This is the first time I've ever experienced a restaurant charging a 3% operational fee. The food is good but service could be better for a 3% operational fee.

I'm no food critic nor do I claim to be a foodie but this is really good food! Service is stellar and the cocktails are where they need to be... ! My partner in dinning tonight again is my best friend and Wife! It's our wedding anniversary so we thought let's check Chucks out! This place has history and for years was "The Jubilee" known for great seafood so we were a wee bit skeptical! At first bite of the stuffed shrimp I was all in! Oh!but Wait, there's sushi too! I'm a newbie at Chucks so my five star rating was due to this first bite excitement... we also had the Super Crunchy Shrimp Roll and The Zoo roll! I'm still excited and I just can't hide it. If you are in Montgomery Alabama and want amazing seafood, sushi a full bar and ample wine list without getting all dolled upthis is the place! Ask for Sarah's section because she literally made the experience exponentially better with a bubbly personality and fantastic attitude!

Great ambiance and food. It was very busy, but the wait was less than expected and the food was definitely worth the wait.

I'm always looking for a great place to buy seafood. The fried shrimp and fish were great. Very friendly service and very clean.

Expensive, and I wouldn't say the food was actually worth it. Great service and atmosphere though.

Wintzell's Oyster House - Shrimp sampler platter

Wintzell's Oyster House

We stopped in for a late lunch after the 1:00 rush of state employees cleared out. It was "Seafood…read moreFriday" for us on a business trip, and Wintzell's ended up being a solid choice. We were greeted immediately by a friendly hostess and seated without delay. The atmosphere was welcoming, with a lively mix of badge‑wearing state employees and locals. The décor could use a refresh--several bar stools looked mismatched--but the overall vibe was relaxed and comfortable. Our server, Jason, set the tone for the meal. He took our order promptly and struck that ideal balance of personable, attentive, and never pushy. Food We ordered the Fried Jo Platter, side salads, and cups of gumbo. Side Salads - 8/10 A pleasant surprise. Instead of the usual iceberg chunks, we got mixed greens with grape tomatoes, served cold and crisp. Sweet Tea - 2/10 Easily the low point of the meal. Strong but oddly flavorless, almost indistinguishable from unsweetened. We even confirmed it was supposed to be sweet. Gumbo - 9/10 Outstanding. Made with okra rather than filé, packed with shrimp, perfectly seasoned, and served piping hot. As a gumbo lover and amateur chef, this was on par with homemade. Fried Jo Platter - Crab cake: lightly fried, moist, and succulent - 9/10 - Fish fillet: fresh‑tasting and flaky - 9/10 - Shrimp: well‑seasoned - 8/10 - Scallops: cooked as expected - 8/10 - Hush puppies: exceeded expectations - 9/10 Everything tasted like it came out of fresh oil, with a light, well‑seasoned batter and served hot. Service & Value Jason delivered excellent service throughout the meal. Portions were appropriate for the price, and the Jo Platter was generous enough for us to split. We've visited several Wintzell's locations, and this meal was definitely above the norm.

I've never seen such a dysfunctional and lethargic staff. Well staffed, mostly empty and the staff…read morewalks around joking and laughing with each other while ignoring guests. There was one man working the floor who was on point. Everyone else clearly didn't care and they made sure you knew they didn't care. 25 minutes to be seated, 10 minutes to be greeted by a server, 10 minutes to get drinks. Once the food came out, it was stellar. I've been eating at Wintzell's locations well over 50 years and I've never had anything better than what we were served but the front of house was just awful. Multiple groups got up and left without being seated or gave up after being seated when no server came to the table. Debbie, it was Saturday, April 4th. We arrived around 8:10. You had 4 servers, a hostess and less than ten tables, no large groups and only one takeout. We had food before we got silverware, drinks never got refilled, nobody checked on the table before or after we were served. The server didn't try to upsell or push apps. Again, the food was perfect. A family of three sat at the bar and it took over ten minutes for them to be greeted. A four top, five top and a couple left without being seated. A two top left 10 minutes after being seated when nobody came to the table. It was pouring rain so imagine how pissed people were to walk out in a storm rather than endure staying at Wintzell's.
