Jan's Beach House Grill is strictly mediocre seafood, and I say this after making half-a-dozen or more trips to the restaurant. The oysters and the grouper I had on Tuesday evening were not delicious. As usual, the hush puppies were fried too hard with little flavor to them. But the worst item on my plate were the fried green tomatoes that were in a cardboard-like batter as thick as a sandwich, with no discernible tomato flavor or texture inside. In short, the whole side dish was unappealing. I've had the bread pudding in the past; it was not memorable. I like the atmosphere at Jan's and the service is always prompt and pleasant but I can't recommend the food. There's very little value for your money here. read more

ROACH INFESTATION. If only zero stars was avaliable. Had a reservation with Jans for a retirment party of 35 for 3 months. Found out through Wsfa the evening before the party that the State closed them down for a roach infestation. After commenting on Jans public facebook post about not recieving any sort of information from them about the closure I Got the run around from multiple people. 1 saying they had called me but couldnt get through. 2 others saying they never had a phone number for me at all. and several employees thought it would be a good idea to attack me. Magically those comments quickly disappeared. Thank goodness for screen shots. Took a while for our order to be taken even though nobody around us had food. Ordered the hamburger steak, first they were out of onions, when the food came out, that's when the server told us they were out of gravy and rice and proceeded to serve us a naked hamburger steak with different sides than what was ordered. I love it when a random restaurant choice turns out to be the best night ever!!! We had such a great time at Jans. After driving 8hrs we wanted a drink and a nice dinner- we got so much more! If you've never been to Jan's and you enjoy good food, live music and friendly servers that make you feel like you've been friends forever you've got to try them out. We (my extended family) always book the party room when we are celebrating birthdays. We've always had a great experience there. The staff is great, the music is great...usually singing and playing music from the 70's through the 90's. It's so good that you'll usually find several customers getting on the floor to dance to the music after dining. The Fillet Mignon with Shrimp & Lump Crab is delicious and a bargain at just a little over $25. The Beach House Platter for Two at $21.95 can't be beat which includes 6 grouper fingers (grilled or fried), 8 shrimp (grilled or fried) and 6 fried oysters plus 4 sides and hush puppies to boot! Appetizers abound, although my favorite is fried green tomatoes and I can't bring myself to order any other; and there homemade desserts are a great end to the evening with many varieties to satisfy any sweet tooth. The bread pudding is my favorite but I've tried them all and none will disappoint. So if you're looking for something different in Montgomery and a taste that's as fresh as the beach please give them a try, you won't be sorry you did. read more

I came in on a Wednesday afternoon around 12:30. This was definitely a hidden gem in my opinion. Staff was so gentle and friendly ready to help in any way they could! Walked into a very friendly atmosphere with a gentleman playing the guitar in the corner who happens to be a huge fan of Chet Atkins and was very, very good! Pleasant surprise, sure beats the war splitting music you sometimes have to put up with at some restaurants. Ordered the small (6) fried jumbo shrimp platter and was tempted to try the Gouda Grits as a side, but being a relocated Yankee, just couldn't bring myself to do it - but was tempted! The shrimp were a nice size, cooked perfect and the cocktail sauce had a nice little zip to it. The cold slaw was good but the best part of the meal was the music. This guy was really good!
