The ambience was nice. It was a small seating area comfortable I enjoyed the food. I most definitely will be back to try the items on the menu.

They were constantly out of things that you were asking for that were on the menu. The chef was having a bad night. The food was not worth the price. I ordered overpriced truffle fries and literally received crinkle cut fries with some type of truffle oil on them, which were totally different from another table, not far from mine who ordered the same thing and got a totally different style of fry. I don't understand how you serve two different types of fries for the same item on the menu. It was way overpriced for the experience received. They were using staff from upstairs at the bar and the night just was not great at all. Unfortunately, it did not impress the guests that were from out of town as well. I will say the interior design is very nice but for such a new restaurant I was very surprised at the experience. I think this restaurant may be going through a lot of launch and staffing challenges.

This place definitely deserves its 5 stars…read more Our server Lyle was very polite and took her time to find out the specials and review the menu with us. When we asked about drinks she brought over the bartender Josh, who was just as awesome! He made us a few bartender special beverages and you could taste the passion this man has for the job! Bravo to the staff, if we lived locally this would be a spot we would frequently regular at! The inside of the restaurant felt very grounded and well put together, and the patio looked just as cozy! We were recommended the Caesar salad from a server we ran into outside the restaurant which is what brought us into the restaurant. They make an in house dressing which had great flavor notes! The croutons were nice and airy, and the lettuce was perfectly crispy, a great Caesar salad. We ordered the cowboy burger and the steak sandwhich as our entrees with a side of Brussel sprouts and green beans. The burger was fantastic! Great balance of ingredients and a good size burger, very filling. The steak on my sandwich was so tender but it was a bit salty for my taste. My brussel sprouts also felt a little undercooked, but I still believe this restaurant deserves five stars because of the service they provide and the menu they curated

Fried green tomatoes was ordered for the appetizer... (which i couldn't get to try, allergies')... everyone seemed to have enjoyed them... Everything was great until two of our staff tasted their pineapples that were ontop of their glazed chicken. The fruit didn't taste right so they had to reorder..

The latter, a horrible disease brought on by lack of protein, ran rampant among African Americans whose diets lacked it. In the 1920s, canned salmon could be had for pennies. Add an egg and you'd have enough protein to stave off the disease for a week. The inventive cooks in the Black community found ways to make it delicious, by adding chopped onion and binding it with the salmon liquor from the can and breadcrumbs. Like so many Southern dishes that arose from need, the salmon croquette has kept the spot it earned on the soul food roster. The salmon patty was a reputed favorite of author William Faulkner who was said to enjoy them quite a lot with liquor. (Or with quite a lot of liquor, I'm unsure which.) An excellent salmon patty can be had at Greg's Breakfast Bar. According to the sign on the front door, it's the best in Alabama, and I'll not dispute it. It's what I ordered on this most recent visit and although I've not personally sampled its rivals, it would be hard to imagine a better one. When I was a kid, my own mother--who grew up during the Depression--made them every Tuesday. (Greg's may be better. Sorry, Mom.) There's no liquor served at Greg's, so I had to eat my salmon croquette with coffee. For $10 at Greg's, you too can sample the best salmon croquette in Alabama. Other local faves like Conecuh sausage line the GBB menu. Eggs and grits accompany the breakfast plates, which make up the left half of the menu. Breakfast sandwiches occupy the other half. Greg's is open early (5:30 a.m. if memory serves), and stays open until lunchtime. When my travels take me through Montgomery--as they did last week on a drive from Pensacola to Atlanta--Greg's is a quick detour off of 65 or 85. I timed my drive accordingly. The interior is classic diner, vinyl and stainless . SEC memorabilia and signed player photos decorate the place. Everybody seems to know Greg. The crowd is local. Parking limited. Makes no difference. Park on the street.

The service was…read moretruly top-notch -- our server kept the pink lemonade flowing, which we definitely appreciated during our late Saturday brunch. I ordered the French dip sandwich with au jus. At most restaurants, the au jus can be bland or forgettable, but this one was rich, full-bodied, and incredibly flavorful. It elevated the entire sandwich. My husband and sons each ordered the chicken and waffles, and not a single bite was left behind. Every piece was eaten -- which says everything. My only small criticism would be that the thick-cut fries could have used just a few more seconds in the fryer. Other than that, perfection. For four of us, the total came to around $80 before tax and tip -- an excellent value for the quality of food, service, atmosphere, and location. We will definitely be back.

Rather thin and rubbery. I requested it with Grilled onions and mushrooms I got a mound of Mush gravy spread over the steak (spread because it was a failed attempt at a Gravy). With raw onions in it. The menus were faintly printed in small script font the seating arrangement is a bit overcrowded as well. We had to move our TABLE for a gentleman in another party to sit at his table. We felt intruded throughout the remainder of our dinner. Their conversation was literally ours. 243 South definitely has the vision of the assignment to bring the next level dining experience to a small town. I encourage them to keep trying perhaps pay more attention to the customer comforts rather than the Bougie dispositions. and get your cooks lessons. C+
