It is run by a husband-and-wife team from catering, food preparation to being the entire waiting staff - just the two of them doing everything. The food - southern cuisine - was already laid out buffet style in the main hall. At the far end of the hall were desserts. Drinks of water, orange juice and sweet tea were in the dining room to the left of the hall. Now the dining room is large enough area to accommodate a party of 40 (there were 28 of us). I don't care for southern cuisine, unless it's seafood. But I did like both fried and baked chickens, spinach and cabbages; had multiple helping of them. I wished rice was included. The abundance of spaces between the tables helped in reducing the noise level. I sat at one of the smaller tables so that helped a lot. The overall decor evokes a pre-1980s feel, and apparently so is the upkeep of the building. The service was good enough that I would have given it at least four stars. Then I went to the men's restroom. When I finished my business, I turned the doorknob to unlock and it came loose. I though: was the door unlocked the entire time? This was shocking. Anyone could have entered. For that, one star is removed. (Had someone entered while I was *ahem* busy, I would have deducted two stars.) The restroom doorknob issue is enough reason for me to not recommend O'Dessa's Blessings. I hope the owners have done something about that.

The buffet was equally impressive, both in its variety of offerings, as well as their deliciousness!

I'd recommend the dark meat as it was better. I had the greens, mashed potatoes, and black eyed peas. The greens could use some salt but everything else was 10/10. The place is not the cleanest-- floors needed vacuuming, chairs were held together with duck tape.. but I pressed on hoping the food would redeem the space. Service was friendly. However, it was awkward listening to the waiter/waitresses/hostess/ kitchen staff have a conversation with each other across the entire restaurant. This was especially true after a patron sent something back and the kitchen came out loudly exclaiming that they wanted to see the food that "wasn't good enough." I had the fried chicken, greens, okra, and mashed potatoes. The chicken was fantastic. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and the tastiest fried skin/breading. That's where the goodness stops. The turnip greens were flavorless and complete mush, as though they had been sitting on the heat all day. Mashed potatoes were clearly from a box based on the consistency, color and flavor. Gravy had no flavor as well. There wasn't enough salt on the table to make it all better. The okra came out about 15min after we got our plates. It was fresh, but again, flavorless. My husband had the fried pork chop. It was just okay -- cooked well, zero flavor. Butter beans were good flavor wise, but definitely seemed to have been sitting for a while. It was odd to us that the only things you could get to drink were water, tea, lemonade, milk, and coffee. The second star is only for the chicken. I doubt we'll go back because the above experience for $50 is not worth it.

Always very good and fun to sit there and sip away while chatting in a good environment. Now for the bad. The restaurant seems like they have just opened for business that day for the first time ever! It's absolutely ridiculous. The entranceway is not set up properly, so people jam in there and also have to wait outside just to place their orders, which always takes far too long. The person(s) working that front register always seem to not fully grasp what they are doing or how to provide good customer service. Everything just seems too lackadaisical. And the menu?! The menu is not good! I have been there many times, almost always against my will (for a luncheon or other function), and I and those I am there with are always so disappointed with how limited the menu is and how mediocre the food is. It's a wonderful environment, especially if you are sitting outside in one of the many Adirondack chairs provided (which is a major plus); but again, the restaurant just doesn't seem to have a clue overall. Food takes far too long and is always subpar. Again, they act as if they have never done this before, which is ridiculous. Once they get a handle on the restaurant situation, I will gladly return for a wonderful time in the great environment at the bar or outside relaxing. Please improve! I truly want you to succeed in a big way!
