Entering the Legacy Museum with tickets to enter between 1:30-2pm, our group ate at the museum's cafe. For a Saturday, the line wasn't super long to get food at 1:10pm, but it did move very slowly. Factor that in your time. To eat, they have a buffet line of meats and veggies. For $12, I got a veggie plate of broccoli casserole, cabbage, and creamed corn. For museum food, it tasted good. The plate came with a cup for the fountain drinks (Coca-Cola products). There's plenty of seating in one large dining room. There are outlets for charging along the walls.

This was my fav place for classic Southern food in Montgomery. I had two different work trips in Montgomery this year. I ordered individually (which warning, can take awhile if there's a line) & also ordered catering and used their private room for a work event. That worked very smoothly & folks really enjoyed the food. The only exception was a so-so comment on the greens but still I would get them again. If you want trusted good ol' southern food, go here! They also have fish for a gluten free option.

Yum, yum, yummy! Wonderful selection of choices. The roasted chicken was moist and delicious. The broccoli cheddar casserole was excellent. The service while paying was not the best. No where to be found until our meal was over and then she lectured us the entire time. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The interior is great! Very fun and clean as well.

Cafeteria style restaurant located in the Legacy Museum. One chooses their protein and two sides. One pays the cashier and sits down. There is plenty of seating. The mac n cheese was good and cheesy; I also enjoyed their fried fish. Great food!

We visited this cafeteria-style restaurant for lunch after visiting the attached Legacy Museum in early April, 2025. It was pouring rain outside, and the restaurant was busy with hungry people taking refuge from the weather. We were cold and wet and looked forward to some hot food. The restaurant offers a selection of southern style meats and vegetables, with choices that change daily. The cafeteria worker was helpful in opening the lids for us to see the day's offerings. My husband selected the fried chicken (very good), rice with gravy (bland), green bean casserole (tasty but salty), sweet potato casserole (mushy, sweet), and a cornbread muffin (good). I selected chicken and rice casserole (good, but very little meat and salty), green bean casserole (tasty but salty), corn on cob (soggy), and a cornbread muffin (good). Pricing was very confusing. There were different screens above the cafeteria line that were rotating (too quickly for us to comprehend in a cafeteria line): (1) today's meats; (2) today's vegetables; (3) a list of premium meats (which you pay an extra $2 for); and (4) options for meals: for example, three veggie plate ($11); one meat and one veggie plate ($11); four veggie plate ($12); one meat and two veggie plate ($14); one meat, three veggies, and one dessert ($18). Per their website, all of the meal options come with your choice of bread (including cornbread muffins) and a fountain beverage. My husband's meal ended up being one meat + 3 vegetables ($16) while mine was one premium meat + 2 vegetables (also $16 because of the premium meat). The meals were served on disposable plates with plastic utensils. Seating was plentiful and clean. A table with self-serve bottles of sauces was available. Overall, our experience was just okay, and we probably would not return to this restaurant. (1) The biggest issue was that both of our meals were only lukewarm, not hot. (2) We learned from the restaurant's website, after leaving, that our meals should've come with fountain drinks. We didn't realize this and were never offered glasses, and the cashier worker didn't mention this when my husband ordered a bottle of soda which we paid separately for. (3) my meat, the chicken and rice casserole, should not have been classified as a "premium meat" for which there's an extra charge as there was almost no meat in the dish.

been a couple times -- does not disappoint. maybe literally a couple bucks more expensive than a regular family restaurant, but makes sense given the convenience and location. whole plate and a drink came out to around $17 with tax (fish is $2 extra). catfish came with hushpuppies and everything was DELICIOUS (southerner here)!! the cornbread especially was so good i came back for seconds. no frills, friendly cafeteria-style service. ambience was so balanced i don't remember anything putting me off.

My neighbor and I were looking for a place to eat lunch other than fast food . He remember a mutual friend mentioning Pannie-George's. Arrived just as they were opening for lunch. Our order of chicken wings, mac and cheese, green beans, corn muffins, meat loaf, mashed potatoes, fried pork chops were on spot. The food was delicious and well seasoned.Special kudos for the meatloaf. The cashier was very courteous and helpful! The facility is very spacious with historic decor. I am planning a return visit soon.

I have thought long and hard about this review. First off, I was extremely aggravated they charge a fee for a to go box!!! Excuse me so there's a penalty for not finishing your meal. Weird The day we visited was kind of late for lunch. That being said the options were limited/slim. This was kind of understandable but still disappointing. My meal consisted of two small grilled pork chops(you pay extra) , rice and gray and pinto beans. No color on the plate .... Everything neutral in color. They had no green vegetables to choose from. Overall, everything was seasoned nicely. There were a few bites of undercooked rice I had to battle through. My mom had fried chicken. I don't recall her sides. The fried chicken wasn't anything special. I learned that this restaurant is attached to a museum. A museum I had no prior knowledge of. I look forward to visiting the Legacy Museum soon! This is a basic cafeteria set up. No bells and whistles. You go through the line, pay and seat yourself. Pretty clean and spacious. Staff were friendly enough. I would return but I definitely will get my food to go so that I'm not charged .55 in the event I don't eat all my food.

Fried chicken breast Cornbread muffin Sweet potato casserole Broccoli casserole

Customer service-5 stars Fried chicken- some of the best homemade fried chicken I've eaten outside of family gatherings really I felt like I was at my granny's house Broccoli casserole-2 stars too much cream cheese rice was mushy texture similar to baby food Sweet potato casserole- 4 stars the chicken really balanced out the sweetness overall a good meal

We enjoy our delicious soul food lunch at Pannie-George's. This beautiful cafe open just a few years back at this location. It's connected to the Legacy Museum. The setup is cafeteria style, you get to select from different meats and sides. Everything I tried was quite flavorful. The greens were so good, I didn't even add hot sauce. Black eyed peas were tender, cornbread was great and of course the chicken was fantastic. We experienced pleasant service from the serving staff and the hostess at the register. The ambiance was nice. We dined on a Sunday afternoon, lots of college students, church folks, locals and tourists dined on this day. One thing I can say is people walked out with smiling faces. We walked it off, right after... walked into the Legacy Museum for an incredible history lesson.

It was a good southern cooked meal for a cafeteria style restaurant. This location is at The Legacy Museum. It really does enhance the whole experience. I totally recommend dining here after you've been through the museum exhibits and prior to heading out on the shuttle to the memorial site. It's a great way to recharge in between visits. I originally wanted fried catfish, but they didn't have it available that day. The servers behind the hot plates were very helpful in identifying what was there. The person in front of me asked if the dish in front of us was burger steak. It was an easy decision after that. That's exactly what I wanted. The nice gentleman behind the counter came over to make sure that burger steak was served properly with all the onions and brown gravy. It ended up being the highlight of my meal. I also selected mac & cheese and sweet potato casserole for my 2 sides (1 meat & 2 veggie plate). The cornbread was recommended over the roll. It was all good, with the exception of the sweet potato. Not that there was anything bad with it. I just don't care for molasses, and this particular recipe was heavy on molasses. If you're a fan of sticky & sweet molasses, then this casserole is for you. Other than that, it was a quick & comforting meal. We were so hungry after spending 3 hours going through The Legacy Museum. This meal hit the spot for us. The restaurant was clean, open, and bright. The booth seating was comfortable. Was it the best southern meal I've ever had? Not really, but it was still pretty good. I'd go back again. Hopefully they will still have that burger steak on the menu. It really was juicy and delicious.

Stopped by on a day visit to Montgomery. I spent a few years here in the past and it's refreshing to see new businesses establishing across the city; especially black owned ones. The restaurant is quite lovely and has a nice open modern feel to it. In addition to the food line itself, there's also a monitor displaying the menu for the day. The staff was kind and easily took my order. However, the food was a little disappointing. Though portion size was nice, the taste was lacking. The brown gravy was scorched and burnt. And the Mac was more egg roux than cheese. The meatloaf was good though and the greens, okay m

Martha's Place it is... Upon arrival, Martha's place looked very upscale. Very nice building and many Mercedes and Cadillacs were parked out front. We started to wonder if we'd wandered into some rich neighborhood where the prices would be sky high! We walked in and a young lady greeted us and told us that lunch was $14 including a drink. GREAT! Everyone in the restaurant was amiable and helpful. (Staff and customers). We went to the buffet and loaded our plates with beautifully fried chicken and meatloaf for our proteins. For our sides we had collards, mashed potatoes, black eyed peas a couple of pieces of cornbread and some banana pudding for dessert. Then, the first weird thing happened. As we took our seats, the waiter that helped us get seated, told us that they only had one fork and one knife. We assumed he meant he would go back to the kitchen (or the dishwasher, or wherever) and get us another set. Meanwhile, the food looked SO GOOD, we immediately began sharing the fork and taking turns. MAN! THIS FOOD WAS GREAT! After a couple of minutes, we noticed the second weird thing... we were the only two white folks in the entire, crowded restaurant. And there were LOTS OF PEOPLE. They also do a huge to go business, so, the buffet station stays pretty busy with people coming and going. But, during the entire time we were there, there was not a single non-black customer in the house, except us. Not an employee. Not a customer. Not even a to go customer, just passing through - NOBODY. After about 5 or 6 minutes of taking turns with the fork, we decided our server must've forgotten about us. So, my wife went and asked and was informed they still didn't have any forks. (No. We were not being singled out, as my wife heard them tell another customer the same thing.) My wife asked if they had some plastic utensils, used for to go orders. They were able to oblige. Back to the food... The fried chicken was as good as any I've ever had and much better than any I've had in recent memory. The vegetables were also seasoned and prepared as good as any I've ever had - in a restaurant OR at home. The cornbread didn't have real corn in it, (like I prefer) but it was still some KILLER CORNBREAD. And the nanner puddin' was off the charts. I REALLY WANT some more of that nanner puddin'!! The staff were friendly and helpful and I have no idea why we were the only white folks in attendance. Maybe it was just a weird coincidence. But, I'll tell you this. The nice people at this restaurant KNOW HOW TO COOK. And I highly recommend this restaurant to ANYBODY -- No matter what color you are! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and we look forward to dining there again, the next time we pass through Montgomery. Go here. You won't get a better country meal - anywhere. P.S. You might want to bring a fork.

Now, I don't know what has happened since then, but something did. To begin with, the place always looked "used". It had been there a long time and that's expected but this time the chairs looked badly worn and the carpet was in need of help. But it looked clean over all. The workers were friendly but very busy. They had a teenage boy who seated us who was in need of some grooming. But he was polite, so we let it slide. The waitress was very casual and nice as well. But it looked like this one poor lady was handling the entire side of the place by herself. I can overlook all of the above if the food is good but... To begin with, I ordered the same meal I ate in 2021 and yes, I remembered it! As a turkey lover, I recalled it as a Thanksgiving kind of meal that I enjoyed which was why I ordered it again. It was billed on the menu as: Sliced turkey, stuffing, three sides and cranberry sauce. I could eat Thanksgiving 365! And that first time was like reliving Thanksgiving at Moms. Not this time. Aside from being out of broccoli (which limited the green sides down to green beans and/or collard greens- which I do not like) there was an issue with things not being as presented in the menu. The "stuffing" or "dressing" was a small heap of mushy something. It was thin, watery and bland. Horrible! The "sliced turkey" was fractured white meat of turkey, fractured so much that it seemed to meld into the mushy dressing. The two were undiscernable. And it, too, was bland. There was something they called turkey gravy but it was definitely a canned or otherwise prepackaged gravy: bright yellow in color and gloppy in texture. The mashed potatoes were fine, a little salty but fine, though I am not sure if they were homemade or from mix or what. The "green beans" were not what I had before. Before I had what, at worst, had been frozen green beans, though well-seasoned and cooked through. This time I was given Italian beans from a can that had no flavor to them. And then there was the mac n cheese. The test of a good Mom and Pop place is the M&C and this batch failed. Over cooked elbow macaroni in a non-saucy glob of light orange gunk that tasted like flour and not cheesy at all. If that sounds bad, worse was the pie. They used to serve cake and some damn good cake, too! But we were told today they serve pies. I ordered the lemon meringue. I make lemon meringue pie so I know fully well what one should taste and look like and this was NOT it! The fill looked like leftover banana pudding with the bananas extracted. It wasn't set and the meringue slid off of it. The meringue itself had a wateriness that I couldn't quite figure out but it was lightly toasted on top. The corn muffins were good, though they could have gone without being dunked in butter. Over all, I cannot give this place the report I would have liked to have given a landmark in Montgomery. Its sad, too.
