    Baked catfish

Great choice for dining on the river. Plenty of seafood selections between oysters, shrimp, and catfish - and I dined on all three. I started off with the shrimp jammers, which were so good that I didn't take a picture. They were stuffed with jalapeños and cheese. My friend ordered oysters that she shared with the table and they were plump and juicy. Lastly, the baked catfish with seasoned to perfection and the baked potato was good-sized and came with sour cream and butter. Lastly the coleslaw had a nice sweet but equally balanced savory flavor that I enjoyed. The service was ok and [[HIGHLIGHT]]being on the riverfront provided cool vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The scenery is really cute, laid back, with a touch of history.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was immediate and it did not take long for our food to come. Let's talk about the FOOOD...Oysters Rockefeller-A++; Grilled Catfish meal with Fried oyster, coleslaw; Catfish PoBoy with fried okra and Rice Pilaf; Frog legs, fried okra and Baked Potato--Everything was DELICIOUS!!!! If yuh haven't been here before, you need to come.

Yelped this place while finishing a job. Visiting from Charlotte with 2 colleague. Our local team joined us also so there was 5 of us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat on the porch overlooking the lake which was quite picturesque![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Started with 2 shrimp jammers each. They were crispy hot and tasty served with ranch. Great starter! Each of us ordered a lunch entree of seafood with 2 sides; I ordered the combo platter (fried oysters, fried shrimp, fried fish) with cheese grits and corn nuggets for sides. The food came out shortly after finisher our jammers. Some how managed to delete my entree photo. ‍ There was a common theme of FRIED with the exception of the cheese grits with this meal, and they knew what they were doing with batter and fryer. The portion size was "just right", and the corn nuggets were moist inside with cream style corn oozing out. Loved the FRIED oysters and shrimp. Fish was good in the tartar sauce provided. The service was excellent. They kept my Arnold Palmer full and even brought me a to go cup when we were finished.

We came here as a party of three on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated quickly. It was a breezy day outside. The service was a little slow but we had a pitcher of Mango Cart so it was okay. Staff was kind. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The cleanliness of this joint was substandard but is that to be expected?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely felt like Alabama on the river that's for sure. We ordered the fried blue crab claws, fried okra, fried frog legs, a dozen oysters, three shrimp jammers, and the gumbo. The oysters were delicious BUT my dad had a bad one and got food poisoning! My mom and I were fine. The blue crab claws were more for fun than to get the meat out and actually eat. The fried okra is always delicious but bland. I definitely don't love frog legs but I am glad I tried them. The gumbo was decent. I've definitely had better. The shrimp jammers were the shining star. Definitely order those. Capitol Oyster Bar is a must when in this part of town but I won't be returning.

Our second time stopping here on the way to Gulf Shores. It is right off of the interstate and on a lake. We like to sit outside and look at the water. It's a great little bar and grill and both times that we have been there it has been very busy. They have delicious gumbo! Get the full bowl but I do have to tell you that it is very filling. The oysters were great too. The atmosphere and the deck are awesome. It was busy (slammed) at 2:00 on a Friday but they handled it pretty well. I got a few stickers and I look forward to coming back next year.

I've often heard it stated that great BarBeQue comes from Restaurants one would describe as a "joint". The Capitol Oyster Bar doesn't serve BBQ to my knowledge, but it's "joint factor" is in the high end of the scale. Serving high quality seafood is something that the owner here clearly takes very seriously. I often eat seafood on the gulf coast, but the food quality here is often a cut above what I find in coastal restaurants. The half shell oysters are always exceedingly fresh, large and tasty. The steamed shrimp and fried seafood is always excellent. This place is located on the bank of the Alabama River and the views are great. The outdoor seating area is truly delightful. The wait staff are kind, attentive, and efficient. On my most recent visit, I encountered the largest half shell oysters I have ever eaten. They were fresh and tasty as well. Those big beauts were twice the dive of a standard saltine. They must have harvested these down stream from a steroid plant!! I'm telling ya, they were huge. I'll be back soon folks, you're doing a great job!

I stayed with a roommate at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa from Jan 7, 2026 to Jan 8, 2026…read moreas part of a Road Scholar tour program. It was the most luxurious of the three hotels in the program. Photos shown include our room 317. The room included two queen beds, a reasonably large desk, a door to an adjoining room, two religious literature (a Gideons' Holy Bible, and The Book of Mormon) in the nightstand, ample closet space, and "high-tech" light switches that required some head-scratching to use them. The bathroom had both a bathtub and a shower stall. I used the latter. The bed pillows were fluffier than those of Hyatt Place Atlanta/Buckhead, so I needed just one to sleep on. I had to contact front desk and maintenance staff for a "Do Not Disturb" sign as the room did not have one. Sadly, it did not prevent room service from entering the room the next day to make the beds and re-fluff the pillows. My sleep was not impacted but my impression of the overall service was. On the first night, our group went to a private room for dinner. We walked from one end (where our rooms were) to the other end of the hotel. Food was catered in-house as evidence by the serving staff in their hotel uniforms. On both mornings, we had breakfast at The House. It was buffet style with plenty of choices and plentiful in volume. Since we had coupons, we didn't have to pay a cent. However, I didn't give my coupon to the waiters both times and still ate for free. But I sat with my fellow group members so it wasn't an issue. For second day's dinner, I ordered mozzarella sticks to go from The House. It was pricier than I would like, but it kept me fed. There was only one laundry room and it was located on the second floor. It was free of charge but access to the room required the room key. I did my laundry on the morning of the second day. Did not have any issues with the washer or the dryer. It was nice of the hotel to provide a small lounging area just outside the laundry room where I waited until my laundry's done. The laundry room had two microwaves. Don't ask me why they were there. I'd have put them where the vending machines and the ice machines are. I did not try the spa. There wasn't sufficient time and the high price tag was enough reason not to. Nor did I patronize the performing arts venue adjoining the hotel. But there were plenty of lounging areas throughout the first and second floors. The one that I used for a private Zoom meeting was on the second floor, and had plenty of distance away from foot traffic for a reasonable expectation of privacy. If it was entirely up to me, I would not choose the Renaissance. It's out of my price range and I can easily find less expensive choices nearby. However, the stay was mostly pleasant especially when covered by the tour program. If you're willing to pay the price, it's worth it.

A hidden gem that hits every note just right…read more Walking into this place feels like stepping into the coolest Southern dream you never knew you had. The atmosphere blends old barn wood and Edison bulbs with modern art and chill beats--rustic meets trendy in the best way possible. It's got that Southern charm, but with a hipster twist that makes you want to stay way longer than planned. The service? Impeccable. Everyone behind the bar and on the floor was not only lightning-fast but genuinely friendly--like you've known them for years. No pretentious vibes, just good people who love what they do and do it well. Now let's talk beer. The selection is next level. From obscure small-batch craft brews to the classics done right, there's something for every kind of beer lover. IPAs, stouts, lagers--you name it, they've got it, and probably in a version you haven't tried before. The staff actually knows their stuff too, which makes exploring the menu even more fun. But what really seals the deal is the culture. This place oozes identity. Whether it's the local art on the walls, the vinyl playing in the background, or the diverse, effortlessly cool crowd, the vibe is 1000% dialed in. It's the kind of spot where creativity and community come together--and you can feel it. 10/10 would recommend. This isn't just a bar--it's a whole mood.

Needless to say with our recent run on Oyster Bars knew we had to stop in Fresh off the road we worked up an appetite and got right to it. We ordered some Patron doubles, which honestly were crazy over priced at $18 a shot, some chargrilled oysters, fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, gumbo, and bienville oysters just so we could have a sampler of multiple items To get right to the point, the chargrilled oysters which were freshly shucked or smothered with butter and cheese and absolute money! The Bienville were covered with shrimp had a healthy amount of crab meat and a creamy Parmesan sauce that were good but something about char-grilled Flavor that made these take a back seat The fried green tomatoes were very crisp on the outside and delicious texture on the inside but the signature crawfish sauce I can't put my finger on it but it was absolutely amazing The crab cakes were no lie 99% crab with next to no filler which is rare nowadays and the remoulade sauce was totally made in house And then finally the gumbo which was highly recommended due to all the achievements it's one, had the right balance of heat spice shrimp, crawfish, crab meat and, okra is a must try! The po-boy fish sandwich was a healthy sized fillet and you could tell was fried to perfection All in all I feel this was a great experience just touching down in Alabama, the only thing that made us laugh was we tried all this hot food when it was 102° outside. Shout out to Josh for that good old southern hospitality as he took care of us like we were family!
