Chicken wings, green beans and mash potatoes

Yelp! They still good. It's my birthday and this chicken on the bone calling me. Yes It's calling. We are a party of 7! We REAL hungry. We fresh out of church and ready to eat. Everybody got some chicken, mostly chicken wings. I got a side piece of catfish and another got fried livers. All this food good. We got all the sides! Okra, French fries, baked beans, slaw, green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. Yum! These okra eaters are gone wild! Dustin has served us well. Y'all already know where this delicious fried chicken abides, CHAMPY's BABY! This stuff good. Happy Birthday to me!

Decided to have lunch here on a Friday afternoon. There was a nice crowd but not a long wait to be seated. I was seated at a big booth and that was perfect since I was also working. My server was sweet and provided good, non overbearing service. I ordered 3 piece white (2 breast & 1 wing) which comes with coleslaw and baked beans. The chicken was fried perfectly!!! Crunchy on the outside and soooo juicy and moist inside. The sides were good and went well with the crispy fried chicken. I ordered to go for my mom and nephew. Their chicken fingers were huge and definitely enough to share or for leftovers. It has been many years since I last visited Champys and I was impressed with the service and the food! I'll definitely be back soon to try their hot tamales and to take advantage again of their $5 Abita Andygator holiday special!

My husband, son and I decided to try somewhere new to us since we were in the area. The restaurant was pretty crowded for a late afternoon lunch. We were greeted and seated immediately. Pickle spears were delicious. My husband ordered an old fashioned and really loved it. All of our food came out piping hot. Everyone enjoyed their meal. My son ordered the banana pudding for dessert and I stole a few bites and it was perfect. Parking is plentiful. Our server was friendly and attentive.

I visited Mar 2025. Good for what it is. The portions were large, service competent and kind, and ambience was unique, albeit the total number of decorative collections exceeded my sanity levels (dollar bills--guitars--signs--bicycle stuff--and I can't remember what else). I would have been content with observing just the vast collection of graffitied $1 bills papering the walls. Some of the chicken was underdone, a risk with deep frying large numbers of chicken pieces at a time. This was another kid-requested restaurant; I just don't enjoy much deep fried, greasy Southern food (thus why I give it only 4 stars). I returned in June with friends and just got a salad; my insides thanked me. P.S. my youngest son had a couple dollars in cash that he personally gave to our waitress for an extra tip, because he had such a nice time! Writing this review has made me want to take my kids back. :-)

We were coming from the National Cemetery after attending the Wreaths across America service, which was inspirational and beautiful, when we decided to stop here for lunch. Now, let me say this didn't look like your usual family restaurant. I think that's what made it so appealing, the curiosity of it all. Upon arrival, I stopped two customers leaving and asked them if the food was good; their response was, "we''be been here three times this week and we live in Prattville." Say less, I continued to be seated and wait on the rest of my party. How do I describe the decor? I can't. You really have to see this for yourself. Very clean eccentric restaurant. My family joined me and said, the food had better be good! The menu was predominantly a fried menu and they loved it!!! We ordered, fried chicken livers, catfish, shrimp and hush puppies. The portions were large enough to share. The flavors were perfect on all the food. The service was wonderful. She kept our beverages full and was so courteous and polite. I would comeback!!!

We have went a few times here lately. The food has been delicious and the waitresses friendly. We love the Fried Jalapeño basket and the tamales. We get the catfish or fried shrimp plate. The drinks are very affordable. You have to ask for the drink list though most of the time . Every-time I go I see people taking some food home. The last few times they have had more waitresses working. If you want Fried catfish, fried chicken, or fried shrimp this is your place. For a drink I would suggest a Sangria not a hurricane. You do get your moneys worth! The only place in Alabaster I will eat at regularly. Best restaurant in Alabaster no joke!!

My friend and I wanted some fried chicken for dinner. We found Champy's close by. The place was pretty big. Friendly atmosphere. The decor of the restaurant was fun with lots of nick-nacks and decorations. I ordered a two piece with potato salad and fried okra. Of course, we order some sweet tea with our dinner. The chicken and sides were excellent. The chicken was hot and juicy. Everything was very delicious. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We had a great dinner!

The margaritas here are SO much better than the typical ones you will find at a Mexican restaurant that come from a machine. If you're lucky, Meagan will be tending the bar are will offer you some friendly banter while providing excellent service.

I decided to try Champy's for lunch. My dad and I ordered their fried shrimp po'boy and fries to go. The lady that took my order was very friendly and professional. She was able to answer my question about the bread they used without putting me on hold to check, which was refreshing. The wait was about 15 minutes. Champy's gives off a laid back quirky vibe from the outside. I hope to be able to go in to enjoy the food on my next visit. Their drive-thru is for call ahead orders only, so there is no speaker or menu board. The service was prompt and friendly. I was asked if I needed cutlery or condiments, which is a plus in my book, especially since we were headed to Orr Park. Our food was ready and we'll packaged. The food was still piping hot after thirty minutes of stops and driving. The fries are seasoned and very tasty. The po'boy was very good. It was on toasted New Orleans style French bread. This made me so happy because often times I've gotten a po'boy on a hoagie roll or even a hot dog bun. The bread for the po'boy had been slathered with garlic butter before toasting and it gave it such a good flavor. It was dressed with a Cajun mayo that was just spicy enough to be delicious, lettuce, and tomatoes. The shrimp were fried to perfection but I would have liked more shrimp. I think there were five, maybe six shrimp, which was enough to barely cover the bread. The po'boy was delicious even if it was a little under filled with shrimp. I give Champy's a solid 4/5 stars for to go. I recommend it and hope to return soon and hopefully catch some live music.

The fried pickles were served quickly, we had to wait awhile to eat them because they fresh out the grease. The chicken? Is a yes, cooked fresh to order. I should have ordered fries, the baked beans and potato salad i could not eat, they were both sweet in a bad way. I had the Muddy Waters, it was delicious, not very strong on a lemon taste. The service was great, waitress was attentive. Its smaller inside that i thought, but big enough. Juke joint decor, very eclectic but clean.

Stopped with friends for lunch. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. The chicken was good, we all enjoyed our meals. A little too much carbs for me. I would come back just for the atmosphere.

Great choice. I also got a side salad with the chipotle ranch dressing and that was very good too. Picture below. For dessert, I was planning on getting the key lime pie, because that is usually my move, but Hayden my server talked me into trying the blueberry cobbler cheesecake instead. I am glad he did. What really stood out beyond the food was the overall experience. The staff was incredibly nice, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing, which made us feel right at home. The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable, and even the bathrooms were spotless, which always says a lot about a place. It also hasn't been very busy the times we've gone, which made for a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Even so, the food came out quickly and was still hot and fresh, which is the best of both worlds. We actually loved it so much that we went back again just a couple of days later, and it was just as good the second time around. If you're looking for great Southern food, friendly service, and a laid-back dining experience, Dale's Southern Grill is definitely worth a visit. The ONLY thing I didn't like was the kids' chicken finger meal. I tried one of the chicken fingers when biting it to give to my toddler, and it wasn't good. The taste was weird and it was gummy. Fry chicken is tasty with perfect crisp. Collard greens were seasoned well and perfect texture. Yams (my favorite) was perfect - flavorful, not too sweet and firm but not hard. Both of us thought the Black eyed peas looked really good but taste bland. I would have preferred it without the Okra. I didn't see that when I ordered. One in our group commented the meat loaf was good. The dressing was really good too - well seasoned and tasty. After paying there's a dining area for self seating. It serves the purpose to sit and eat but definitely could use sprucing up along with the restrooms. Please seriously consider! It would make the experience much more pleasant to enjoy their delicious food. I took off two stars for that reason and yes it's that unpleasant as the tables/chairs are also too clustered together. The chairs don't fit around the table properly. Overall good southern food at a reasonable price and recommended. Skip dining in if you don't have too. Just my two cents.

Yams were the perfect balance of cinnamon and sweetness, but without being overpowering. My dad got the fried snapper with pinto beans and collards. He liked it all.
