I'm not sure why I've never been to many coffee shops in the city. Could it be because...I'm not really a coffee drinker? Yes, but I'm a squatter and coffee shops are the perfect place to sit and talk or do work, so I plan to visit more in the new year. I stopped by her recently with an old friend to catch up. The place is nicely decorated and felt very cozy. The workers were super friendly and patient while I tried to decide what I wanted to try. It was particularly warm this day, so I was leaning towards an iced beverage. I finally selected the iced creamy peach latte with oat milk. My friend selected regular warm apple cider. When my drink arrived and I tasted it, I instantly regretted my choice because it was not what I was expecting. I'm not even sure if I told them to add sweetener in it. As a novice coffee drinker, I should have went simple so this was at no fault of the shop or its workers. I ended up drinking some cold water that was found near the entryway on the counter. I had the nicest chat with one of the workers about the holiday and weather while I was pouring my water. My friend shared some of his apple cider with me (he's an avid coffee drinker) and I knew I should've ordered something similar. It was an invigorating jolt to the systems, rich and robust without being overpowering. every sip was a subtle encouragement to further our revolutionary plans. Is this how Lennon and Trotsky would meet in Vienna as they planned their little revolution? The place was crowded so some care needed to be taken lest a careless word find the wrong ear. It was a busy day. Hopefully the low din provided the camouflage we needed. The staff delivered service with a courteous efficiency, seemingly oblivious to our subversive intentions. All in all, Baba Java provided not only exceptional coffee and good service but also the perfect ambiance for quiet revolutionaries. Found a new local favorite to add to the list of coffee shops for this area! I've been here 3 times, and each experience was great overall. During my first visit, I ordered a honey cinnamon latte (half sweet) and it was still a bit too sweet, but pretty good coffee overall. The woman who took my order was extremely sweet and welcoming! For the second visit, the guy who took my order wasn't very friendly, but the iced vanilla latte was perfection -- the espresso:milk ratio was perfect, the balance was very smooth, and it was the perfect level of subtle sweetness that I requested. Third visit -- the guy (different from second visit) who took our order was very friendly and gave helpful info when I inquired about buying beans. I ordered an iced vanilla latte again and it was smooth this time as well. Interior is cozy and has pretty good number of seats. Will be back! read more

I was in Hoover for a meeting and this coffee shop was less than a mile from the hotel. Hit it up because the Honey Habanero Latte intrigued me. It's definitely got a kick and would clear any sinus stoppage. I enjoyed it though but I am a huge fan of spicy things. I got some PNG to take r home and try and am currently enjoying my first cup. Ladies and gentlemen...it is with great pleasure that I can say that the Hoover area now has a real, legit place to get your fix of high quality caffeine. For so long, this area has been a quality coffee desert to the detriment of the quality of life of so many caffeine addicts who've had to drive across town for so long when the need struck for anything like the pure, delicious roasted goodness that Baba Java provides. This place checks all the boxes when it comes to being everything you'd want and expect from a coffee spot. Nice high ceilings give it an open feel and there's plenty of seating both inside and out. A few couches, a few tables, a few seats at the bar so whatever your preference on that they've got it covered. The place is super clean, and balances the minimalism of some places with a few tasteful decorations that create a nice atmosphere for working or just lounging around indulging in too much caffeine. They've got wide variety of locally sourced bakery goods sufficient enough that you can rest assured that your friend who is allergic to everything will shit a brick of joy. Cookies, tiny pecan pies, scones, I think I saw a mini quiche in there...for real they've got a nice spread of seemingly high quality munchies. You're sure to find something you like...so 5 stars on that. The coffee...how do you want it? Pour over? Latte? Macchiato? Cortado? Maybe some herbal teas? Caffeinated? Decaf? Whatever...they've got it. The one I had today was up to par with the best that you could expect anywhere, so don't worry about it just order, drink and be happy. The crew was friendly and seemed to really know their stuff. A lady in front of me had 20 questions and they answered all of them patiently and in a friendly manner to ensure that she got exactly what she wanted. So great customer service there. So overall a great, and welcome addition to this area. A business that fills a hole in the coffee market on this side of town. Nice people, great coffee, and some good community engagement via their partnerships with other local places who are providing the eats. No offense to Starbucks, because I do love their coffee and consistent product, but Hoover desperately needed a locally-owned and operated coffee shop. My wishes have been granted, with the opening of this awesome cafe. My daughter and I stopped by on Thursday morning during their soft-opening week to check out the place. It's a decent sized cafe, with lots of tables (big and small) and couches inside, and several small tables outside (yay, I'm bringing my pup next time). It's a bit industrial looking, and the noise level could potentially get loud because of the high ceilings and sparse walls. There are two TVs on the far wall with the drink menu (coffee and tea). There's a wall next to the register with the food options, which are delicious baked items from local bakeries, Highland Gourmet Scones, Forest Bear Bakery (I've had their delicious cookies), Customs Cafe, Big Bee Pastries, and Emily's Heirloom Pound Cakes. There's a big coffee roaster, but we didn't see it in action, and didn't ask about it, but we will next time. My daughter ordered an iced chai latte. She loved it. I ordered the Honey Habanero Latte, and yes, there is a kick to it. It's like mexican chocolate, and the heat is not bad at all. I loved it. We both wanted to try scones, so we got lemon blueberry, and cherry amaretto. These scones are not the rock-hard, dry scones I've read about. Instead, they are soft and just a little bit crumbly. They tasted really good. There were people working on their laptops/Macs, there were people conducting meetings, and there were people just visiting with each other over good coffee. While we did not venture out of our comfort zone and tried what Baba Java specializes (coffee from Yemen, China, etc.) this time, but we will on our next visit. Their hours are 7-7 right now, but they plan to be opened until 9 PM on weeknights, and 10 PM on weekends. Depending on demand, they might stay open later. Second time coming here. They have a large selection of different coffees and styles. This time I tried the maple brown sugar latte, which it was okay. It's trial and error when finding your favorite flavor of coffee. That one isn't my favorite, but still lots of others to try. The shop has a good atmosphere and sweets like cookies, scones, and cinnamon rolls. I had 1 cinnamon roll and it was huge, warm, and delicious. Some girlfriends and I got together at baba Java's the other day for the first time. The restaurant is clean and bright with ample seating. The people working there were friendly and polite. We each ordered a different latte. I had the Rosemary and Thyme, one friend had a Hibiscus Rose latte, and the other friend had a regular cafe Latte. I was pleasantly surprised and how tasty these were. I would never have thought to combine rosemary with coffee, but the flavors blended beautifully. The others let me try theirs and they were delicious as well. Two of the cups had lovely designs in the foam, but according to the owner they are unable to make one in anything that uses the rose syrup, it disintegrates the design for some reason. I knocked a star off for the food. They were out of SO MANY things. I ended up getting a ham and cheese scone. It tasted old and was rubbery from the microwave. The others enjoyed theirs. They were served on tiny plates that essentially looked like slate coasters. There was no lip to them at all, so the crumbly scone mess went everywhere on the table. This is my favorite coffeeshop in the Birmingham metro area. Forget Starbucks....I've never liked them anyway. But seriously.....where can you find a coffee shop where the employees are so nice to you that you feel like you are at Chick-fil-A? Well, that's this one. Oh yeah and the coffee.....tastes so fresh like you just picked the beans right out of the crop/ brewed the coffee within the country of origin. There's so much variety here. My personal favs so far are the Colombian pourover and the Cappuccino. They also have seasonal favorites that are very tasty and again way better than your typical chain coffee shop that brews them. The price point is on par for gourmet coffee. The pastries and food items are delicious as well-from local scones to cookies to savory rolls(my personal favorite that has meat and cheese in it served with marinara sauce). All are from local businesses around the area. The weirdest part about this place is the layout...you have to walk to the back of the cafe to order, but that doesn't stop me from loving the place.
