin and fried shrimp salad with spicy ranch. I got my food to go and I was sneaking bites as I got stuck behind a train. So good. I managed to eat half of the huge salad(Great portions for the money) before admitting defeat. The tenderloin was moist and melt in your mouth and the shrimp spicy and flavorful. I will definitely be back and I will try the London broil which I heard so many people request while I was there. read more

Everything I've ever had here is delicious. The grilled chicken Alfredo isn't your average Alfredo, it's far superior to regular Alfredo. Cocktails were great and well priced. It is not an exaggeration to say that it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. My husband was extremely pleased with his food as well. Fries were golden and crispy and the onion rings amazing! The atmosphere was a sports bar atmosphere and quite loud but I didn't expect anything less and was forewarned that it would be a little loud (talking not music). The waitress was nice, but the service was slow. It has been the same every time. I don't know if he tables just weren't efficient or what, but she had tables inside and out. She seemed to be running between both locations a lot. Maybe if her tables were not spread out, it would've been better. As for the food, my wife and daughter like the double fried wings. I've been to Ragtime many times for lunch and have found the food to be consistently good (I'd give it a 4 rating for a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads and meat-and-veggie options). Last night, my wife and I came here for our first dinner visit and, wow was I impressed! In addition to their regular menu, they also had a dinner menu that featured several seafood items - grouper, redfish, tuna, catfish and a few other entrees - served either in a chef's special setup or offered fried, grilled or blackened with one of several standard setups, all of which sounded good. We ordered parmesan-crusted grouper and pecan-crusted basil salmon. Both were large pieces of fish with excellent flavor cooked exactly as ordered - definitely a "5"! One comment about the atmosphere, in case it matters to you. The dining room is divided into two sections that are both crammed full of tables and have a low ceiling that makes it very noisy and cramped. If you're looking for a quieter atmosphere where quiet conversation is easy - or if you're concerned about COVID - this may not be the place for you unless you want to sit at one of the outdoor tables on the front porch. read more
