Plantation House is a lovely restaurant in a beautiful old house. It's homey and charming. There's outdoor seating and a large yard with a gazebo. It's perfect for kids needing to burn some energy. They normally serve German food here but I went on Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving buffet was absolutely delicious. The buffet had a salad bar with green salad, broccoli, three bean salad, cranberry sauce, cucumber salad, and cherry fluff. The main buffet had ham, turkey and gravy, green beans, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, cornbread dressing, corn, macaroni and cheese, turnip greens, cornbread and yeast rolls. The dessert bar had Black Forest cake rolls, blueberry delight, pumpkin crumble, apple pie, and chocolate chip pound cake. The service was friendly and warm. I ate here for the first time on a Sunday. Buffett style with a lot of choices. Fried chicken and pork was very good. Wide assortment of vegetables including fried okra, cabbage and black eyed peas . Little disappointed they did not have cornbread. Bread pudding was good also. Waitress kept our tea refilled and removed our used plates. We will be back! read more

This is a good clean well decorated place to eat. Feels like eating at home, at least if you're southern and used to vegetables, fried chicken, and homemade dessert. German night is on Friday, during the week give a call to get a description of what's on the bar, as it may change from week to week. The owner is authentically German, and in October there is usually beer served over the period of a week or two, those are only times alchohol is served at this location. I spent five years in Germany eating German food from Kaiserslautern to Garmisch to Berchtesgaden; not saying I'm an expert but I have had some German food. This review is on the Friday night German buffet. The meats were fried fish, Schnitzel and sausage with sauerkraut. The fish and Schnitzel batter tasted the same; no seasoning and over cooked. The mushroom gravy was watery and again no seasoning. The sausage was good but over cooked. The sides were roasted Brussels sprouts-good, pineapple casserole-good, red cabbage-good, macaroni and cheese, corn, peas with carrots-ok, stewed tomatoes. The pretzel bread was good. The desserts were served cold and were ok. The total price for two with drinks was $28...a little pricey. If you really want to eat some German food drive up to Huntsville. read more

We ate on Friday night as there was German cuisine on that night. There were four adults and by and large we were not impressed. There is the standard salad bar and it had a brocolli salad that was passable. The entrees were less than adequate. I ate the sausages and kraut. There were two types of sausage, with one cooked with the kraut, the other not. Both were good, but nothing to impress me enough to want to come back. The three other diners ate the weinerschnitzle. All three stated first thing that it was over cooked, dry and chewy. There were sides of Brussels sprouts and beets. I tried both and found them to be so-so. I would have liked German potato salad, but the remaining sides were heavy on American fare, such as mac and cheese. Desserts were weak, at best. I was surprised that it was a "German" restaurant, with plenty of decorations relating back to Germany, to include a full wall of beer steins, yet they served no beer. 2/5 - will not eat there again. read more

I have been to the Plantation House for German Buffet at least 4 times, so far. It has been plentiful and tasty every time. The schnitzel was tender and I really dig the mushroom gravy that is available to pour over it. I loathe traditional Southern style banana pudding, but I admit that I do love Chef Renata's banana mousse. The service is friendly and it seems that as soon as I finish a plate/bowl, it is whisked away quickly. The whole experience reminds me of my time in the USArmy while stationed in Bavaria. I recommend it... especially when hungry. I just wish I had room for more. read more

The food was not good. The fried chicken had no seasoning. When I walked into the restaurant the workers did not speak when we entered the restaurant. There was an older lady that was talking to one of the staff unprofessionally and loudly. The restaurant could use some cleaning. This is going to be short and to the point. Service is great! Food is okay. The salad bar lettuce was brown and wilted. The spaghetti was obviously a few days old. Overall the place is kinda cool, service is great but will probably not go back. It's too bad cause we really wanted to like it. My family stopped here for Sunday lunch as we were traveling and it was delicious! The buffet is about $11 for adults and half price for kids. The staff is very friendly. We enjoyed the fried chicken, fish, hush puppies, corn, potatoes, beans, cabbage, broccoli casserole and rolls. There is also a salad bar and a dessert case. My family and I ate there for the Sunday buffet they offer, which I will say we all enjoyed, the food was well prepared. The disappointment came once we went to pay for our meals and noticed some interesting wall art hanging on the wall. The art displayed was different depictions of slavery, such as black people working in the fields while the white man looked on portraying the "master". There were several pictures that suggested poking fun of those times, and as a young, black,female that lives in the Millbrook community I was really disappointed to see those hanging up and found it to be in a poor taste. My family and I are very proud of our heritage and as paying customers ,as well as, people on staff that are black my hope is that consideration for that time in history not be represented with those pictures and can be replaced with pictures that are not degrading. read more

First I'm not giving this place a one star rating as I actually left because the food looked so awful. Having lived in Germany, I was excited when my wife offered up a German restaurant that I didn't know about in the area. Well, since there website is just a single page with an old picture and there is also no information nor menu on their FB page, so I did not know what I was in for. I had anticipated being able to have a sit-down dinner and order from a menu of various German specialties. I couldn't have been more wrong. First off, I gagged and almost vomited from the smell of the garbage (grease pit kind of smell) as we walked across the short parking lot. Then when we walked up, and then around to the back side where the entrance actually is, the place seemed cluttered and messy. The German kitschy decor was cute, but it was hard to determine the dining tables from the employee break tables. We were then told that that night, a Thursday, was spaghetti night. German spaghetti? Not what I had planned on, and again had no clue from their website nor FB page that this "German restaurant" only had German food on Friday nights. Also, This is not an 'order off menu restaurant', but a small buffet restaurant. Fortunately my wife asked if we could look at the buffet before being seated. So glad we did! There was plain spaghetti, some simple meat sauce, a ziti-type noodle casserole(?) and maybe two vegetables. On the other short bar was a sad looking salad bar. This set-up actually reminded me of a middle school cafeteria, both in selection and quality, as the food was not readily identifiable and the area was dirty and unkept. I really wanted to try their German food, but after this experience, I'm really afraid to go back, and the food will never taste right as that out front stench will always remain in the back of my throat for this place. read more
