City Grill was an interesting experience. The food was decent, but not great, for the money spent. The service was not anything above the standard expectation for a high-end restaurant. The interior design and atmosphere was very nice, but the experience does leave something to be desired. read more

Anniversary dinner with friends. Enjoyed Harvest salad. Entrees included Duck breast with port wine reduction & mushroom risotto; grouper w lemon caper beurre blanc; grouper w crabmeat & beurre blanc; grilled salmon. Desserts included red velvet cake...YUM and derby pie...chocolate lover's dream. Wonderful service, festive Christmas atmosphere. Love City Grill! read more

The City Grill is a fabulous place to enjoy fine fresh seafood, high quality steaks, and an array of other delicious dishes. The chef here does a great job on preparation and presentation of his menu. There are great handcrafted cocktails and a delightful bar area. The wine list is extensive and carefully curated. The wait staff is very good here. I really enjoy the layout of the restaurant as tables are separated enough to enjoy good conversation. A great spot all around!! read more

Excellent dining experience. Delicious food and great staff. Very comfortable setting for any occasion.

Had lunch on a Sunday, and was easy to get a reservation. The steak was perfectly cooked with good crispy French fries.

Top rated!! Great menu and wait staff! Always feel welcome and great ambiance. The bartender is outstanding!

We love everything about this place. The food, drinks and service never disappoint. Food and drinks are all fresh and excellent quality.

Their steak was AMAZING. They cooked it exactly how I asked, it was really tender and amazing. Their staff were really friendly and amazing. One thing I do have to comment on was their lack of steak sauces and lack of kid-friendly options. But all in all, the experience was amazing. read more

Date night and a first time visit. We enjoyed the atmosphere there a lot. The waiter was delightful and knew the menu well. Food was great with lots of flavor. Great place for a date night or just to get out. Will return soon. read more

We ate dinner, good bar, nice decor, calamari was good for appetizer, watermelon arugula salad was fantastic, grouper grilled with vegetables was yummy. Good wine selection. Good service. You're going to spend about $75-100 per person with a glass of wine and no dessert. There is a reason City Grill is celebrating 27+ years in business. Worth it. Enjoy! read more

The food and Service were AMAZING. I got the crab cake appetizer and it was the best I've ever ordered. For dessert I tried the peach tart and oh my gosh I couldn't stop eating it. I couldn't believe how big it was, enough for 2 people to share. My only regret is that we didn't visit here the first day we got into town. This will definitely be one of the stops we make the next time we're in Montgomery. If you're on the fence about visiting, GO!!!! You won't regret it!!! read more

Food, atmosphere and owners, John and Terry. City Grill is clean and inviting. It is also close by where I live.

Fine dining at its best. Great outdoor patio for al fresco dining. Well stocked bar, wonderful and diverse menu. Be sure to make reservations. It's a foodie favorite. read more

First time there! I sat at the bar and asked what was a popular thing on the menu. The bartender said everything's good. No help at all. He took my order without really explaining anything even after I told him I'm not really a seafood person. No recommendations at all. I did have a gift card I was using and didn't have to tip because he was getting a huge tip from the person who gave me the giftcard and I wasn't allowed to tip. Because if I tipped then they will not be able to get the other tip. I was told that specifically. Maybe THAT IS why I didn't feel welcomed. No welcome feelings from him nor the THREE LADIES that were at the door that also walked by me numerous times without greeting nor acknowledging me at all. I made lots of eye contact with several of them employees/owners. I sat there with only water for almost an hour waiting on my food. No offer of bread and butter, a cracker, or anything. He didn't even ask me if I wanted to get a beverage AND we were at the bar! Nothing. He walked by me several times (no checking on me) he even was directly in front of me several times making water for other patrons and NO interactions at all. When I finally got the food...nothing was warm/hot at all. One of the ladies brought it to me. I asked about the bread and butter. I grab my bags to head out the door. She said to me (the ONLY words) "enjoy"...which didn't feel sincere at all. He, the Bartender, said bye. I'm not sure if I even said it back. The customer service FOR ME wasn't good. The hospitality was terrible. The food was ok. I ordered the salmon, tenderloin, Greek salad. The tenderloin was good, the salmon was very fishy (I couldn't eat it). I was expecting some type of greens/lettuce on the Greek salad (it was only 4 small slices of tomatoes, 4 small slices of cucumber, a small block of cheese and olives). That probably was my fault for not reading the ingredients properly. The potatoes and asparagus were good (Just not hot/warm). Even though the prices were on the high end, I would have definitely been back if I had a better experience. read more

My husband and I decided to try City Grill on New Year's Eve! What a perfect meal and night it was! We split a bottle of wine, shared the fried eggplant for an appetizer, my Fried Goat Cheese Salad And Duck were to die for and that apple dessert... I highly recommend this restaurant! We will most definitely be coming back! read more

City Grill is hidden inside of a shopping center off of Taylor Rd. My husband and I dined here for our anniversary. Our server made our experience very enjoyable and memorable. The salmon was delicious! My husband's steak was cooked right the first time. They have a nice atmosphere, nothing bad to say about this place. read more

It has been over a year (shame-shame) since my hubby and I have gone on a real date. Dude, we can blame Covid-19 for that! This gal took it to the next level and I'm just glad we are at a place where we can actually go out and enjoy life a teeny bit. We made reservations and were promptly seated. We were served our drinks and some delightful spurdough-we had the eggplant w chunk crab for appetizer. Delicious!!! Yummy!!! I wanted more. Dip the sourdough in the sauce, game changing. I had the salmon (non asian version) and my hubby the lamb. All the food was fabulous. We were so happy. We also ordered dessert! Dessert was decadent chocolate with raspberry. My dirty martini was done right and service was stellar. All and all, it was a fabulous dinner. A+ legit to you all from this couple. Looking forward to returning. read more

We dined here on a Saturday with a reservation for two. We started with the crab cakes. So delicious! Excellent flavor! I had the spinach salad. The lettuce was crisp and the dressing was just right. For our main course, I had the grilled snapper with the Mediterranean toppings. My husband had the lamb shank with gnocchi. We both loved our food, and each others. We ended with dessert, a flourless chocolate cake with homemade whipped cream. It was light and delicious. Our server was excellent. We would return for another excellent meal. read more

Wonderful food, great servers, friendly and courteous. Brenda's and my favorite! Try it out on your "special" night out.

The food was delicious. The service was good. Very attentive staff. The atmosphere was very nice. The food was expensive.

The food is great and nicely plated! The waitress was friendly and attentive. Fantastic location. Recommend making reservations.

Delicious food, nice ambiance, great service! I do wish they had a cocktail menu though!

The menu is not very boujie or continental but rather it is America cuisine. I would recommend it for a family gathering but not for a special occasion. read more

An okay place to grab a decent meal, just hit-or-miss with the quality. I've eaten here several times. Service is great. The food...well, sometimes its five star and sometimes two. I've had great steaks here, but I've had terribly overcooked fish and duck as well. Their beer selection is almost non-existent. One of the waiters even suggested I go next door to the Tipping Point if I wanted a delicious brew (to be fair to him, he did not say this in a negative or condescending fashion). I seriously considered just walking out and getting my meal there instead. Alas, my wife vetoed that idea. I would suggest a steak here, as that seems to have the most consistent quality. read more

Atmosphere: sophisticated and formal Staff: friendly However, the price was not worth the food that we ate. I got the ribeye with fries. The waitress overhyped the fries and when received, the fries were soggy and limp. Less than satisfactory to say the least. Steak was good, but not to the amount they were priced for. Though the size of the steak was big, it had a lot of fat on it and not as much meat. Good for a one time experience, but not a place for ongoing future meals. read more

City Grill - Ribeye with fries (as stated by my review, fries were unbelievably soggy and limp). - New American Near Me - Montgomery, Alabama

My husband and I frequent here for date nights, taking friends out, or business dinners. Everything on the menu is fabulous and the service is superb!! My absolute favorite place to go in Montgomery! read more

The atmosphere is comfortable, but not fancy. Avoid the booths. They are more private, but are also quite uncomfortable. The food here is very good. Service is excellent, top notch. Servers are friendly, informed and attentive without being intrusive. You can have a very good dinner here. Yes, you'll pay $$$, but City Grill is worth it. City Grill is not frou-frou fancy, but it's comfortable. Some folks come in a bit more dressed up, others are pretty casual. We've had two great meals here. From appetizers to mains to desserts, everything here is very good! This is my number once choice in Montgomery (above True & Central). Other restaurants in Montgomery should take a note from the chef & staff at City Grill. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Value for $$: 5/5 Will I return: Yes! Would I recommend City Grill: Yes read more

The Hampstead still has a lot of work to do, but it's good to see places like City Grill having already taken up root. My experiences with fine dining in this city have been pretty touch and go, but it usually comes down to a matter of value. If I'm going to spend twenties of dollars for an entree, I want to know there's some technical skill going into it. A chicken might not seem like the most elegant protein for a meal, but there is quite a bit of technical finesse in cooking an entire bird, and the half poussin I ordered - partly because it's fun to say "poussin" - was a fairly well-done balance of the white and dark meat along with the crispiness of the skin. It was also a pretty freaking large portion for one person - I was served half of a four pound bird, leaving me to figure out how to best attack the thing with my knife and fork. After half an hour, I just went to town using my hands. The passage of time has me forgetting everything about that meal other than the bird itself, which is probably a testament to City Grill and a reason why it's worth making the trip - it's a Montgomery restaurant that not only understands what goes into fine dining, but gives you ample portions for the money. read more

My husband and I had dinner at City Grill on Wed night (12/29). It doesn't look like much from the outside since it's in a strip mall. When we walked in, the green pleather booths also caused us some alarm. But the lighting was low, the restuarant was clean so we stayed and I'm glad that we did. City Grill is a small town restaurant that offers fine dining done right. My husband and I shared the pear and gorgonzola salad to start. It was delicious and perfectly dressed. The server also brought us bread which was unremarkable. My husband and I had the gorgonzola crusted filet. It was really tasy and perfectly cooked. It came with a homemade steak sauce, which we requested on the side. It was served warm and reminiscent of a balsamic dressing since it was olive oil based. I would pass on the steak sauce next time, not because it wasn't tasty but because I prefer a heartier steak sauce or none at all.The menu said the filet was served with asparagus....it did; 4 spears of asparagus. That struck me as odd since there are not any ala carte sides listed on the menu. For dessert we shared the pear tart served over melted vanilla ice cream. Our server explained that the dessert takes about 20 minutes to prepare so she offered dessert a little early. I was glad that she did though.Other dessert offerings included a sea salt and caramel cheesecake that sounded dvine. There were other options but that one stuck out in my mind. The pear tart was delicious! We will definately be back to City Grill the next time we visit Montgomery. read more

Traveling from Northern Virginia and found the City Grill on Yelp. Read the reviews and after experiencing it firsthand the reviews were on the mark. I travel a lot and typically have dinner at the bar (don't like sitting at tables alone). Very friendly staff. Food excellent. Had steamed clams with andouille sausage for appetizer and baked salmon (in parchment bag) for dinner. Both were very fresh and flavorful and I would recommend. Typically don't do dessert but after the flavor experience from dinner I had to give it a go. Had the chocolate cake with lava inside topped with peanut butter ice cream. Very good and not too much ( you know how sometimes rich chocolate cake almost makes you I'll, not this, perfect portion). When traveling to Montgomery, it is worth the few minutes travel out of town to visit. Thanks Denise for taking care of me! read more

We had the sweetest waitress on Friday night. We went about 6:00pm, and it was not crowded at all. The food was fantastic, we had the scallops as an appetizer. My husband had the shrimp and grits, which was the best cheese grits I've ever had. I had the beet salad and crab cake appetizer together as my entree. The only reason why its 4 stars, is for the bread. Don't really like sourdough. The price point and the portions are not what you usually get at the chain restaurants, which was PERFECT for me. You get what you pay for. I absolutely love this place. read more

Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Have no complaints. My husband and I split the calamari appetizer and one of the salads. Then we each had our own steak. And finished with the lava chocolate cake topped with peanut butter ice cream. Everything was flavorful and delicious with great service. Will definitely return. read more

City Grill - Excellent food and service in cool new urbanism neighborhood - New American Near Me - Montgomery, Alabama

My last night in Montgomery was spent having dinner here and the service we had made our experience as well. We called 20 minutes prior to arriving and put our name on the list for a table. Everyone was kind and our waitress was great. We started out with their Tuna Napoleon appetizer. I really liked it. It was light and just the right size to share. For dinner we had their scallops with pasta special and snapper with a lump of crab meat on top. I will say I loved the scallops better than the snapper meal. The snapper and crab was a little bland and the scallops had so much flavor! If I could have exchanged my meal for the scallops, that's what I would have done. The absolute BEST part of my meal was naturally, dessert!! If you plan on having dessert, you need to try their salted caramel cheesecake. I would go back there just to eat cheesecake! We paired it with one of their coffees that had mixed liquor and it was perfect. After that we had some sips of Sambuca. It was my first time trying it and boy does it sting the moment you take a sip! It has a black licorish taste. Overall it was a great place to try and I'm glad I made it here before I left. read more

Absolutely delightful . Almost, not quite, like being in France.

One of the best restaurants in Montgomery! I've never had a bad meal and the atmosphere is first class!

We had the snapper and New York strip specials. The Snapper was delicious! The steak was good too but lacked a little something. Loved the Parmesan fries too! We had the baked feta appetizer, which was also delicious. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this place, even though it's a little pricey. read more

I arranged a girls golf trip to Prattville, AL for 12 ladies who are "foodies" as well as golfers so our expectations are very high. This was the best dining experience I've had in a long time. We were put into a private room with a waitress who is probably the best in her profession. She was friendly, professional and provided recommendations when asked. The food was perfect! Not one complaint about any item and we ordered quite a variety of appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. Everything was great. I would have heard the complaints if there had been any because I was responsible for choosing everything about the trip including choosing this restaurant! I'd like to drive the 3 1/2 hours back to eat there again. read more

The best restaurant in Montgomery and a match for the better restaurants in Atlanta in Montgomery. Having eaten here numerous times I can highly recommend the daily fish with beurre blanc sauce, the lamb, or any steak. Service is always excellent and the dishes are consistent and outstanding.
