You order at the counter and they bring you the food. The boots are very comfortable and raised off the floor. We were brought a platter of corn muffins and butter but no plates so we had to use napkins to eat them on. I ordered the stuffed baked potato with brisket and the stuffed macaroni and cheese balls. I ordered the potato without sour cream but it came with it. The potato was enormous so I could only eat the brisket and bacon. The brisket was perfectly cooked. The Mac and cheese balls were amazing One companion ordered a turkey sandwich. She loved the turkey so much that she plans to order a whole turkey for Thanksgiving. Another diner had the 1 pound plate of ribs. The meat fell off the bone and he loved the sauce. The other diner had the 3 meat special with ribs, turkey and brisket. It was all delicious. I've been looking for Alabama specialties, namely white sauce and banana pudding, and I found them here. I asked and locals usually have the white sauce, a mayo based bbq sauce, on chicken or turkey, so I had it with the smoked turkey. Wow! America has yet another delicious unique BBQ taste! Try them all! As for the banana pudding, they have festivals devoted to the dessert around the state, and it's both as overly sweet and yet surprisingly tasty with a light cake to give it a pie slice form. Delicious. The ambiance is pretty standard restaurant with high ceilings, brick walls and wooden booths. And the service was prompt & professional. I get that folks would rather have a waiter take orders table side, but having both a to go counter and a dine in counter for ordering is very efficient. Food is always very good for BBQ joint in Alabama. You can not go wrong with a classic pork sandwich and their Mac and cheese is (chefs kiss). However the service always seems to be very slow. Pork is their staple and it took 13 minutes tonight to get it through the drive through and honestly not that busy. I did not use this to affect my rating but I'm personally not a fan of the redesign. They turned it into a fast food restaurant versus a sit down restaurant. read more

But if I don't, that is why I used the window and am not dining in. I think it's time they get regular pay. But aside from that popular opinion, best tasting barbeque in town!!!! read more

What is there to say about Jim 'N Nick's that would help you enjoy this location? Is it that this is the only location you have to go to the counter and order? You get to refill your own drinks? That your order has a 3 in 10 chance of being what the Menu says it is? While it gives you the appearance of a good BBQ place that is misguided. My opinion would be to steer clear of the Turkey Sandwich. That would be the Joe's Original Turkey. What comes on it you may ask? Lettuce; Tomato and Honey Mustard but I asked to add Mayo. My fellow dinner asked for Mayo but no honey mustard. She did not get the mayo or honey mustard and I did not get honey mustard but did get mayo. Simple mixup but you have to remember the sides and I wanted mayo and honey mustard. I know it was one time no this was the second time this month for the same sandwich and the first time is came with no lettuce; tomato; or anything else when asked. This first time there was a 3rd with us who wanted corn but the corn was looked like it was dehydrated. The look and feel along with prices of a high end BBQ place you would think better. I come to Jim 'N Nick's whenever I'm looking for a quick but delicious meal and they consistently do great each time I come! I normally order the chicken tender basket or the burger with corn or baked beans and it is always amazing! I always have to get the house salad too. Each time I order from this location my order is hot, yummy, and accurate. I can't speak too much on the ambiance inside, but what I can say is that the dress code is casual. I mostly order either through the drive-thru or via the website as a pick-up order but I often see patrons entering and exiting the establishment casually dressed. We ordered some food online to be picked up. The order was correct, but it wasn't ready by the time it was supposed to be ready by. I had to wait in the lobby for about 10 minutes while my wife dealt with fussy children in the car - not an ideal situation, and did NOT get an apology. Other than that, the staff were friendly and professional though. The food itself was good. We got some salad and soup, fries, mac and cheese, and chicken fingers, as well as some BBQ sauce for dipping. And of course, the always famous and delicious cheese biscuits. This is one of my favorite places to get a cheeseburger. It is so juicy. Their salad are so fresh and crispy. This time I got the BBQ ranch which was so amazing. I just recently tried their bbq corn which is very yummy as well. The white BBQ sauce that comes on it is addicting. If you love lemon do yourself a favor and get the lemon ice box pie. It is out of this world. I love that they have a drive thru which is so convenient. On the receipt if you fill out survey you will get $5 off $20 on your next trip. We live within a couple miles of both Jim N Nick's and another local BBQ place. What gives JNN the advantage at times is the cheese biscuits. Sometimes we'll even swing through the drive-thru to get them to go with other meals. Honestly, for this location I have always preferred the drive-thru. Even before 2020 and restaurant changes, I didn't like the seating. I either felt cramped into a table in the middle of the room, or on an odd platform booth, like I'm lording over over-seeing the people who are cramped in the middle. The smaller side room is usually okay. I have not gotten to eat outside, even though it's been available even before this year, so I may need to go back and try that. Their pies are also a bright spot on the menu, and again, we pick these up for special occasions. The chocolate is a favorite and often requested treat by several in the family. I personally like them all; with the real whip cream on top they are super filling, so be sure to save room or share a piece with someone. The location itself is pretty good, sitting atop a small hill above the shopping center. If you're near a window at sunset, there are some spectacular ones to be seen. A lot of people don't seem to know or remember it's up there. This may change if they ever finally put the last bit of road thru from 31 to make passage between the north and south ends of the shopping center. read more

The food was absolutely amazing i had the new boss sandwich and it was to die for, i also enjoyed the yummy new strawberry shortcake which was a delight. Me and my friend dined in and the staff was wonderful, even tho it was busy they still made sure to check on us often and bring us refills, they even offered us a refill on our biscuits. We came here based on a recommendation from the front desk of the hotel down the street. You have to order your food in a line at a counter and was told you'd get refills at the table. We did not. The ice machine was down at the there was an ice bucket with one scoop and everyone's greasy, grimy, and germy hands in the ice bucket scoop (super unsanitary). The food was subpar, my husband smokes meats at home and his beats it hands down. The corn said it was grilled, it was NOT grilled. Maybe microwaved at best. Sorry but I wouldn't return or recommend this place. The only plus side was the nice bartender who gave us fresh, clean, good ice. My husband got the brisket platter and had a tiny 5 slices of meat. I always love eating at Jim 'N Nick's. This Jim 'N Nick's in Alabaster sadly missed the mark for me. First off, this Jim 'N Nick's is huge! There were so many cars and so much space in the parking lot. I was in need of an outlet to charge my phone so I went inside and asked to be seated in a booth with an outlet. The hostess told me they actually don't have outlets. She said I was allowed to unplug a lamp if I needed too, but I just made my peace with a low battery. Now for the actual food. The waitress I got was a little all over the place, and had trouble remembering orders. She might be new cause I feel Jim 'N Nick's usually have a high turnover rate. The free biscuits were brought out to me pretty quickly and were delicious. I ordered the pig in the garden salad. It was my first time getting a salad here ever. It was not very flavorful at all even with the vinaigrette dressing I got. Neither the salad nor the meat had a taste. I wouldn't re-order nor recommend this salad. read more

Jim n nicks is a well established restaurant with a great reputation! We love their variety of family dinners and individual meals to choose from. We don't dine in much only because it's always packed so drive thru is always our choice. But man! The food is always delicious. Sometimes the greens are a bit salty and the baked beans a bit sweet but nonetheless we are satisfied! When we do dine in it's very pleasant the noise is not unbearable and the wait staff are on point. Bathrooms are clean and everything is wiped down. So this is a great way to have a family outing whether it be dine in or a picnic.. I believe they also cater events so we will be looking into doing that as well. I haven't been to a Jim n nicks since our last date-aversary so I was definitely surprised to see that they have changed it to a counter-service restaurant. I actually didn't really mind the change and like being able to get up to grab a drink when I'm out. I had the joes Turkey sandwich that comes with lettuce and tomato. It was so full with Turkey and the bun was really good! I had Mac and cheese on the side and it was yummy (as always). My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and enjoyed it. We split a plate of brisket fries and they were so good. Of course I asked for white sauce and ranch. Imo jim n nicks has the best white sauce and some of the best ranch in bham. I treated myself to a cup of sweat tea and they did not disappoint. It was as country as it gets. One sad thing is that they don't bring a basket of those famous biscuits to the table anymore. Instead, you get a larger biscuit with your entree. I understand cutting cost and appreciate that they didn't completely take them off the menu. You can buy them by the basket now. Tonight was first visit to Jim N Nicks, I was seated quickly and the menu had a great selection of smoked meats, sides and appetizers. The cheese biscuits they serve as soon as you are seated are very good, a little too sweet for me but still great. I must say the service was outstanding, Jaselyn was my server and she was checking on me every time she passed by and always smiling. I ordered the baby back ribs and they were a bit dry and not as tender as I expect, the flavor was good but they didn't remove the membrane from the inside of the ribs which may have contributed to them being a little tough. I had heard and read a lot about Jim n Nick's BBQ for years and finally had the opportunity to be in Birmingham, Alabaster to be specific, and met family for a nice lunch. I ordered the combo plate with two meats, chopped beef brisket and pulled pork, with beans and potato salad and nothing was edible for me and I usually like to eat. But the chopped brisket was too tough, really, and.had not much flavour by itself. I had ordered all meat dry, sauce on the side. The pulled pork had so much pulled fat with it I couldn't separate the two. I tried the beans and they were okay and the potato salad was commercial, nothing home-made. The service was good and friendly. For a party of six and a tab over$125, I expected more due to the reputation which was way overstated. read more

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT! Attempted to eat at longhorn steakhouse and the parking lot was full and it was such a long wait that we decided to go to Jim & Nicks. The 70% empty parking lot should of been a clue not to eat here, but the wife and I decided to give it a go. I got the Jim's combo plate with ribs, that's an upcharge, ribs, oh, that's upcharge, onion rings, upcharge also, and a side salad that's also an upcharge. I ordered water. The Mrs got a Carolina pork plate with Ice-T. Ribs came out cold, brisket came out cold, pulled pork came out cold. I took mine back to the staff but my wife decided to keep hers (she doesn't complain about subpar food and just tolerates it). Carolina pork plate, sweet tea, and Jim's combo meat plate for 2 came to a whopping $52.40!!! Jim and Nick's will NEVER, EVER get my business again (THX Taylor Swift). Manager tried to make it right but informed me that they do not have any more ribs... That's like McDonald's running out of french fries...are you kidding? So, I got two orders of brisket, but did not enjoy my meal at all because I was so upset, at the terrible service and cold meals. I will spend my $52.40 elsewhere in the future. I attached a picture of the parking lot and the inside of the restaurant. That should have been my clue not to order, which is counter service and didn't even get greeted... Terrible customer service, terrible wait staff, and cold brisket, cold pork, and cold ribs. Person from the back sadly informed me that they have no way of heating up the ribs I had...what a joke. Really torn and want to give this place a higher review. All in all they are really good. Staff have always been friendly and accommodating. Regardless of if you are using the drive through or seated in the bar area to get a to go order or in the regular restaurant. BBQ is really good. They actually have some leaner cuts of meat than some of the other BBQ places. Also, they have some pretty good burgers, sometimes it's hard to get BBQ if you're in the mood for a good burger. They also have a really, really good greek salad with smoked chicken. Also, their mac and cheese, sets the bar pretty high. My wife strives to duplicate what they offer. But, hands down, the star of the show are those blasted stupid cheese biscuits. Warm, smoking hot (heat temp not heat spicy) cheesy goodness that comes in every bite of the mini sized biscuits. Let's just be honest, these things are legit not good .... you can seriously eat a 100 of these things and not feel bad about it (until tomorrow). I'm not sure what they put in them but we crave these things and nothing is a fix until you have them. You've been warned!!! So why only three stars. When going through the drive through they have about a 25% chance at getting the order right. Sometimes caught at home (not any more - check before leaving).
