This is some really good fried chicken. Great skin, super fresh, moist, all the things. We split the 3 piece dark meal with fries, and it hit the spot. I had a nice, crispy diet coke. Stopped at this location during a road trip, I have been to Champy's in Chattanooga before. Was excited and the food/ambiance was good as usual. Only concern was I asked for Champy's sauce with the tender basket, looked at it in the parking lot and noticed it looked like their honey mustard instead. Tried it, confirmed it tasted like honey mustard, then went inside with my receipt asking for it to be switched for Champy's sauce. Spoke to a waitress (not the one who helped us at drive thru) and I explained that I wanted Champy's sauce. She said "uh huh" confused and I held up what I had saying it tasted like honey mustard. She said yes Champy's sauce is honey mustard based. I told her I've been to (and worked as a teenager) at Champy's before in Tennessee and the color was more yellow than the orange I'm used to (like they added too much honey mustard) and again it tasted exactly like honey mustard. She explained that the Champy's sauce (and red heat) recipe was different at their location. I took her answer and left. Not sure if I indeed had honey mustard (they come in the same containers) and she didn't want to double check or if their Champy's sauce recipe really is just primarily honey mustard. I think the people of Alabama are missing out though on the champys sauce from the original location in Chattanooga, not sure why there is so much variation between locations. Found this place while out for the morning trip to a local bark park. The restaurant has the typical 'joint' feel to it with old signs and pictures adorning the walls. The place was doing a pretty brisk business early on a Saturday, which was hopeful. The service was prompt, attentive, and courteous. We ordered the three-piece dark meat chicken platter. Decided to have lunch here on a Friday afternoon. There was a nice crowd but not a long wait to be seated. I was seated at a big booth and that was perfect since I was also working. My server was sweet and provided good, non overbearing service. I ordered 3 piece white (2 breast & 1 wing) which comes with coleslaw and baked beans. The chicken was fried perfectly!!! Crunchy on the outside and soooo juicy and moist inside. The sides were good and went well with the crispy fried chicken. I ordered to go for my mom and nephew. Their chicken fingers were huge and definitely enough to share or for leftovers. It has been many years since I last visited Champys and I was impressed with the service and the food! I visited Mar 2025. Good for what it is. The portions were large, service competent and kind, and ambience was unique, albeit the total number of decorative collections exceeded my sanity levels (dollar bills--guitars--signs--bicycle stuff--and I can't remember what else). I would have been content with observing just the vast collection of graffitied $1 bills papering the walls. Some of the chicken was underdone, a risk with deep frying large numbers of chicken pieces at a time. This was another kid-requested restaurant; I just don't enjoy much deep fried, greasy Southern food (thus why I give it only 4 stars). I returned in June with friends and just got a salad; my insides thanked me. P.S. my youngest son had a couple dollars in cash that he personally gave to our waitress for an extra tip, because he had such a nice time! Now, let me say this didn't look like your usual family restaurant. I think that's what made it so appealing, the curiosity of it all. Upon arrival, I stopped two customers leaving and asked them if the food was good; their response was, "we''be been here three times this week and we live in Prattville." We have went a few times here lately. The food has been delicious and the waitresses friendly. We love the Fried Jalapeño basket and the tamales. We get the catfish or fried shrimp plate. The drinks are very affordable. You have to ask for the drink list though most of the time . Every-time I go I see people taking some food home. The last few times they have had more waitresses working. If you want Fried catfish, fried chicken, or fried shrimp this is your place. For a drink I would suggest a Sangria not a hurricane. overall impression: below-average/average food with good service I've seen so many conflicting reviews for this place so my husband and I were excited to go in and try it for ourselves! The old fashioned my husband had was just a standard old fashioned, nothing fancy. so, I'm counting that as a positive since there's no complaints. now for the negatives....which there are a lot of, sadly. firstly, the margarita - this seems to be more of a personal thought bc I know many people LOVE the margaritas here. They're not for me and they're very tequila heavy so if that's your thing, you will probs love it. for the food: the tamales were like room temperature and not really warm so that was a bit off putting. flavor was okay, just not great. the po boy was decent, but the Champy's sauce is not my favorite. it's like a...semi-spicy weird honey mustard? I really don't know and I personally don't think it's even worth investigating. The chicken was super average fried chicken, nothing special about it AT ALL. the okra was also super average and not really seasoned and the chicken fillet sandwich was dry. food: 2/5 the service was GREAT. our waitress was very nice and attentive and I have zero complaints. the food came out quickly and everyone we interacted with was kind. service: 4/5 the restaurant itself is smaller inside than you'd think but the vibe is pretty cool! it's like eclectic jukebox themed but the lighting is fairly dark and the tables and seating felt and looked old and worn out to me. also, something about money stapled on the walls screams dirty to me considering how filthy money is. still, I liked the vibe. cleanliness 3/5 I won't return here and I won't recommend the place, but it's not a bad option for people who are fans of alcohol-heavy drinks and bar level food! read more

I decided to try Champy's for lunch. My dad and I ordered their fried shrimp po'boy and fries to go. The lady that took my order was very friendly and professional. She was able to answer my question about the bread they used without putting me on hold to check, which was refreshing. The wait was about 15 minutes. Champy's gives off a laid back quirky vibe from the outside. I hope to be able to go in to enjoy the food on my next visit. Their drive-thru is for call ahead orders only, so there is no speaker or menu board. The service was prompt and friendly. I was asked if I needed cutlery or condiments, which is a plus in my book, especially since we were headed to Orr Park. Our food was ready and we'll packaged. The food was still piping hot after thirty minutes of stops and driving. The fries are seasoned and very tasty. The po'boy was very good. It was on toasted New Orleans style French bread. This made me so happy because often times I've gotten a po'boy on a hoagie roll or even a hot dog bun. The bread for the po'boy had been slathered with garlic butter before toasting and it gave it such a good flavor. It was dressed with a Cajun mayo that was just spicy enough to be delicious, lettuce, and tomatoes. The shrimp were fried to perfection but I would have liked more shrimp. I think there were five, maybe six shrimp, which was enough to barely cover the bread. The po'boy was delicious even if it was a little under filled with shrimp. I give Champy's a solid 4/5 stars for to go. I recommend it and hope to return soon and hopefully catch some live music. read more

The fried pickles were served quickly, we had to wait awhile to eat them because they fresh out the grease. The chicken? Is a yes, cooked fresh to order. We all got chicken and I had a single piece of catfish (not pictured). The food is cooked to order so you have to wait a bit but it was delivered hot and freshly fried! The chicken is seasoned and cooked "perfectly" although my preference is a little crispier. I can pass on the okra from now on but the green beans were good. I was able to taste other sides off my folks plates... the baked beans and potato salad are yummy but the mashed potatoes are sooooo good! I'll have to try those next time. Same decor, same menu, same great service. We chose to sit in the porch because it was such a nice afternoon. We were seated immediately and our server met us at the table. I opted for the fried three wing plate with baked beans and potato salad. Each order is made right then, fresh and hot and comes straight from fryer to your table. My chicken was so fresh I had to let it cool before I could eat it. Crust was crisp and spicy, meat was tender and juicy. Mustard potato salad was great, tender potatoes with large chucks of egg. Baked beans were sweet and spicy at the same time. No complaints with either. Champy's is a great choice for some great southern fried chicken with a spicy kick. It didn't really do it for me. When I was eating it, I was wishing it was Zaxby's sauce. The mashed potatoes were very cold so I didn't enjoy them. The french fries were amazing!
