I finally made it!!! I decided to stop by on a Saturday with the intention of dining in. No, this place was packed!!! I grabbed a menu and ordered the Chicken fried chicken with fried okra to go. The server thought it would be a little wait but the food came out pretty quick. The chicken fried chicken was a nice size but I would have loved more rice. The meal comes with a salad but I decided on fried okra for an additional cost. I was disappointed in the portion size of the okra since I had to pay extra. We came here on a Friday night and it was packed. We were seated quickly in a booth near the kitchen. Jimmy was our server and he was very attentive. Had a pleasurable lunch with a friend I had not seen in a while. There was a large lunch crowd and I must compliment our server (Sophia) on her excellent service and demeanor. Not far from our hotel in Calera is the Main Street Tavern. I did my homework and found this place on Yelp in Montvallo, AL. Our server is from this town and was very helpful with the menu. We ordered cheese curds to start and they were outstanding! They came out piping hot and cooked perfectly. The batter made for a crispy treat and the sauce had great flavor. Tyler order wings; garlic Parmesan and honey BBQ, Eric ordered Chicken Parmesan and I ordered a fried chicken sandwich with garlic Parmesan sauce and tots. My sandwich was called a Buffalo chicken sandwich on the menu and I decided to sub the Buffalo sauce with garlic parm. Simple swap, right? The wires got twisted and they brought me a fired chicken with garlic Buffalo sauce. They corrected this issue very quickly which was appreciated since my colleague both were served a few minutes before me so they already had a head start. Tyler enjoyed his garlic parm wings. Eric was enjoying his chicken parm sandwich. The chicken breast was enough on both our sandwich and mine was cooked perfectly. The breading was crispy and the sandwich was enhanced by the garlic parm. Our server made an honest mistake and incidentally charged my colleague's credit card for my meal. Once I explain to her what occurred she immediately fixed the issue by refunding his card and bringing me a new bill for the meal. The owner stopped by our table and introduced himself. The building appears to be a renovated and reused fire station or industrial mechanics garage. I enjoyed our meal at the Main Street Tavern. Did not disappoint great historic old firehouse and great Down Home Southern Cookin. The portions were bountiful & delicious. Loved our server who helped answer most popular dish to her favorites. We had great smash burger, ribeyes cooked tender perfect, smothered chopped steak with awesome gravy and rice. & Pasta Carbonara. This meal was Southern Country Cooking at its Best. Came here for lunch with my friend. The place is pretty big. There is a parking lot but you could also park on the street which is what I did. We were able to get a table right away. I ordered a club sandwich which had both ham and turkey on it. It was really good. If you don't want fries, it can get any of their other side dishes. I got tots. My friend got a patty melt. The fryer oil MUST be old because the fish, the fried green tomatoes and the fries tasted like old oil. the food was not the usual golden brown, but dark brown and did not taste fresh. Montevallo's best kept secret. This place is truly a hidden gem and the pride of the town. I have NEVER had a bad meal here. Service is top notch. And the portion size is HUGE...enough to have two meals from one entree. Serves a variety of foods from wings to pastas to salads to good home style veggies. Get the fried green tomatoes...my personal favorites! The Dirty D's rice is AMAZING! We came for the Fried Fish, Friday green tomatoes, sweet potato fries and of course the fried apple pie with ice cream. The ONLY good part of the entire meal was the ice cream.All the fried food tasted like OLD OIL. NASTY. The fish which is usually golden brown and wonderful WAS NOT. The fried green tomatoes were old and slimy. The sweet potato fried tasted like leftover from yesterday. The fried apple pie was dark brown and tough and tasted like old oil. Pretty good food for the prices. I ordered the seafood platter which came with fried fish, fried shrimp and shrimp scampi. The gave me fried founded which I definitely wasn't a fan of. The manager rectified the situation and gave my catfish instead which tasted much better. I definitely recommend the hot wings. They were hot, fresh and cooked to order.
