We had a reservation for 7:30 pm. We weren't seated until 8:19. It's currently 9:11 pm, and we still haven't received our food. The drinks are top notch though. They were out of all appetizers, except for the crab cake, so we didn't get one. I'll be back to let you know how the food is. ** my return ** OK so we ordered the tomahawk pork chop and the filet mignon. The filet mignon was awesome. They hit that out of the park. However, the tomahawk pork chop, don't waste your money. That pork chop was so greasy that it could cure chapped lips in the wintertime across Alabama. I sent it back and the manager then tried to explain to me that it is the center cut and that is why it is so fatty. I told him that I understand it is a center cut. I have been frying pork chops for a long long time and not once have they ever been that greasy. I told him that you don't fry pork chops and stick them directly on a plate. You have to let them drain on paper towels, or a rack. Macaroni and cheese tasted like the mac & cheese that you get from Sam's Club or Costco and the family friendly packs. They also have a nice brunch buffet - I especially liked their fruit and pastry selections, especially that they had blackberries, a not always offered fruit. The sausage and bacon was good, but I'd skip the biscuits and gravy as they were cold and hard when I had them. Not much of a reviewer and I don't think I've ever left a negative review. But this was exceptional. The food was pretty good. The service, well... Our server spilled an expensive drink on me and the table, and said she'd bring another. We said thank you and went on with our meal. I had about half a drink in my glass (a martini, to be served "up") and most of the ice from the shaker. I drank what was there as our server never came back. Keep in mind, most of it was spilled anyway and my glass was mostly ice. She didn't come back until it was time to settle. I told her the other drink never came. She said "well, you drank that one." I responded that there was no other drink on the table and we hadn't seen her or the drink again. But that was fine if it was a misunderstanding. If it had ended there, okay. But she brought the serving tray back, and said to me... "see this shaker is empty. You drank it." If I were rude, I would've said, "no, you spilled it." But we paid up and left (including full price for the spilled drink). Fine dining should never feature rude service, a spilled drink and full price for something that was not served. Let me start by saying I have eaten here several times and had a great experience each time. Which is the reason I chose to take my niece who was visiting here for lunch. However, today's dining experience was disappointing. Upon entering we were not immediately greeted, because the server and hostess were having a conversation with their backs to the door. The server notices us waiting first and says nothing just stares at us. The hostess then greets us and shows us to our table, but not before stating that the server who failed to speak would be serving us. Upon which he chuckles before we walked off to be seated. After seating the server makes his way to us and takes our drink and appetizer orders. I always get the egg roll because they are so delicious. However, this time they were so greasy that the plate they were served on was covered in oil. The egg rolls themselves were also leaking oil with every bit as well. We both ordered the southern fried chicken, macaroni and greens. The meals arrived and the plating and overall presentation was subpar. The chicken while hot was dry and lacked any flavor. Neither of us took more than a few bites. The macaroni was edible but tasted like it had been made the day before or left out all day. The greens were tasty but cold. After taking our orders our waiter did not check on us once. He only returned after I motioned to him to request a check. Upon, requesting the check he did not ask how our meal were or ask if we needed to go boxes despite our nearly full plates. Another server which I assume was a shift leader asked how we were and I expressed that today was not up to the standards of what I know this place is capable of doing and I was not impressed with my experience. Overall, for the $95 dollars I spent we both left hungry and disappointed. It should also be mentioned that there was only us and another party of maybe 10 persons in the entire restaurant and most of the wait staff was conversing amongst themselves instead of tending to the two tables. read more

I had one of the best burgers ever here! For once, the burger actually looked like the photo provided on their website. Delicious. Cooked to perfection. Even more amazing were their French fries. I am not into FF at all, but these were so good I think I ate every one of them. Easily the best French fries I have ever had in my entire LIFE. We stayed at the Embassy Hotel during our trip, but I laughed at how they were losing their dining business to the Renaissance's restaurant, The House Restaurant. However, if you taste their Red Snapper Po Boys, you'll understand. Not to mention the Crab Cake (which is made for one, so make sure you order your partner one), made this meal top tier. However what pushed this restaurant to the next level, was the quality of customer service we received from a gentlemen managing the bar, Keino. When you speak with Keino you can hear that he still upholds the value of providing supreme customer service. He's alert and engaged, and the quality of his drinks are precise and down to a science. Stay long enough, he'll teach you everything about operating a bar, but be warned, he makes it look way easier than it actually is. To provide that level of service and engagement requires discipline and a respect for customers that a majority of businesses fail to implement. We might've originally gotten hooked by the Po Boys, but we'll be back for the experience provided by Keino. read more

They were unmanaged and unsupervised by a person who was unpleasant and unprofessional who identified herself as Shirley Moore. This was our second visit to The House for breakfast. It is located in the Renaissance Hotel. In a few words, it's no big deal. Our server was very sweet and pleasant Overall, the experience was subpar Here's why. A lack of proper staffing caused a short wait to be seated in a two thirds empty restaurant because the host was cleaning tables before he could seat anyone. No big deal. We were seated. We told our server we did not want the buffet, we'd like to order off the menu. She came back with one menu and said, "I'm still looking for another menu." No big deal, we'll share the menu. We ordered a Peach Melba Mimosa. After a few minutes, she came back, "we don't have those." No big deal, bring us a regular mimosa. We ordered and waited. First we had to check on the mimosa. "Oh, the bartender wasn't back there when I put in the order, I'll go check." Meanwhile while we waited we were able to observe that Renaissance class one expects. The table to our left had scrambled egg crumbs on it. The one to our right, a spray bottle of cleaner. No big deal, they were obviously under staffed. The food came and our wheat toast was cold and it was rye bread not wheat, no big deal. I like rye, just not at breakfast when I expect wheat. I had the snapper and the rest of our party of 8 had steaks. The "snapper" was not snapper, it was extremely meaty and not even close to the right texture for snapper. I suspect it was swordfish or some other cheaper fillet of fish. On top of that it was extremely over cooked. I was told the steaks were sub par to Texas Roadhouse! I ordered room service while staying at the Renaissance and it was awful. I ordered clam chowder to start. It was really thick and chewy - like a melted cheese more than a soup. I couldn't taste any clams. It seemed like there was a lot of sausage in it. I also ordered the eggplant Napoleon. I thought it would have fried eggplant but it had thick pieces of eggplant and I don't know how they were cooked. They didn't even taste grilled. They were just fat soggy pieces of eggplant.
