Sinclair's was a decent spot, and I'm giving it a three for now -- with plans to come back. On this visit, I wasn't blown away by the food, the service, or the drinks. The vibe also felt a little off, but it was a busy Friday night and they seemed slammed, so I'm giving the benefit of the doubt. The crowd was mixed and the atmosphere has potential, but it wasn't as welcoming as many other local spots. In fairness, I didn't speak with the manager or owners yet, which I plan to do. I always try to support local businesses, and this used to be one of my favorite places before I left Montgomery over twenty years ago. Now that we've moved back, I want it to be great. Sinclair's is a staple for us locals! The atmosphere is fun, relaxing, and nostalgic! The food is always fresh and delicious! Definitely try the Fajitas on Tuesday and Thursday, they use fresh ingredients and Filet Mignon! The menu is great and has lots of options! Decided to order takeout from here last night since it had been a long time since I ate here and I was really disappointed in the meal I ordered of chicken quesadillas and greek salad. Both were not really fresh and the salad greens looked wilted. I ate 1/4 of everything before I trashed them. My companion got the fish and chips and they didn't look good either, most of it was burnt. $51 dollars wasted that I wish I could get back. Don't think I'll be going back again. read more

Thought I try Sinclair's since it had been awhile since I was last there. I arrived towards the end of the lunch rush was told that I could pick anywhere to sit. I sat close to the bar and sat there for a good 10 minutes before anyone even noticed I was there to offer me a menu. Once getting the menu I sat there for another 15 minutes while others who came in after me sitting got their orders taken. I had to ask the hostess as she was passing by if I could get my order taken. The food was ok..not something to write home about. I then had to wait another 15 minutes after eating for someone to give me the bill. Also upon leaving the front door was locked and no one informed me that I had to exit out of the side door...just happened to notice other patrons leaving out of that door. This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. We had a group reservation to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it was horrible from the minute we sat down. No menus or silverware! The food all came out at different times and one person never got theirs until we were leaving in a to go box. We all got our salads for dessert and never got our sides. All of the checks were mixed up and had to be fixed multiple times. We were there for 3 hours from the time we sat down just to eat. I have always liked this restaurant, but not anymore. Food: 3/5 Service: 1/5 Corn chowder: Best item that we ordered. It had kernels of corn in it. She crab soup: Smelled quite fishy. Not a fan. Sandwich: Nothing special. The bread kind of let me down. It was like a store bought soft sandwich loaf bread. Brie slices: My husband loves fried mozzarella so we decided to give these a go. I personally think the brie slices are too big for what it is. I love brie, but to have it on it's own, just fried up was not as pleasant as I thought it would be. The marinara was good, a bit on the sweet side. I think this was innovative, but not that great. Now for the service... We went on a Sunday, and yes it was PACKED. We were lucky to be seated quickly because it was just my husband and I. However our waitress was quite rude to us. We understood that they were short staffed, but I have been to plenty of restaurants that were short staffed, and never felt that disrespected. It was like we were an inconvenience to her. When the bill came, we told her that we had a coupon that we received (for helping local businesses) and she looks at it - and scoffs "oh my god". That honestly did it for us. Extremely unprofessional handling of the situation. Turns out the coupon isnt a big deal and it's easy to apply to the bill. Before that last encounter we were excited to be in a local restaurant with a lot of history. But when we walked out we agreed not to visit again. As of right now great place for lunch or dinner. The service took a bit of a dip during the height of the pandemic, but I'm glad they seem to be doing better now. I love the She-crab soup, it has been a favorite of mine since college. They used to serve a scallop Cesar salad, but I'm sure that had to stop because of the price of scallops. My new fav is the fish and chips, very good and satisfying. My daughter loves them too. I'm not sure if they still allow smoking on one side of the restaurant, but there's still a bit of a smoky smell when you walk in. I usually order out for this reason. They have a full bar and sometimes live music on the weekends. They also have an even space on a lower floor. read more

Grabbed some dinner to go from this neighborhood spot. Pasta and Crab Claws were cooked well but other than that this was a miss. I have had and made Chicken Piccata many times. This "interpretation" was odd. The chicken breast wasn't pounded out and it had been deep fried. The usual lemon butter sauce was replaced with a thick white gravy. At least there were capers in it. Restaurants are struggling. Not enough workers. People not eating out. So why would you NOT want customers? Their time listed online said they were open. The sign on the door said they closed at 2. It was 1:45, sorry, we don't want to be those people but we were hungry. Not many customers inside, so it's not like they were busy. Stepped inside. No one to greet us. Ok, I stepped further inside and they saw me but still didn't come greet me. Not to say "How are you guys?", "Glad you're here", Not even "Sorry, the kitchen is closed" (just ignore the sign that says 2 p.m.). We left. Guess where we won't be eating. I'll go somewhere they want my business. I know it's Montgomery, Alabama, and restaurant service sucks most anywhere you go. But come on. read more

Are you kidding me???? I, a restaurant worker, went with my niece, a restaurant worker, and my mother and great niece for a celebration. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I was a huge fan of the original Sinclair's and went there 2-3 times a week on the reg. So it was my choice to bring my fam to Sinclair's east for a celebration. Let me list the issues: - we were seated with attitude and without silverware or napkins. After the apps came I had to hunt around the restaurant to find napkins and silverware for my family -the server had the worst attitude. The kind you might find cute in a Midwest diner but not in a MGM staple. It took over an hour to get food. - ALL OF OUR FOOD WAS MESSED UP. The shecrab soup was wrong, just wrong. My niece ordered a steak med-well. It came out rare. She sent it back. It came back med-rare. The server poured water onto her baked potato when she finally came to "check" on us. And the rest of our food was equally screwed up. -I spoke at length with the manager about just how horrible our experience was. - bottom line: I have never EVER stiffed a server and I did. I admit it. She was completely and unapologetically the absolute worst server I have ever had. But here is the sore spot: I wanted to walk out. I have never walked out on any table in my entire life and now I seriously regret the fact that I didn't walk out. At the end of the day, I paid $60 for four completely uneaten meals and an absolutely crap experience. I will never come back. I will tell everyone I know that Sinclair's East is absolutely nothing like the original Sinclair's. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME GOING TO THIS "Sinclair's". This was my first time trying Sinclair's but I had heard great things for a while. The experience did not disappoint at all. They were very accommodating to our large group (7 total). Appetizers: fried mushrooms and she-crab soup. The fried mushrooms were decent and could have used a bit of seasoning, but the soup was EXCEPTIONAL. Main meal: executive burger. They let you pick a mix of fries and onion rings which was pretty neat. Unfortunately the onion rings were a big miss. They were chewy and just not good. The burger was on point, though and it came with bacon. They did not skimp AT ALL. A friend ordered the bananas foster for dessert and while not my favorite dessert, the bite I tried was incredible. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience and I will definitely be back to Sinclair's when I'm in town. read more

This place is apparently a neighborhood favorite. It is always full of diners. The menu is pretty standard American fair with your cheese sticks, salads, burgers, chicken and steak. Our server was friendly, but a bit slow with the ketchup but overall i give him a thumbs up for his service. He had recommended the Kowaliga Bites as an appetizer, which is lightly battered grouper served with a cocktail sauce and a tartar sauce. We really liked it. As for our main course, my husband got the mushroom Swiss burger and I got the veggie one. They are served with fries or onion rings. The thumbs up was for this part: our waiter gave us an option to have half and half of each OR a side of vegetables (which was my preference) without my asking. The burgers were okay, that's it. Nothing much more to say about that. The side are sauteed zucchini and squash was delicious. read more

There was a Christmas party here that I attended and if it wasn't for that I would have never known about this place. Nothing on the menu jumped out at me so I figured that you can't go wrong with a burger. It was a standard burger, nothing special, I would order it again if I had to come here again. Luckily we were sat in a different area then the main dinning area because the cigarette smoke was TERRIBLE walking through the main restaurant. Came here with my husband on a week night. The place is cool and quaint. I'm sure if I wasn't pregnant I would enjoy just coming to drinks to get out the house. The food....NOT GOOD!!! We had an appetizer which consisted of shrimp with feta cheese in some soupy water seasoned with red pepper and capers. The shrimp wasn't seasoned at all. Looks like they were frozen and steamed. :-( A side salad came with our entree and that seemed to come out of a bag you'd buy at Walmart. (The herb vinaigrette dressing was good). My dinner was SUPPOSED to be Cajun chicken carbonara -_- They served me 3 dry chicken tenders with old seasoning on top of a big bed of the cheesiest "fettuccini alfredo" ...it was so gross and seemed to be a bowl of melted cheeses. My husband got the "Hawaiian tenderloin". The terrible sauce they used could have been better. Only thing that makes it Hawaiian is the big slices pineapple they put on top. We had a great experience at Sinclair's. Generally: They have a smoking/bar side of the restaurant separated by glass pains from the non-smoking side. The seating was nice as it had both leather covered seats and booths. They provide adjustable lighting via a dimmer switch at each booth. I believe they could handle a medium sized to large sized group. Service: The waiter was very friendly with a great sense of humor. He kept our drinks refilled and checked on us regularly. Food: They have a nice variety of food and desserts. The fish and chips, and fried brie wedges with marinara were both great. Recommend: I would not hesitate to recommend Sinclair's. read more

Came here to enjoy some music on a Friday night and felt the pangs of hunger kick in - so, why not enjoy some food as well? Absolutely! First off, the restaurant is divided into two sections (smoking and non) and the smoking side has live music. The non-smoking side is the dining side to where you won't be bothered and can actually hear your conversations without the distraction of whatever's happening on the other side.( For the record, you can still eat on the smoking side too.) Sitting on the non-smoking side, I was treated to a small table and lay in wait for the server to approach. When the server arrived, I gleamed over the menu quickly, searching for an appetizer to try and the Kowaliga Bites were recommended. An order of a medium-rare Ribeye followed with baked potato and salad. Kowaliga bites were small bites of fish lightly breaded and fried with a side of tarter sauce -- and they were excellent, tender and succulent. I almost had a hard time stopping because I didn't want to fill up on them (it was a healthy order) and ruin my meal later. Salad was good, pretty standard on all accounts... but the steak made its award-winning appearance soon after and I wanted to have all the lights spotlighted on my plate -- it looked awesome! If there were music to accompany, it would have been the Star-Wars-Darth-Vader-Deathmarch because that steak wasn't going to stand a chance.... and it didn't. Meaty morsels of bliss, perfectly seasoned and cooked, were sliding into my stomach and my belly became full in no time at all. Were I not full of manners, I might have considered licking the plate. This is basically a neighborhood lounge, bar, grill. The hostess does not seem happy to see us. No smile, no greeting. Sinclair's is dark with straight out of the 1980's decor and, worst of all, an overwhelming odor of cigarettes. Apparently, one side of the place is smoking, one side nonsmoking. Who knew such places existed in 2015? I ask for a description of bunch dishes only to find out that none of them are available on Saturday except eggs benedict. So I order a 1/2 sandwich and soup instead. The club sandwich has about 1 slice of sandwich meat on it and 1/2 a slice of bacon crumbles. It is dry and tasteless (LOTS of dry toasted bread though). The crab soup tastes so heavily of horseradish it is inedible. I get tomato basil instead which is tasty. Service is ok. The smoke smell is terrible, a bit like trying to eat while sitting in a giant ashtray; can't recommend it. The service was top rate! The menu has something for everyone! I had the spaghetti pie which is a house favorite. My husband had fish and chips. The spaghetti pie was amazing! It was obviously homemade. It had just the right ratio of cheese and sauce. The portion size was huge, and I was unable to finish it all because it is not proper for a lady to unbutton her slacks in public so she can eat more! Next time I will wear my stretchy pants!
