If you like good fried chicken this is a place to check out. This was my first time and the person checking me out was so helpful in helping me figure out the menu to meet my needs. I ordered two orders of fried chicken and got two pieces of catfish with blacked peas, Mac n cheese, and got both the cornbread and the roll (yes, I'm fat). The peas were good like home grown, the Mac n cheese was a bit dry like a casserole but had the flavor of well made goodness, the catfish also very good that was both crispy and moist and a pleasant flavor. THE CHICKEN: it has a medium crispy crust with a mild seasoning which still allows you to grab the fresh skin off the thigh and taste that natural caramelized fried chicken skin (the money shot). The breast was moist in the center, the brine had decent penetration. I would give the chicken a 7.9 out of 10. For reference KFC is a 5 out of ten. Honestly, if I married a beautiful skinny 20 year old and she cooked this good and ten years later she weighed 300lbs and someone ask me why I stuck around, I'd say try her cooking. I think this place has potential but needs some help. I got the fried chicken and it was pretty dry and it was dark meat. My sides was great. Cabbage and fried green tomatoes with corn. Only one person was doing everything. Order at the counter. Nice people that may just be getting started. Going to try it again and we will see how it goes. Well, apparently the owners of this place took the other two Yelp! reviews to heart because this place is AMAZING! We were greeted when we came in the door. Everyone in the place was super friendly. I had white meat fried chicken, mac & cheese, black-eyed peas and cornbread. If I was going to complain about anything, I prefer my black-eyed peas with more juice so I can dunk my cornbread. But that is not really a complaint. The seasoning for the black-eyed peas were perfect. The fried chicken was not greasy and had great seasoning. I like my mac & cheese creamy and this was. My wife asked the big guy behind the counter if the catfish was good, he reassured her by offering a money back guarantee. She had fried catfish, black-eyed pea and green beans. She said her catfish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. She really enjoyed it and her veggies. Don't waste your time or money. Been in there twice now and the food is horrible. The first time the hamburger steak looked like it was a Swanson hamburger steak patty. The second time, the macaroni and cheese was soured and they didn't even afford to get us anything else to replace it. Just saying we won't be back. read more
