Rib plate with slaw and beans.
    Terry C.

Converted a bbq & fixings non-fan! Short version: Delicious food! Shockingly good in a saturated bbq market. Fast service! Long version: I was born and raised in Bama yet I never fell n love with bbq, disliked slaw, and hated beans. Until my job catered Big Doons! I took a plate because I was hungry and wanted to be polite. But I didn't suffer! The food was so good it tasted like some more. So not even two weeks later I decided to spend some of my hard-earned on a second try. Free food always has an unfair advantage. Would it be as good if it cost me? I was prepared to be disappointed because, what is ever as good as the first time? Doon's! Big Doon's is! I ordered a rib plate with coleslaw and beans as the sides, a side of okra, and a cheesesteak egg roll. In less than 10 minutes I was back in my car. I ate half the egg roll before I made it out the lot. Yum! I never made it to the sauce. Okra: Is this hand battered!? It's not the usual breaded and bagged! That's for sure. And there's a light dusting of something savory on top. I ended up dropping them in the lobby and if I was at home, that 5 second rule would've been enacted. The ribs are tender and smoky. I wish I had asked for no sauce to really get a sense of what the baked meat was like. Next time. 'Cause there will be a next time!

The owners warmly greeted me when I entered. Mrs got up to wait on me. Within minutes my order was ready to go. Unfortunately I wasn't up to par so I didn't inspect everything like usual. However I was impressed with my $11 with tax Rib Sandwich. They cared enough about customer satisfaction to purchase quality containers for their orders. It closed well enough to prevent sauce from leaking out plus maintained the temperature of my food since it was quite a while before I was home and ready to eat. My bones were sliced and completely dipped in a thick dark homemade unique sauce. I tasted better than any other restaurant's bbq sauce I've tried. Both slices of my bread soaked up the sauce and was infused with the scent of the warm spices in the sauce. I wished I had ordered extra sauce and bread since I wrapped bread around two of the bones. That was a new way of eating for me. Was it the sauce? The meat was extremely tender and delicious. I prefer Baby Back ribs but my order was so well prepared I wasn't disappointed I was eating a large bone with the end piece that I normally try to avoid. I think it was because of that delicious sauce and that it had been slowly rendered so there wasn't any fat or tough gristle. I have absolutely no complaints about my rib sandwich. I can't wait to go back when I feel well to try their sides and other items. I've heard their pork sandwich's are wonderful too. I wish them well and congratulations. Hueytown is hard on their businesses. So far there are nothing but rave reviews on social media so that speaks volumes!

This is not merely a restaurant; it is a vital repository of traditional, pit-cooked technique that sets a benchmark for the entire state. The Art of the SmokeThe kitchen's true triumph lies in its execution of pork. The ribs and rib tips are a masterstroke of patience, exhibiting a flawless mahogany bark and a distinct pink smoke ring that cannot be faked. The Texture: The meat yields effortlessly from the bone without being mushy--a precision balance rarely achieved in modern barbecue. The Flavor: The smoke profile is robust yet sophisticated, never overpowering the intrinsic sweetness of the high-quality pork.A Symphonic Supporting CastA critic often judges a barbecue joint by its peripheral offerings, and Uncle Sam's sides are far from an afterthought. The Baked Beans: A complex, deeply savory reduction that balances rich molasses sweetness with a sharp, smoky undertone. It earns an enthusiastic five stars and remains an essential pilgrimage for any serious culinary enthusiast.

My guy and I visited one afternoon recently. We live on the opposite area of town but had read…read more great reviews so we decided to visit for ourselves. Upon entering, we told Mr Oli (the owner) that it was our first visit. Not only did he explain the menu in great detail to us, but he gave us samples of the chicken salad, lamb and baklava while we made our decision on what we were ordering. I had my mind set on the chicken kabobs, but changed after he showed me a plated salmon meal. It was cooked just as I like it so I ordered one for myself. My guy, who isn't big on trying new things, opted for the lemon pepper wings and fries combo. However, he did agree to try the gyro meal on our next visit. We also ordered a special dessert Mr Oli told us was a secret recipe from his wife that could only be found at his restaurant. I was excited to try it! A short time later, our food was brought to our table by Mr Oli. My salmon was cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. The salad was fresh and the dressing complemented it well. The pita bread was served warm and the hummus was creamy and flavorful. My guy enjoyed his wings and said that he could taste the special touch Mr Oli put on them. The dessert was something special. Crispy, and fried golden with a unique taste, it definitely was something we would order again on our next visit. It wasn't sweet but met the needs of a sweet tooth calling. If that makes any sense, lol. The creamy cheese filling reminded me of a decadent cheesecake. The ambiance gave quaint neighborhood eatery. As we sat and waited on our food, we saw regulars come in and order. They chatted with Mr Oli as he prepared their orders. He's super friendly and I want to see his business thrive. Great customer service, delicious, healthy food at comparable prices makes for a 5 star review. I can't wait to return for the chicken kabobs!

A Masterclass in Culinary Disappointment As someone who…read morefrequently reviews the local dining scene, I enter every establishment with an open mind and a hopeful palate. Mediterranean cuisine, in particular, relies heavily on the vibrancy of fresh herbs, perfectly balanced acidity, and succulent, expertly spiced meats. Unfortunately, my recent dinner at Olipita Mediterranean & American Grill was an absolute failure on all fronts. Let's start with the execution--or complete lack thereof. We began with the hummus, which lacked the necessary garlic-lemon brightness and possessed a pasty, un-emulsified texture. It was served alongside pita bread that was noticeably stale and stiff around the edges, lacking that pillowy warmth essential to a good Mediterranean starter. The entrees were where the meal truly fell apart: The Gyro Plate: The shaved beef and lamb lacked any semblance of juiciness. It was dry, incredibly over-salted, and bore the distinct, leathery texture of meat that had been languishing under a heat lamp for far too long. The Chicken Kabab Wrap: The chicken was disastrously overcooked and rubbery. The "house spices" advertised on the menu were virtually undetectable, leaving the protein completely bland. To compound the kitchen's technical errors, the service was utterly stagnant. Despite a mostly empty dining room, the kitchen took nearly 40 minutes to dispatch two simple plates. Once the food dropped, our server vanished entirely--leaving us with empty water glasses and no opportunity to send back the virtually inedible dishes. Ambition is nothing without execution. Olipita charges premium casual prices but delivers an experience that falls short of a standard fast-food drive-thru. For a concept that claims to bridge cultures, it succeeds only in alienating the diner. Unsalvageable.

It is a seasonal holiday sandwich. The sandwich itself was massive, and the size of my hand. The cranberry was vinegary-- I could tell it was a struggle to make it savory, however cranberry is inspirational because it fits with savory foods being it's naturally sweet self. The turkey didn't satisfy my deep fried needs, but it was sliced nice and thick. The bacon by itself tasted peppered, as it stated. The flavor was not very loud during the entire bite. The mayonnaise was a very nice touch. I probably wouldn't have liked it if they had replaced it with something like honey mustard. The lettuce and tomato was also a nice addition. I also believe this sandwich can be eaten cold or hot. Either way. I give the sandwich a 6/10.

Today I decided to do a random food pick on Uber Eats and I stumbled on Wylam Wings & Things. I was…read morelike hmmm never heard of them so I looked it up and food actually looked pretty good. I read a ton of reviews on Google Reviews after seeing they had a 3.9/5 stars. So I said it can't be that bad. On top of the bad reviews I noticed the owner had commented back to a lot of them and it was very rude and unprofessional comments and taking no ownership. A few of the bad reviews even said in them that the owner was very unprofessional. I also noticed from looking at my food and the food other people ordered, it's clear as day that there is no consistency whatsoever. With that being said let's get into what I ordered. Disclaimer: majority of the food showed up soggy due to the delivery and the driver delivered other food before mine but the food still showed up very hot and ahead of schedule so I'm not holding that against them. First up the Chicken & Waffles: Waffle was extremely bland and very tough. I chewed it for awhile before I was able to swallow it. That waffle took all the moisture out of my mouth I ran to grab a bottle of water. Chicken was okay decently seasoned but tasted like they only used salt. 6/10 I ordered a 4 piece Buffalo wings but what I received is a 4 and a half order of "Buffalo wings". On top of that they tasted like they were dunked in hot sauce and had a strong sour flavor. These were not Buffalo wings. You can even see where the butter separated from the sauce. The wings were worse than Little Caesars wings. 4/10 Chili cheese dog tasted like bologna and the chili itself tasted like a blander version of Hormel canned chili. 5/10 The Cheeseburger was rough it was clearly a processed frozen patty like you'd get out of a prison commissary vending machine or a school lunch cafeteria. It was a dry tire mess. 3/10 Lastly the cheese fries. I actually spit this out. The fries were soggy and not seasoned and the cheese was extremely sour it was clearly old cheese or just the worst cheapest brand of cheese you can buy or both. 0/10. I also ordered Tacos and I did not even get them. So on top of trash food I am missing food that I paid for. Will not try this again.
