This is a Bessemer staple. It's been around for a LONG time. Nothing fancy but friendly, good service and reasonably priced food. My guys got burgers, ribs, and wings. Classic Burger and BBQ is an old school burger joint that lives up to the definition of an old-school, hole-in-the-wall burger dive. Classic Burger and BBQ definitely could use a serious face-lift. But I guess that could be said for the whole neighborhood that Classic Burger and BBQ was in. But I have to add that the service here was extremely friendly and professional and the place was also clean. I went with the burger and French fries combo. It came out pretty quickly. They call your number and you go grab your food. So, one thing that I did notice is that they did not melt my cheese on my cheeseburger. The bun was also a bit too big for the cheeseburger. Still, it was a decent cheeseburger and French fries. I have definitely had better burgers and I definitely had worse, but it is still good to see an old-school burger joint operating when so many look to the fast-food giant names instead of these local places. read more

Just in town for the week filling in at the Veterans hospital here in Bessemer so I looked for a good burger & this burger dive stop did not disappoint ! The kind blonde woman who recommended the # 1 and the cool girl with the turquoise hair were great ! Some of the best and sweetest tea I've ever had , burger was so good and the baked beans were freaking amazing ! A little out of the way and kind of a hole in the wall with big portions, good food and shockingly low prices. Order at the window and take a seat and they'll call you to come and pick up your food. Extra sweet tea for all you sweet tea lovers out there. Burgers in a variety of sizes to suit anyone, and family combos if you want to just pick up a bunch of food and go. I tried a bit of the pulled pork and the ribs and both were just fine. The people were friendly and the servicer was quick. A bit hard to find for out of towners, but more the city's fault with numbered avenues AND-numbered streets. Very confusing! BBQ sauce is nice and tangy. I got the half pound burger and asked them to cook it rare/med~rare and it was PERFECT! The cheese was standard American cheese which wasn't melted (so I'd skip that next time), but the bun was grilled and really yummy all around. Baked beans were good. My friend got the chicken sandwich and she reported it to be very good. It was a huge size too. 'I would definitely go back (a lot) if I lived close by. They did a lot of drive through business. Okay classic barbecue! I see you Bessemer! I finally got my chance to try you. We are a whole party of 6! We ordered lots of stuff. We got a rib plate, your staple, with baked beans and fries, a chicken salad with ranch, a cheeseburger combo with an extra hamburger all the way, a chicken sandwich combo with an extra chicken sandwich and a chili dog. Yes, you go girl at the window! Every thing was present and accounted for when completing our box check. I must say, you are good classic barbecue. We had one disgruntled item in the bag. Driving from NC to North Louisiana is a long slog. And finding good food that's not a chain is always our goal. I mean who drives 9 hours to go to McDonalds? Classic is 5 minutes off the freeway. OK, not a great neighborhood, but parking is right in front so no worries and the minute you get out you'll smell the pit and you'll know you made the right choice. We had ribs, chicken, wings, fries, rings and slaw. Everything had a fabulous smokey flavor and the sauce rocked--you'll be sopping that up with your bread so you don't miss a drop! The kids had burgers and they were really good and no fuss about fixing them just how you like it. Everyone was super friendly (and that's another nice change from the chains) and the owner came out to greet us and so did some locals Food came out fast and hot, so you're not taking too long if your traveling. So break those fast food chains and try some local flavor--you'll be glad you did. read more

My wife and I tried this restaurant for the first time today. We were looking for a hotdog joint. So I asked Siri to locate the nearest hotdog joint to us at the time. This restaurant came up on the radar. So the wife and I decided to try it. We were excited to try out a new joint. Unfortunately, this restaurant came up short to our expectations. We ordered two of the classic hotdog combos. We also ordered a 12 piece buffalo wings plate. I asked were the hotdogs grilled. I was told they are grilled. Well that wasn't a complete truth. The hotdogs tasted bland and boiled. I asked for chili on one mine. And my wife asked for slaw on one of hers. They were both awful! The chili and slaw lacked flavor. Needless to say, the hot dog combos were sad and pitiful. However the wings had flavor themselves. But add the BBQ sauce and you got a bland taste of ketchup and hot sauce. They did give nice sized portions. And the tea was delicious!!! The service was great and the employees were nice. But the food came up short in our opinions. I wish them success in the future. But we won't be back unless some flavor changes are made. read more

On a journey of a lifetime moving our family from Charlotte, NC to Yucaipa , CA, we stopped at Classic BBQ & Burgers in Bessemer, AL b/c after living out of suitcases already for 4 days and on our first leg of the journey, we can't face another Big Mac. Holy hamburger heaven batman! When I was a kid I loved Burger King Woppers. Huge tasty burgers with lots of stuff on them. Got a little drippy with juices and sauces as you got into it. These days Burger King has fallen off and lots of burger joints have lots of burgers but they have all kinds of crazy stuff like cheese I can spell. This isn't that kind of place. It is a classic burger full of flavor. It's big and tasty. Full of juice and just perfect. The fries portions are huge and I rarely finish them but that burger?.........one of THE best in the Birmingham area. I love this place. The prices are reasonable also. Lunch here was a solid, good experience for my awesome daughter and I. This is a no frills, diner kind of place. The layout is kind of odd but it works...You stand in a doorway which leads to the kitchen to place your order. Then you pick up your food in a more traditional service window. It looked like there was mostly a crowd of regulars who knew the way things work and were just fine with it. So, I was too. My daughter had hot dogs with chili and cheese. She said they were really good and she was impressed with the chili sauce. I had a burger. I chose the regular 1/4 lb. burger. There is an option for a "classic" burger which is a smaller burger with limited toppings. My hamburger was really good. Served nicely, just the right amount of the condiments and not too greasy. I actually had the two ribs next to each others...One was from the most famous place in town (packed_sells t-shirt too) and "classic burger"... a little more off the beaten track. Those are the BEST ribs I ever had. The sides were generous and tasty (but I was not crazy about there mac'n cheese_that will be my ONLY restriction_) I would drive back from Canada to eat here again!! read more

I thought their potato salad was really good. The ribs decent, though swimming in too much sauce. The quality of the rib was a little better than some other similar style places. None of the meats (pork, chicken, ribs, wings) have even a hint of wood smoked flavor which makes it hard to really call this a BBQ joint. Having a solid smoky flavor to the meat, that stands on its own with out any sauce, is kind of rule number one for great bbq. Chicken was okay not great. Pulled pork actually tasted a little off and I wouldn't try that again (normally pulled pork is my favorite type of barbecue). The hot wings tasted like they had been in a salt bath, and were way too salty for me. Growing up in a house that salted pretty much everything, that is saying a lot. I thought they had the perfect amount of heat, but just couldn't get over the saltiness long enough to really enjoy it. All in all I might return again for ribs just for a change of pace from the other barbecue places I frequent, or maybe I'll try a burger next time. read more

Forget Jim N Nicks, forget Bob Sykes, forget Dreamland - this is by FAR the best BBQ I've ever had, and I've had a LOT. Classic has a vinegar-based sauce that's thick enough to stand up to the meat and is perfectly spiced. Their pulled meat and ribs are absolutely to die for, and they manage to make some excellent burgers too. Call ahead and pick up from the drive through if it might be busy, the parking's pretty limited. read more
